A great book that makes you think about to put Bible in practice everyday as valid now as 19th century when book was written

I enjoyed this little book by D. L. Moody. He was a man of his times and there was great hope that the world was getting better and better. Two things in particular stood out to me. He talks about how when we meet someone in need of the Savior, it does no good to lecture them about their sin and the mistakes they've made. Instead we should love them and show them grace and mercy and that will have a greater effect on people than preaching about their sin. The other thing that was interesting as we live through Covid 19 is a story he told about a summer in Chicago when many children were dying, I assume of polio. He buried so many children that he just did it without feeling anything. One day he took his little girl with him to visit a home where a child had just died. He made arrangements for the funeral and then left. On the way home his little girl asked if he would be sad if she died. He assured her that he would be heartbroken. She then asked why he wasn't sad that somebody else's little girl had died. From then on in ministry he remembered to allow himself to feel what others feel. That was really a reminder to me.

Live out that which you believe in we present Christ

Dear friends, let us think of that. Where one man reads the Bible, a hundred read you and me. That is what Paul meant when he said we were to be living epistles of Christ, known and read of all men. I would not give much for all that can be done by sermons, if we do not preach Christ by our lives. If we do not commend the Gospel to people by our holy walk and conversation, we shall not win them to Christ. Some little act of kindness will perhaps do more to influence them than any number of long sermons.

We need to be at work for the Lord.

Dwight Moody' s book, To The Work is a great reminder to followers of Jesus Christ that we need to be doing the work around us and not just waiting for a "big work" to do. In the small and everyday service for Jesus Christ, when dine from our hearts, will last for all eternity. Excellent teaching.

Closer to 3.5 stars - well thought out book with solid and good information. However, it is a difficult read due to the language, but worth the effort...

Simple & clear admonishment & encouragement to work for God

I really enjoyed this collection of sermons by Moody. They were in his clear and simple style. They are filled with his famous stories and illustrations. I especially enjoyed the sermons on Enthusiasm and the Little Things.

If you are a Christian and are not doing something for the Kingdom of God because you don't think you need to or don't think you can, this book will help you.
