Missional Motherhood: The Bible Study, The Everyday Ministry of Motherhood in the Grand Plan of God Reviews

This is a good book, but the title is misleading. I thought I'd be reading a book about motherhood explained from a Biblical perspective; but instead, this is a book on Biblical theology with a light emphasis on motherhood. It is well written and engaging, but not as specific to my questions on motherhood as I had hoped.

It was just okay for me. Definitely not my favorite bible study.

A quick study that actually didnt have anything to do with motherhood or mission. It did have to do with very defined female roles and how keeping the home and children and husband tidy and loved was a mission. That is fine but doesnt work for me in my life.

Loved this book!! Soo challenging and encouraging! Great book for reorienting my heart towards God’s plan for my mothering!

I was pleasantly surprised by this study. I'm not quite sure what I expected, maybe I was thinking it would be more in terms of looking at practical aspects of motherhood. But this truly was a lesson in Biblical theology (which I definitely loved and appreciated). Gloria takes you through redemptive history. She allows the big picture of God's story, of the gospel, to speak truth and life into the calling of motherhood. In fact, there were many times I forgot it was a study on motherhood, and just found myself enamored with the gospel, with the words of Truth, with the way God has worked through the ages and how He chooses to work now.
I found it incredibly refreshing that she made the point that any woman in the family of God is included in this calling of missional motherhood. So no matter how you came into motherhood, whether biologically, through adoption, or spiritual mentoring, this study is for you. If you're looking for a step by step process on helping you in your daily motherhood journey, this isn't going to be it. This study focuses on the bigger picture. This study looks to our call of making disciples and how that truly encompasses motherhood. If you allow it, the Lord can use this to encourage your heart deeply.
It does have six video sessions that accompany it and can be found through Lifeway (
lifeway.com/missionalmotherhood), but you don't necessarily need to watch those in order to go through the study book.
(I received a copy of Missional Motherhood: The Bible Study from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)
