Lynn Cahoon is a wonderful cozy mystery writer, and I've read several of her charming series. I began the Tourist Trap Mysteries earlier this year, and my most recent one was Murder on Wheels. The series takes place on the California seaside and focuses on Jill, a coffee and book shop owner who inherited some money and took on the role of liaison between the Town Council and the local community business owners. Good friend Sadie supplies all her baked goods, but there's a new pastry chef in town who serves up gluten-free desserts. What's worse... Sadie was dating the woman's husband, only because she was led to believe he was divorced. The man returned to his wife, stole Sadie's recipes, and then somehow, the woman was found dead after her new roadside van / bakery was burgled. Who killed her? I really liked the dead woman, so this was a sad loss to the community... but as the facts about her interest in various hobbies came to light, we learned she was the president of a local group that contained a few rivalries. Lots of potential suspects. Kept my interest. Excited to dive into more.

Another fun visited with Jill Gardener and friends in South Cove. Justin and Amy have taken Jill and Greg geocaching. There they meet Kacey the new owner of the Gluten Free mobile food truck. The recipes are adaptations of Sadie's stolen ones. Later Kacey is found murdered. Sadie becomes a person of interest and Jill feels she must help Sadie clear her name. I had problems writing this review as the method of the murder was not realistic. Gluten Intolerance is not a food allergy but an autoimmune disease. I would recommend this book.

I guess aunt Jackie is Jill's side kick, as Lula's is Stephanie's partner in crime, and Jill's hottie is Greg like Plum's cop boyfriend, Joe Morelli. Now, all we need is a Grandma Mazur, to complete the cast. Similar to Evanovich's Plum Series, you gotta keep reading Cahoon's Tourist Trap Mysteries--compulsively addictive!
As the book opens, Jill Gardner, and boyfriend/detective hunk, Greg King, along with friends, Justin and Amy are on a big scavenger hunt. Justin had talked them into a new activity for their monthly double date. Geocaching. They go out into the woods, hide an object, and then post the GPS coordinates with a list of clues for others to find the item.
Then apparently you post on the website that you “found” the spot (without spoilers), take something from the cache, and leave something for the next explorer. Jill Gardner, bookstore and coffee shop owner is now a mad geocacher, as part of The Coastal Geocache Club. Some even homeschooler families use the hobby to teach geography principles.
Austin’s (Austin’s Bike Shop) latest love is the computer guru Kacey, and they are opening a dessert truck (all gluten-free) due to her food allergies.
Jill likes to get the inside scoop from Greg, and now it appears someone has vandalized the food truck and trashed the insides and has stolen all her recipes. The only woman who would want Kacey’s recipes was the woman from whom they were stolen originally. It couldn’t be Sadie? Now worse, Kacey has been murdered.
Guess who is on the case? Unofficially, of course.
From adorable golden retriever, Emma, some chocolate delights, and of course the continued warnings from Greg to Jill to stay out of the investigation (she has already started her own murder investigation notebook, before he gets the words out of his mouth), and the rest of the South Cove gang, with a little breaking and entering and some sleuthing…Never a dull moment. Always trouble brewing. Jill needs to hang out her PI license in addition to the coffee/book store.
A proper "Sleuth" needs to be intelligent, witty, and always a few steps ahead others. Jill is all of the above.
The detectives in cozy mysteries, such as Tourist Trap, are left free to eavesdrop, gather clues, and use their intuitive "feel" for the social dynamics of the community to solve the crime. Having read all six books in the series, each can be read as a standalone; however, in order to keep up with the characters and their history-- much more fun to start from the beginning and add to the collection.

South Cove is in the middle of a drought and as the sun continues to beat down tempers are beginning to fray. Jill has somehow offended her best friend Amy, her Aunt Jackie has her telling lies for her, and the newly formed Water Conservation Committee is gunning for her.
Then Kacey, a new arrival in South Cove is found dead on the beach. When Jill's last remaining friend becomes a suspect Jill steps in and begins to investigate determined to find the real killer and clear her friend's name.
Cozy mysteries are one of my go to comfort reads. I just love them, well usually I love the first couple of books in a series before the novelty starts to wear off. As a genre they really are a hard field to hoe. I mean they're generally set in a small quaint town, the sort of place you'd want to retire or raise your kids....except for the murder rate that's higher than Caracas.
So I read the first couple in this series and as I tend to do moved on. When I saw this book at Netgalley I wondered how the series was going and requested it.
And it's great.
Lynn Cahoon seems to be that very rare author who can keep a series like this alive and interesting even after six books. I'm thinking I need to climb back on this horse and read some of the books I've missed.

I’m so pleased to have found another cosy mystery series that I can catch up on lots of previous books. It’s part of the Tourist Trap series. It’s also set in California which is another huge plus. The cover drew me to choose this one. The characters are so interesting and Lynn Cahoon does such a great job of drawing you in. A new author to me- and I’m delighted to have found her. Although this is part of a series I enjoyed joining the party at this late stage!

Another solid book in the Tourist Trap series! Lynn Cahoon is good about mixing the details of the mystery with the protagonist's regular life. I follow this series not only to read about the next mystery, but also to see what's happening in South Cove and with Jill and her family and friends. Although I personally prefer to read a series in order, I feel like these books could be read out of order or as stand-alones. This series is a keeper!

I really love this series, this was the series that got me really going on cozy mysteries when I asked to review the first one on audio, after that I have been a bit hooked on cozies as you can see...lol.
In the previous book Jill and her Aunt Jackie tried to buy a food truck but was out manned by Dustin Austin. He wanted the truck for his wife. Jill was not fond of Dustin because he had an affair her friend Sadie, then went back to his wife.
Kacey was going to use the food truck to sell glutten free desserts which could rival Sadie and her desserts, plus take money from Jill as she sold those desserts. So when Kacey is found dead there is a lot of suspicion surrounding her friend Sadie but Jill knows she couldn't do it nor could her son who is off at college.
Greg wants Jill to stay out of things but she can't help it if she just naturally figures things out and has a curious mind. She does keep telling herself that she is going to stay out of things but she just falls into things. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure out who the killer was.
Jill is one of my favorite cozy mystery sleuths as I love how she just has this knack for figuring things out. She loves making list and I think it helps her put things in order so that she figures things out. Though a lot of times she figures it out a bit to late and gets herself into trouble. I like her relationship with Greg and how it has evolved since the first book.
I love some of the secondary characters like her Aunt Jackie and Sadie, it's these fun characters that really make a cozy fun. :)
If you like cozy mysteries then you really need to try this series and it's one of my favorites. :) -
Jill Gardner owns Coffee, Books, and More. Helping run the shop is her Aunt Jackie, Toby (policeman and barista), and Sasha (barista). Jill makes plenty of time for reading and relaxing; running on the beach with her golden retriever, Emma; and spending time with boyfriend, Detective Greg King. Geocaching is the latest hobby they've explored, along with Jill's best friend, Amy, and her boyfriend, Justin. They meet Kacey Austin, president of the Geocachers, who's also married to Dustin Austin whom we met in previous stories, as he owns and runs the bike rental shop. Kacey is about to open a gluten-free dessert Food Truck....in the very truck Jill wanted to buy in the past. Jill doesn't like the fact that Dustin had an affair with her friend, Sadie, then dumped her to go back to his wife. Horrified when Kacey's body is found on the beach, Greg begins an investigation that Jill reluctantly agrees to stay out of. Er, well, sort of....maybe just a little sleuthing....
Book 6 is nicely paced and full of interesting clues and news about several of the series regular characters. I really enjoy this cast of friends and getting to know them better in each story. While I guessed the killer before the author reveal, the story had me riveted through the end. I'm very curious about what the author, Lynn Cahoon, has waiting in the wings for the main characters in Book 7!!

Another fun South Cove read. I got hooked with the first book in the series and enjoy returning to visit South Cove, California. Jill, a former attorney, is the owner of Coffee, Books and More and enjoys running with her lab, Emma, eating sweets and solving real life mysteries in town. The local police chief, Greg, is Jill's boyfriend. Jill's Aunt Jackie helps run the shop with Toby, who also works as a police officer with Greg. Sasha, a single mom and college student, works at the shop and runs two book clubs. Jill's friend, Amy works at City Hall with the mayor and loves to surf. Amy is usually right with Jill trying to solve the crimes in South Cove but she stays angry at Jill for most of this story. Sadie makes desserts sold at CBM as well other places in town. Josh, an antique shop owner, has a thing for Aunt Jackie, which is not returned. Harrold owns a train shop and starts seeing Jackie much to Josh's unhappiness. The books are fun to read and see what murder mystery or crime that Jill is working on as well as see what is happening with the other shop owners and townspeople. This is one of the series that you feel that you know the characters after reading about them after a few books. The series is easy to read, light and a fun escape.

The Tourist Trap mysteries are one trap I never want to escape from!
Fabulous characters, an idyllic setting, and most of all, fantastic writing all work together in perfect harmony to keep readers returning to every new installment of this great series!
I knew when I read book one in this series, GUIDEBOOK TO MURDER, I was in for a good time. But I had no idea just how wonderful a trip this would be! Now here I am finished book 6, MURDER ON WHEELS, and I am already anticipating the next book.
While I have enjoyed every book in the series, this may be my favorite so far. Okay, tied as my favorite. Skillfully written as always by author Lynn Cahoon, the outstanding plot had me anxiously reading each page to see what would happen next. By the time I reached the reveal, I was on the edge of my seat. My guess was so wrong! LOL
Do yourself a favor and add MURDER ON WHEELS to your reading itinerary! -
I'm a big fan of this series, and always look forward to the newest installment. Once again, Ms. Cahoon has done a fabulous job. All of the residents of South Cove are back again, and right in the middle of yet another murder investigation.
This time around, we learn a bit more about all of the characters and their personal issues. That, for me, makes the characters more relatable. I hope we will get to learn even more as the series continues.
I was a bit disappointed with the murder investigation this time around. The killer's identity was obvious throughout most of the book from the way they were talked about by just about everyone. I hope that won't be a continuing trend, as I much prefer to have to work for that information.

This fun little cozy mystery has so much to like, from a good central mystery to good portrayal of local color. However, it is the sixth book in the series and I felt somewhat out of the loop when it came to some character relationships.

Like I said in my last Tourist Trap mystery review, this is a world that tickles the ivories of my reader's soul. You just can't go wrong with this series.
There were a lot of interesting secondary stories going on in this book. Not everything is hunky-dory between main character, Jill Gardner and her BFF Amy. They have strained their relationship due to a disagreement about a new water conservation regulation. Then Jill ends up in the middle of her Aunt's love life in which the Aunt is juggling two different men. Then Toby, her Barista Babe ends up breaking up with his girlfriend and crashes in his new man pad which used to be Jill's shed out back. Then Amy's boyfriend, Justin has a new found passion for geo caching and sucks the crew into a few hikes. I mean, this book is totally jam-packed with things going on. And the funny thing is, it doesn't feel that way at all. It just feels like a normal day in South Cove.
Oh, of course, there is the little issue of the murder in a food truck Jill wanted to buy back in book five. I like how book five led us to book six so smoothly. In the previous book Dustin Austin, local bike shop owner, had scored the sale of the food truck, dumped Sadie, stole her recipes then went back to his wife. The climax of that situation ends up in book six as the main thrust of the story.
I mean, can you say awesome planning on Cahoon's part? I am so impressed.
Jill Gardner does a better job in this book of hiding her sleuthing by focusing on a case she thinks is unrelated to the murder. But like we all know, Jill can't stay out of trouble for long. I probably should have given this book five stars since I can't find anything I don't like about it.
If you love a good mystery, please check this series out. It is definitely a winner!

Unfortunately for her, she loses a bid for a food truck to Kacey Austin. Kacey is turning the food truck into a gluten-free dessert truck – something Jill just can’t compete with.
Jill’s good friend Sadie has just been dumped by her boyfriend. To her shock, he happens to be Kacey’s husband. Sadie had no clue the man was even married. Now she finds out he’s been using her for her recipes which he gave to Kacey. Even more shocking, Kacey turns up dead and sweet Sadie is the number one suspect. Jill is determined to prove her friend’s innocence.
I love this series more with each book. This is another fun visit to South Cove. I feel like I live there myself. It’s so quaint, well…except for the murders that keep happening there. LOL
I was totally absorbed in the book. The story isn’t very complex, easy to follow and moves along at a steady pace. I wasn’t particularly shocked at who the killer turned out to be but that’s fine. I enjoyed getting to the end.
This mystery is self-contained and you don’t really need to read the whole series. However, I think it’s more enjoyable to start with book number one so you can get to know all the characters as well as I did.
Can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

I really enjoy the Tourist Trap series, from the riveting plots to the beautiful California coast location to the quaint small town to the fun, quirky characters. In this, the sixth book in the series, Murder On Wheels starts out by introducing the reader to the sport of Geocaching. I've known one or two geocachers and I know how rabidly they follow it, so I identified not only with Justin's zeal for it, but also his friends' lack of enthusiasm. The president of the geocaching club, who also plans to open a gluten free dessert food truck, is found murdered on the beach
One thing I enjoy about this series is how well the victim is integrated into the story, even if they're not a big part of the book. Murder On Wheels is no different, Kacey still manages to be so endearing that you genuinely lament when she dies. The rest of the plot, especially the manner that Kacey was killed and the plot thread concerning Kacey's husband, was interesting and not something you'd expect.
I have to say that the plot with Jill and BFF Amy really didn't add much to the story. I thought Amy came off as a shrew (I never really liked her much anyway) and I guess it says something about Jill that she'd put up with that behavior from a friend.
Overall, a great addition to an already great series. -

I just want to start by saying, if you're looking for a book about food trucks, you;'ll be disappointed. Though the cover, back, and title all hint to a food truck themed book, this book has very little to do with a food truck. Despite that, though this book was a good book in what was an excellent series.
I really loved the characters in the books prior to this one, but some of the characters seemed to just drag on. I feel like each book is repetitive of each other, just with a different killer. Though the author tried to stop that in this book by adding some personal issues to almost all of the main characters' lives, it still fell a little bit flat.
The mystery was okay, the killer was obvious from the way they were talked about throughout the book, and hugely obvious hints dropped throughout the book. There were a few editing mistakes, none that really took away from the story, but they were still there.
I know this review seems like I hated this book, but I didn't it was actually a good book it wasn't the best in this series, by far, but I hope they get better. I will stay on for at least one more book because this series started off wonderful and I hope it goes back to the way it started soon. -
This was a quick and easy read, though there were some inconsistencies, and the mystery was pretty easy to solve. I'm on the fence about the fact that the personal lives and interactions of the characters dominated this book, pretty much relegating the mystery to the background; I like having a good balance. And regarding the characters themselves, I'd sure like to see more growth. The MC was unbelievably catty and/or rude a few times in this one, which didn't sit well with me; I hope she will grow in another direction. I question the cover; it depicts what looks to be a retro Volkswagen bus rather than the food truck mentioned throughout the book. I may have missed something? Overall not a bad read but not my favorite, either, ranking somewhere between a 3.5 and 4.

Jill Gardner owns Coffee, Books and More in a small tourist town in California. She is dating the Police Chief, Greg and is quite happy with her life. When Kacey is found dead on the beach, Greg arrests Austin for the crime. Jill is sure he is innocent and begins her own investigation. She asks questions and is able to find leads that escaped Greg. Can they figure out who the murderer is?

I love the characters in this series. They are so real. Jill works hard, eats whatever she wants, runs for exercise, has a wonderful dog named Emma, reads as often as she can, loves movies, picnics on the beach and is smart and a loyal friend. She could be a neighbour or BFF. Greg is kind, understanding, smart and loves Jill very much. The staff at the store work well together and care about each other. The other characters in town range from eccentric to grandmotherly. All in all, a great cast of characters. The plot moved quickly and had great pacing. There was mystery, romance, some female drama and some fun. A great story even though I had figured out the murderer before the end. I will definitely continue reading this series and I recommend it to all cozy mystery lovers. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. -
The last book ended with some pretty hard feelings over a food truck and Murder on Wheels begins not too far after that. Dustin Austin is back with his wife Kasey (the new owner of the truck) and they are trying to rebuild their relationship and make a go of a gluten-free dessert shop on wheels.
Sadie, Dustin’s temporary love interest is suspected in Kacey’s death but there has to be more. Just because Sadie’s recipes were stolen so that Kasey could turn them gluten-free cannot be a reason to kill her. Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More located in the sleepy tourist town of South Cove, is not willing to let her friend be framed for this murder and even though she has promised her detective boyfriend Greg King that she will not get involved, she does do some snooping on the side. Add in the fact that Jill is fighting with her best friend Amy over water and the drought and that the local geocaching group has them out in the forest, you suddenly have another day in the life of Jill.
The Tourist Trap Mysteries are a very superficial cozy series. There is no depth and parts of the story are left dangling. Maybe they will be address is subsequent books, but sometimes the reader is looking for a simple start to finish account. Granted, within this genre, the owner of the small business with the token pet is supposed to be smarter than the police department, begins to wear thin. After six books, this series needs a new spark. Maybe next time, the police could actually be a step ahead of the coffee shop owner or the actual killer would not be so transparent. -
This is one of my favorite series and it does not disappoint. There is plenty of fun and adventure as well as heartache and disappointment.
Jill meets Kacey, the person who bought the food truck she was interested in. Kacey is set to open featureing gluten-free food items, this has Jill thinking about her own menu items. Before Kaceycan ipen, someone breaks into the truck stealing her recipe book. The police question Jill's friend Sadie because she had the most to gain from the theft. When Kacey turns up dead on the beach and the police focusing on Sadie, Jill puts on her sleuthing hat to discover who really committed the crime.
This is a mystery that will quickly absorb you into the town of South Cove and have you sleuthing right along with Jill. You will want to know what happens and keep turning the pages well into the night. The characters are likeable and people you would want to spend your time with.
The mystery is engaging and lets you follow along with the clues so you can try to guess who the murderer is. There are plenty of twists that will keep you guessing, I was certainly surprised.
I look forward to reading more in this series and highly recommend it!

This was my first visit to South Cove CA., but I have to believe it won’t be my last. Jill owns a book store, (it is now my fantasy to own a similar one), and her aunt helps her to run it. In the book Jill and her boyfriend have picked up a new hobby, geocaching, and there she meets Kacey, the president of the geocaching club. She is also the estranged wife of Dustin, who had dated Jill’s friend in a previous book. Kacey is going to open the long contested food truck with a gluten free menu, that is until she is found dead. There is no shortage of suspects, Jill’s friend Sadie and Dustin are the most obvious and seemingly have the most to gain. Jill steps in to clear her friend’s name. If that doesn’t keep her busy enough, Jill is being targeted by the city water conservation committee, she has run afoul of close friend Amy and Jill’s Aunt is asking her lie to the man Jackie has been dating. It is a recipe for fun.
I truly enjoyed reading about Jill, her book shop and her hobbies. I would love the chance to read as much as she does for fun. All of the characters in this town are like old friends and even though I haven’t read previous installments in the series I didn’t feel as if I were missing out on anything. This is a terrific afternoon read I can recommend to all mystery lovers.

Murder on Wheels is the sixth in the "Tourist Trap Mystery" series by Lynn Cahoon. I have read all of the books in the series, so am familiar with the characters.
The protagonist, Jill Gardner, owns a coffee shop/bookstore in a tourist town in California. She runs the shop with her aunt, and her boyfriend is the town police detective. In this installment of the series, a newcomer to the town is planning on starting up a foodtruck serving gluten-free treats, causing Jill to worry that maybe she should be offering something healthier than her usual brownies and cheesecakes. But before the foodtruck plan comes to fruition, the gluten-free baker is killed, possibly by being exposed to, what else, gluten.
I have enjoyed each of these books, they're like visiting with old friends for me now, and I enjoyed this one very much as well.

I love a protagonist who feels like someone I could be best friends with, and that's exactly how I felt about Jill Gardner. She isn't afraid to eat cheesecake, tacos, and fries, she reads everything from romance novels to stories about dragons, and she isn't afraid to (or doesn't know when not to) speak her mind. I'd also love to quit my day job and work at Coffee, Books, and More!
This is another new-to-me series that I enjoyed so much I will be going back to the beginning to get caught up. It was full of believable characters, a touch of romance, and just enough personal drama to keep Jill on her toes. The mystery kept me guessing, and the solution did not disappoint. Murder on Wheels is the sixth Tourist Trap Mystery by author Lynn Cahoon. I have read the earlier books in this series and enjoyed them.
Murder on Wheels is set in the fictional town of South Cove, California (I always think of Cambria when I am reading this series). I love the California coast and therefore already love the setting. I like the characters in this series. I am so familiar with them that it feels like coming home when I read one of these books.
Murder on Wheels is well written and the story moves along at a good pace. The story involves the fairly new hobby of geocaching. Geogaching is something that I have been thinking of trying out so it was interesting to read about. The mystery was good...I had figured out the killer quite early but kept second guessing myself throughout.
Murder on Wheels is a good cozy mystery. Give this series a try if you are into cozies.
