A man born among violence with a heavily burdened mind.
He wasn't the sort of man fairy tales were made of, but he was sinfully beautiful, and addictively seductive.
Dark and dangerous, yet utterly alluring.
I’d fooled myself once, only allowing myself to see the beauty in him despite the shadows I’d glimpsed in his eyes.
When that darkness took over, I ran.
And now he’s found me.
He’d trusted me with his love and now he wants it back. And he’s all too willing to crush my heart to make his whole again.
Juliana betrayed me.
Went against everything I believed in and pushed the monster I tried to keep hidden out into the open.
Our love was twisted—and I’d made it that way. But I wasn't prepared to let it go.
I hunted her for years, picking up traces of her scent as she moved from city to city to escape me.
Now that I've found her, I’m not sure even her fiery light can brighten the blackout she left me in when she walked away.
Mature content warning: This title is darkly romantic and intended for adults 18+ due to explicit sexual content, language, violence, and dubious consent.

4 haunted man stars
"I've done some shitty things, angel. When the day comes, just know I'm the man who loves you. No matter how you feel about me... I love you."
Devlin UnLeashed is a story that I can't go in full detail about, but it is a story worth reading in my opinion, it's a different take on a tale I thought I have read but never really did. Devlin and Julianna's story is told in three parts:
Part One A Monster's Love
Part Two Our Twisted Past
Part Three Love Transcended
...it unfolds the details as needed, but never left me feeling confused or lost. Understanding that there are reasons behind it all allowing me to justifying their actions.
Devlin is a intense-complex man, who had a horrible past, that made him into the man he is today. He is found always questioning and assessing the truth from the lie in everything around him except for his own life; settled on believing the worst about himself."I don't devour, Juliana. I savor, lick the wounds I left behind, stake my claim, and make sure I save something for when the hunger strikes again."
Juliana on the other hand, is finally living her life and is ready to take back the control she unknowingly gave away. Drawing strength from a man, who is as crazy about her as she is about him. A man who loves her too the point of madness. She'd fucking ruined me years ago, and being with her again was proof positive that she still had the power to completely destroy me. She didn't know it, but I'd just handed her everything, and it was too late to save myself.
This is a case where love may not be able to conquer all...
Devlin is a character that just came to life from the pages, I saw his calculated darkness, felt his grip on his control and the longing and yearning for Juliana. Juliana had a strength in her that was refreshing, while she was caught up in all that was Devlin, she didn't once stand to be walked on or put aside.
The familiarity between them moves along the process of their relationship, bypassing the normal games that people play. The time lapse between chapters, and the movement between past and present wasn't as clear, but not completely confusing, I just had to allow myself some time to adjust. We followed a small side story of her friends, but never really got the outcome, to be honest I somewhat forgot about them, they kind of just dropped off allowing me to fully focus in on the main characters... who knows what will become of them.
Their story is intense, not necessarily dark, but it does pull at your heart, rooting for everything to work it's self out, but unsure how exactly that can be done. I enjoyed this dual POV standalone read, and will look to see what else the author has in store for us.

God, I love crazy guys! I have got to tell ya... I really liked this. I mean I had a couple of issues in the beginning (I really hate the cover) but as the story progressed I kinda forgot about them. I'll see if I can remember how to write a review.
And shout out to the author... Please write Tyler's story! -
4 UNLEASHING STARS
Devlin & Juliana ♥
He’d infected me with his poison
incurable by space and time.
Devlin was the virus and the antidote,
andwithouthim,
I existed with a
dull ache in my heart.."
So I stumbled across this novel. No regrets. I really enjoyed this novel and it's not my first read from
Bethany Bazile.
I was disappointed when it ended .. I wish it had been more longer because I felt it wasn't asthorough. Devlin .. hmm Mr.Ward is quite irresistible! He is a schizophrenic which caused him to see and believe scenarios that weren'thappening. We all have our demons and both Juliana and Devlin have there fair share which they overcome.
It is a fast read and I recommend for you
Bethany Bazile fans as well as a good first book to start off with from this talented author.

3 Pulled in Two Directions * * *
This was something which made me more of an observer than reader. The blurb and idea is on the cryptic and dark side. The man has desires for this woman... and it stems from the past...She does not seem to know this though...She feels his magnetic pull and both of them circle each other knowing what the outcome will be.
A scorching, soul-wrecking, claiming encounter with her feeling a wish for maybe more... Him with an obsession and fight to hold back the demons.
This read has a complete plot and the scenes between these two could be intense at times. Add an important societal issue which does not get addressed as it should in life and you have an ambitious tale.
Pam's review was so stunning I could not help myself from finding this and reading it.
This has violence and dubious consent.

**SPOILER ALERT **
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
"The first time I saw her, something inside me called out to her, and she answered that call like she'd been waiting her whole life for it."
This is one of the most erotic, dark, twisted, disturbing books I've ever read!!! It deserves millions of stars! Frustrating, sad, heart wrenching and exhausting as hell ... but in the end loved Devlin and Juliana’s story... Call me twisted!!! This story is dark, tense, absolutely beautiful in a disturbing sort of way. I kept questioning myself why did I like it? Why do I feel sorry for Devlin’s broken soul, why I want them to be together despite everything that has happened? Devlin suffers from a severe mental illness and we discover just how sick he is along with Juliana. He is fearless, dark, sexy, domineering, controlling and scared of his own mental ability and inner strength. Juliana’s dark past has transformed her from a broken soul into a strong, sexy, smart, determined woman. The sexual tension between them is explosive. This book has it all - massive amounts of drama, kidnapping, violence, hot sex, many twists!!
If you're looking for a fantastic, dark, erotic story, then you should read this one!!!!! -

Here are some thoughts on this book:
-The book started off with a great premise. It sucked me in from the beginning, but ulitmately ended up falling short for me.
-Devlin had the ability to be the ultimate crazed alpha. There is nothing more sexy than a mentally unstable sexy man who leaves you wondering just how far he can push the heroine. But nope. That did not happen with Devlin. He was all bark, and no bite. I was really hoping that the author would play up more with his . Although it was touched upon a bit, I do wish that we could have seen more of him coping with it in the book. It seems like he was magically cured from it by the end!
-I had a hard time connecting with Juliana. After hearing the truth of how Devlin knows her, she stays with him! What is with that?! what kind of woman stays with a man Is that a turn on?! Am I weird for not finding that sexy?
Will I be checking out other books by this author? Yeah, most likely. Although I wasn't 100% happy with the book, she is a good writer and the book DEF had some great potential. -

Despite reading a few reviews before starting this book, I was totally unprepared for the journey I just took.
First off, let me say that this story was beautifully, and most importantly sensitively, written.
The cover was freaking hot!! That cover model (James Joseph according to Bethany Bazile's acknowledgments section) has made an incredibly beautiful picture right there. Lick. Slurp. Yum.
The characters and story were extraordinary. This was one of the first books I've read about mental illness that made me feel like I could actually be in the mind of someone suffering through a mental break. Astounding really. I know that in actuality mental disease is a lot more complex than what was described here. Though I have been fortunate not to have mental illness prevalent in my family, my mother has worked in the field of mental health longer than I've been alive (over 30 years) and I have been to work with her many times and therefore have met some wonderful people who are suffering from diseases of the mind. I also minored in Psychology in Uni and have respect for anyone who is respectful when discussing matters of the mind.
I like that the author showed that Devlin and Julianna were so supportive of each other, despite their history (or maybe because of it). Being lost in one's mind, questioning what is an illusion and what is real, the confusion felt authentic. I myself was confused many many times. The darkness that lived within Devlin seemed to truly have a life of its own. I'm just glad that he was able to get some help in the end.
I did have to remove a star because the name confusion (errors) were driving me nuts. The first time I noticed it was when Devlin's brother Tyler was introduced in the story. Then towards the end, Juliana worked with a dude named Joshua, but then his name changed to Evan. There were other errors that had nothing to do with names, but these were the ones that stood out the most for me.
My favourite line in the book was "I've done some shitty things, angel. When the day comes, just know I'm the man who loves you. No matter how you feel about me... I love you."
Enjoy! xo -
An engrossing, cleverly executed dark, erotic romance. I will not give away any of the plot because it would ruin the suspense and intensity that the author has so skillfully managed. There is obsession, non as well as dubious consent, a lot of violence, and at the same time, heartbreakingly affecting tenderness and love. I would compare it favorably to dark romances such as Twist Me, by Anna Zaires, Underestimated, by Jettie Woodruff, or Monster in his Eyes, by JM Darhower. Minor gripes: Tyler Preston becomes Tyler Prescott and then Preston again, and finally Prescott. This book is too well written to be marred by such typos. Also, and this is again imho, the title and cover picture don't reflect the nature or quality of this book. It makes it look like a NA or YA romance, not the dark, gritty, completely mind-bending book that it is. Because of that, it may undeservedly be shunned by the readers to whom it would appeal the most.
-
Devlin is cocky and oh so sure of himself, "it's not implied, Julianna. We're going to eff. I just need to know how many of your games I have to play to get there." He comes off as a bad guy but deep down, like 8,000 feet down he cares, "he ran a hand through his hair and looked away. "I needed to know you were okay." Devlin and Julianna go through a lot of ups and downs, actually to me it seemed mainly downs our boy needed help and I think with Julianna by his side he's going to do just fine. I liked this book, Devlin was an alpha male who needed to meet the right woman.
-
This story had little bits of everything going on. Too much really, with too little explained.
I didn't get the entire captor thing. I think I missed something. If anyone can explain please do. Was there was no huge fall out over her kidnap? Did anyone search for her abductors? Or was it all just glossed over?
The main character 'purportedly' has/had a mental illness but it wasn't illustrated very well and further confused the story, in my humble opinion. It was thrown in Willy Nilly, when it suited, as where many side characters.
God knows what happened to her two besties that played a pivotal part in the first few chapters. I get it wasn't 'their' story but because of what we learn about them I kept expected an update on their situation, was it resolved? Who knows. Oh maybe they died. Okay I'm being bitchy now, so lets just say this book wasn't a winner for me.
The descriptive writing was good, although not always fitting!
This would be lovely spoken by a female....but spoken by a supposed 'monster' talking about his brother, not so much. His penetrating stare seared me every single time. The green flecks in his eyes twinkled similarly to my mother's."
On a positive it was reasonably well written, only a couple of minor typos. It is far from the worse book I've read and I think many readers will like it a lot. I freely admit I tend to analysis stories more than the average reader, so take my comments with a grain of salt. Take a chance and decide for yourself, you might be pleasantly surprised and enjoy the story. :)

Okay, let me put it this way; this is my kind of book. Like, seriously. Where has this author been hiding??? Probably behind my endless to -be-read list. I would rate this higher if I could.
What a dark, but emotional ride. I loved everything about this book. The writing was phenomenal, flawless and skillful. The characters were so well written that I could literally see them moving, feeling, experiencing the story right on my screen. And what deeply moving characters they were.
Juliana...Juliana must be one of my most favorite heroines ever. I loved her and I could connect with her. Her troubled life moved me deeply.
Devlin...just...wow. That man will make your heart pound, he will break it and then put it back together again. What a complicated character. I felt for him in a way that was terrifying. His actions, lines, his special mind-hell, even the personal demons he was fighting against- made me fall in love with him despite the sharp twists and turns his character took throughout the story.
And yes, the story itself was amazing. Full of twists, agony, lust, love, fear and pure emotion. Clever storyline and brilliantly executed. One of the best books 2015 has brought to me so far.
If you love complex, dark and bittersweet stories, then this is for you. Devlin Ward will have you panting. He is that mesmerizing.
5 Golden Stars. I will be checking out more of this author's work. -
4.5 Stars. Devlin UnLeashed was an intense story that pulled at my heart.
First time reading this author and I was not disappointed. This book sucked me in from page one. Beautifully written, the author did a good job giving us two great characters. I felt the strong connection between them emotionally and physically. It was a beautiful twisted love story and the chemistry between the two was off the charts hot.
I loved Devlin! The emotions he suffered, the lengths he went to, to hide his disease from the world and from Juliana. I found his vulnerability toward her endearing and sexy. Because of his psychopath of a father what Devlin went through in the past was horrible and triggered the onset of his mental illness. His past shaped him into the man he is today; a tortured soul.
Juliana survived a horrific event when she was seventeen. When she learnt the truth and the role Devlin played in her past everything they had was crushed. Devastated she ran from him.
Juliana was the one who anchored him, made everything disappears, made him feel complete and helped him to clear his head from his demons. Their love was an addiction and they couldn't live without each other.
I also liked Tyler a lot and really hope that we get his story. I’m so looking forward to seeing what his future holds.
This book was a page turner and it will have you wanting more! -
"I hate you."
"I know.I hate me, too.
But I fucking love you."
And with that, he murdered me—finished me off as if I hadn’t sacrificed enough of myself for him.
-
Super steamy and copious sex, some mental illness and some typos...all sum up to a 4 star read
-
Fantastically dark and yet it had it's sweet moments too. Devlin Ward was such a well written character! The author takes us on a journey through the head of a truly damaged schizophrenic man. I really enjoyed this book. My heart went out to Devlin! And the sexy times were HOT! My only problem was the cover. WHY AUTHOR WHY?!?! That cover is so awful! It looks like a YA/NA book on first glance and that's probably the reason why I read this book so long after it came out. Please get a better cover artist next time, there are people (like myself) who judge books by their covers! And that title! I actually assumed it was one of those MMA fighter/boxer romances. Anyway, must recommend for lovers of dark romance and freaky sex.

My 4 Star Review for Devlin Unleashed by Bethany Bazile
Summary:
Devlin Ward was raised surrounded by violence and voices he can’t seem to shut off. He is a man people feared and he also gets what he wants. With his good looks and his alluring touches, no woman stands a chance against him. One touch by this dark and dangerous man, you are addicted. Devlin has finally found the one who got away and this time, he won’t be able to let her go.
Juliana Callahan is a survivor. Trying to move on from a horrific incident from a few years ago, one that ruined her for all men. Although she wants to forget, her body remembers as does her heart.
When Juliana runs into Devlin, they have an immediate connection. Her mind tells her to run and never look back but her body begs her to stay and craves his touch. Their relationship becomes a whirlwind romance and when their past comes to light, everything they had is crushed and Juliana is devastated and torn between a hatred so strong and a love so twisted.
You know how they say that the truth shall set you free? Well in this case, it may tear them apart forever.
My Thoughts:
I loved both characters.
Juliana, endured a horrific event and has done everything to overcome it. Still broken, she craves what her monster gave her and she hasn’t had that feeling with anyone. With Devlin, she is attracted to his darkness. There is something that she craves from him, she knows he is dangerous but she also knows that he won’t her hurt, physically anyway. She sees him and knows that he himself is dealing with his own monsters.
Devlin’s father groomed him to become the man he is today. The thing is, nobody will love a monster. He knows he should stay away from her but he also wants to save her from the past.
This isn’t a love story with all sunshine and rainbows, this is dark and twisted. When the one you love is the one that hurt and destroyed you, it leaves a scar on both parties.
For one, it is a battle of how can I love this person and for the other is a battle of a dark knight’s choice. How do you explain to the love of your life that what was done was done to keep her alive? Slowly the monster he desperately tries to hide begins to surface and Juliana learns the truth.
I enjoyed this story as dark and twisted as it was. Both characters are dealing with the worst kind of pain and betrayals. Both characters are strong enough to face their fears head on and in the end, are there for each other.
It is a devastatingly beautiful love story. Wrong in so many ways but beautifully dark in the right ways. -
Devlin UnLeashed is the first book I read by Bethany Bazile and I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to check out more of her books. I rarely read book synopsis before starting a book. I find that when I do the book usually disappoints me. With Devlin UnLeashed, I decided to read it because it was categorized as a dark erotic romance. I started reading it with the intention of just reading it for a few minutes to get the feel for the story line and coming back to finish later. Well that didn't happen, I got hooked right from the prologue. There was some mystery to what was going on and I couldn't put the book until I read the whole story.
We know right from the begging that Juliana went through some life changing event when she was seventeen. We are not told upfront what is was but I just had this feeling that it was something big and Juliana is a strong person to over come it. Juliana bumps into Devlin a couple times and ends up going on a date with him. Things heat up between the two of them pretty quickly. They seem to fall right into a good boyfriend girlfriend relationship. Devlin, wow, Devlin. Devil is a sexy mysterious bad boy. He has secrets and you know they are going to big and life changing. He has tracked and watched Juliana for a while. Who Devlin is and how he plays into Juliana life unfolds in a story that will keep you anxious to turn to the page.
There is an author warning: "This title is darkly romantic and intended for Adults 18+ due to explicit sexual content, language, violence, and dubious consent." If you are a little squeamish to book with dark element then this one may not be for you. I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it as a must read.
A copy was received for a review. -
Bethany's writing is all consuming in this book. Bringing Devlin's emotional instability to the forefront, along with his mental illness. Trying to fight his demons without any help, no drugs, no doctor. His only relief came from her, Juliane. His obsession, his redemption, his weakness. Juliane's past led her to a life her Dad planned for her. What she had endured left her weak. The kidnapping, the rape, the betrayal of her boyfriend when she caught him having sex with someone else, her Dad's expectations of working for his company once she finished college. To return home, to get back with the betraying man her father wanted her with was not what she wanted.
Devlin's obsession with Juliane brings them together, again. She feels alive and free for once in her life after being with Devlin. Devlin feels peace from his mental chaos when he is with her, still. How these two characters are intertwined with each other, is explosive.
Juliane learns from Nicholas, how she and Devlin are connected, from before. She knows her Dad has put Nicholas up to this. Nicholas is who her father wants her to be with. She walks away once the truth is revealed to her. Leaving Devlin to fight his demons, to succumb to the demons he has fought so hard against. He fights not to turn into his father, Damien.
Once the whole truth comes out, these two characters feel all the betrayal that has been put upon them, the grief, sadness, trust, hope and love.
This is a dark, dangerous book that brought out all the good in two characters that deserved the love they had given to each other. I loved reading every page of this book. I give this 5 stars. -
Devlin Ward
Juliana Callahan
Well, this was a quick read for me, by another "new to me author" and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Devlin ward is the devil, hiding behind the guise of a successful businessman. A man suffering from schizophrenia, but unable to
take that final step of acceptance and seek medical help. He's broken and hurting.
Juliana Callahan is part of Devlin's hurt, but she has no idea that she has contributed to it. Juliana's life too, looks great to the outsider, but she is also suffering inside, struggling to cope, and it's all Devlin's fault!
Devlin has reached the point of desperation over his pain and loss and Juliana is the only one who can ease it. He needs her in his life... permanently, but how does he go about that, bearing in mind his past?
This is a great Dark romance, with a complete, but open ending. There is a lot goes on, and too much to talk about in a review without doing
spoilers. This is an exciting read, probably more for a more mature reader, as there are some scenes that could be classed as disturbing to some, but it's all in keeping with the story.
This was a really great read, by an author who I will be looking for more from. -
Devlin UnLeashed was even better than I thought it would be! It was a forbidden, beautiful, heartbreaking tale. I completely loved this incredible book!
I was interested in Devlin UnLeashed as soon as I read the synopsis. Eh, what can I say? I love dark romances, and hot alpha men who claim their women and are determined to keep them. That's just what I like and this book did not disappoint! It's the perfect combination of dark and light, sexy and sweet.
Devlin and Juliana's love isn't conventional considering their history, but it's real and beautiful and right. They both need, complement, and can't live without each other. I loved their fierce passion, their sweetness, and just simply their love.
Juliana and Devlin's past will rip your heart out and the struggle they face to overcome it will make your heart ache, make you angry, and make you cry. It will also have you rooting for them to get better and get their HEA because they deserve some peace and happiness. This was truly an amazing book, I loved it, and I can't wait to read more from Ms. Bazile!
Devlin UnLeashed is a standalone told from both the H/h's POV and they do get their HEA. ~ Paige, 5 stars -
Karia’s thoughts…4 Star and…more…
This book was more like two books…the first half was Devlin and Julianna meeting, falling in love, dabbling in their dark passions. Then the first half abruptly ends when Julianna allows others to come between her and Devlin.
Self-preservation, fear, the risk of loss…for all these and many more complicated reasons, the two part. I hated when they were apart. I hated Devlin’s choices the most, but honestly, I wanted more of Julianna’s time while they were apart. She describes her feelings of loss and loneliness without him in like ½ page…I would have wanted this to be a chapter or more really…her wandering, her running from him and yet towards him…this push and pull was eluded to but could have been truly fleshed out and if it were done right, it would have torn my heart out!
I loved their HEA and it fit with them. Of course when I love a story, I want more, but it was a great little read! Super steamy and copious sex, some mental illness and some typos…all sum up to a 4 star read! Enjoy! -
This one is hard to rate as the story and the characters are written well However as I couldnt relate to what was happening I found it over the top and not an escape rather than a tragic news story.
The sex scenes were too much of the same thing and the relationship felt completely unbelieveable.
Sometimes I just wished that the authour would just get on with the story it was really long winded. I actually had to put it down and pick up something else to read to get out of the slump.
I felt there were too many questions that should have been answered and more detail of the illness.
All up a so so read. I will not be following this author. -
Ok, so I did like this book but the H's mental illness was handled very poorly. What he did to the h was so horrific and unforgivable. I didn't buy his feelings for her; they were OTT and seemed more related to his mental illness than the h. The h was really pathetic also. Her actions when she first meets the H were careless and she acted like an airhead. I did not care about the h's friends and their drama. I did like the H's brother and really really hope we get his story.
-
I had mixed feelings about this book. I definitely enjoyed reading it. I won't deny that in the least. The hesitation comes with Devlin. I get that he is dark and cold but I don't ever feel him thaw to out heroine for more than a brief glimpse. Was he in lust? Absolutely. Vengeful? uh..yeah! In love? I'm not sold. I know love is complicated but I don't think that's what I saw between Dev and our heroine and what they shared.
-
excellent
The only reason I have this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I thought it should have been a little longer. This story contains an alpha male, steamy sex and angst. This book also deals with mental illness , schizophrenia for one. Very good book. -
Received from NetGalley for a Review.
I liked the story but it was along the lines of Captive in the Dark
-
Too much going on, with too little explained. I feel like it was missing something.
-
Did not finish book. The heroine is in college and the classes and friend drama didn't appeal to me.
