Garfield Vol. 7 Reviews

After years of reading the strips—many times over in some cases—these comics are a fresh take on the cartoon fat cat. These bring back the magic of the early days of Garfield, when there was a story that stretched over numerous strips rather than a simple three-panel tale. I hope I can find more of these books somewhere.

I just can’t get into these books. I just don’t think they’re any good. I love the Garfield comic strips and I love the older Garfield shows and the movies that I’ve seen but these comic books just aren’t very well done. I hate the ones where the Italian good comes to life and attacks Garfield. The characters never look right in those books and it’s just so far fetched and more unbelievable than any other Garfield stories or comics I’ve ever read. I also don’t like that in these books Garfield talks so much to the readers. It often distracts from the story. There’s also a ton of comics where Garfield helps someone. I don’t mind reading about Garfield helping someone but it’s becoming unoriginal in their storylines. These stories are also just not funny. Garfield is meant to be funny and I never find myself laughing or even smiling when I read these books. More often I find myself hoping I’m reading the last story because I just want it to be over. I do not recommend these books. They are not nearly as good as other Garfield books.

I hadn't read a Garfield book in awhile so, when this popped up in my library, I borrowed it. It was a nice read and introduced a character (Stella) I hadn't seen before bit overall hasn't changed much since I read the books in the 90s which was okay.

My 8-year son and I just read this together and he LOVED it. The stories were funny, unpredictable, and engaging. On to Volume 8! I recommend this book on Kindle, where there is a cool panel-by-panel Zoom feature, which made it easier for him to track while I read (he has autism, so reading is a challenge). Great, fun, colorful!
