My Life: An Illustrated Biography: An Illustrated Autobiography Reviews

Simple yet powered to propel our morale beyond our skies...just like his rockets. It's been written for children (and teachers). His vision brought him to the peak, and his simplicity has kept him alive in our hearts... It's a good book, nothing new honestly, but the very fact that it is from the Kalam of Kalam makes it an emotional read for all his sincere lovers... me included. :)

You sir, are one in a million. Literally !!

    It's a long journey

When I picked this book I know that this is gona be a interesting and motivational book but to be honest this is more than that. I get so connected with this book that I felt each and every word. I am having tears in my eyes not because of something sad written but due to euphoria that I feel through reading incredible story of our first indigenous rocked mission which get failed and get successful in their second attempt. The way Satish Dhawan lead their team was remarkable. Most of the part of the book is built on the importance of teacher and their teachings. A great teacher will always find different and practical ways to teach their students and will console them and correct their mistakes and relish their success with great joy

  • Aravind

This little book, in ten short chapters, tells the inspiring story of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in his own, simple-yet-powerful, words. Spanning almost eight decades, this is the story of a little boy from a remote village who went on to lead the nation on its path to becoming a superpower that every child, and adult, should read, and get inspired by. This is the story that makes one believe in the power of dreams, and that of the hard work that will make them come true.

Apparently meant for children, this book is as simple as the man - the greatest scientist, teacher, and human being ever to grace our nation with his presence - himself. But, it packs enough wisdom even for any adult who picks it up, like I did.

Charmingly illustrated and unpretentiously narrated, this book is everything its author was - light, positive and eminently uplifting!

  • The Avaricious Reader

There are some books that tells you to think; think about your aim, life and yourself. For me that book is 'My Life' by A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

The book tells you Kalam's story from being a brilliant student, working at ISRO & DRDO, being a teacher to becoming the President Of India. The thing about this book is that it not only tells his story but tells us to create our own.

    In Abdul Kalam's words :
"The story of my life is intertwined with the story of this country."

Here are some lines from the book that will never fail in inspiring me :

■"Our personalities are formed - something that no one can take away from us however old we get".

■"A person is clothed in his/her success."

■"Prizes & awards are good to receive, but they cannot measure one's success as a human being."

■"If something's at stake, the human mind gets ignited & working capacity gets enhanced manifold."

My Life: An Illustrated Autobiography” Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam - illustrated by Prabjot Majithia- This book is one amongst the many biographies of his is mainly written for children. The story of his life is meant to inspire children and to impress upon teachers the need to ignite in their pupils, the fire of curiosity and the lust for knowledge. The story covers his childhood, college life, professional life and ultimately his life as the President of India. The illustrations are pretty basic but they do a good job of supplementing the text. Keeping in mind that the target audience is children, the language too is kept simple. The writing style focuses on inspiring the young minds to seek more knowledge and take charge of their own lives; no matter what their beginnings or background are and through the cleverly planned text, that purpose has definitely been achieved. I liked the way Mr Kalam has talked about his own shortcomings at all important junctures of his life. Despite all his achievements, he has nowhere boasted of his greatness or his success. He remains a humble man and has mostly attributed his success to all his teachers. From his teachers at the primary school to those at his high school, to those at his college and finally, those who have helped and taught him in his professional life, Mr Kalam has attributed all of his success to these people and all of his failures to himself. Another plus point of this book is that in a few pages only, it manages to cover his entire life story. The way he talks about his home and his mother is so adorable. Even when he has himself become an old man he still remembers his mom and her food; that is the power of love and to hear such a great man talk about such pure love is truly beautiful. This book, unlike a few others from his kitty, is quite interesting and once I sat down to read it, I did not feel like leaving it till I was done. There were two moments in the book when the story was truly motivating. Once when Dr Kalam was inspired by his school teacher about flight; this was when the teacher took the class outside to a beach and told them about birds and flight. That was a decisive moment in his life when he developed a curiosity for things that fly and decided that his career will have something to do with flight. It is also this moment which urges the teachers to adopt a more practical approach to their teaching. Another incident was when Dr. Kalam along with his team and after years and years of hard work and a few failures was able to launch India’s first indigenous SLV. That success story was truly motivating. All in all, this book is a good read and I must, therefore, recommend it to all young readers. I hope that Dr. Kalam books will continue to inspire millions of Indians through his words.

This is by far the BEST book that I had read this year. It is a bliss to read the book!

While reading I felt as if I am a 10-year-old kid sitting in front of Shri Abdul Kalam Ji and hearing his life story directly from him 😇. I could literally hear his voice in my mind as I was reading the lines in the book. I still remember the terrible day, when I got to know that Shri Abdul Kalam Ji passed away while addressing the IIM students. It was a great loss to the nation. I had to take pause many times while reading the book, as I literally had tears in my eyes reading his life story. He is the most loved, respected, and admired President that the country ever had.

Though Shri Abdul Kalam Ji has written many inspiring books in his life, but this was my first experience and I truly loved it. I feel his books should be recommended to all the school students and should be made part of the curriculum. A lot to learn from his life. It is motivating to read how a little boy from a small island in Tamil Nadu travels far - first to acquire knowledge and then to render service to his motherland and eventually becomes the President of the nation. Post-reading his journey from Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhawan definitely made me believe that anything is possible, provided one set a high aim in his/her life, believe in it and work hard to make it happen :)

Truly Inpirational. I downloaded this to introduce it to my kids, and was riveted once i started reading.

This is one apolitical, immensely educated leader our country has seen. He showed us in his thoughts and actions that learning can lead us as far as we dare go... That wings of dreams and working toward it can make us soar.. High.. As a person, as a nation.
Truly inspirational persona.. And I'm proud to belong to the country envisioned by such a great thinker.

The insights of Mr. Kalam are so inspiring and empowering. Reading about the journey of his life gives us hope for building a better future for ourselves, no matter what your beginnings are. After completing each chapter, every page, I felt my heart was full. I was yearning for someone just as Mr. Kalam to be present in my life. Someone to look up to and take the guidance from (I think I can do still do that). His enthusiasm and quest for knowledge and drive for the development of our nation is very admirable. He is a humble, kind and compassionate soul. And also I want to share some of the words from the book which are so wonderful.
    1) ‘It speaks for the power and vitality of India’s democracy
that a poor boy from a small island in Tamil Nadu can travel far in the service of
the motherland and now be considered for the responsibilities of Rashtrapati
    Bhavan.’
    2)
    COURAGE TO GIVE
    Courage to think different,
    Courage to invent,
    Courage to discover the impossible,
Courage to travel on an unexplored path,
    Courage to share knowledge
    Courage to remove pain
    Courage to reach the unreached
    Courage to combat problems
    And succeed,
Are the unique qualities of youth.
As the youth of my nation, I will work and work with courage to achieve
    success in all my missions.
    May God bless you.
    Jai Hind.

It is not surprising that Dr. APJ is still one of the most respected and loved persons in India. He led such a simple life, full of humility and simplicity and, of course, a lot of patience and hard work, without which reaching the heights he has reached in unimaginable. He is still a source of great inspiration the people and students across the country and they follow his footsteps. He stands as a beacon for the generations to come. This book is a very concise biography touching the important things his life; from being born in Rameswaram to becoming the highest position in the country - The President of India - and even more than that is being awarded the "Bharat Ratna" one of the highest honour to a citizen of India. In fact, "Bharat Ratna" gets more decoration for being awarded to Dr. APJ. A must read for the young generation, very inspirational!

"the person who is rich in spirit can never be poor."

I picked up this book randomly and because the book is short it didn't take long to finish, But after finishing the book, I regret why didn't I read this book before.
Everyone knows about A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Sir but after reading the book, I got a chance to know his childhood. The book portrays that his entire journey right from his childhood is an inspiration. The book displays various emotions, hardships he covered, his dedication towards his work and towards his country. And the best thing about the book is that he has written the book in such a good way that it seems as if he is talking to us.

    His words About the book;--

This book was not written to only tell my story. I want every young reader to think that this book is his or her story too.

P.S.- If you haven't read it already then please give it a try

People's President, the Missile Man are some of the epithets used for Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. His life story is awe inspiring and motivates one to pursue their dreams, no matter how big they are. I have deep regards for the man and have always been amazed by his humility and larger than life attitude. His story will always remain close to my heart and will inspire me as it has a million others to accomplish their life goals.

    Inspirational!

The life story of respected A. P. J. Abdul Kalam is an inspiration, to have a dream and to work sincerely towards it. The sence of patriotism it brings out is of a different level. It awakens the fire to become better everyday. It also illustrates, how to be unaffected by the great achievements and be engrossed in something even better. A book which should be read by every citizen of India. 🙏

    - Book Review: "My Life" by APJ Abdul Kalam - 📚🇮🇳

A book written primarily for a very young audience, "My Life" is an illustrated autobiography by APJ Abdul Kalam.

Primarily a scientist, APJ Abdul Kalam helped India launch it's first satellite in the late 70s / early 80s.

He also went on to play an instrumental role in creating India's first nuclear bomb in 1998.

What really stands out in the book is his own self-awareness about the irony of belonging to the land of Gandhi AND at the same time not feeling the least bit contrite in developing weapons of mass destruction.

And yet the calm Gandhi-esque demeanour of Abdul Kalam in the public eye belies a man of great inner strength, conviction, a competitive streak, and perhaps just a hint of braggadocio.

APJ Abdul Kalam capped off his remarkable career by taking up the role of President of India during the twilight of his career, a role offered to him by the then BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A man who transcended the boundaries of caste and creed, Abdul Kalam is arguably one of the most highly respected and revered individuals of the modern era.

While the book itself will most likely not be a penchant read for adults, a young audience will be more likely to gravitate towards it.

    My rating: 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
