Theseus tells Hermia she must marry Demetrius, even though she really loves Lysander. At nightfall, the two young lovers run off to the forest to be married in secret. However, Demetrius discovers their deception and charges into the forest, searching for his bride-to-be. Little do any of them know, a band of magical fairies lives in this forest, and they have other plans for these lovestruck humans.

A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare Graphics) Reviews

“And yet, to say the truth, reason and love keep little company together nowadays.” means to tell you the truth, logic and love rarely go hand in hand these days. Love hasn’t been making much sense at all

Picked this graphic novel up on a whim. A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of my favorite of all of William Shakespeare's works. I thought it would be nice to read it in an illustrated format. I found I am sorry, to say that it was not the best decision I have made this year.

I think everyone might be familiar with the plotline of the story so I will exclude the summary. Instead, I will say that this version did stay true to the premise of the original work. However, there was something that I found lacking...perhaps the lack of humor that I was expecting it to have? I also felt it was a bit rushed in terms of narrative pacing.

Still, I did enjoy reading this adaptation. I imagine this would be an excellent reference for students who are just learning to understand how to read Shakespeare. However, I think I still prefer the novel adaptation better. The illustration was beautifully drawn - it's just not a style that I am used to seeing.

I enjoyed this classic in graphic novel form.

If you know Shakespeare, you know this story.
However, I was very disappointed in it. We have it shelved as a teen graphic novel. However, due to the fact that there is literally none of the 'adult' humor or "situations" remaining, the overly simplistic dialogue and the WAY OVER DONE stereotypes of manga art in this, this feels definitely more geared towards a 9 year old...But the art was a bit much, even to some manga fans, but hey, on the flip side, I'm glad that manga has been putting together 'adaptations' of the classics for those hesitant readers.

    Love love loved it!

The story is fun cute and very humorous. I love the artwork it's very pretty and very detailed. This book would be a great way to start off your kid reading Shakespeare. Or teenagers.

Overall it’s a really good story

I really like this in a comic form, much more than I have liked Shakespeare and written book form. I

This would have been great if the pages were in order-but they weren't, making it really difficult to read.

For a children’s graphic novel this was perfect! However, for 5-7th grade max.
