Monster of the Week disrupts the Hale-Stilinksi household-- Again.

With lives in the balance, Stiles trades parent-teacher disagreements, sleep deprivation, and child disappoint to relive the embarrassing, awkward, and downright depressing bits of teendom. Funny thing is...

Can he do what he needs to fix things? There's blood, violence, and camaraderie. But, the strength of this lays with how well DW does the emotions of the family and kids, quality Lilliputians. It takes a heart of stone not to tear up at least once during this. Love and normalcy in the crazy that is Beacon Hills is spellbinding.

This is what he fought for. This is what he will always fight for

    Thanks, Lisa

Two chapters in and it's good stuff, like mostly fluffy fluff, with only a hint of hell to come. *bites lip* I'm trying to steel myself.

Chapter three and holy shiznoly. Fuck.

    This is so. effing. COOL.
I love all of the moving parts and group scenes, which are so well done. This has such tightly wound pace, the tension, I just can't. But I am. And I would again. This is by far one of my favorite AU's in the TW fic-landia.

So, yet again, DW takes me to the brink of literary death by way of WHAAAAAAAT is happening, and the emotions that follow. Whaaaaaaat???!!!??

But then... HEH, the twisty fawesomeness begins and I'm like, ohhhh yeahhhhh, this is gonna be fun in a WHAAAAT the hell is gonna happen next, how are we gonna get outta this. Heh!!

As usual, DW builds the tension, giving us respite just long enough to take a break, a deep breath. All the while knowing we're gonna get ripped to shreds. She's so good at keeping us guessing, whether it's intentional on her part or not lol. :p

Surriusly, this is tops on my list of TW AU's. Richly built and populated, this world has endless possibilities for the funny and the heartbreaking and love and the gut-wrenching. And the gore.

But I made it! I survived. And it was so much fun, and filled with heartache and tension, and sweetness, and pancakes.

There were a couple of spots that felt longer than they needed to be, and I'm not sure the whole Peter thing feels resolved (but then, when does it ever with him? Lol), but these are minor compared to the rest of this ride.

I love Conor. I love when he yells "Tata!" or "Daddy!" with delight. He made me choke up, and cheer, and wanna have him sit on my lap and show me his picture book. DW is so good with the writing the kids thing. So effing good.

The fact that we have several stories in this universe now, wow, I feel lucky. I get to read them anytime I want. I get to spend time there, with these characters anytime I want.
    Ummm, I want more. Heh!
Thank you, DW!! Even if it means we enabled your chucking aside your other projects to do this. Like you said, Sterek demands it be this way. :D <3

    4.5 Stars!

Well that was just freaking fantastic.

The best part of this fic is of course, the family dynamic. There’s just something about gruff Derek, for all his stoicism, not surprisingly shows a heart who loves big and loves hard. I melted every time he was the fabulous father to his 3 kids and the sweet pushover to all of Stiles’s antics. There’s exasperation intermixed with adoration, and I swooned and smiled and sighed. Again, Stiles is the main attraction and he’s written perfectly. He’s equally an awesome dad and husband - fun and knowing all the tricks that the kids try to pull over him, while worrying over the things he can’t control but wants to. That also extends to Derek, and Stiles is fiercely protective of everyone, forever their champion.

Here, it’s that very family dynamic that’s threatened through a series of unfortunate events, and Stiles must remain strong and save the day with the help of his middle child. The vulnerability, the fear, the desperation - all of it is present, lending a suspenseful anxiety as you root for things to be righted.

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but DW nails it home with fantastic writing, an ingenious plot, and spot on characterizations, never skimping on the humor, and never shorting the reader on the feels. Oh the feels! I have to admit that it was the kids, and one in particular (you know I’m talking about you Conor) that stole the show. They were the main components that made this such an emotional read, so if you don’t like kids in your fics, then this, (and frankly, the entire series) is probably not for you. One can only hope that DW continues with this particular storyline and we can look forward to many more future entries about the life and times of our favorite OTP - plus their fabulous offspring!

This was like the Paella of Sterek. So much thrown in that doesn't seem like it would make sense...but it does.

I love the pack dynamics, the love Stiles and Derek have for each other, the kids, the time travel, the whole thing.

    Brilliant.

    "I love you."
Derek smirks. "I take it that's a yes?"
"It is a yes," Stiles confirms, edging close to Derek and putting an arm around him. "But also I love you for more than bacon, Derek."
Derek kisses him. "Love you too."
Stiles knows. It's written in his bones. It's his cornerstone. Derek proves it to him every day. He's fought for Stiles. He's been willing to die for Stiles. He'd go to hell and back for Stiles. But it's not just that. It's in the tiny things too. It's in bacon, and kisses, and the smile that he saves just for Stiles and the kids. The gentle, secret smile that nobody else ever sees. The curve of it is the exact shape of love.
Jesus. When did Stiles turn into such a sap?
Also, who the fuck cares? Stiles has no regrets. He's in love with Derek and Derek is in love with him. He's winning at life.

This is easily one of the most epic book trilogies I've ever read, and it's fanfiction for crying out loud!! How impressive is that?!

  • Jennifer☠Pher☠

That ending. Thank you, thank you, thank you for that ending.

Out of everything that happened in this book I think my heart ached for Conor the most.

A brilliant addition to and already outstanding series.

Lisa knows how to write Sterek, without a doubt.

    Sterek - Now complete.

A wonderful addition to the verse this story will have your heart in your throat, it took a very unexpected turn that had me reeling but Lisa keeps her 'everything will be okay' promise and things fall together neatly for a fluff-tastic feel-good ending that left me with a stupid grin.

    Really enjoyed this.

I don't know if you all are aware, but this author is f'n evil. Evil!! I'm pretty sure I could hear her cackling several times while she ripped my heart from its safe haven in my chest.

Read this as a WIP. I don't do that. Ever. Except apparently when it comes to DW.
Her altar remains intact. I shall continue to worship her.
But for a few chapters there in the middle it was holding on unstable ground to be honest. But she redeem herself with those last chapters.
Conor is amazing. Best OC ever in a fandom. But Stiles? Stiles is everything.
    I want more.

    Thanks to
Vivian for inviting me over to her buddy read over
here. I had lots of fun! :)

I blame DW for making me break my own rule of not reading WIPs.
But there I was mindlessly and innocently browsing Tumblr when the first chapter of this made an appearance.
    I was weak.

I just love, love, LOVE, this series!!! EVERYBODY should read this. It needs to be a rule. If you haven't read this series, you are sooooo missing out. Highly recommend.

    Original Review 6-9-2016
Why, oh why!?!?!? Can't this be real? I mean, technically these characters and this series are real for me because I have never seen, nor will I likely ever see, the TV show this is fanfic from (because duh! Fanfic if a fictionalized story based on something else so the TV characters and story line are probably no where near the same as written here and I don't want to ruin my perfect couple! So there!)

Gosh, this was just perfect, so perfect!!!! And fuck you, I am going to use as many exclamation marks as I want to! Hah! I love Stiles! I love Derek with Stiles! And this story was, again, just amazing and well planned and executed and I may be going a little overboard, but who cares! God, I really, really wish this story line would continue. I need to research this because I think the other stories don't continue with this arc. There are zombiewolves (Jesus wolf, haha!), time travel, communing with nature, decapitation, cracked skulls, getting to relive being a teenager (not for a million dollars!)(Well, maybe 5 million)(ok, possibly 3, but no lower. ;) ).

Wow, if DiscontentedWinter , aka Lisa Henry, ever wanted to be super rich, she would totally rework these so she could legally publish these stories. And since I've never seen the TV show, I have no idea how much is her fiction, and how much she is using from the show, so maybe it's not possible.

You really need to read this series in order. Do you like shifter stories? Do you like MM romance, with some mystical otherworldly elements? Do you like MM parents with precocious children? Do you like bloody battles that end with time travel? And do you like Happy Ever Afters? Yes? Yes, of course you do.

    READ THIS SERIES!

Wow did I love this book written by the fab,
DiscontentedWinter, who I heard also goes by
    Lisa Henry.

These kind of books don't always work for me. You know there can be a lot of confusion, usually mine, as to what is happening and when and then before you know it I've started reading a different book out of frustration. Not so with this book.

This is the third book in a series and the whole series has been top notch. I grew to love Stiles and Derek yet again and loath Peter (guess I'd best read a Steter now to even out my universe).

  • Nichole (DirrtyH)

2/16/16: 5 fan-fic stars! Probably 3 real world stars but fan-fic gets a lot of allowances. I only wish it was longer! And am I the only one who's 1000% percent on board with Scott/Allison/Isaac? I would read a whole other trilogy in this verse focused on them. I really would.
We need to find a way to fund Lisa Henry's lifestyle so she can do nothing but write Teen Wolf fanfic for the rest of her life.

"It's not fair to feel grief for losing things that haven't happened yet."

Ugh... I LOVE THIS SERIES SO HARD!!

"If he guesses, he won't let you choose."

"What? Who are you talking about, Conor?"

"The Nemeton won't be able to help you," Conor whispers, and wraps his arms around Stiles's neck. "Dead things can't help you."

I love the kids in this series. I love Derek and Stiles in this series. I love the pack in this series. But most of all I LOVE TATA!!!! Every time, every single time one of the kids calls Stiles Tata I get the warm fuzzies. It's so, so lovely!!

I think this is my favourite of the three so far.

    Peter is such an asshole!!!

  • Eugenia

A rockstar finish to an awesome trilogy!!!

  • K

I will not start reading until it's all posted.... honest... no, really, I wont... erm...

    Okay I lied
I read up to the end of chapter 4... now waiting very impatiently for the next chapter...

Erm... chapter 6... note well... do not read during your lunch hour... for the pained cry of "WTF! you can't leave it there!!" is not something that is expected in legal offices...

Chapter 7 - and I am back on familiar territory - because I have actually seen series 1....

Chapter 8 - oh so, lull is into a false sense of security with these memories....

SO... 14 chapters... of high drama and paedo Peter .... followed my schmaltz and a kitten... *sighs*

What do I send to get more stories?

  • Fifi LaFleur

I absolutely loved this. Wibbley wobbley timey wimey makes me very happy. BAMF Conor makes me happy. Creeper Peter makes me happy. Stiles and Derek and their family make me happy. So much about this... just... wow. Loved seeing Conor with a pal, he breaks my heart.

Thanks, DW, for perking up a crappy month. I really can't wait for the next one. I want more Conor.

  • Trix

First of all... look at that cover. That puppy is soooo darn cute. I just want to hug it to death!

Ahem, back to business. I was going to be a bit pissed if the third installment had also been about taking on another kid. Enough is enough! With that said, I really felt for Connor, for not having any friends, feeling so isolated at school. It had more of a resonance when it was compared to Stiles' childhood and you see how lonely it was for Conor. On the opposite pole there was Claudie who was so vivacious and energetic, made you smile just seeing her run around and being mischievous (I can’t help but imagine her something like this). And last but not least, you had to love Luke, young and innocent. His most endearing trait was sucking his thumb when emotionally overwhelmed. How can you not love that?

This had a good start. I thought for a little while that the action might resolve around the waking of the Nemeton (what with Conor always visiting it). But there was more to it than that. When the Alpha pack was mentioned, I felt slightly disappointed that after 2 original plots, Discontentedwinter would fall back on the TV show’s villains. Nonetheless, her writing is too good and I knew even a rehashed theme would sound good coming from this author. So I witnessed as Luke is kidnapped by one of the Alphas and the whole pack mounts a rescue. With the unlikely help of Peter, presumed dead for years but making a comeback. Yet I knew the clash between the Hales and the Alpha pack wasn’t the main event. Not when I was just 1/3 in the book. That’s not to say the fight scene wasn’t awesome. Because it was. I love Discontentedwinter’s writing style. Her short phrases, the things she chooses to emphasise, the distinction of the characters. You never get lost or lose track of a character at any given time. And she can pull off Stiles so wonderfully. You really feel inside his head.

And after the fight is won and everyone is licking their wounds and having their guard down, the unexpected happens. Peter lashes out and in the blink of an eye, kills both Derek and Stiles. I had to read that twice because it didn’t seem possible. There was no way Peter would be able to do that. But in comes Conor to save the day. He keeps Stiles from dying and sends him back in time to make sure Peter is killed for good the first time around. Follows the really good part of the book, where Stiles is trapped in his high school years with every one of his family distant and estranged. He misses his family terribly and is pure agony to see Derek but not be able to be with Derek. The struggle of keeping to the original timeline as much as possible so as not to completely rewrite his future. You ache alongside Stiles as he fights to do the right thing. Brilliant! And since Discontentedwinter is quite a fan of the Steter fandom, no wonder she snuck that almost rape scene. I could totally feel Stiles’ tremors and repulsion once the adrenaline wore off and he realized what had almost happened.

But she wasn’t quite that cruel. So Stiles’ first time is still with Derek. Nothing actually happens between Peter and Stiles. Things go as planned and Stiles beheads and burns Peter’s body. He goes back to his present self to confront the Alpha pack, this time minus Peter. And since Stiles can’t help himself, he does pick up another stray. This time just an ordinary cat. Oh, and Conor finally makes a friend. I was so relieved and happy for that. And Scott, Alison and Isaac will be having a baby.

All in all, an awesome series. Amazing plot for each installment, defined and detailed characters, rich background and expansion of the world, excellent writing. Worth reading or rereading.
