The evangelical adoption movement is but one strand in a long cord of Christian care for orphans. While adoption trends have fluctuated over time in different contexts, the Bible has not changed its position. The gospel is decidedly pro-adoption and on the side of the orphan. Yet many obstacles stand in the way of the Christian’s mission to provide care to the least of these.
So, what now?
Editors Russell Moore and Andrew T. Walker of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) assemble leading voices to frame the issues with a gospel-centered perspective. The Gospel for Life series gives every believer a biblically-saturated understanding of the most urgent issues facing our culture today, because the gospel is for all of life.
The Gospel \u0026 Adoption (Gospel For Life) Reviews
-
This is my go-to book for adoption and foster care. That is, if I want someone to understand why my family is involved in this movement, I hand them this excellent little books. Other books provide deeper dives, but this one is a great place to start.
(full disclosure: the agency I work for represents these editors and book) -
Great intro into what the Lord means by caring for orphan's and what our response should be. Super quick read and I look forward to reading his other title, "Adopted for Life."

As you all know, I have a heart for adoption. This book is a collection of different essays dealing with how the gospel drives us to consider adoption. The book is both doctrinal and practical. The first two chapters explores the Biblical doctrine of adoption and how the gospel ties in while the three remaining chapters deals more with practical application and how the church can and should get involved in creating a culture of life.

“Adoption is nothing less than a love that pours itself out for another in a million ways, both big and small, without regard for any earthly reward or acclaim. While that kind of sacrifice may be a mystery to those who have not yet experienced the lavish grace of God, it remains one of the church’s highest of callings.” p.102

Very practical and gives food for thought in asking what your motivation for adoption is, how the church should look after families before and after adoption and why God has called some to adopt.

Excellent topical summary. A light quick read appropriate for group.
