There's nothing ladylike about Katherine Killin. She's a spitfire who cannot be tamed. To rid himself of her, and to honor a truce set by the Duke of Glencoe, her father agrees to wed her to his clan's mortal enemy, Ben Rannoch. Bedding the Highlander (Bookshots Flames) Reviews
-
Bedding the Highlander was a fun, little highlander read, perfect for when you have a couple hours to kill and you want something easy and enjoyable.
I haven't read a ton of highlander romances, but I've recently read and loved
Never Seduce a Scot so I figured I'd try this one.
Actually, the two books start very similarly. Maybe all highlander books start with a marriage between warring clans, for all I know? However, the two books quickly diverged, and I grew immersed in this one.
It's honestly pretty standard stuff here. Tropey alpha male Scotsman, spunky Scottish virgin, lots of heat and passion and fighting. It was all fun, just so fun.
I had some issues with the CONSTANT miscommunications, but, in the end, I just accepted this book for what it was and enjoyed the ride. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.

My thoughts:
Euan Morton is one of my new favorite narrators!!!! I must find more from him….
I made my husband look through my audible library and choose my next read. He found this title tantalizing so I listened during all my house work today and ended up really enjoying this one! It’s a shorter story, which as totally been my jam lately. I enjoyed the tropes in this one – the close proximity on one horse, the road trip feel. I loved how gentle the hero was the heroine, especially after he abusive family. I really enjoyed the whole thing! This is my first by Sabrina York but she’s been on my TBR for quite awhile now and I definitely want to read more now….
Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

Bedding the Highlander 'Bedding the Highlander' by Sabrina York is the story of Kate and Kirk. Kate and her sister are trying to escape from their father and his plan to marry them to men they fell are beast! So they go on the run on foot but when they try to steel some horses they find they have run into Kirk who has come to take Kate to her her soon to be husband. Kirk is the brother of the man she is to marry. Kate and her sister do not tell them who they are at first. Kirk is pretty smart and their shouldn't be to many red headed ladies on the run! Kate and Kirk are both attracted to each other right from the start. But Kate is trying to protect her and her sister from their own family... much less this new family she is to be married into. But Kirk has away with him that opens Kate up to starting to trust him and other people. I am in love with Ms. York's Historical Romances...so this was an easy read that did not disappoint. I liked the main and secondary characters which adds to the enjoyment of this story. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

You can't go wring with a book by Sabrina York and this Bookshots novella is a delight. I listened to the audio which was very nicely narrated Euan Morton. This book is action packed and full of steam as sworn enemies Katherine and Ben find love in medieval Scotland.

A regular brutish Highlander story.

**A bit about... "BookShots Flames,
Original romances presented by JAMES PATTERSON. Novels you can devour in a few hours. Impossible to stop reading."**
Bedding the Highlander by Sabrina York with forward by James Patterson is a deliciously wicked Medieval Scottish Romance. Set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
Quick read, only approximately 160 pages, but WOW. Easy to read with snarky characters, witty diagolue, steamy romance, a bit of danger and suspense, plus an air of mystery that surrounds the characters. There was some laugh at loud moments, as well as some extremely serious moments. All together, these elements makes for some entertaining reading.
I enjoyed watching Kirk and Katherine, find true love and their HEA. They were a perfect match, both dominaning, opinionated, likeable, and they both will capture reader's heart, if not their heart then at least their interest. Elise's sister was meek and even spoken, Katherine was determined to keep her safe from their brute of a father, and brother. Katherine at first was a bit hard to like, she lied, keep a huge secret from Kirk to get what to wanted. She was afterall, betrothed to Kirk's brother and Laird, which, was by the way, an unwanted marriage, but overall it was easy to understand why she did the things to did to protect herself and her sister. Very entertaining and enticing!
The secondary characters helped bring this story to fruition. I can't wait to see if, Ben, Kirk's eldest brother and Laird of the Rannoch clan, Brodie, a friend, Elise, Katherine's sister, Heather, Kirk and Ben's younger sister, and Paden, will have stories of their own, I hope so anyway.
A perfect read for an lazy afternoon, can easily be read in one setting. Fans of Medevial Scottish Romance, quick reads, longer than a Novella, but not as long as a full length novel, snarky characters, strong female characters and brawn Highlanders, I feel will enjoy "Bedding the Highlander". Ms. York did an excellent job of bringing these characters to life through the pages of "Bedding the Highlander".
Enjoyable and satisfying read! Strongly recommended!
*Be aware, there are some steamy moments between Kirk and Katherine. Nothing demeaning, and only a few scenes.* I do hope you will pick up this enjoyable and quick read for yourselves. What a great way to spend the afternoon.

Bedding the Highlander is a Book Shots Flames brand. This is a selection of stories that are well written with a sizzling romantic theme to their genre, by James Patterson. They are priced at under $5.00 US and have approximately only 150 pages. Designed to be read in an evening or at work on lunch hours, etc. Interesting idea, but I, personally, love a good long well written story. But then, I’m retired and have lots of time to read.
Now to this captivating story.
The story is about rival clans in Glencoe, Scotland in 1603. The Duke of Glencoe, in order to try to make an alliance for peace, has ordered the marriage of Katherine Killin to the rival clan laird Ben Rannoch.
Kirk Rannoch, brother of Ben, and his friend Brodie have been assigned to bring Katherine from the Killin stronghold to the Rannoch keep to be wed to Ben. They are, understandably, reluctant to enter the Killin keep, as many don’t return. Unfortunately, when they do, they find the wrong Catherine…no misspelling, it seems many of the Killian Laird’s daughters, mostly illegitimate, are named a form of Catherine. However, they notice the one presented does not have the signature red hair of the real Katherine Killin. They are told the real Katherine has run off rather than be wed to their enemy and they don’t know where she is. Reluctantly, they leave.
During the trip back, while camping at night, two thieves try to take the men’s horses. They capture them only to find that they are females and both have a form of red hair. A romance between “Ann” (aka Katherine) and Kirk is immediate and sizzling.
Okay, that’s the set up and the rest must be read to be enjoyed. It’s only 150 pages and doesn’t take long. I found it to be incredibly entertaining and very well written. I loved her solution for not having to marry the laird…possibly brave, possibly foolish but very interesting! Sabrina York is a fine author and writes a very inventive period novel.
Give it a shot!

Sabrina York never disappoints and has delivered another great story.
This book is part of Jim Patterson's Bookshots collection - it is shorter than a traditional novel but longer than a novella. I was able to read this book in about an hour and a half.
Katherine Killin aka Kate has been ordered to wed Ben Rannoch by the Duke of Glencoe - to end the feud between their families. Kirk Rannoch has been sent to collect his brother's bride, only to learn she has run away.
On the way home two women try to steal their horses and Kirk is instantly captivated by Kate - but he believes her name is Ann and she is the maid to his brothers betrothed. Kate and her sister Elise have escaped Killin Keep to avoid the forced marriage. When they are caught by Kirk, they hide their identities and plot how to escape. Their experience with men in general has left them distrustful and as much as she is attracted to Kirk, she can't trust that he is as nice as he seems.
Elise convinces Kate to seduce Kirk so she can thwart the marriage plans. Kate readily agrees and shares a passionate night with Kirk. Kirk is now more determined than ever to keep her.
When the girls escape again and steal their horses, Kirk can't believe he was duped.
Kirk ends up finding the girls and recusing them from brigands - but this time he will make sure they don't escape again.
When they finally reach his home and the truth about Kate is revealed, he is horrified that he has deflowered his brothers intended. Kirk and Kate find themselves wed and have to learn to trust each other.
It is a great book, well written, fun and steamy - I loved Kirk, he is everything a hero should be!
I sincerely hope there will be more stories to follow as I would love to see Ben, Heather, Elise and Brodie get HEAs too!! -
Fun fast paced story. So endearing. The struggles Kate goes through to find herself and find love is amazing.

Oh WHEN will these men learn to Never Send a Brother to fetch a bride?
A long history of feuding between the KIllans and the Rannochs, much of it fueled by the Killans and their refusal to parlay, behave and play nicely. But, the Duke of Glencoe has had enough of it all, and declares that Kate, daughter of the Killan clan laird and Ben, clan laird of the Rannochs are to wed. He thinks (and all the players believe) that this is a hopeful wish, and one not meant to come true because of the Killans, but everyone is, ostensibly, willing to try
Because of the history between them, Ben dispatches his brother Kirk to fetch Kate from the Rannochs, on arriving Kirk and Brodie are met with a seemingly empty yet highly fortified castle, and forced to wait for entry. An empty keep, save for a young groom sent to tend the horses, leave them uneasy, and the revelations to come are no better. From the Laird trying to foist of a Catherine, as one daughter is much the same as another, to the claim that the Katherine they seek has fled, and should they find her would need a leash to control her, Kirk is frustrated, empty-handed and more than relieved for his brother, believing that the Katherine they were sent to fetch was both untenable and difficult, with a tongue and temper matched only by her flaming red hair.
Oh WHEN will these men learn to Never Send a Brother to fetch a bride? It never ends well for the prospective groom, even as the brothers always seem to find the perfect one for themselves, and again, Kirk will upstage Ben (unknowingly) in claiming the pretty little red-haired girl for his own. As Kate and her sister Elise have run from their family, where they always felt less than wanted, needed or safe. Women of the day were simple pieces in the game of power, and Kate, unwilling to be a pawn, has run, believing the struggles they will face are minor hiccups compared to the daily task of living where they were little more than chattel.
Now, the romance here is wonderful, as Kate, for the first time in her life, feels safe and regarded with respect from a man. Too bad, she and Elise together hatched the plan for her to seduce Kirk, thus ensuring his brother would end their engagement. She never quite expected to find the security and interest in Kirk that she did. York carefully plots and plans the story so every moment is laden with meaning: from an errant (or not so) touch to growling complaint, the unspoken is as clear and precise as the dialogue: witty and fast paced banter, a clever reveal of Kate’s true identity and regard, and the gradual growth of both Kate and Elise as they realize that not all men are like their father and brothers, and their bone-deep hatred for the Rannochs is misplaced. Packing this story with characters that arrive and present themselves willingly and openly, the story quickly unfolds and reveals its secrets, leaving you cheering for Kirk and Katherine, and clamoring for more for Ben, Brodie and Elise.

This is a full length story packed into 119 pages. It takes a fabulous author to do this well. The story didn't feel rushed although the events happened quickly. This short of a story usually isn't my favorite but Sabrina wrote a fabulous love story that is quite believable and made me want to live with these people. Kate is so fierce and quite the warrior woman. But then she has to be to survive in her father's male household where women are used and treated like a possession. Kirk is the Laird's brother, and the enemy of Kate's clan. Their overlord the Duke, has commanded Kirk's brother to marry Kate in order to create peace between the two clans. When Kirk tries to collect Kate he finds that she's run away to escape all of it. Kirk runs into Kate on their way home, when she and her sister try to steal the horses of Kirk's party. And on the story progresses. Kirk is strong but gentle and showed Kate through his actions that she could trust her safety with him. Once again Sabrina writes strong people who are loyal who allow love to heal their hearts. Loved it!
Thank you Sabrina and her publisher to allow me to receive a NetGalley ARC to review. -
This is the first time I have tried any of the BookShots novellas, and I can definitely see their value when you want something super quick that you can finish over a lunch break or waiting on an oil change, etc. Bookshots are essentially novellas of every sort (around 150 pages), and the Flames imprint focuses on romance stories, both contemporary and historical. I like this idea, and I think I will check out more of them in the future, although I wish that they were available on Kindle Unlimited.
I love Sabrina York's Untamed Highlanders series, so I thought her novella would be a good place to start. This story falls in the arranged marriage trope, with some deception and mistaken identity thrown in.
It's 17th Century Scotland, and the Duke of Glencoe has ordered the marriage between members of feuding clans in the Highlands. So Kirk Rannoch has ridden into his enemy's keep to fetch his brother's intended bride... only to find that she has absconded. Leaving empty-handed, he knew that we they encountered two lasses within a day of the Killin keep, that one was likely the runaway bride. But which one? Katherine Killin is determined not to be ruled by any man, particularly her intended husband, the Beast of Rannoch. But when she runs into the beast on her attempted escape from Killin, her hopes are dashed and the subterfuge begins.
Katherine and Kirk battle for most of their journey, but Kirk loves her fire and Katherine is undeniably drawn to the handsome Highlander. Unfortunately, I didn't quite get on with our heroine. She got on my nerves for some reason... and I think much of it had to do with her deception. I'm not a big fan of deception in my romances. I tried to understand where she was coming from with her chauvinistic and abusive family, but I hated that she didn't trust Kirk and the Rannoch men more when they obviously were nothing like the Killin clan. Otherwise, the banter was fun and I really liked the hero.
I recommend this book for those fans of historical and Highland romance who are looking for a quickie read to kill some time. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book that I received from the publisher. -
Not a ton of time to write but this was only ok. Just missed the mark. Good bones to the story but never really drew me in.

4.5 Very enjoyable!
-
This was actually enjoyable...except for the cheesy title.
I like anything historical (pre WW1) and Scottish so this was a quick nice read with some action and fighting! -
Bedding the Highlander is a relatively short story that is packed full of action, drama, and those oh so steamy scenes are Her Royal Hotness does with flare that is all her own. I started this book directly after finishing another story. I had intentions of just reading a few pages to meet the characters before getting out of my nice hot bath. Well that didn't happened. Sabrina York grabbed my attention on the first page and I kept reading all the way to the end. I could not put this book down.
Katherine Killin has not had the easiest life. I don't want to go into too much detail here. There is a lot behind this young lady's story that makes for one really dramatic read. I really liked Katherine and her sister. They are both strong independant ladies with a perfect amount of sass.
Kirk Rannoch is sent to bring his brother's betrothed home. It sounds like a relatively easy mission right? They have to enter the territory of their bitter and sworn enemy to get the job done. Kirk is a hot highlander that knows how to handle each situation they encounter.
From that point on nothing really goes the way it is suppose to. There is attraction and passion, drama and suspense, mystery and danger all nicely packed into this incredible story. It is a quick read that had me turning pages so quickly I was to the end before I knew it. I was also in a pretty chilly tub of water by then.
If you are a fellow Sabrina York fan you need to grab Bedding the Highlander right now. I'm sure you are going to love it as much as I did. If you are checking this out as part of the Bookshots Flames collection and have not had a chance to read the fabulously talented Ms. York's work give it a try now. If you enjoy some well written steamy scenes with a captivating story line you are in for a treat.
I was given the chance to read this wonderful story and it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you. -
The audiobook was good, I liked the narrators. It was a nice quick read.
-
A fun and quick highlander story!
-
This book is everything it claims to be. It can be read in a few hours (it took me just over an hour but I’m a fast reader), has a steamy romance and is impossible to put down.
Kate and Kirk’s romance is one of mistaken identity, but it also covers the romance tropes of enemies to lovers and a kidnapped heroine. I loved getting quickly immersed in this story with just enough detail to pull me along. Never did I feel slighted as a reader due to the short length of this book, but it did feel like a few of the scenes in this book felt rushed (the sex scenes especially). I wanted more Kate and Kirk, sure. But this self-contained story didn’t feel lacking in any way.
Bedding the Highlander did feel a little bit like it was setting up some future romances. I would certainly read Elise and/or Ben’s romance in the future! 4 stars for this Sabrina York Bookshot!

This was a great book that I really enjoyed reading. "Ann" is a feisty female who keeps Kirk on his toes. This book is funny, a little steamy, and a sweet love story. I truly had so much fun reading this book.
Can't imagine, but would have loved to have seen when Kirk realized he had deflowered his brother bride.
I voluntarily read this arc and this is my honest review -
Sent to fetch his brother's betrothed, Kirk never imagined he would meet that woman that would make him want to settle down. But when he finds out that the woman he's fallen for is not the maid of his brother's betrothed, but the woman herself, what will he do.
This was a great, quick read! I really liked Kirk and could see how Katherine fell for him so quickly. Her family was horrible to her, so it was nice to see her fine someone that would be so good to her. Definitely another great one from York!
I'm definitely going to have to read more of Patterson's BookShots series. It will be a way to find other great authors by getting a taste of their work. -
I love Sabrina York and while this is a short book I really enjoyed it. This is the story of Katherine Killin and Ben Rannoch who is her dad enemy. But Katherine falls for Kirk Rannoch Ben's brother, so what will happen will honor or love win. I can't wait for the next book.
-
This was my first Bookshot and I think they definitely have value for someone that wants a quick story. They are essentially short stories marketed in an appealing way. This one was obviously a romance and it was cute.

Bedding the Highlander by Sabrina York was a delightful romance with moments of quirky humor, sadness, boldness and sexy. Overall a very good short novella. Read in just a couple of hours. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I absolutely adore this author, the Bookshots short story thing is new to me. I think it's great to get a shorter book from an author you love, a story you can read in just a few hours, under 2 hours for me.
I love Scots (and kilts!) so when I saw the title I knew I had to read this one asap.
Kirk & Katherine's story is sexy with a little snark. She's not quite the lady he thought she was, quick witted and sharp of tongue I quickly came to adore her.
And Kirk was amazing, showing her the difference between her opinion of all men, that not all are like those in her family.
This may be a shorter book than what your used to from the fabulous Sabrina York but it's just as impressive as any of her other work I've read.
