Life's a witch ... and then you die.
Bay Winchester is living the witch part – literally. She’s hoping to avoid the dying part.
The Winchester world is full of trouble when great-aunt Willa and cousin Rosemary come to town. It’s clear they’re up to something, but no one can figure out what.
Aunt Tillie is loading for bear. She’s declared war on her sister, and she’s not taking prisoners – or looking to skirt collateral damage.
When a young man’s body shows up at Hollow Creek, Bay’s attention is divided thanks to a morose ghost who blames her for ending “party time” and Aunt Tillie’s refusal to back down.
FBI Agent Landon Michaels enjoys watching the show, although he’s worried the dead man’s ties to the local drug trade could put the Winchesters in danger due to Aunt Tillie’s “glaucoma medicine” side business.
Local kids are trying to steal from the property, Aunt Willa is trying to undermine everyone and Aunt Tillie has a secret that she’s dying to spill – that is when she’s not protecting her land with a shotgun.
Bay is determined to find answers, even if she dies in the process.

Well what can I say. Aunt Tillie is all it for me. She had so many soft moments in this one. I loved all the heart to hearts even if Tillie tried to be harsh through out. Loved the fact that everyone was trying to get Tillie's pot and the curses which came about because of it all. We also met Tillie's sister or cousin and it' s not good.

4 Stars... The Winchester witches are up to their mischief when an unwanted family member comes to town and appears to be up to no good... With Tillie in tow the shenanigans are sure to be catastrophic... In the meantime, a teenager is murdered and drugs appear to be involved... With Bay and Landon on the case, what could go wrong???... I once again loved spending time with these fabulous characters and all their banter and wit; we get to see the Winchester women start to come into their own in all of their relationships...Another fun and crazy read with this fantastical family.:)

    Funniest one yet!

Oh my goodness, this story was hilarious! Aunt Tillie was on fire this time and I enjoyed every word! Landon and Bay were so cute and Landon will make you swoon with his sweetness. Of course, things have to go bad and they do with a black sheep sister back in town and a murder. A must read!

    AMAZING!

I look forward to EACH AND EVERY ONE of Amanda M. Lee's books. I can honestly say she is my FAVORITE author! Hands down! I have completely loved every book written by her and I continuously check for the next one to be released. I have recommended her to everyone I know. I read over 300 books in 3 months and Ms. Lee's were by far my favorite. I have never laughed out loud while reading a book before I started the Witches of the Midwest series. I have laughed so hard I cried! Every series has been a 5 star hit and if you are looking for an author you can continue to read time and time again, then this is the author for you. I can't wait for the next Witches book...short or full length, and I am especially excited to read the new series Freaky Days! There are just not enough stars to truly rate these books! I give them all 100 stars and 2 thumbs up!

Bay is living the good witch life. That is until her great Aunt Tillie's sister comes to town with her granddaughter and Aunt Tillie has a melt down. Not only that, but there is another dead body found, and Bay is in the thick of things. She and Landon will have to work together to figure out what happened, and who is trying to trespass on her family's property. Also, they have to be on the look out for Aunt Willia's end game as well.

This book was really good. It was really interesting to learn more about Tillie and her past.
I also enjoyed Bay and Landon working together as well, and Bay figure out what happened to the ghosts she saw.

I look forward to more now.

So now, I'm caught up to my review for the book I actually just finished. This one had a little more promise. I actually was pretty captivated in the beginning....Overall it's not bad. But my few little moments of irritation.

1.) The bacon thing is getting old.

2.) Nonplussed....I don't think the author understand the use of this word OR that she doesn't have to use it on every other page.

3.) Landon is still a prick.

Yet, onto the next one because I just can't help myself.

  • Nancy

Excellent, I never get tired of the winchester witch and you gotta love Aunt Tilly

  • Chris B

As this series progresses, the stories are getting better and better, with more mystery, more twists you don’t see coming, and in general just more entertaining. Good for you Amanda M. Lee for continually improving.

    4.5 stars
After the last book, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue with this series.  Thankfully, this book made up for the shortcomings of the last book.  Lots of Aunt Tillie's antics, a solid plot and very little of the immature antics that plagued the last book.

Bay and the rest of the Winchesters are dealing with the hated Aunt Willa returning to town and what her motives are for returning.  In the midst of dealing with Willa, a young man is found murdered, putting Bay and Landon in the middle of another investigation.

I really liked the plot in this one, lots of twists and turns and a good pace kept me turning pages until the end.  Lots of Aunt Tillie in this one, I think she's the main thing that draws me to these books.  In fact, if she had her own series, I'd leave this one far behind.  There wasn't a lot of witchy goings-on in this one, too.  I was hoping Aunt Tillie would smite someone again.

I deducted a quarter of a star because listening to Landon and Bay was just too cutesy for me.  I get it, they're in love.  You'd think they were teenagers the way they were going on about it, and the Chief's reactions were just as annoying.

Which leads me to why I deducted another quarter of a star - Landon and the Chief don't act very professional, or even like adults.  I can understand and appreciate being a little goofy at times, but this was a little over the top.

Overall, a fantastic, enjoyable read, especially if you enjoy Aunt Tillie.

I read a lot! Most books classical or historical fiction and some top books recommended but every once in a while I take a break into books with the paranormal. Anne Rice is awesome but her books didn't have a lot of humor. I met humor paranormal with Sookie Stackhouse by C. Harris, I thought these were great. Then I met The Winchester Witches, and they win hands down. Their "snark" keeps me laughing. You will never find another Aunt Tillie and her curses. So I recommend to all take a break and enjoy a book and laugh! This author is amazing and doesn't let you down!

Life's a Witch: Wicked Witches of the Midwest 7
Reading in order is not necessary and could prolong your pain. 2.5 stars

In A Nutshell: A potentially good paranormal murder mystery. It's well written with a great character in Aunt Tillie. The murder has an exciting conclusion, and Aunt Tillie is a hoot. Unfortunately, puerile antics undermine the story. It's funny and frustrating.

The Plot: Aunt Tillie's estranged sister returns. That spells trouble ahead. So why is she returning? But attention is diverted by a young man’s body showing up at Hollow Creek.

The Protagonist: Lee writes these stories with Bay Winchester, journalist and Witch as the star. However, the making of the story is Aunt Tillie. The old curmudgeon is ace. Funny, fair and feisty.

There are some lovely aspects to this book. The murder mystery is sound and rewarding. Aunt Tillie is not centre stage, but her antics place everyone in the shade.

I read these books because Aunt Tillie is a wonderful old curmudgeon. Hands down she is the glue that makes it all work. She is fierce in love and wrath. Aunt Tillie is my role model for old age. I want to grow up to be as fun loving, feisty, fierce and adventurous.

It's unfortunate that to get to Aunt Tillie, I have to read about Bay's beau Landon. Landon 'boring' Michael's works for the FBI; is obsessed by bacon, he wants it as Bay's perfume, and is infatuated with Bay being blonde. Weird. And he's a law enforcement officer!

The worse thing about this shallow one dimensional over possessive character is he is rude to his seniors including Bay's mother, Willa. Sigh. He publically admonished Willa, tells her that her daughter owes her nothing and warns Willa, not to push him. He also swears at Aunt Tillie in her home and while eating at her dinner table. Landon would not last 15 minutes in a Caribbean home. I'm waiting for him to get shot in the line of duty. Yay.

However, the plots are sufficiently interesting to hold my attention. And it was a pleasant surprise finding less juvenile conduct between the cousins. I'm not sure I can continue with the series. Even with my love of Aunt Tillie. But it's a good book to start the series for those interested in cosy paranormal mysteries.

    And then your sister visits!!

When Aunt Tillie's sister Willa twists Winnie's arm into letting her visit with her granddaughter Rosemary Tillie has a conniption..

There's no love lost between the sisters and Tillie knows that Willa has evil plans in mind. She's only ever been interested in her nieces, Winnie, Marnie and Twila, for what she can gain even trying to take the girls from Tillie's care to gain access to their inheritance. Rosemary is no better having befriended Lila Stevens and spent a whole summer mercilessly bullying Bay..

They have 10 days of family fun to try and work out exactly what Willa and Rosemary are up and stop them in their tracks.

Meanwhile a young man's body has been found at Hollow Creek where the highschoolers meet for weekend parties.

Nathaniel's end was brutal, stabbed 8 times and dumped in the creek. Bay's doing her best to talk to him but his anger is becoming increasingly dangerous, he's covering for the pot smoking and drug dealing in which he was involved.

With teenage kids desperately trying to find Aunt Tillie's "oregano field" after law enforcement burn theirs to the ground and Willa and Rosemary sneaking around the grounds late at night.. everyone except Tillie is off their form.

When the truth comes out Aunt Tillie has all the answers for Willa.. it's not going to be as easy for Nathaniel's family though..

    great read

This is the first of 5 series that at least have one overlap. I’ve read them completely out of wack since I started with the freaky circus series. That series introduced me to the Winchester’s in one book and the Grimlocks in the next one. I think the Wicked witch shorts fall in between Each Wicked witch book. Not quite sure where the wicked witch fantasy’s fall but I can tell you after reading 7 Wicked witch books, 6 Grimlock books and 9 Freaky circus books that these are great books. The humor can occasionally be interesting but I have loved every one I read.
Even better I haven’t noticed a wrong name or pronoun in any, haven’t had to reread any sentences multiple times to figure out what they were trying to say or seriously wondered why no one seems to edit or proofread any more in reading any of the 20+ I’ve read.

  • Tammy

My biggest issue with this book is the repetitive overuse of the word “nonplussed”—incorrectly. Did no one edit this book? The author completely misunderstands what the word means, using it to mean its opposite.

Nevertheless, I enjoy reading these books enough (they’re kind of like candy, no literary value but still fun), that I’ll likely keep reading. But, please, someone tell the author how “nonplussed” is defined!

(Apparently, the word is misused so often in America, that it now is in the dictionary as a misused word—yes, they call it that—which has its opposite definition—only in America, ugh!)

  • Angela Griffin

    Fun

Something wicked this way comes...and it looks eerily familiar! Between bothersome relatives and an inexplicable murder Landon hasn't enough time to enjoy his blonde and the current town festival. I really enjoy this family: Bay is running headlong into danger, as usual; Aunt Tillie and Thistle are at their snarky best; and Clove is irrelevant as usual. The culmination of the mystery is sad, but the revelation of a family secret is a happy moment, and comic bits are interspersed throughout this entertaining read. Now, if only the author can be taught the correct meaning of "nonplussed" and encouraged to use it SPARINGLY!

Watch out Winchester ladies, Willa’s back.

And I thought they broke the mould with Tillie. However, it seems that her youngest sister, Willa, is more of a b!tch than a witch. After a decades long absence, Willa (with her horrible granddaughter in tow) has resurfaced with some nefarious scheme in mind - and they’re staying at The Overlook! The fur will definitely fly before the end.

This was fast paced and had me completely engrossed to see what Aunt Tillie was plotting in her quest for revenge. Now if only Mrs Little could reap some of that Karma in the future, I would truly be blissed out 😉

  • Mike Lewis

    Entertainment at its best

This is one of the best mystery series I’ve read. It is a family of good witches in a little Nash town that together help solve mysteries of the day. Snarky a bit of sarcasm and a fun entertaining story. Great characters you’ll fall in love with them and laugh throughout the story. Never gets too dark but is a true cozy mystery but the characters all fit perfectly together like a puzzle from Ray the main character to great aunt Tillie one of the most entertaining characters. Don’t miss out start the series now.

Family feuds lead into all out war.

Fabulous. A visit from her absentee aunt and cousin throws Aunt Tillie into full battle mode. She isn't going to take any prisoners in this war. Add in the murder of a college boy, pot and the desire to find out the reason for the visit for a terrific read. Great characters and the dialogue between the two senior family members is wonderful (chalk and cheese comes nowhere near discrimination their differences). A great plot that although spread the cousins thinly managed to wrap everything up with feeling and a caring attitude. Loved it.

  • Anita

I enjoyed another series by the same author, and her books are free on Kindle Unlimited, so I gave this series a chance, reading all the books back to back, so they all run into each other in my head. It was fun. If you like cozies (light mysteries without much suspense - think "Murder She Wrote") and you like paranormal novels, this series is perfect for you. The characters are loveable and a lot of fun. The mysteries are not that hard to solve, but enjoyable all the same. Aunt Tillie is a really funny character.

    Another fun read

The beginning was a little annoying I like to read books in sequence and even though this was next in sequence, I didn't realize they had a separate set of books with the events of one being referenced.

Having gotten over that, I realize the mystery was decent but the draw remains the Winchester women. Their bond, their bickering and the drama. It never fails to make me laugh
