At the tender age of ten, Amelia is orphaned when her parents are murdered because of a crime they were accused of committing during their rumsrpinga. When she returns to her childhood home, strange and frightening events warn that she will soon become a victim of the same fate if she is unsuccessful in solving the crime even the authorities couldn't solve. The secret she uncovers beneath the decaying floorboards of her dilapidated home makes her wish she'd never returned... and her parents are too dead to give her an explanation.
This book, like all other books by Samantha Bayarr, is a clean read.
A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
While this novel is set against the backdrop of an Amish community, the characters and the names of the community are fictional. There is no intended resemblance between the characters in this book or the setting, and any real members of any Amish or Mennonite community. As with any work of fiction, I’ve taken license in some areas of research as a means of creating the necessary circumstances for my characters and setting. It is completely impossible to be accurate in details and descriptions, since every community differs, and such a setting would destroy the fictional quality of entertainment this book serves to present. Any inaccuracies in the Amish and Mennonite lifestyles portrayed in this book are completely due to fictional license. Please keep in mind that this book is meant for fictional, entertainment purposes only, and is not written as a text book on the Amish.

    A real page turner

One I started reading this book there was no way I could put it down until I finished it! The first chapter pulled me in setting up a story about a ten year old Amish girl who finds her world changed forever, what happens is unimaginable. While the beginning grabbed me it was the suspense filled twists that kept me reading.

    Great story!!

I have read every book by this author and I have to say this one is by far the best.
I loved all the other books as well.
This book combines 2 of my favorites: Amish and mystery.
I do hope that Samantha will continue to write more books like this one in the future.

    Wonderful

This was excellent, I don't usually read mystery suspense novels but I am glad I did. It kept me glued till the end.

The story started out fine, and could have been a good book. The writing might have been appreciated by a younger person, but the story was not for youth. Too many overdone crying scenes by one character, running off. Crazy characters who repent of murder attempts moments after it happens or for a robbery from many years before. Someone comes back from the dead, or at least assumed dead. It was too much for as short as it was.
The cover drew me in. It's a series, so I will continue to read the books since I bought them. Sigh.

This wasn't too bad for a short read on kindle unlimited. It was an interesting premise that could have been an excellent novel if the story were a bit more fleshed out. There was one plot point at the end which doesn't make sense to me and was never explained. Oh well. It's short and sweet so I can't complain too much.

First of 3 books in this series. Quick very intriguing book. Amelia is returning to her home in an Amish town after spending 8 years in an orphanage. Her parents are dead. Shot by a stranger in black who she shot in self defense. After what happened to her parents, she didn't trust anyone. But her childhood friend is there to help. There are many twists and turns in this exciting book.

  • Marie McCaulley

Was an uncomfortable read. Not quite predictable but I knew the ending too soon.

  • Joann

    Great book

Although too short, I look forward to the next book. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding every twist and turn ! You will be on the edge of your seat!

  • Audrey

A fast paced mystery. Amelia was in an orphanage for eight years after her parents were killed. When she returns home she is face with frightening experiences that may end up killing her too.

  • Ellen Rice

    Enjoyed the mystery

This is my first read from this author in a newer genre. This story begins when a 10 year old witnesses someone come in a murder her parents. Then man sees her and chases her into a barn where there is gun and she accidentally shoots him and kills him. The next eight years she is in an orphanage. When she is released she goes back to her community. What lies waiting for her there? Will she be able to start over?
This book is good. There is a lot of twist and turns and surprises. You start feeling sorry for Amelia for all she has been through. What I liked about the book is when she start to have feelings for childhood friend. This is a short read but a story about love forgiveness and faith

I ordered this book and read it very quickly. It's filled with so many suspense I ordered the whole series as soon as I finished it.

This was my first go at a Christian Suspense book. I was pleasantly surprised. Amelia witnesses the brutal murder of her parents at 8 years old, and was able to escape to a neighboring farm where she arms herself with a gun. When the intruder follows her, she is able to stop him. She suffers the consequences of being placed in a state facility and then being shunned by her community. When she returns home to the house that was left to her, its in shambles.

This is a truly engaging story, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

What would you do if you were an innocent 10 year old Amish girl and you witnessed a horrible crime? Would anyone believe you? Amelia finds out in this mystery that has all the elements of a great story that keeps you guessing. After 8 years, Amelia returns to her home where a chill runs down her spine as the ghosts from the past haunt her. Will anyone welcome her home? Can she overcome the pain and heartache she felt all those years ago.

The characters are well developed and I loved how Amelia was a determined young lady who would stop at nothing to find out the truth from that night which changed her life. The author does an amazing job of bringing twists and turns into the story just as the reader gets comfortable. I was very much pleased with the ending and I will say it will be a shock for readers. The question is, can you really come home again? Be sure to absorb every word as the story draws to a unbelievable ending. I can't wait to read the next book from this gifted author.

I was given a digital copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Given To Me For Honest Review

This book is fantastic. Something happens in childhood and "The Amish Girl" is sent to a mental hospital for many years. Once she becomes 18 she is then let out to go back to the home where everything happened. She is afraid of the past. Will she be safe? Will she be able to life in the house where it all happened? Will she finally find out the truth about her parents? I gave this book 5 stars but wish I could have given it many more. I highly recommend this to everyone. Once you begin to read it you won't put it down until you finish it. Samantha Bayarr did a fantastic job with this book and I now wait for more from her.

    Who dun it?

Amelia, tormented from a childhood tragedy, tries to return back to her childhood home to face her fears that have haunted her in the orphanage she was placed in when she thought her parents were murdered. After she returns back to her childhood home as a grown adult, she is threatened and the terror begins. Caleb, her childhood love continues to try to protect her but can he protect her. Can Caleb sort out all the threats against her. Good read even though it's short. The story keeps your attention.
