Donaldson transports you to that time and creates characters that will snag you and drawn you into the world of football, flirting, sexing and living life out loud! Crimson Catch is the first book in Ms. Donaldson's Game Time series and it's a must read for anyone even though it is YA.
When you think of high school, where did you fit or did you fit in anywhere? Joelle Prescott fits perfectly in the background where she lives her secret life. She is really a rebel at heart, a person that is above average intellectually superior, creative, musically inclined and above all loyal. So when asked to tutor the football's star QB by her brother the captain of the team she agrees. This is the beginning of Joelle and Collin's journey towards becoming finding out where they belong and with who!
Sometimes it is not enough to be the golden boy, the All-American stud muffin. Surely there is more than blowjobs from girls that want a piece of his status as the star QB! Collin Atwood knows that something is missing, but what? When his coach tells him to either get his grades up or warm the bench, Collin is willing to hunker down and agrees to work with a tutor. High school is difficult without dodging mean girls and bad boys that think they are all that without the drama of daily life as a teen. So as I read this amazing book Ms. Donaldson, I realized she had the pulse of that world down pat! Her book is packed with drama, sizzling sexual tension, mystery, friendship and loyalty! I really enjoyed adding this book to my library, because it is a winner.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author did a great job portraying the characters, their emotions, and the experiences they went through.
One thing I really liked about this book is that most people can relate to the book in at least one way. Being in high school you have the jocks, cheerleaders, Queen B's, geeks, etc. Feeling like you are the outcast in your family or that you have the weight of the whole town on your shoulders.
I really liked the main character Joelle. She is smart, she knows what she wants, she does what she enoys even if that isn't what others things she should be doing. She also knows that if she wants her biggest secret to stay a secret, that she can't let anybody know. Living in a small souther town where gossip flows more freely than water, if one person spills the beans, everyone will know.
Collin is the golden boy of the town. He is the local football star, and his team, family and the whole town has the state champion ship riding on him. That's a lot of pressure for anybody, let alone a teenager.
I look forward to reading more by this author, and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book.

First book I have read of author S.M. Donaldson. This is a mature YA and I have to say that I LOVED IT!!! I can't wait for more in this series. S.M. Donaldson has brought me back to my old highschool days with going to football games and seeing the jocks and the cheerleaders hook up. I can totally understand Joelle character being in the band and not fitting in at home with a Captain of the football team for a brother and a sister who is younger but a cheerleader. Dad was the hometown football player until he got injured so yeah Joelle didn't fully fit in at home. She kept to herself which you see so much of in highschool. Living in a small town you grow up with everyone so you know them and have for all their lives or most of their lives anyways. To see Collin the Quarterback of the football struggling with grades and needed someone to tutor him he has Joelle. He sees her for who she is and can't stand to see when others put her down. What a wonderful read. It was fast past and enjoyed the trip down memory lane. -

This book was a great read. So many times I had to stop and tell myself to take notes so I could add it to my review. But I didn't because I didn't want to stop reading. This book is about high schoolers but my kids are out of school( so you can see I have been for a while) and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Even though Joelle doesn't see it herself she is a strong young woman that I wished I would have been back in highschool. I loved how SM Donaldson made the characters realistic and likeable. The story isn't the typical hot guy and nerd girl. The author gives you enough about the characters that you can visualize them and relate to them. and even the supporting characters are great. Makes me hope maybe another book so we can keep the story going after all these two are only sophomores. I highly recommend this book it is a fast read because story flows so well. absolutely loved it!!! abfablynnette -
The story of Colin and Jo are so sweet, is a fresh story, the characters are real, and they attract you to keep reading their story page after page. Love the way Collin is.He's loyal and supportive of Jo when he is finally able to know her. Joelle is pursuing her dream, in music and with her write, that was a nice touch!
I hated her family at first, and I was glad that they finally come around , at list her brother and mom.
Collin family are so sweet, and supportive, that was a nice change when they are rich. They never were awful to Joelle, that is a good think.
This story by S.M. Donaldson its amazing. Love it and want to read right know the next in the serie.

This is a great book to a start of a new series. I enjoyed all the characters and it does have that small town feel. I think anybody that has grown up in BFE knows how parties go down in the country. Bonfires and kegs. And how everybody knows everybody's business. This is about Collin a QB that needs to bring his grades up or else he will be benched and they wont be able to go to the championship game. The captain of the team James enlists his sister Joelle as Collins tutor. He feels he's got nothing to worry about because Joelle's a nerd. She plays in the band and likes to read books. Boy was he wrong. Lol. I feel like if I keep going on I will give to many spoilers away. So I will leave it at this. It was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I actually read this as an ARC and loved it. I'm an older reader but really enjoyed the plot. I guess there's always the same problems in schools now as to when I was there, but I loved the way it was portrayed. There's always that one girl you want to snatch her hair out or that one jock that's always a bully. Loved to see them get what was coming to them!!! A must read from one of my favorite authors:)

Let me start by saying this is a YA book so it’s pretty mild. With that being said Crimson Catch by SM Donaldson was still good at holding my attention. There are some sexual scenes and cusswords. Have you ever wondered what a small town life is like for high school students? Crimson Catch does a pretty good job of portraying it. In many small towns sports mean everything, they are the pride and joy of many parents and students along with ways of bringing in income and new students. Let's start with Collin Atwood. He’s the sophomore who will become the captain next year. He is also failing 2 classes and in order to keep playing he is in serious need of a tutor, James the captain of the team and only senior just so happens to know someone who can tutor Collin without being a distraction...or so he thinks. Then there's Joelle, she's the super smart band geek and basically feels invisible in her family...and James (her brother) needs a favor...James and Joelle have a hectic home life with an alcoholic father, a younger sister who is on the fast track to being a part of the Queen B's, a mother who only see's James and the whole family relies on Joelle for everything. After their dad faces a heart attack and some nasty things are said and done can the family move forward and forgive or will it be too late for second chances because of the amount of emotional and physical damage done over the years.
Can Joelle help Collin while still maintaining her hectic schedule and still manage to keep the secret that only her best friend knows...one that can change everything for her including how everyone looks at her and thinks of her...including her family? Can Collin and Joelle keep a strictly platonic relationship even though Collin is starting to see her as more. With everything going on in her life between the secrets, the tutoring, the family store and her band practice can Joelle keep her cool or will it all come crashing down over a jealous school girl crush from the queen B who happens to have a crush on Collin. -

Another home run for S.M. Donaldson.
This mature young adult book is refreshing, interesting and will appeal to a wide variety of readers. Rated for 15 yo +, and I would totally agree. There is some cursing, adult situations, and lots of high school drama, however there is nothing in this book that I was not already exposed to by age 13 in the public school systems. Although it is wrote to appeal to the younger mature readers, I personally loved it and feel there is no age limit on who would enjoy this book.
First in the series, you are introduced to a lot of wonderful characters. I have my fingers crossed that many of them will have their own books in the future so that I can get to better know them. All the personalities are wonderful. As I was reading I could envision my friends and classmates in high school as those characters. With this group of personalities.. the possibilities are ENDLESS.
In Crimson Catch you meet two very different people who have more in common then they realize. He is star football player who have the weight of the world on his shoulders. She is shy band geek who is the black sheep of her family. They both have personal demons and secrets. You are left the entire time guessing if these situations and secrets will draw them together or apart. Just when you think that everything is going as planned, Ms. Donaldson throws in some game changers into the mix. I could not read fast enough to see what was in store next for this interesting bunch.
If you grew up or are growing up attending a small town high school, then this book is meant for you! Suspense, drama, football and small town pride will warm your soul, break your heart and leave you begging for more! I can't wait to see how this series will develop! -
This book was such an enjoyable read. The book is set in a small town where everybody knows everybody and everybody likes to talk. I enjoyed all the characters and it's a great introduction book if it's going to be a series. Even if it's spin off stories from the other characters in this book. I'd love to see what else happens with them all. It doesn't leave you with a cliff hanger heartache but it does leave you wanting more.
The main focus of the book is Collin the golden boy QB who needs to improve his grades or he'll be benched and won't be able to take the team to the championship game. The captain of the team enlists his little sister Joelle as Collins tutor. She can't say no to him. Her whole family pushes her off to the side because she isn't in to sports and she doesn't cheer. Her father was suppose to leave the town for his football career but he got injured. Her older brother is the captain of the football team and her little sister is a cheerleader. Mean while she's in the band and likes to read. She also has a big secret that she doesn't want anybody to know. I feel like I'm rambling and giving away to much. My brain is screaming SPOILER ALERT!!! Lol so I will leave it down to this. There are some sexual situations that happen in the book and some explicit language. It is high school so there is some cattiness and stuff, parties( if you live in a small town you know how those go down) keggers and bone fires in fields and barns. All in all this was an enjoyable and refreshing read. -

Donaldson does a great job weaving together a story about High School, teenagers under large expectations, and small town mentality especially with football. I was captivated cover to cover, and cannot wait to read the next book! I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! -
I thought this was a really sweet book. Some of the content i was not expecting but it worked in the book. Also i was a little surprised at how quickly the relationship between Joelle and Collin started.
But i really enjoy how he really did think of her and how it was unfair how people treated her including her own family. I loved when he stood up for her against her family and other people. She really needed him even though she did not realize it.
They were a match made in heaven.
There was defiantly parts were he messed up but they were not that major. -
I'm a big fan of YA, College and Sports - romances that is.
While I loved both, the hero and the heroine (she's dope) and also the concept of the story, I felt like if the author would give us a just a bit more of their emotions it would be dripping with awesomeness. This way it was just quite ok. But I was captivated by it and I read it in two sittings. -

This is the first book I've read of SM Donaldson and I loved it, thanks to Terri Anne Browning who had a sample at the end of her Rocking Kin book. Such a great book loved it can't wait for more from this series may have look at some her other work while I'm waiting

I was torn between giving it a 2.0 no lo sé Rick... I mean I keep reading bc it was somehow interesting but into the 50% I was think I might not finish it is just they were party that we’re so cringy and o feel like the relationship between the H and the heroine was so bland I didn’t feel any slow burn any años it just one tutor session and bam! He likes her and viceversa so it didn’t for me..

Overall....eh. As a former athlete and musician I had high hopes for this book, but it just didn't make the mark.
While I do believe there is some creative license when writing about sports, music, etc. I do think the characters' voices should be accurate with the terminology. The football references were good enough, but the music ones fell short and were inaccurate. Never in my life have I wailed on a drum nor is a rack another name for quints/tenor drums. Pretty disappointed especially after the author had a big speech in the front about being in a marching band.
The main character's inner dialogue matches up well with their age and personality. The author nailed it.
This was a book that kept me just interested enough to finish, but it isn't one that I will read the other books. I liked at the blurb for the next book to see if if could change my mind and I don't think I can get through a basketball book if the ins and outs aren't accurate. -

Better than average character development. Nothing too intense nor explicit, but the story moved along and held my interest throughout.
