Fairy Tail, Vol. 03 (Fairy Tail, #3) Reviews

Erza's art is terrible. I know it'll get better, but...

  • Elizabeth (Elzburg)

    2.5 stars.

I didn’t really like this volume that much just because I don’t really like the Lullaby Arc which encompasses all of the chapters in this volume, sub one. I find this arc to be “meh” probably because the villains are boring… And also all of it is pretty uninteresting now that I think about it. I was planning on reading all of the Fairy Tail manga as a way of “rewatching” the series, but now I’m not so sure about it. Eh, maybe I’ll start reading the master’s editions since they’re cheaper, because I still do really want to read Jellal’s arc again. I blame that Jellal teaser at the end of this volume for saving the whole thing, without it I very well might’ve called this manga quits. Speaking of Jellal—

Why is Jellal’s name not Jellal!??!!??!!?! What the hell is Siegrain!??!? I was thinking that maybe Erza would call him Jellal, but she called him by that imposter name too. Colour me very confused.

*EDIT*: Because my money is not infinite and I have other series that I enjoy much more than this one, I'll be saving up for those instead of Fairy Tail. This is not saying that I'm dropping this manga by any means, but my progress will be slower since I'm going to now be relying on my library's Overdrive to continue reading the series... And my library has the annoying habit of buying only one measly digital license for most books in its collection... And no one ahead of me in the queue ever returns books before the two week lending period is up... :I

A first look at the 'stakes' that Fairy Tail has to offer, the fatal flaw of the series is first shown seeping through the cracks in this volume. See, it's fun to have action sequences and cool fight scenes, but how many times can you get away with it all amounting to nothing in the end? It's volumes like these where you just have to hold your hands up and say 'Fairy Tail isn't the best, heck, sometimes it can be a little bit trash, but it's my trash'.

One thing I feel is a bit unfortunate in manga such as Fairy Tail or Bleach is that authors feel like adding random scenes of mega-badassery to emphasize how strong their characters are... and it feels a bit fake, especially when you know they'll have bigger challenges later on, from enemies who aren't as immediately awe-inspiring.

In this volume, our heroes fight and fight and fight to make sure great evil doesn't get unleashed into the world... and then easily defeat it when it's out. Don't get me wrong, the story's fun and all, but it feels a bit unbalanced.

As someone who really enjoyed the anime, I’m really happy with how accurately they adapted the manga into the anime. I know I’m going about it backwards but I’m really enjoying the manga

The "things" about Erza first appearance in the Manga

  • Natsu Dragneel

I've been reading Rave Master by: Hiro Mashima and Gray Fullbuster looks exactly like Hamrio Musica but has the acts exactly like Gajeel Redfox! I always compare the simularities and differences in Rave Master and Fairy Tail because all of the characters have a lot in common! Ellie looks and acts like Lucy Heartfilia, Haru looks and acts like Natsu Dragneel, and Plue is just Plue! I don't get it, but I love it! =^=

  • Rachel (Sfogs)

    Loved it!!
    Erza is amazing!!

  • Laura

Another great instalment. Such a fun, quick read. Love it!

  • Charley

Good book but the lullaby secret was unexpected .

  • Subham

This starts off with the three of them battling Eisenwald, the dark guild and its a fun battle on all sides, Erza transforming and all but then we see Natsu vs Erigor the top dog and then the way he defeats him is so awesome and there are cool scenes about forgiveness and second chances as we see one of the Eisenwalds lackeys go to destroy the guild masters meeting and then the coming of a demon and fight against them, Erza vs Natsu and finally a great twist at the end! Loved this volume as it just continues this guilds crazy adventures and making them face off against one good enemy after another. Also the art is insanely good especially when it comes to Natsu's fight scenes.

The third volume of Fairy Tail continues with the Eisenwald Arc and I have to admit, I wasn't exactly flattered reading this. Perhaps, the major reason behind that was how the villains in this one weren't particularly attractive. (And I don't mean their looks here!)

The book continues right where the second volume ended and leaves a cliffhanger at the end. I'm just glad to know that the arc officially ends here. I certainly felt that the entire scene between the guild masters and Kageyama was a little far-fetched. I don't understand how they could have had such a belief in the guy especially when he was probably going to result in their death. I mean, it makes sense for the story to move forward but it all feels just too convenient for it to be believable.

I also didn't like the art of the fighting scenes here. Since it's all in black and white, it was a little confusing to understand what is happening. I swear to God, had I not watched the anime, I might have not even understood it at all!

  • Mr. Cody

The art is amazing and the action is fun, but I honestly dislike the dialogue and is there a more unlikable hero out there than Natsu? I cannot stand the guy.

I feel like I like Erza in the manga better then in the anime. Why did they change her having sleeves to her having whatever those things are called? Arm armour? A) sleeves would be far easier to fight in because mobility and shit, B) even if she was wearing the weird arm bands there is an exposed part of her arm so wtf wear armour there? That's not how armour works, sorry, and C) I feel like I'm the anime she is sort of arrogant and in the manga she seems (despite her obvious badassery) easier to get along with. Strange but true XD

You know how when watching a new television series there is that one episode that solidifies your certainty to continue onward in the saga? This volume in Mashima's "Fairy Tail" series was that episode.

Now that we know the bigger picture for the members of the Fairy Tail Guild it will be fun and thrilling to see how they react, and then act (hopefully in that order). While there does not appear to be any potential for things slowing down, someone revealed as a backstabber, or for a tragic demise to take place in the next few volumes, I would not keep the thought far from consideration. While the series is amusing and humorous it has just as much right and ability to be cruel and depressing at times when the story calls for it.

I cannot wait to see what will happen next for Natsu, Gray, Ezra, Lucy and Happy as they take on the many evil powers that be that threaten their guild, and the rest of life in their world!

    Spectacular battles...that's it.

World: Solid art but once the fights the art is superb, the sense of motion and the choreography is splendid. The world building is pretty solid with the guilds and the magic and the stuff with the characters. Solid. Not super original but solid.

Story: A battle book, wow the battles are pretty nice but the emotions and the story itself is basic and falls into genre norms with the villains and their motivations and of course the hopeful turn. Good solid for what it is. Ezra is great.

Characters: Ezra's armor is great. Love that stuff. The rest of the characters are fairly genre standard. The banter and dynamic was solid though.

    Onward to the next book!

This just wasn't my arc. I love fairytail. But I really do not lile this arc. Tge whole fight against the badguy is really streched and over hyped. And then the fight everyone is deadly afraid of, so much so the leaders are to afraid to fight against... Gets beaten like its nothing. And yes they are strong, and I know this wil get balenced way better further in the story. But for now its not bad enough to stop reading. But still. I cant with a good conciense give it more than 2 stars.

4/5 I enjoyed this volume as our team of Fairy Tail guildies take on the Dark Guild Eizenwald. The action is well done and each character get's a little time to shine though the highlight is the Natsu v Erigor fight. We see a little more character range from some our leads but really it's just another fun little mini arc to kick off the series before we really dive into the meat and potatoes.

Natsu, Gray, Erza, and Erigor on the cover of Volume 3.

    Read 10/12/21

This volume introduces Ezra who's definitely my favourite character we've encountered so far. The team goes on a new quest (with Ezra and Gray - another Fairy Tail member who doesn't get along with Natsu - in tow) and it's more mediocre fare imo, though I did prefer this over the previous two volumes.

I've only got two more volumes left before I decide if I continue on with this series or not. So far, it isn't looking good. Hopefully volume 4 and/or 5 change my mind. :)

Fairy Tail mě pořád hodně baví, tohle volumko mělo skvělý mix humoru, bitek a napětí. Plus jako vždy musím zase pochválit kresbu a design různých postav, to je už u Fairy Tailu klasika, takže jo, baví mě to čím dál tím více :D

  • Elias Alexander

This volume was much better than the others. Hopefully it will get better. I do like this series but some parts are just so boring. But the characters are great just the story who is ehh.

  • Soline

I wondered why I didn't remember this duel between Erza and Natsu... OH YEAH. It's because there's none. Thank you very much.

  • Claudio Rodrigo

Didn't expect to like it so much. There were tons of funny moments especially at the end

  • TheBookishHobbit

Get 'em Natsu! This concludes the team taking on the Dark Guild Eisenwald and it all turned out well enough... even though the Master's retreat got in the way haha!

I luv manga and give them all 5 stars… forgive me pls
