Alabama's golden boy has everything he's ever wanted.

He's smashed the school record for most passing yards, touchdown passes and completed passes during his college career. He is the winner of the Maxwell Award as the Nation's best all-around player, and is slated to enter the NFL draft. But even with all his success, he was unable to hold onto the one thing that was most important to him-Laney Summers.

Laney and Kam have long since gone their separate ways, but one Friday morning sports broadcasting class and an unforeseen threat to Kam's brightly shining future has these two back on a very familiar path. A path full of love and lust and unresolved feelings. A path where life-altering decisions have to be made, and questions need to be answered - like what's more important your heart or your career?

After the end of the first book, getting my hands on some more Kamdyn and Laney was an absolute necessity. These two are characters that you cannot help but care about.
We pick up right back after the end of book one and while Kamdyn and Laney are still together, this football superstar is about to hit the big time but unfortunately his relationship with Laney is beginning to slip.
Kamdyn has achieved so much, he has torn the record book up, leaving the others in his wake all the way through college winning the top awards and was shoe in for the first draft of the illustrious NFL but he may have had all his dreams knocking on his door but the one person he wanted to be beside him, has taken a good hard look at what they have between them, and made the decision to call it a day and they go their separate ways.
Laney Summers was the best thing that ever happened to Kam but life got in the way.
Could life throw the pair of them a life line years later?
Three years and they cross paths again, had time taken the shine of all that went before them or can they rekindle the longing that they seem to still harbour deep within?
Laney’s boyfriend is a big issue for Kamdyn, there is something about him other than the fact he has “his”woman that just rubs him up the wrong way.
But no matter what he feels about him, he is just one of the catalysts that makes him see that he not only wants but he needs Laney back.
But as you would expect the path they have to travel is far from smooth. Kamdyn is rocked to his core when he is hit with an accusation that has the possibility to rock his world to its very core.
Will Laney stand by him this time?
The book short and if anything that is my only criticism, I wanted more.

"That’s my life, one part football, one part Laney. I have always known that, and I’m not going to stop until I put the two broken pieces back together again."

After One Southern Night, I wanted more of Kamdyn and Laney. I had so many questions that I was dying to get answers to. Could their relationship survive college? What about Kam's football career? We get all of those answers and more.

Laney is tired of always coming in second - to her mom's career, her dad's career, and now Kam's football career. For once she wants to be put first. Knowing that it will only get worse, Laney lets Kam go.

I wanted to slap Kam. I know he's a star and everyone wants a piece of the action, but it killed me when he just let her go. Like she wasn't worth fighting for.

Skip ahead three years and these two have barely seen each other. That all changes when they're stuck taking a class together. The chemistry between Kam and Laney is hotter than ever. And they still have that comfort and sense of belonging that they only find in each other. But college is ending soon. Will they go their separate ways? Or fight for each other?

I can't really say much more but I loved One Northern Morning. It's the perfect follow up to One Southern Night.

I was so happy to hear that Kam and Laney were getting another book. After reading One Southern Night, One Northern Morning was the perfect follow up.

Here we are over 3 years later and things have changed for Kam and Laney. It was sad seeing things didn't work out with them. Everything became football to Kam and that put the final strain on their relationship years ago. Laney has enough and called it quits. Here they are now taking a class together which has them spend time together.

I really loved the dual povs. You can tell even though they are not together, there are still some unresolved feelings. They both regret what happened. Can they rekindle their love? Kam is caught up in a scandal and decided to get away and who goes with him?:)..Laney.

What happens after that has you thinking so many things. hoping they can reconnect, but can they? Decisions have to be made. What do they choose? You have to read to find out!

Marissa , thanks for giving us more Kam and Laney ;) It was a nice quick read and highly recommended. You need to start with the first book so you can know how they became who they are now. Loved it!

Fantastic Novella.. Great follow up to One Southern Night

Kam and Laney.. loved their story and couldn't wait for more! This was the perfect continuation from One Southern Night.

This book picked up at Lainey and Kam's freshman year in college. It gives us a glimpse of how the spotlight from all of the stardom Kamdyn has now earned has taken its toll on their relationship as they don't get to spend as much time together. Lainey tries to do the right thing to protect herself so she sets him free and ends their relationship.
Three years later they coincidentally end up having a class together and speak to each other for the first time in three years. Lainey and Kam are pushed together when a scandal threatens Kamdyn's football career.
Will Lainey and Kam be able to build a friendship with such a rocky foundation? Or will they be doomed to just be old friends?
Lainey and Kam both learn how to deal with so much on a different level than most young adults their age. It was really good to see them handle their own issues and solve most of their problems on their own. I cannot wait for more.

I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this book and chose to review it.

A sweet book, but again, I felt it was rushed and skimped on the details. I think there were a lot of opportunities where the angst and drama could've been built up and I think the book would've been better for it. Still, I enjoyed this book, but I think there's improvement to be had.

One Northern Morning by Marissa Carmel is a story about what started out as young love between an up and coming star quarterback and his high school love. Some may say you could read this as a standalone but I don’t recommend it. For the full effect of their story, I personally encourage you to start with, One Southern Night, I guarantee that you won’t regret it. For me, it was a great introduction to the characters and their backstory. I am so glad that I read it first because it helped me to dive straight back into their story without any questions and/or missing a beat.

One Northern Morning starts as Kam and Laney are just beginning their college years. Kam, as we know, is a star quarterback and along with stardom and fame comes an infringement on personal time with loved ones. We quickly learn that Laney is tired of playing second fiddle to Kam’s success on and off the football field and so she makes a very tough decision. As much as I hated her decision, I also understood her reasoning and respected it. Laney’s decision wasn’t an easy one but it was definitely done out of her love for Kam.

What I really loved about Kam and Laney was their deep connection with each other. I loved that even through tough times, they still had an unspoken bond with each other even if it was a silent one. Laney was most definitely Kam’s rock and I loved that he recognized that without a doubt and had no problem admitting it.

This book was a fairly quick read that I really enjoyed. The storyline flowed seamlessly, albeit the timeline, however skipped forward quite a bit throughout but that was fine with me because it basically just gave me so much more of the “meat and potatoes” of their story instead of just a lot of fluff in between. I loved that the drama and angst are dealt with in a timely fashion and the issues get resolved fairly quickly. My only minor complaint if you will, would be the issue that Kam faces and the way it was handled, I found it a bit “odd” for me personally but not a major concern.

At one point in the latter half of the story, I did get an “on the edge of my seat” moment wondering how their story would play out. Will they finally be able to overcome the obstacles in their way? How will Kam’s career affect Laney and her future? Will Kam and Laney finally get their HEA? I won’t spoil anything but I will say that by the end of the book, I loved both of these characters immensely. I loved watching how much they grew and matured as individuals and I especially loved the decisions that they each had to make by the end, it was touching and it surely showed how un-selfish they were as individuals!

“It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been apart or how many other women I’ve been with, no one makes me feel the way Laney does. Nothing compares to her scent or skin or sighs.”

5 stars!! I really love this series. I love Laney and I really love Kam!! It’s fun to see them grow up and grow together really! Great writing and again I loved the characters, I mean who doesn’t love a sexy football players??

Book 2 picks up a little after book 1 left off. Laney and Kam are still together and his career is about to take off as a football player, he has an agent and everything now. Laney is tired of being put on the back burner all the time and she calls it quits. Cut to a few years later Kam is in college and living life as a bachelor and star quarterback on his way to the pros. Walking into his class in college, he runs into Laney. They start talking again but when Kame meets Laney new boyfriend, he’s unimpressed, but he’s still determined to win his girl back. But what happens when scandal comes and rocks his world?? Will he turn to Laney to get him out?? I loved this book!!! I mean Marissa Carmel can do no wrong in my eyes!!

They’ve survived high school and became inseparable, choosing a college together so a long distance relationship was not in the plans – Kam would continue his studies in communications on his football scholarship and Laney in architecture, and yet, more often than not, Laney would hear more excuses from Kam rather he show himself to promised engagements. Laney is forced to make the decision that she’s had it, that she’s simply not a priority for Kam and calls it quits. My heart broke, made me wonder what is going to happen; all the fun, the optimism and especially the trust that both Kam and Laney had for each other was a breath of fresh air, considering all the novels I’ve had the chance to read in the past weeks (no, I’m not complaining). This second book had more twists, more conflicts compared to the first part, which was quite intriguing, if not interesting, at least for me, kept me captivated (I refused to do or read anything else until I was done) until the last page. I still recognized the couple from high school, but I also met the Kam and Laney from college and young adulthood, ready to take on the world. I loved it, and as I mentioned during my last review for book 1 on this series, if Marissa Carmel could create novellas that could please a wide variety of readers with the new adult genre, it would be quite interesting to see what she could do with other genres.

  • Romance Between The Sheets

Please note this review may contain spoilers.

At the end of ONE SOUTHERN NIGHT, Laney and Kam are about to head off to college together and are very much in love. Flash forward almost four years later and we learn that they broke up not too long after they started college. Their relationship fell apart once Kam's future really took off and Laney was left feeling second best. The only time she had 100% of him was in bed and that wasn't good enough for her. Once again, Laney stood up for herself because she knew she was worth it and deserved more than what she was getting from Kam. But I wouldn't say that Kam was really at fault here either. Making it to the NFL had been his dream since he was a child, and it's a dream he was determined to fulfill. Sadly, losing Laney came from trying to turn that dream into a reality.

ONE NORTHERN MORNING is another novella, so again it's a very quick read. In fact, that's my only issue with this book; it's too short. I think it would have been even better if certain events were fleshed out and their emotions were really delved in to. It's told in dual POVs and comes with a HEA. Will we hear more from Laney and Kam? Maybe. I wouldn't mind seeing what their future holds.

I loved One Southern Night so I was expecting good things for Kam and Laney in the follow up novella One Northern Morning. This sweet story was just a perfect dose of happy with a handful of swoon/blush worthy moments and its HEA had me doing a little dance of joy. While you don't need to read One Southern Night before jumping into One Northern Morning, I highly recommend checking out both novella's. Author Marissa Carmel nails the beauty and pain of first loves and tragic separation. Do not miss this charming romance.

    Favorite Quotes:

"She's tenacious, and independent and assertive, but what never fails to make me crumble is her honest vulnerability."

"There's one lingering moment before I take her that resonates through the whole house. One heated, heartbeat of yearning that passes between us before I grab her ass and sink into the most euphoric tightness that I have ever known."

"Laney is the one person who can make me forget. She's the one person who can make me feel normal. She's the one person I never want to let go of again."

    Happy reading.

I have been dying for this book! Let me tell you it is everything I was hoping for and More!!! Kam & Laney's story picks up after One Southern Night. What started on the 50-yard line in One Southern Night has grown to adulthood in One Northern Morning, and we get to watch what the pressures of football and ambitions do to young love, because even a strong love has to be nurtured -

"Laney is the one person who can make me forget. She’s the one person who can make me feel normal. She’s the one person I never want to let go of again." ~ But will Kam get the chance to prove to Laney that she is what matters most?

Marissa Carmel weaves a story that will have you laughing and crying ... And yeah, the passion between these two, H.O.T!

"Lemon.” Kam huffs amused. “We can roll around in the mud tomorrow. Tonight I want dinner, then dessert, and then you.”

Check out One Northern Morning - It is a 5 star book you don't want to miss!! Did I mention, sexy football player? Yeah, Nuff said!

I loved this book! Laney is waiting. Waiting on Kam to show up to one of the most important moments of her life. He does show up, right after it is all over and all he has to say is that he is sorry. Laney cannot take his sorries and excuses anymore and decides that she is done. Kam is one of the most sought after football players and has to jump whenever his manager, Sam, calls. Years later, these two reconnect during a broadcasting class and the feelings are still there. Laney tries so hard to move on and conceal her feelings until a story comes out and could possibly ruin Kam's career and future. After spending the weekend, these two know that there is still something between them. But will Sam come between them again or will this potential story ruin what they both have and Kam's future.

One Northern Morning is the perfect continuation to One Southern Night.

Kam and Laney are now in Uni, Kam is a star, breaking records after his first year but in doing so it leaves little time for his relationship with Laney.

The story really begins three years later when they are in there final year of uni, old feelings are rehashed and scandal could cause Kam to loose everything his worked so hard for. he turns to the one person he has always relied on...Laney. But have things really changed?

I loved this short Novella, it gave us the perfect insight into what has been going on with Kam and Laney, we get some hot steamy moments, we get the cocky attitude of Kam, the heartbreak and happiness of there soul deep relationship.

I want more Kam and Laney. Please tell us we get more

I tend to avoid novellas because I find there's not enough information to get me into the story, appreciate the characters, etc.
This was well written and a continuation of One Southern Night. There are no problems with this short story, other than that, it's a short story. I gave it a 3.5 rounded up to 4 because the writing was very good.

I hope for a full length book from Marissa Carmel soon as I feel her talents are lost on short stories.

  • Page Turners

I was a little saddened to find out that Kam and Laney had broken off their relationship. Each one was chasing their own dreams when fate brings them back together again. Kam has finally made it to the NFL like he always dreamed about but was losing Laney worth it? Laney was willing to walk away from Kam because she did not want to be an option when she should be a priority. Once again I fell in love with this couple and was cheering them on to a happy ending.

  • Amber Britten

    Loved it

I was hooked on this book since the first couple pages.. I loved it, Kam is so determined when he gets something on his mind and laney she is just as determined as kam, that's why they make such a great couple. I was shocked when kam was in New York to play professional football and laney was in another state thinking she was gonna find kam. Can't wait for the next book.

  • Heather andrews

You wanna see cocky, and a man full of himself all you have to do is look at Kam, “Lemon, if you wanted to see me naked, all you had to do was ask.” He may not be the most romantic guy but his words still pack a punch, “you definitely should.” He hauls me up. “But if we’re going raw, I don’t want it to be some two-cent eff in the dirt.” This series may be short, quick reads but they're always enjoyable.

  • Marie Carlisle

This book made my heart HAPPY!!

I could read about Kam and Laney forever. I was so happy they got back together and then I thought oh no here we go again, why can't they just go with their hearts. He knew after all the years that passed she was his safe place. They are going to do it!!! The book ended right at the point to make you hang on and want more. I love Marissa Carmel!!

I think if you write short stories this is how you do it. Lots of chemistry, easy to like characters. Not much drama but very easy to get both Kam and Laney. Not a deep journey, but romantic entertainment with the right amount of steam. I would like to read more from this author.
