Shooter

I ran away when I was fifteen and never looked back. I built a new life: good friends, wild adventures, and an endless parade of gorgeous women. But then I got a call that changed everything; a call that told me it was time to go back and face my demons.

I never thought I'd find an angel along the way...

Amelia

He was the absolute last thing I needed in my life: someone incapable of taking anything seriously, a notorious ladies' man, oh, and did I mention... a killer? As in, he shot people. For a living. Yeah, definitely someone I had no plans on letting in. Except, he set his sights on me and, well, when a man like him laid on the charm, he did it thick and in a way that made you never want him to stop. My only saving grace was that he was only in town for a few days.

But when I found myself in a situation and he was the only one who had any answers, well, let's just say... things got complicated...

* This is a stand-alone with a HEA, but features side characters from "Reign", "Monster", and "Cash"

    4 Stars!!

    description

Jessica Gadziala delivered such a fun, sweet and entertaining read. “Killer” was a fantastic mix of steam and romance and to be honest it was better than I had expected. It fallows the story of Johnnie Walker Allen ‘Shooter’ character we previously met in ‘Monster’ another great book by this author and the sweet lady that will steal his heart, Amelia.

Shooter left his home in Alabama when he was fifteen years old. Growing up in a trailer park, without a mother and with a shitty drunk father who constantly abused him wasn’t easy to say the least. His life changed when Breaker, the man who will become his best friend helps him. Over the years he built himself a life. Now, Shooter has a home, money, friends and he’s known to be the best contract killer in the city. When Shooter finds out from his grandmother that his estranged father passed away, he knows he will have to go back. In Alabama he meets his father’s next door neighbor, Amelia.

Amelia is the counselor who helped Shooter’s father with his drinking problem. She helps people start over, helping them repair the damage they created all the years they were using. She’s good people, with a big heart, truly believing that everyone deserves a second chance. She had these walls around her, to protect her heart, because she knows what it means to be hurt by people you love or to be left all alone, but Shooter will break her walls from the beginning.

Amelia is taken aback by Shooter’s personality and also by his honesty. She tries to stay away from him, knowing for sure he’s dangerous for her heart. On top of that, he shoots people for a living. What starts as a tentative friendship between them becomes something more when Amelia’s life gets complicated and she finds herself in a dire situation.

I really enjoyed this one. I loved Shooter from the moment I’ve met him in ‘Monster’. I was fascinated by him because frankly he was like nothing I expected a contract killer to be. He was that fun, carefree guy you usually read about in your college romance novels, not the guy who was supposed to be dark and scary. Shooter’s personality was pure and simply fun. I loved it! And his honesty about everything was endearing to say the least. I have to admit that he charmed the pants off me from the beginning. He was fun, he was sexy, he was sweet, he was caring and just a little bit of an alpha male. He was pretty much exactly how I like my heroes to be.

Amelia was a great, endearing character from the start. Like I previously mentioned she has a big heart. She is inexperienced, a little awkward and also a little naïve, but you will love her strength and determination as the story unfolds. I loved the way she put Shooter in his place and I enjoyed how hard she tried to fight off her attraction for him. It was fun!

I loved Amelia and Shooter together. They were wonderful together, a pretty perfect match. I loved their dynamic, the sexual tension between them and also how sweet and tender they were to each other...everything really!

Unlike ‘Monster’ this one is not so action-packed. However, we have a little bit of action and suspense. The pace of the story was also pretty great, the story line was entertaining and the cast of supporting characters engaging and well written!

    Overall, a fantastic read!

"Best fuckin' thing that ever happened to me,having to
go back to face my demons and finding my angel."

Jessica what have you done to me...???I mean I was your fan since I read "Monster" and slowly became a stalker fun with what was coming next...and then BOOM Shooter is in my life ROCKING
MY FUCKING WORLD!You didn't disappoint me with this book!
It was everything I was hoping for!
    description
I LOOOOOOVED Shooter since the first time I met him. He was the funny guy who didn't take anything seriously and made jokes when everything was fucked up and bat shit crazy, you know to lighten things up!
He was that kind of guy, with the big heart and even bigger cock.
    description
I loved Amelia too.She had her issues by being guarded to protect her heart but tried to be strong! She was the heroine this book needed, she was shy, awkward and naive. She just couldn't keep Shooter out of her heart,I mean I don't blame her because he was hot and charming "He got the moves" to make pants drop all around him!
    He was that charming....

He's a bad boy who will roll you around the sheets and never call you again.
    description
Shooter and Amelia met when he returned in his hometown after his father died, she was the counselor who helped him quit drinking. They just clicked! They fought and were attracted to each other at the same time....HOOOOOT!

"She used to tell me that the prettiest roses have the biggest thorns.
    It's a defense mechanism.So I get you,Amelia Alvarado."

Shooter and Amelia were great together! They found pieces that were missing from their lives in each other although they were scared having all those feelings and didn't know what to do with
them.I just devoured this book so quickly I couldn't wait for the next page...

"I like the way you try to put me in my place.I like that you know how to cook and bake.I like that you're passionate about helping people you don't even know.I like the way you hate my fuckin' cat.I like the way you filled out those jeans shorts the first day I met you and the way you filled out a sundress even better.O like the way some of your smiles can mean "fuck you" and I like the way your voice dips low and shy when you're unsure of yourself.babe, how the fuck much more do I need to simply declare that I like it?"

This book was sweeter than the previous ones.It was funny, they were flirting and had some hot kissing sessions, trying to keep it together without success...There weren't a lot of bad things happening until the end and that wasn't half bad compared to the previous books. They tried to know each other so there weren't a lot of sex scenes but that was OK (YES I just said that!Me who I LOVE hot couples going at it like animals in heat). The few sex scenes they had were pretty damn HOT and passionate and Shooter was such a gentleman! He took care of her,he was patient and made sure everything they did was ok with her.

In fact the only way to make this dinner better
is to get some of that for dessert.

But no one had made me as hard as Amelia managed to by spitting fire
at me by pricking me with her thorns,by giving me her rare small smile,
her quiet laugh by just fucking...existing.

I also loved that we saw the whole gang a lot in this book, having a good time around each other and helping things going smoothly...I really enjoyed this book!
And once again I freaking love Janie and Wolf! Can't wait for their book!

So thanks Jessica for creating this sweet book!

Johnnie Walker Allen left his life in Alabama when he was fifteen years old and tired of the beatings his drunk father gave him. No one in the small town he grew up in would help him, so he left. He started his life over as Shooter, one of the best damn contract killers out there.

When his grandmother calls to tell him that his father has died, he knows he has to go back to at least take care of the funeral arrangements. Going back to Alabama is one of the last things on Earth that he wants to do, but when he shows up and meets his dad's next door neighbor he realizes maybe going back wasn't such a bad thing after all.

Amelia keeps her walls up high to make sure people stay far away from her, ensuring that she won't get hurt when the people in her life leave, which they inevitably will. Then Shooter shows up, completely open and honest about everything in his life, and the one person who wants to take the time to get past her defenses. She wants to stay away from him, but then her life gets complicated and full of bad men and she needs Shooter's help.

I have loved Shooter since I first met him in Monster, and I wanted to know more about it from that moment on. When Jessica announced that his book was coming next, I'm pretty sure I did a not-so-cool happy dance and probably freaked out some of my co-workers. When we were first introduced to him he was this care free type of guy, and that's what drew me to his character, so I was happy when I read this one and saw that he still had that personality that I loved. He was so honest about everything, and I adored that about him, and it actually made him really sexy.

Amelia, I have to admit, was a lot different than I was expecting, just because she wasn't like the past heroines that JG has written about. But that was part of her charm, she wasn't a gun toting fighter, or have any part in the criminal underworld, yet she was kickass in her own way. I enjoyed that she wasn't like the other girls we've met from this group of characters, and yet she still fit in with all of them. Her and Shooter were actually a pretty perfect match, and I loved them together. Amelia had her walls high up to keep Shooter out, but his complete openness about everything is the one thing that could knock them down.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story, and it was just as good as I was expecting. I loved the characters, especially Shooter, and their story was amazing. It had a little bit of suspense, a lot of sweetness, and some very hot scenes.

Killer can be read as a standalone, but there are characters from past books that are involved in Shooter's story that will make you want to put your life on hold to read their books also, if you haven't already. No spoilers are revealed with their presence but you do learn a little about their stories.

    4 shoot-ing stars

Jessica Gadziala’s books are full of characters that are easy to love, easy to care for, and more importantly, easy to relate to. Killer has an awesome storyline and so many amazing characters. I mean let’s face it, who doesn't love sexy guys that are in a mc club and first love romances?

We have sexy Shooter who’s the rough biker boy. He’s a killer, he likes his women fast and replaceable. He just isn’t looking for anything.

     photo tumblr_nxsd9xQhbc1ub8y6bo1_500_zpsswpheyia.gif

Then we have sweet Amelia. She is the good girl, she is well guarded and her heart is closed off. She’s pure beauty, she’s smart, she’s temptation.

These two are amazing characters, and the attraction they have burns bright. Shooter just might be willing to change his player bad boy ways to when over sweet Amelia but is Amelia willing to give her heart to a man that has a dangerous job? Their romance sucked me in and entertained me well. Shooter is the perfect combination of alpha male and nice guy. He makes me swoon!

     photo 17163958_zpsahxcyuwa.gif

The sexual tension was hot, and when Shooter and Amelia come together they’re combustible. For me, the book lacks narrative tension but has plenty of emotional heft.

Overall, the story made me feel happy seeing two people so lost find happiness when together. The author weaves a story so well and I look forward to the next one!

I luvd this Shooter is just amazing

I 've luvd Shooter from the first time I got a bit of him when I read Monster he was so funny totally gorgeous with his style an tattoos an he just so luvable he would probably hate this but he is an this book just proves it he had a really shitty upbringing his dad was a alcoholic an would beat al the time an no one would do anything he lived in a small town in Alabama where everyone knows your business an people did see what Shooter went through but wouldn't say anything so at 15 he had had enough so he ran away this is how he met Breaker who took him in an gave him a chance this is where he learned to work with guns an he as ended up bein the best sniper there is

When Shooter found out his dad had died the last place he wanted to go was back to Alabama but his grandma needed him so he would go to sort arrangement an then go home he didn't even want to stay for the funeral so when he got there an found out his dad had been clean for 2 yrs he was shock an that wasn't the only think that shocked him when he got to his dad's apartment there was a gorgeous sexy woman there an Shooter was likin what he was seein this sexy woman is Amelia she was his dad alcoholic counsellor an she is helped him get better an she was also the person to stop is dad getting the expensive whiskey Shooter would send home every month so she was pretty pissed when she first met him but her sassy attitude just made him want her more

Amelia as been on her own for ages an getting to now Shooters dad had made things a lil better for to deal with life she doesn't date or as never slept with anyone she doesn't need people in her life cause al they do is leave so she doesn't get close to any body so when she meet Shooter she was surprised how much he could read her she had sheltered herself for so long so when he started making his move she was shocked how much she want it Ye she found him sexy as hell but she also knew bits about him that she didn't like it was goin to b hard keeping them walls in place

Once the funeral was over there was things started goin wrong they won't perfect anyway but Amelia got herself in a situation an she was goin to have to ask Shooter for his help an after the way things were when he left it was goin to b hard she still wanted him so bad he was haunting her dreams in the most perfect if he could do those things in her dreams she could only image what it would b like if they did get it on HOT HOT HOT

These books just keeps getting so good I actually didn't thing this story would of gone the way it did I thought Shooter would of been killing arose al over the place an he did but the story between him an Amelia was just so good I enjoyed loads an getting more of the others characters just made it even better I luv the gang an it's making very inpatient for Janie an Wolf's book I m dyin for it I would highly recommend this book it written brilliant an every else is just as good xxx

Yes! Yes! Yes! 5 Stars! Jessica G has done it AGAIN!
I have fallen head over heals for these men and Shooter's book did not disappoint!

In the beginning I got frustrated at the way Alabama was portrayed...I mean...do you not remember this beauty came from here..

    description

Of course, in true Jessica fashion she had me staying up late, working less and forgetting about real life just to get to know another 'Savage'.

Shooter is care free, foul mouthed, tatted and has a huge heart. I love the way he swoops in and saves the day for Amelia and even though he is a womanizing slut he didn't hesitate to show he cared when he realized she was special to him.
As always, Amelia finds herself in a heap of trouble and she ask for Shooter's help. With Shooter comes the whole gang... The Henchmen and Savages... The bond these men share is fantastic... The family they formed together with the bad ass girls in their life makes me want to jump straight on a plane to Navesink! I loved being able to catch up with the whole crew!
We see more of Paine (swoon) and meet a new hottie named Dade. Jessica keeps me hanging on for dear life!
I am counting the seconds to the next book!!!

I woke up to this ARC!!
    Thank you JG!!!
I'm totally swooning over the cover :)

I just do NOT understand how this book has a higher rating than
Monster. I know this happens with series continuations, but this installment was objectively worse than book 1. And I'm a little pissy about it, so... fair warning if you're about to go on this ride with me.

    description

If you're so inclined, you can find my review of Monster
    here.

So, we originally meet Shooter in book 1. He's Brian's bff and was a really fun sidekick in that story. (Oh, swoony Brian. I still wanna take him home.) He's a silly tatted-up charmer who got his nickname because of his kick ass ability with guns, if you couldn't figure that. His real name is Johnnie Walker Allen. Apparently mom didn't have a say, and his boozed-out daddy hilariously named him after his drink of choice.

Said pops was a total prick to Shooter when he was a kid. So when the old man dies, he's reluctant to give a fuck. However, he ends up heading home to Alabama basically just to pay for the funeral and dip. Except that's before he meets his dad's next door neighbor Amelia. Once he lays his eyes on dat ass, he decides to stick around for a bit. Hijinks ensue.

So... I'm not even sure how to express all the feels I have about this book. The premise sounds fun, right? Send an ex-redneck hitman down into the deep south and watch him sweep a little southern girl off her feet. Totally down for that.

    description

First thing's first. Shooter was a good sidekick but once his antics were front and center, it got old really fast. Every damn thing out of his mouth was "angel" this and "baby" that. The pet names are cute in small doses, and YES okay? We do say "darlin" and "sugar" a lot down here in the south. But Christ, not every fucking sentence! This became so very annoying by like... chapter 2. I was already over it.

Then we meet Amelia, and she is not so nice. She's just bitchy right off the bat and assumes an awful lot about Shooter before he even says 10 words to her. Her dumb mean girl vibes of COURSE give him a stiffy, and he's instantly smitten. But this isn't some chick being a badass, she's just rude and haughty.

Anyway, we kinda sorta figure out why she's like this, but it never really makes you like her more. And Mr. "Darlin Angel Baby" Allen decides that his womanizing days are through and he's gonna have this one for keeps. But like...

    description

This girl was whiney and boring and just did not have much in the way of personality. Plus? My man goes down on her at LEAST four times in less than a week. But guess what she doesn't do in return, not even once!?

    description

    But wait! There's more!

Yada yada yada, Shooter goes home and leaves her in Alabama. Then she finds some drugs in her wall so she runs all the way up to New Jersey to find him. LOL. There's some action, some angst, and a bunch of new side characters as they all band together to help her out of the pickle she's in with these drugs. She gets herself a little beat up, but Shooter and the Tat-Squad save the day in the nick of time.

Here is where my next problem starts. (Spoilers, btw. Dumb ones.) Once he murders someone for her and gets her to a hospital for a head wound, she's literally sitting on a bed in the ER when he decides to break up with her and walk away "for her own good". She has no friends, no family, she's across the country from her home, and was just manhandled by a drug dealer. THIS is the right time for him to break up with her?!? I mean, what the fuck? And then. And then! All these girls she doesn't know decide to tell her how she needs to not be a pussy and just move into his house and force him to be with her.

    description

I know this has been ranty and all over the place, but its just all so ridiculous. First of all, pretty much every problem between these two boiled down to miscommunication. This and "leaving for your own good" are two romance tropes that I can't stand! These are not good relationship signs. I really fucking struggled to understand why they were a good fit, especially when they couldn't even talk to each other. And I'm sorry, but fuck everyone who told her that she needed to "woman" up and force him to be with her. Excuse me, but no. That is not solid advice either, lol.

Anyway, I wanted to like this book SO bad. It had its moments, and my honey Brian was in a few little scenes, so that was a plus. But overall I just didn't like it. It felt so forced, so unnatural. I did not feel any connection whatsoever between Shooter and Amelia. It was a total bummer.

Read Monster, because its fun and super sexy. But pass on this one. That's my advice, and it's way better than "just move into his apartment when he's not looking."

    ***FIVE STARS***

    JOHNNIE

I completely fell in love with Johnnie (AKA Shooter). He's such a sweetheart, and the way he sweet talks, just melts my soul. I love him so much.

Johnnie grew up with an asshole of a father, who abused the hell out of him. At 15, he ran away from his abusive father, his worthless family who refused to protect him, and the shitty town he grew up in. Once he got out he never looked back. Johnnie grew up to become a major badass, full of tats and piercings, gorgeous as fuck, and he loves the ladies. Women adore Johnnie. Even though Johnnie has never been a one woman man, he loves them in every sense of the word. Johnnie is incredibly talented when it comes to sex, and women know that even though they don't have a prayer of landing him, he's worth any amount of time they can share with him. The memories he'd create would be absolutely incredible, cherished, and never forgotten.

Johnnie finds himself dragged back to his po-dunk shithole town, he grew up in, when his father dies, and his grandmother demands he return to help the family out during this hard time. I wouldn't have done it, but Johnnie is a better person than I am, and he comes home to take care of his father's funeral and pack up his father's belongings, so he can finally be rid of this town for good. Johnnie immediately runs into his father's next door neighbor Amelia, and she blows Johnnie off Big Time. Johnnie and Amelia's paths cross again and again, and even through Amelia tries her hardest to avoid Johnnie, she of course loses the battle. I mean, come on!!! It's Johnnie for hell's sake.

    AMELIA

Amelia definitely has trust issues, and she's mistakenly gotten the wrong impression of Johnnie from the get go. Amelia doesn't trust easily and she absolutely has her guards up, not only with Johnnie, but the male population in general. When Johnnie sets his sights on her though, he's absolutely irresistible. She continues to try to fight off her attraction for him as long as she can, but we all know, there's no denying Johnnie when he turns on his charms.

I really don't want to give away much more of the story, but it was a blast to read. There's a lot packed into this story, and many of the old gang characters from previous stories come together here again, . Although this story plenty of excitement in it, this isn't a total non stop action story, like JG's others. It's more of a sweet romance, with a slow build of anticipation between the virginal Amelia, and the Panty Melter Johnnie. I loved the slow burn of anticipation waiting for these two love birds to get together. It was worth the wait when it happens too, because the sex between them was absolutely smokin' hot!!

Great story, fabulous chemistry between Amelia and Johnnie, and I got my HEA. I adored every single second of this amazing story!!!

  • Natalie ~ The Biblioholic

I said I wanted to read Shooter's story... I patiently waited for it to come out... And I am completely satisfied, no ecstatic about the way things turned out.

I loved Shooter in book 1. His smiles, smirks, grace and humour under pressure, everything that made him... him... made me grin. He was a great character to get to know, and although his past was revealed in the previous book, this book went into a bit more detail. But that was such a small part of the story.

His cockiness, or maybe just extreme confidence, in his ability to sway Amelia in his favour was laughable even while I was rooting for him to succeed. I got why she was a bit cold, harsh, standoffish, and stubborn (daddy issues) but it took away from her likability factor IMO. It was hard to connect with her because she was so abrasive but I did enjoy her inner monologues. Her perspective put many smiles on my face.

My favourite scene is when Shooter comes home and takes a walk through his apartment and finds all of Amelia's things. Shit was hilarious!!

Once again, Jessica Gadziala has produced an incredible winner. All the characters mixed in a way that, if you haven't read their individual stories already, you can't help but want to (like me). I just can't get enough of these people (Breaker, Alex, Shooter, Amelia, Cash, Lo, Wolf, Janie, Paine, Reign and Summer). I look forward to more, more, more!!

    Enjoy! xo

  • XxTainaxX Curvy and Nerdy

Shooter and Amelia meet when he reluctantly returns to his hometown to bury his dad. These two have an immediate spark that was very fun to watch catch fire. Amelia is prickly on purpose but the southern charmer in Shooter seems to have insight beyond the thorns. When Amelia runs into some trouble, it's Shooter she goes to for protection. These two also get a chance to work through what's keeping them apart. Trouble, it seems, followed her and Shooter and his friends come together to get her out of it. The plot is good. Pacing and writing done well. The characters are unique and interesting. I'm hooked on this world and am about to start the next one :-p Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. h was a V. They use condoms (don't remember if always). No rape. Yes to abuse.

    Not bad

After I finished reading it, I was really excited, wanted to give this one a 4-star rating.
Now, after 2 days, I noticed I forgot most of the book. Yeah, I have an awful memory, but I kind of realised it's a pretty forgettable read.

It's fun and fast and the characters & plot were pretty good but I guess it just didn't do it for me as much as I first thought. Can't give 4 stars to a book I forgot about in less than a week, it's just not fair for all my other 4-star reads.

Still, it's an enjoyable book, perfect for a lazy day.

  • The Girl Murdered by Her TBR

    3.75

I gotta say I expected a lot. Shooter is my fave on this series because he is so charming and one helluva smooth talker but Amelia did pull it down for me. I just didn’t care about her. The plot was also a so-so, same-same altogether.

I reaaallyy wanted to love this but given the flat heroine character and the repetitive turn out of events? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

  • ~Mindy Lynn~

    Well.....

I wanted to love it but, no. Don't get me wrong, I loved Shooter. He is just too damn charming to not love. But I found it hard to love Amelia. She was an OK character, but I didn't get a connection or any feels from her. I just couldn't bring myself to like her. So unfortunately that means I didn't really feel the connection between her and Shooter. I didn't like them together either. I guess I pictured him with someone who would challenge him. Put him in his place a few times. Make him work for it. Anyone else besides the conservative and boring Amelia.
I find myself struggling more often with this authors books. Which sucks cause I liked Reign so much. But this is the third book of hers that just didn't work for me.
I loved Summer. I liked Alex. They were really solid heroines. They were badasses in their own way. But Lo and Amelia... They just didn't work for me which kills me because after reading Reign and Monster I thought I found an author who wrote her heroines strong and independent and took care of their shit and put up a good fight. They didn't depend on their Alpha men to take care of it all for them. Not saying both these ladies did that, but they just didn't have the same spirit of the other two gals.
The story was like a rinse and repeat of Monster and Cash. You get a bit intrigued than a bunch of sex or sexual tension than some more action to end it all. Just finding it hard in wanting to continue with this same trope.
Another aspect of this book which was annoying for me was the constant reminder of what a whore Shooter is/was. I get it. I knew it from how many times it was mentioned in the other books he was a part of. I get they are all whores and are fan's of the catch and release game. But I don't need to be reminded constantly of it. It's annoying.

So not what I thought it was going to be but still an OK read.

When does a deadly killer become a soft and caring man in need of the love of one woman? The answer lies in Jessica Gadziala’s Killer, another gritty and spellbinding look at anti-heroes and what truly lies within their hearts.

They call him Shooter now; he left home after one too many rounds of abuse from his father. Years later, he returns after his father’s death, not sure how to feel about the man and the town he spent years hating. What he wasn’t prepared for was his father’s next door neighbor, a beautiful and innocent young woman who found within his father all that Johnnie never saw, all his father kept hidden behind a bottle of whiskey.

Well-educated in the school of hard-knocks, Amelia has had her share of ups and down, but always she kept her pride and her integrity intact. She’s been used, burned by love and the snarky man who caused her late friend so much pain is the last person she should even care about, but under that hard shell of lethal power and womanizing charm was a boy craving attention, a pat on the back and someone he could truly care about that needed him for more than his “talents.” Yes, there is more to Johnnie than meets the eye, and when Amelia finds herself caught up in some serious trouble, she swallowed her pride and went to the one person who would know what to do.
Sometimes love catches you off guard and sometimes that love makes you want to be a better person, has Johnnie found his reason? Can Amelia find comfort in the arms of a killer?

Jessica Gadziala has not lost her ability to write dark and gritty characters and place them in situations far from the norm for their lives. She knows how to turn a villain into a hero of sorts without judgment or apology. Toning down her writing from previous books, we are given a softer side of her writing while still recognizing her signature style. Definitely a love story, definitely a knight in tarnished armor coming to the aid of his princess, even bad boys need love and good girls need to be loved in return. Life damages and warps people, love can make them whole again.

I received an ARC edition from the author, Jessica Gadziala, in exchange for my honest review.

    Killer
    by Jessica Gadziala

I am slowly working my way through all of Jessica's books, & enjoying every Min of it... I've loved Shooter from the first time I got a bit of him when I read Monster ...
Shooter dad was a alcoholic would beat him all the time an no one would do anything ... at 15 he had had enough so he ran away this is how he met Breaker who took him in an gave him a chance this is where he learned to work with guns & he ended up being the best sniper there is..
When Shooter grandma claim to need his help with his father's funeral, Shooter couldn't seem to say no to his grandma( God only know why the lady was bi$%h)
This woman has trust issues since her father left her & mother at the age 6... Amelia is a loner , & she hadnt live long in the small town where Shooter grow up..... Amelia didnt know Shooter father's other side..but somehow she found the softer side to Shooter dad & became close friends with him... She couldnt understand why Shooter hated his father so much.
Amelia got herself in a situation & the only person she knew that could help her was Shooter
in true classic form Jessica Gadziala give you jam-packed book full of drama drugs action & suspense of course a lil blood here and there
I love how Jessica Gadziala, always joins the characters from her previous stories, so you can see some of the old gang characters

Sadly this one didn't work for me and I'm gutted. I really fell hard for Shooter in
Monster and was so excited for his story. This should have been epic, a child that was brutally abused and neglected that ended up on the streets at 15, turned into a killer for hire? I was all over this like a rash!

Yeah - the idea is fantastic, but this didn't carry through to the book. Instead I was slapped upside the head with Amelia who pissed me off from the get go with her judgemental, holier than thou attitude. For someone who counsels recovering addicts she certainly had no compassion or brains to reserve judgement.

Shooter's character didn't amount to much either, I found him to be rather wishy washy and a tad bit insipid and I struggled to connect with either character.

And a huge peeve - why oh why oh why do we have to have a 26 year old virgin thrown in the story? I'm so over this whole ridiculous virgin trope now.

We met Shooter in the other books & we know he had a terrible childhood thanks to his father.

Even though he does NOT want to, his grandmother shames him into returning to Alabama and making all of the arrangements for his father’s funeral. While staying in his father’s old apartment he meets Amelia who lives next door and even though she was clearly a very good friend of his horrible father he has an immediate attraction with her.

Amelia has trust issues because of her childhood and keeps to herself. She does not like to get close to anyone which is what made her relationship with Shooter’s father so unusual and possibly why it was so special.

Shooter was great in the other books and all of his Southern charm is probably what made him even more lovable in this book. His character has some awesome depth and even though he had an awful upbringing it really didn’t keep him from being a super nice guy.

This was a great storyline. It has a bit of everything, humor, angst, action and suspense.

Shooter was an amazing character. I loved being back in the Savages series and seeing Breaker, Alex, Lo and the rest of the Navesink/Henchmen crew.

Overall, this was a solid story but while I loved Shooter, I didn't always love how his relationship with Amelia felt almost convenient at times. I couldn't really feel the emotions between them. Don't get me wrong, this was a good story, but it just felt like there was something missing. 3 stars! ~Ratula

It’s years since I read Monster but I remember how much I loved Shooter. So I settled in and finally started his story.

It’s safe to say it didn’t live up to expectations. The reason in one word was Amelia.

Now I’m not the only person who felt this way. In fact Bev summed it up way better than I could so I pinched this from her review.

I considered stoping here with this spin off section but I’ve been assured Savior is the best one. So with fingers firmly crossed I’m moving on to that one now.

    My own trigger warnings include:
•description of OW at our first introduction of the H
•H flirts with OW (which grosses me out)
•H is a manwhore…and keeps reminding me of it!

    Average score: 3/5

Worst Lines: "I've always had a way with a pussy."

    Personal Review:
There was something about Shooter which I just didn’t believe in. He appeared to be sincere with the h but then would say something about the horde of women he’s been with which would make me doubt him.

    Random Ramblings:
•Again, many thanks to the author for giving trigger warnings for her books
•Had to look up ‘creepers’ online and they didn’t look good…I couldn’t take them seriously

    Overall Feeling:

Shooter has been on my radar since he was first introduce in Monster. He is such an amazing character and to FINALLY get around his book...its a delight! He made me swoon and giggle and blush... and all because his silver tongue!

Amelia was a good character, but not the best IMO. She was sweet and was a lot different than I was expecting for someone like Shooter, but they worked!

The sexual tension was sizzling and right on point (as it is always with this author).
And the bonus is that I got to read more of breaker, Cash and all the rest of the troupe!!

Shooter was soooo much more sweeter than I expected but what a pleasant surprise! Another great read in this series!
