Then, after our new best friend provides us a list of recommended reads, the issue travels west and then west some more, with Willa Cather’s O PIONEERS!, a bittersweet novel that evokes the fearful glory of the American frontier. Horseback preachers, prairie chickens, and pickled gherkins all make brief appearances in our special Nebraska-tinged section, with contributions from notable Great Plains-based writers Amanda Fortini and Clancy Martin, the comic book artist Dash Shaw, and many others besides.

Ļoti patika intervija!
"Now a lot of books seem to be written with film rights in mind."

"But the greatest thrill is actually having your face on thr cover of a book. It's pathetic, isn't it? Miss Literary Adaptation."

Really enjoyed both parts of this issue

Another great issue of The Happy Reader. I've only recently become a fan, but still I'm sad to hear that it will only appear twice a year from now on.
-
This is by far my favourite magazine, but this issue is extra special because my letter is published in it! I also read this one faster than I've read any of the others. The snippets are the best bit, and I love that they managed to link O Pioneers! to the American election.
Looking forward the next one even though it means waiting until June. At least that gives me plenty of time to read the next book of the month - Treasure Island. -
Labs, bet ir bijuši labāki!

Sadly after this issue (interview with Kristin Scott Thomas and articles spinning off from 'O Pioneers!') The Happy Reader ceases to be a quarterly and will be published bi annually...I fear that it's only a matter of time before it stops altogether.

starting to collect back issues of the happy reader. this one was a delight just as much as all the others
-
- Love the visual look & feel, playful & literary tone of voice
- Loved the storytelling aspect of articles
- Kristin Scott-Thomas' interview portion was my favourite.
- Was a bit more reluctant to learn about O'Pioneers, not something I'd usually read, but found myself getting engaged in some of the more personal stories surrounding the book.
- Will endeavour to read 'Treasure Island' before the next edition of the Happy Reader, maybe this will bring some more enjoyment to my experience. -
What a discovery. I need a subscription to this, ASAP.

apparently the happy reader will only be published twice a year now??? i'm going to struggle waiting so long in between copies!
