When Chester sees his mother give his baby brother a Kissing Hand—his Kissing Hand—he is overcome with sadness, but Mrs. Raccoon soothes his fears with her own special brand of wisdom, finding just the right way to let Chester know he is deeply loved. Brought to life by Barbara Leonard Gibson's warm illustrations, this story is perfect for families who are adjusting to all the changes new members can bring.

Beautifully illustrated story about a big brother struggling to share Mama's love. My 3-year-old asked me to read this to him twice just today. We read a lot of books when I was pregnant and baby #2 was a newborn, but this book is really wonderful for dealing with tough emotions as the baby is crawling and interacting more.

Chester Raccoon’s little brother plays with his toys, reads his books, and follows him everywhere. Chester wants to give him back. Mother Raccoon explains that Ronny just wants to be like Chester. She gives Chester a kiss in the middle of his palm. When she does the same for Ronny, Chester worries that Mommy Raccoon doesn’t love him any longer. So she tells him a story about the stars and the sun and Kissing Hands.

The Lexile Level for this book is, as with many picture books for young children, adult directed. The 580 Level is far beyond the reading skills of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children. However, this follow-up to “The Kissing Hand” is a delightfully-illustrated tale that will enchant children and parents alike. It’s a perfect book to share with a big brother or sister; the charming story is sure to be a favorite, requested to be read again and again.

    Highly recommended.

A Pocket Full of Kisses explores the feeling of jealousy as the main character grapples with the reality of having a baby brother. The imagery displayed in the book is very sweet and loving as the mother bear reassures her young cub that she loves him just the same. This would be great for young children who are expecting a baby sibling and it helps to reassure children that they are still loved.

I loved the details in the illustrations in this book. I can see every strand of fur on the raccoon’s back. I liked the details of the trees, bushes, and grass as well. I liked how Mrs. Raccoon doesn’t down play Chester Raccoon’s feelings toward his younger brother, but instead calmly explains how she can love both of her sons.

What an adorable book! I had no idea there was another book after The Kissing Hand and oh man, just as cute as the first one. Possibly even cuter! The illustrations are so darn cute and detailed. It has such a nice loving story of mother and children love, it's adorable. I highly recommend it. New favorite.

  • Elliot's Mama

This would be a good book for an older sibling when they deal with jealousy/feeling upset they have a younger sibling. Elliot’s an only child so he can’t relate to the raccoon who is angry he has a new brother. The mom’s explains she has enough kisses for both of them, which is sweet, but if just wasn’t one we returned to often.

This is a cute book about having a new sibling. It encourages the family system of being a big sibling and how it can hold some responsibility. "A Pocket Full of Kisses" is a great sequel that poses a new theme with great pictures.

Wonderful book to help older siblings deal with the needs of their younger siblings. The older racoon is worried his baby brother is taking all his moms love. This book can help children who's families are expecting another child in the home.

Chester Raccoon's baby brother was becoming a nuisance to Chester. Then he saw his mother give his brother a kissing hand, the same as she'd given him. He was very upset, so his mother gives him an extra something special. This is a sweet story with amazing illustrations.

Once again, much like Chester's Big Bad Bully, this sequel to the original Kissing Hand is filled with lovely illustrations. I liked how Chester's mother explained to him how each of her children has their own kissing hand memory with her.
