In 10-Minute Plays for Kids , young thespians will find terrific plays by some of our most prominent playwrights – such as Sharyn Rothstein, Alex Broun, Jenny Lyn Bader, Claudia I. Haas, and Mark Harvey Levine, and by others less well known but equally terrific such as Sharai Bohannon, Suzanne Bailie, and Shirley King. The characters and situations portrayed are perfect for the kid actor. Some of the plays explore relatable tales of friendship and family, while others allow the actors to take on the personas of nonhuman characters, such as fish and chess pieces! 10-Minute Plays for Kids is ideal for theater students, youth groups, and acting classes.

10-Minute Plays For Kids (Applause Acting Series) Reviews

This book has some cute little plays that are age appropriate for older children to perform.

I enjoyed the mix of characters, styles, voices, etc. in the collection. I also appreciated the fact that the characters read real for their ages.

For me the drawbacks were: the play that claimed being fat means you cannot be a superhero, the one showing that dancing your own dance will get you killed (literally), and the one that lectures a child on the woes of being an adult. Seriously?!? Yeesh!

That said, I really enjoyed the one on chess, which surprised me because I am not a fan of chess, and a few of the others that encourage imagination, being true to yourself, and one that provoked thought and curiosity (sometimes overlapping in the same plays).

I especially enjoyed the first play about Christmas and the one about the girl and her mother.
