TRS-80 Color Computer Assembly Language Programming Reviews
-
Bill Barden, Jr. was "Mr. Assembly Language" to my generation, raised on 8-bit TRS-80 machines. This title was his tour of probably the best (most capable, most orthogonal) of the 8-bit CPUs, the Motorola 6809.
There were a few errors clearly caused by translating his earlier book on Z-80 assembly to a new platform, like mentioning the "HL" register in a discussion of a short routine to calculate square roots. Oops. (Fortunately, the assembly listing was for the correct machine.)
This book fell into my lap as part of an eBay lot, and given all the time I spent on this machine back in the day when I *should* have been learning assembly language, I felt a need to exercise the personal responsibility I lacked at the time.
TRS-80 Color Computer Assembly Language Programming won't find much of an audience today, and that's a shame in a way. This comes from the era when computer hobbyists learned things down to the machine level for fun, not because they were computer science or computer engineering majors. Barden writes accessibly and informally, which frequently is not the case in fare intended for professionals-in-training. -
Great book to start learning 6809 micro-controller Assembly Language.
