Worlds apart ...
On Fate Mountain, Levi Blackthorn is alpha of his bear clan and leader of the search-and-rescue crew the Rescue Bears. He and his fellow ex-Navy SEALs are closer than brothers. In a world where shifters often battle prejudice and even violence from humans, they face whatever comes together.
Juliet Hernandez is a soft-hearted, strong-willed graphic designer with a close circle of friends. She doesn’t like risk, but she’s always there when someone needs her.
Brought together ...
One of Levi’s crew has started a shifter-human dating website. Despite his misgivings, Levi signs up -- after all, male shifters outnumber females, and both man and bear are ready to find a mate and settle down.
When he meets his curvy human match, his bear roars in approval -- and Levi wants to claim her immediately. But it’s not that easy. Juliet’s last relationship was hell, and though the handsome alpha’s touch makes her melt, his possessiveness makes her wary.
To give fate a hand
Can Juliet let go of her past and trust the wild heart of her shifter mate, enabling them to forge a bond deeper than any challenge the world might bring? Or will their differences prove too great to overcome?

Shifters are coming out so to speak.
I enjoyed our main characters and even some of the side characters I can see how this is going to become a series and it kept me interested enough to want to know about some of the other characters. The world-building was ok I think we could have gotten a little more on Fate Mountain and what the objective is.
Narration by Calvin was so stilted, it never flowed I found my mind wondering.
Ashley’s narration was awesome even her male voices were good not forced or over exaggerated I kind of wish she had narrated the whole book. -
This was a cute read though it was insanely short. Things did feel a bit rushed and out of sorts. The hero is a bear minus a mate or legacy and lately that's been really bothering him. Fancy his surprise when one of his shifter pals creates a dating app and within a day he is matched up. The romance starts off a bit strong right away as the two meet via the app and begin to chat. A few weeks later the heroine will be traveling up to the hero's lodge for her besties wedding and the two have the chance to give their romance a chance. Plus the hero won't be for sure if she's forever until his bear gets a chance to smell her. Really quick and fast paced read about shifters finding their mate and HEA.

I received this for a honest review. Scarlett Grove has done such an amazing job. I can already tell this is going to be a really good series. There are some really hot bear shifter in this book.
Levi Blackthorn was this sexy bear shifter. He and his bear desired a mate. Levi was this great guy. He was the alpha of the “Bear Rescue” which was a group of bear shifters that done a search and rescue of hikers that had gone lost. Levi also was owner of the Fate Mountain Lodge.
I always love reading stories were they have shifter dating apps. I always find that so interesting. Corey who was the data analyst and computer technician of the crew had designed a this shifter app. Levi took the leap to give it a try. To his surprise he got a quick response from a human woman right off. They were a 100% match.
Juliet Hernandez was a woman that probably thought she was weak. I think she was stronger and braver then she really knew. Being a curvy woman there can been so much verbal abuse that one suffers. Sometimes men like to use that to tear down their self-esteem so they can control them. This is the situation that Juliet found herself in with her previous boyfriends. She need a man that would complement her, that would let her know how beautiful she truly is, and one that truly cared for her as a person.
I think it was very brave that Juliet adventured out and went on a shifter dating site. Reading this story you will see that she has a lot of courage. She found a 100% match right off the spot. It is not long before she will come face to face with this sexy bear shifter.
I so love how Levi is with Juliet. He is so considerate of her feelings. Even though he has had a bad experience in the past with a human female relationship he jumps in with this one. When he first scented her he knew she was his mate.
This is such a heartfelt story and Juliet will find that she has found her dream man and does not want to let him go. Once you start reading this book you will not want to put it down. -
Chief Bear is my first book by this author. I love shifter romances and hadn't read one for a long while. When this book came across my email as a free promotion, I downloaded it instantly. I liked this book well enough and enjoyed all the characters. Since this is the first in the six book series there are a lot of character introductions. The rescue bears have more than strength and intrigue. Levi, Angus, Shane, Drew, Zach, and Corey are ex Navy SEALS. Each brave and intelligent with vulnerabilities. This book was Levi and Juliet's. And having read the entire series by this point, I can say that Levi and Juliet were two of my favorite characters.
One of the rescue bears, Corey, is a tech genius. He created an app where male shifters can find their human mates. Their fated mates actually. The app is infallible and all the rescue bears of Fate Mountain Village are eager to join. Well except Corey, ironically, but you'll have to wait for that book to find out why.
Levi is the alpha of his clan. And the first to find his fated mate. There is some angst and a non threatening antagonist and I found this book to be the most lighthearted of the series and I truly enjoyed it. Both Juliet and Levi are instantly attracted to each other; the pull of the mating bond strong. And yet they take their time getting to know each other before they complete their bond. They both want to be sure of the other's interest before they move forward. Both have pasts that dictate they be careful.
I'm happy I came across this book and even happier that is was free at the time. I only wish that there was more attention to detail during the editing process. There are a lot of errors but thankfully while the editing issues were obvious, I still enjoyed Levi and Juliet's story.
This is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :) -
Shifted romance at its finest!
Levi & Julie meet on Mates.com and immediately begin to get their flirt on. His desire for a mate led him to her but his considerate treatment of her sealed the deal. Great romance, satisfying plot twists, breathtaking setting and best of all lots of hot shifters for future books. -
I enjoyed Levi & Juliet's story. This is a quick read, great for a rainy afternoon.
Levi has decided that he is finally ready to settle down and find his mate and start a family. He is little worried about joining the dating app that his friend developed, but decides that he will give it a shot. His friend guarantees that he will be matched with his fated mate.
This story has the typical insta-love that you often find with shifter stories. Its worth the read. -

Woo-hoo Ms. Grove has written an amazing story. I've read several dating apps and they're all very good but this one has a twist, I really enjoy it because these guys are
Ex Navy Seals that have formed a rescue crew for the Fate Mountain Lodge in the Fate Mountains. I think I'm going to learn how to ski and accidentally get lost so a Rescue Bear can come and Rescue Me.
Levi Blackthorn is Chief Bear and a shifter, a regular hottie who owns the Fate Mountain Lodge. Corey is his computer expert developed a Dating App that he said was
100% solid. Levi is tired of being alone so he thought why not try the dating app maybe he'll find his fated mate, looking through a lot of the curvy women that are human he didn't see anything but then all of a sudden there was his 100%, he couldn't believe his eyes.
Juliet Fernandez loved her position being a graphic designer but she hated her boss, he picked on her constantly. But when she reported him his boss said to sucked it up or find a new job. Saying there's a hundred Julie's waiting to work. So needless to say she grinned a bared it. Juliet just wanted to be loved, has she found it? I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

Cody Geek bear for the Rescue Bears of Fate Mountain creates Mate.com through algarhythms and it looks like Chief Bear is going to be his first customer.
Chief Bear Levi has given up on ever finding his true mate after a very bad experience while in the Military, heck he hasn't even dated since that incident a year ago. But he wants very desperately someone to share his life with and cubs to leave his legacy to. He decides what the heck and sets up a profile, never thinking he would actually meet someone on Cody's Mate.com. Then he gets 100% match!
Juliet has lived under the thumb of her ex, when she finally gets the courage up to leave him and his mental abuse, she finds herself under his abuse again at work. She is very self conscious of her curves having been belittled so much by her ex. She decides to give n online dating service a try, after all they say that shifters like big girls, why not give it a shot, nothing gained, nothing lost right? She has no expectations!
A very lovely love story full of hotness! -
I DNFed this 68 pages in.
I just wasn’t feelin it. There’s a lot of circular writing, where it felt like she was just doin a brain dump of what she was thinking at the time. And most of it was about how shifters were treated like they were less than humans. And that’s fine. I feel like that’s probably a more accurate portrayal of what would happen if there actually were shifters in the world. But she made it all really awkward between the two characters, because of it. They seem like they have no clue how to talk to each other, or act towards each other.
I just can’t scrounge up the interest to keep reading. -
Not bad. I just like my book men a little more aggressive.

CHIEF BEAR is the first book in the Rescue Bears series. While each will stand on its own, they are even better when you read them all and in the order of release.
I have always loved reading Scarlett Grove’s Fate Mountain stories. Honestly, I’ve read more than I’ve reviewed, and I need to get more of those reviews posted for ya’all. Finally, I had the opportunity to listen to one in Audible and it is even better than I imagined it could be. This is a dark chocolate cake that now has a sweet caramel center and pink sugar sprinkles on top of the best buttercream icing you’ve ever tasted. To hear those bears wistfully thinking of human woman, “curvy women.” Sigh!
Levi and Juliette are a modern-day version of pen pals falling in love via text after meeting on Date.com long before they meet in person. Of course, they’re not admitting that it’s love yet; she’ll only admit to interest at first and he doesn’t want to scare her off by telling her that his bear has scented his mate.
Nevertheless, how can she not fall in love with the protective, considerate, consuming shifter. I love the romance. I also love their friends and being witness to their relationships. In fact, I’m looking forward to learning more about those bears, their mates, and how they will find their HEAs (especially Brew Bear… it looks like his may be the hardest to convince).
Narration: The narration is unfortunately inconsistent. The production values are not equal, so I was constantly turning the volume up or down depending on which narrator was speaking. Thank God they did full chapter instead of line by line reading!
Calvin Murray has a William Shatner-like delivery with many odd pauses. On the other hand, he does an amazing job at giving each of the bear shifter men a unique voice that was entertaining and added to my listening enjoyment.
Ashley Taylor’s voice work is nearly flawless and sweet to boot! I would be delighted to listen to her again.
When there are two narrators, it would be nice if they collaborated on the sounds for the characters so that both gave the same sound for the same character (or as closely as possible) and work to make their production values match for the sake of the listeners.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

OH! I think this is a series that I will be able to fall in love with over and over again. I absolutely love the characters, each strong in their own way, with lots of character and gumption. The first of the series, this book introduces us to many, not only giving us a great story with Levi and Juliet, but opening the door for so many stories to come.
After being in an abusive relationship for over two years, only to leave and have her ex transferred and become her immediate supervisor, Juliet is so ready for something good to happen in her life. When one of her friends suggests she sign up to mate.com, a new dating site for voluptuous human women and shifter men looking for lifetime mates, she checks it out. After completing the crazy questionaire, and almost immediately being matched with a 100% score to the most gorgeous man she's ever seen, she decides to take the plunge and text with him to see where it goes.
Levi and his bear are aching for a mate. They both think it's time. With a past that has left him so badly wounded that he's not even sure he wants to date, he's extra cautious. When one of his crew sets up mate.com, and it seems to work, he decides to sign up and see where it goes.
These two are fated to come together, but it would appear that both of them are hesitant to let go of the past. Will they ever be able to make it work?
An awesome read that will leave you hungering for the next episode. -
A Great & Original Shifter Romance! 4.5 Wonderfully Unique Stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Chief Bear
Rescue Bears, Book 1
By: Scarlett Grove
Narrated by: Ashley Taylor, Calvin Murray
Series: Fate Mountain Shifters: Rescue Bears, Book 1
I love & enjoy shifter stories and Scarlett Grove does not disappoint. She impressively creates this imaginative world where shifters live amongst humans that is believable and realistic. The story is well written with interesting storylines that grab your attention right from the start. The characters are likable and well developed. The chemistry between the leads, Juliet and Levy, was smoking. I love Fate Mountain and the bear clan, also loved the dynamics of the clan and their bear names, starting with the alpha, Chief Bear, then you have Wild Big, Brew, Ski and Geek Bear. Speaking of Geek Bear, he is a computer whiz who creates a human-shifter dating site and how Juliet and Levy meet. I highly recommend this entertaining story, it has drama, action, humor, romance and some hot shifters. Scarlett Grove, thank you for this great story I am looking forward to rest of the clan’s stories.
I listened to the Audible edition, Ashley Taylor and Calvin Murray did a terrific job narrating and performing the voices, bringing the characters to life from the pages to your ears. Thanks for the entertaining listen. -
So I don't read a lot of paranormal romances. I find that they tend to either be excessively violent or graphic in the bedroom. I also get tired of the same old vampires and werewolves popping up in every story. So, I saw bear shifters and I figured I'd give it a try.
This story is different from other paranormal stories I've read in the past. Shifters are known to humans, and while they're probably not the most liked, they are acknowledged and mostly accepted. Levi and Juliet meet thought a dating app made specifically for shifters looking for their mates. What a neat idea in this day and age. My only real complaint is that the romance is rather quick, I mean they're basically mated within a couple weeks of meeting online and days within meeting in person. BUT, it is a paranormal and there's that animal instinct that tends to allow me to look over that instalove that drives me nuts.
The dual narration works and I particularly enjoyed both performances. Ashley Taylor and Calvin Murray both did a great job of creating voices for each of the characters and injecting feeling into their narrations. I can't wait to hear more from both of them.
I really enjoyed this book and kinda want to see what happens in this small Oregon community. Well done Ms Grove. -
This is the first book in this series. I have several of Scarlett’s books and always enjoyed them. This one was no different. Levi is the head of mountain rescue squad. He and the members of the team served together in the military. Juliet is a sweet wonderful woman who doesn’t have the greatest self-esteem or luck with men. The both sign up for this new dating app that matches human woman with male shifters. Levi’s friend created the app. The app says that Juliet and Levi are a perfect match. They could be mates. Neither were really expecting that when they signed up for the app. After all, how could answering a bunch of random questions really find your perfect match? Now they have to decide if they really want to meet or not. They text a lot but that isn’t the same. Fate has taken the choice form them when a friend of Juliet’s books her wedding and Levi’s lodge. What will happen when the they meet? Is Juliet prepared for what it means to be a mate? The characters in this book are wonderful. Levi is a strong alpha male. Juliet has been having the best of luck lately. Levi wants to give Juliet everything she wants. I look forward to reading more books in this series. Great job Scarlett.

Just liek the rating says, it was an ok book. There wasn't anything great about it and I found the plot a little boring as well as the characters. Maybe I would've felt more connected to them if it was written in first person or if we got actual snippets of a first person inner monologue mixed in with all of the third person pov. Also all of the humans are so sure they aren't racist against shifters but then they almost never use their names just saying "the shifter" or "that shifter" to each other and implying that they're crazy and dangerous because they don't know anything about their culture. And I didn't really get how Juliet's biggest dream was to have kids and a family but she was also talking about what a commitment-phobe she was. I don't know a lot of stuff just didn't make a lot of sense and there wasn't really anything connecting me to the characters or the story that made me want to read the rest of the books.

3.5 Stars
This is my first read by this author. I enjoyed this story. The characters were all appealing and interesting. This is Levi aka Chief Bear and Juliet's story. Levi is a Bear shifter, ex navy seal, alpha of rescue crew and total hottie. Levi's fellow team member Corey created an online dating service for shifters, this site will point the shifters to their fated mate. Well Juliet is Levi's mate. They will get to know eachother but will also have to get though the struggles of dating. There has been prejudice against shifters but humans have been coming around. Will Juliet give herself to perfect sexy Levi ? Can Levi trust Juliet with his heart and bear? Take a chance on Scarlett Grove's Bear Shifter Paranormal Romance series Rescue Bears. This is book one. Happy Reading -
ABSOLUTELY Fantastic
This is the first book in this series and what magnificent story to start this fantastic series. I must say that Bear Shifters are my favorite shifters to read. The characters in this story are praise worthy plus they are easy to enjoy and appreciate. I enjoy Scarlett Grove writing style she is a author that is on my short list for my one click. This story features Ivey and Juliet. Ivey is a fantastic leader of the Rescue Bears squad plus he is ready to fine his fated mate and settle down. Juliet is a graphic artist and she is being bullied at her job by her ex- boyfriend. She is also lonely so sign up on mate.com and find her shifter mate. I have enjoyed these two characters along with the story that's full of drama, romance and action. I highly recommend this book it's so beautifully written. -
The male narrator sounded like a grandpa, which is awkward for the intimate scenes. It didn’t fit the characters and he made the other male characters sound like morons. The female narrator was great though, so I wish the whole book was read by her. The male narrator wasn’t horrible; just not for this type of story and a bit hard to understand sometimes.
Sweet, simple story. A little more depth would be good, but I liked the shifter aspect. I really enjoy the whole mate scenario. I liked the shifter dating site aspect too, and the wedding stuff was fun. I’m not loving the other characters that will have books; especially Quinn, but I still am interested in the stories.
Quick read/listen with some spice. Entertaining. -
This is the first in the series, and is based on web site dedicated to shifters to find their fated mate. Shifters are known to the world and have recently been drafted to fight our wars. After the war, they were given equal rights and most shifters have moved into communities away from the large cities. Fate Mountain is the scene for this series, and the shifters that live there. Chief Bear is the Alpha of his clan Rescue Bears. Juliet is a graphic designer with a horrible ex-boyfriend. I enjoyed this story and Levi was easy to love. I got into the series when I realized that the couples don't really have a choice and how they work together to their relationship work out.
-
I enjoyed the combination of Ashley Taylor and Calvin Murray as the narrators for this book. His grumbly bears just made it all worth while. Both narrators fit the story well and I didn't have much trouble figuring out who was who from the voices.
This is a lovely light enjoyable Iisten, a good cast of characters and a good story with a couple of twists. I loved the setting and now just want to visit a mountain lodge! Preferably with rescue bears obviously. I liked the fact that it is one of the bears that set up the website and I'm hoping that that means we have more of these books to come. -
I love the story. It’s a cute little read. I enjoyed meeting Levi and the other bears. Each has their own fun personality. Juliet and her girls are smart and sassy.
Drew and Quinn’s story was so much fun to read and I can’t wait til I can finish their story.
I listened to this on audio. I am not a fan of the male reader. He does a good job on Levi and Juliet but when he does the other male characters he loses me. He makes them sound old and raspy not at all what the writer is trying to portray. The female reader does a good job with speaking the male and female parts. Overall not a deterrent to not listen but it did throw me off my game while listening. -
☆☆☆☆
This novella is about Juliet and Levi aka Chief Bear.
Levi makes a profile on mate dot com. Here is where he is matched to Juliet. Levi owns a lodge on Fate Mountain and Juliet's friend is getting married. The wedding venue is actually at the Lodge so this forces the two to meet sooner than planned. Once they meet it is an instant attraction. Will the bond be enough to mate for life?
Extremely sweet and passionate. Juliet and Levi are both likeable characters and their bond together is cute. I enjoyed reading about the couple and learning more about the Fate Mountain pack. This is a great start to a series that looks promising. -
This shape shifter romance is pretty good. The story is simple but definitely heartfelt and at some chapters.. so hot too. I love that this story though simple is unique than other shape shifter romances out there. Certainly worth the time to listen to.
The narration by Ashley Taylor and Calvin Murray is also good.. but I honestly prefer the Ashley Taylor part of narration.. I'm not sure but maybe because female narration is more soothing in the ear for me but I don't have anything against Calvin's parts, his is also good. -
This was my first Scarlett Grove's book. This is the first book in the Rescue Bear Series. I like the characters, the bear clan, and the storyline. The story is sweet, fun, sexy, and filled with action. Levi and Juliet share an instant attraction/love and a great chemistry. The narration is good, and easy to understand. Calvin Murray's voice didn't really fits the character, but I love Ashley Taylor's voice! I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.

Wonderful Shifter Story...
Levi and Juliet's story was so sweet. Each in their own groups were kind of the protectors, caregivers ,always thinking of their friends needs first but being able to realize they needed to also see to each others happiness too. It makes me also hope to read the stories of the rest of the bear shifter group which will include her friend Quinn who excepted a made mark and ran.
