The Court House Square Reviews
-
After the tremendous work of Yeary's first book of Ocala, Florida, I turned to his fifth book focusing on the Court House Square and found massive repetition and a litany of names composing the bulk of the text.
Yeary is clearly trying to fill in his perceived omissions of his first book. While he fills in some blanks, he also retells the story again to get to the filler. Not sure if the filler was worth printing another book. He probably should have reprinted an update of the first book.
What little there is of Yeary's writing is as good as the first book.
There are some worthy oral histories in the book. All backing Yeary's history. Most are listing many names of people and businesses around the court house square.
There are also many photos and documents copied into the book. There are pages of a Polk directory at the end, but the one thing a directory must have to make a reader understand the information - A Map! This book suffers greatly nt having a map while there is som much about locations and street names.
Bottom line: i don't recommend this book - UNLESS you are researching Ocala history. 3 out of 10 points
