He will now tell his story, of the triumphs and disappointments, as well as the great friendships he made, and greatest matches he played in. He will equally be forthright in what he thinks of the game today, and how Ireland will fair in the Rugby World Cup and beyond to the Six Nations in 2016. For any fan of Irish rugby, at whatever level you play, this is an elegiac memoir to cherish.

Tony Ward comes across as a pretty nice guy.
In fact that is the one problem with this book, he comes across as too nice. Given the petty-minded treatment he got from the suits in the IRFU during his rugby career it is surprising he didn't put the boot in. It clearly rankled with him and readers will feel a bit shortchanged that he didn't give us more emotion.
As a cancer survivor he seems to have a retrospectively chilled almost detached attitude to some of the controversies.
You can't help but feel reading this that his Ireland career was unnecessarily curtailed by the bizarre antics of rugby administrators. So it's a pity there isn't a gut grabbing moment in the book where he lets rip at them.
Also the chronology of the book confused me at times.
Still enjoyed it.
