Hitler invades France, and Flight Lieutenant Ken Armstrong is thrown into danger... May 1940: Flight Lieutenant Ken Armstrong is deployed to an airfield in France. His arrival coincides with Hitler’s invasion of France and the Low Countries. He picks up victory after victory but nothing he can do will be enough to turn the tide. Armstrong befriends the pilots he fights beside but is forced to watch them drop out of the sky each day. The battle for France will be lost. But that doesn’t mean the war is over. Armstrong and his men are determined to fight tooth and nail against impossible odds. In this tale of dignity and bravery when all hope seems lost, Armstrong must do what needs to be done. As a former pilot and Squadron Leader himself, Robert Jackson masters the plot and brings history to life in fantastic detail. This is the second novel to feature the charismatic Flight Lieutenant Ken Armstrong, following on from Flames Over Norway. Praise for Robert 'Takes you to the heart of the action.' - Tom Kasey, bestselling author of Cold Kill. Robert Jackson (b. 1941) is a prolific author of military and aviation history, having become a full-time writer in 1969. As an active serviceman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve he flew a wide range of aircraft, ranging from jets to gliders.

Flames over France (Secret Squadron, #2) Reviews

  • Tony Hisgett

The author wants you to know he has done his historical research, the history is interesting, but at times there is too much fact and not enough fiction. There are brief incidents with Armstrong but the majority is a history textbook.

  • David DeLuca

    Fun WWII action

Enjoy the authors work a great deal. Easy reading, mostly historically accurate, fun, plenty of action, well written, not as many run on sentences as I write

  • John Purvis

“Flames Over France” eBook was published 2016 (May, originally published on paper in 1997) and was written by Robert Jackson (
https://www.fantasticfiction.com/j/ro...). Mr. Jackson has written over 50 books, both Fiction and Non-Fiction, on World War II, with a focus on aircraft of the era.

I received a galley of this novel for review through
https://www.netgalley.com. I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains scenes of Violence. This novel is set early in World War II (1940). It picks up the story of British RAF officer Ken Armstrong shortly after the novel “Flames Over Norway” (
    http://wp.me/p4jzCO-15W) concluded.

It contains a lot of history from that period and is another good description of life in England and France during that period. This story is focused on the efforts of the French to hold back the German army as it sweeps across Europe.

I enjoyed reading another of Jackson’s novels. This one took about 5.5 hours to complete the 224 pages. I give this novel a 4 out of 5.
