This was the second finance book I picked up (the first was Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey) and let me just tell you - Ramit Sethi is freakin' hilarious. He makes learning about finances extremely simple and entertaining and I found myself laughing throughout the entire book. Sethi loves talking about how finances are sexy and I agree - it's damn sexy when you are in control of your finances.
Not gonna lie, I was still somewhat confused about some parts when I reached the end of the book (which is normal, as I literally knew NOTHING about finances as I started reading this book), but it definitely opened my eyes towards understanding how easy finances are once you educate yourself enough. He definitely made finances look less threatening and overwhelming and his simplified dialogue encouraged me to look into my finances more.
If you find yourself extremely confused, dumbfounded, or frustrated when you hear the word "finance", fear not - this book will definitely help you out (even if you were a finance noob like me!). I'm definitely not a professional stock trader or finance guru, but I will confidently say that I am MUCH more comfortable talking about and handling my finances than I was before this book.
And don't EVER be embarrassed if you feel that you're too old to deal with your finances because you AREN'T. The key lesson about finances is to learn how it works while you're young; if you don't consider yourself young, starting now rather than later will be your best bet.
I'm being honest - you can start any day. And that day, comes now. -
The author gives a systematic route to control spending, saving money, getting out of debt, and then invest the money. He explains the the various options like stocks, bonds, index funds, mutual funds, and lifecycle funds. Also, he explains about diversification of funds. I found the rule of 72 to be particularly useful. How much time to double the money ..divide 72 by return rate, it will give no of years required to double the money. However, I am not from USA, hence, the things like retirement funds (401k and roth IRA)and , lifecycle funds are not applicable. Though the overall principals are the same, and there are parallels like PPF in my country. Overall this book was useful.
