The corruption grows, festering deep within the shadow world of mages and spirits. Former AEGIS controller Meilin, once known as Star, is contacted by the mysterious and enigmatic sorceress Eirene. The traitor to the Pillars of Heaven offers a hint of a growing darkness within the upper echelons of Luna, the modern incarnation of the ancient Order of the Moon. Driven to investigate the order she loyally serves, Meilin embarks on a mission to determine the truth of Eirene's words and root out the evil that lurks in the darkest shadows.
With her young cousins newly awakened as mages, Karin Ashley and Misaki work to teach their family how to safely make use of their power. A surprise visit from the Swordlady Amber and a tempting offer from the Archivist Elias draws Karin and Misaki back into the fray. As the Relic fused to her spirit continues to change her fundamental nature, Karin and her friends are caught in an internal power struggle within AEGIS--all during a dangerous operation to retake a secret astral research facility!
With the very existence of magic and an eternity of suffering and darkness on the line, the stakes have never been higher. Karin, Misaki and her allies have been tested and tempered in the fires of battle, but the game has become even more deadly than ever before.
CELESTIAL PARADIGM, the newest installment of the Dawn of a New Astral Age, ups the ante as the lines between friend and foe are nearly erased. Enemies old and new clash with our heroines in an explosive and suspenseful new tale!

Celestial Paradigm, by Corinn Heathers, is book 4 of her "Dawn" saga, and having read all four I would say that this latest entry is by far the best yet.
What's always been a draw for me in this series has been the development of the overall plot without sacrificing the character development. As with previous books, there are fantastic action scenes that make you feel like you are reading a Japanese manga rather than a novel. But the series is more about the characters and how they evolve and adapt to their situation. And kudos to Ms. Heathers for using the series to tackle some of the social issues many deal with every day, such as LGBT discrimination, gender identity, and family acceptance (or lack thereof).
While this book does not cover any new ground but builds on the three previous novels, I found the writing to be a lot tighter and overall pacing better. The shifts in character perspective that was used in previous novels is back, and these provide better insights into the characters themselves and their motivations. The surprises and twists in book 4 made it a page-turner, and without giving anything away one of those surprises caused me to put the book down for a time until I could continue.
Obviously this series is not something you can just jump into from book 4, but if you are looking for a solid, well-paced series about a secret war of magic, with believable characters with real-life problems, you would do well to grab book 1 (Bound Together) and sit back for a wild ride. -
Another round in the circus. Another pillar down. But otherwise Karin and Misaki stand where they stood before. The declaration to no longer "play the game" looks meaningless in the light of the previous books. Because you can't escape the machinations of the others as long as you don't have the power to enforce it. Their only way would be total reclusion, which would lead to harm for many innocent children and that's not in their personality.
Major disappointment is the meaningless death of Amber and the lack of acknowledgement it receives in the story. Just two paragraphs.
That's one thing the author could have handled better: The suffering of the secondary characters. Even the trauma of Karins cousins is handled in just one sentence. They are introduced with a whole chapter and then cast aside with barely an afterthougt. -
Another great installment
I really enjoy this series and our is like no other one I read. Karin and company are really great heroes and I can't wait for the next book.
