Things are finally starting to fall into a steady rhythm in the small town of Goose Creek, Kentucky. Millie Richardson is hard at work renovating a drafty Victorian house into a B&B. Her husband, Al, is busy writing checks for the renovations. And the new vet, Susan, has finally found acceptance from the town—not to mention a hunky new boyfriend, Justin. But things never stay quiet for long in Goose Creek. The inner-county softball game is coming up, and Millie volunteers Al as team manager. But the softball team is a disaster. If they're not going to embarrass themselves in front of the whole of Franklin County, Al needs Justin to play. But Justin lives just outside the city limits, and the rules say that players must live in town. As if that weren't enough to keep the town gossips busy, a massage therapist has come to town and opened up shop. Imagine—a massage parlor!—in Goose Creek! No decent Creeker will stand for it. It's up to Al and Millie—again—to save the day.

Renovating the Richardsons (Tales from the Goose Creek B\u0026B #2) Reviews

I have not read anything by this author before, however, this book was a fun story.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Millie and Al are renovating a bed & breakfast and unfortunately everything seems to be going wrong. From mold, layers of old wallpaper to an army of squirrels, it seems that the quirky couple have their work cut out for them.

In between the renovations, Millie is still helping out at the veterinarians office and Al is still waiting for retirement to kick in. Millie has offered his assistance with the local soft ball team and everyone in the quaint little town is still blaming Al for selling his house to an annoying neighbor.

Usually I stick to cozy mysteries but I noticed this book and decided to give it a try. I am really happy that I did, I enjoyed this book so much that I read it in one sitting. There are several LOL moments in the story and it was definitely worth reading.
I will recommend this book to others and I will be looking to read more in this series.

This is the second book in the series but I have not read the first one. I was able to follow along as the author has a very nice style of writing.

When your world is going crazy and everything seems up hill... what do you do?

I'll tell you what you need to do. Grab this here book, Renovating the Richardsons by Virginia Smith.

I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

I cannot tell you when the last time it was that I sunk so deeply into a book that time seemed to stand still around me while I was swept away by the story and the lovable characters that resided within the pages. It seem to take you back to a simpler time where people listened to each other. Where they cared about their neighbors. Life runs at it own pace in Goose Creek Come along and become friends with Minnie and Al as they renovate the Bed and Breakfast. As Al reluctantly gets roped in as a softball manager.

Find out the reactions of old townfolk as a new massage therapist is introduced to our favorite characters.

It is a fun and easy read and Im sure you will love the characters as much as I do and look forward to meeting new characters as the series progresses.

    4.5 rating

I said it previously, but it's worth repeating --- this series reminds me of Fannie Flagg {older books}. The storyline and writing style is similar, with the exception of humor. Fannie's book contain more humor.

The characters are likable --- I especially like Justin and Susan. I want more from them. I'm hopeful that we'll see more of Susan's dad, Thomas, and his friend Tuesday Love in future books.

The Richardsons are enjoyable, more so in book one than book two, but I'm really not sure why.

I did start getting a little tired of everything towards the end --- there was a lot going on in the book --- but enjoyed Justin's surprise.

The next book in this series, Millie and Albert have just moved into their new home. Things aren’t as easy as Millie had hoped and Albert still doesn’t love the house. His theory that it’s a money pit might actually be right.

Susan is not the newest resident in town now, a massage therapist has moved into town. Given how uptight some of the townsfolk can be, it’s not surprising that Tuesday Love is not well received and neither is her new business.

The storyline about the water tower continues. Susan and her architect are still dating with increased drama from her father.

Also there’s a storyline about forming a baseball team.

Honestly I could not get into the baseball portion of the story at all. I was hoping this would be the book that actually focused on opening the B&B. No. We are a ways off from that yet.

The next book sounds like it will cover that story. So, of course, I have to read that too. I’ve committed to the story of Millie, Albert and their B&B and I’m ready for it to happen.
Not much storyline progression in this book but I did like the addition of Tuesday Love.

Renovating the Richardsons (Tales from the Goose Creek B&B Book 2) by [Smith, Virginia]I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Set in Goose Creek, Kentucky, Millie Richardson is renovating a Victorian house in a B and B. Al, her husband, spends his time writing the checks for this project. Susan, the new veterinarian has settled in and found a new boyfriend, Justin.

Things go along as usual for a little while, but never for long. There is an inner-county softball game approaching. Millie is going to be the manager for Al's not so great team. There was hope that Justin could play but he doesn't live in town, so he is not eligible.

This, along with other happenings, seem to require Al and Millie to come to the rescue.

This book is part of a series, but it was so much fun on its own that I didn't mind that at all. I will go and check out the Richardsons whenever I can. I loved this book.

I loved listening to this book. Becky Doughty does an awesome job bringing the characters to life. I've enjoyed Milly and Al with there remodeling efforts and the squirrel problems. I laughed out loud several times. Violet cracks me up, her sayings reminds me of some things my mom used to say. Loved the blooming romance of Justin and Susan. Best of all was Thomas's transformation under Tuesday's administrations. I went from wanting to choke him to laughing. Virginia, thanks for another awesome story.

2019 Book Hoarders Challenge--Same (last) name as mine (SMITH)

An older couple is renovating a new home they bought, a Victorian, and run into more problems than anticipated. Tie in the dynamics of the community and the love of the couple, you have a hilarious and good feeling novel.

Under this year's challenge, I could classify it as several categories, but I really enjoyed the older couple and how their dynamics made me laugh!

Another fun entry in this series. This time we get to see the Richardsons renovating their old home with the aim of being a B&B. Of course nothing is easy! Meanwhile the town is prepping for a big softball game, a new person causes a stir in town and Susan's romance is growing. All that and a water tower unveiling. Fun and easy reading.

  • Bethany

For a while this was two stars for me since it didn't really draw me in like the first book did. But as you can see by the end I was enjoying the story again. Particularly the baseball game.
A good follow up to the first book and I'm pretty sure I'll be looking into reading the next book in the series.

Millie's work on the manor house, soon to be B&B, is hampered by mold. Al and the house have squirrel issues. A "friendly" ball game between Goose Creek and a neighboring town has few fans, but lots of heart. The newly painted and highly contentious water tower is revealed. The familiar characters and setting give this series a warm and cozy feeling.

  • Linda

The 2nd in the Goose Creek Bed and Breakfast series.....I really enjoyed it. The town of Goose Creek is every bit as appealing as Mitford in the Jan Karon series. Hope the series continues on and on!

  • Cindy

Millie is rehabbing the old Victorian and, as is often the case, finding more needs to be done than just the cosmetic! Al is roped into managing the town's baseball team while all the while combating squirrels!

  • Amanda

Another fun and funny story. I love how real and authentic Al and Millie's relationship is. In spite of the difficulties they face (and often cause for each other), they still love each other and work through it. What a wonderful message to share in this day and age of disposable relationships.

While the Goose Creek books will never qualify as classic literature, they are thoroughly enjoyable to read! Light-hearted and fun with lovable characters, these are a great summer read!

    Laugh out loud fun

I love the town and the eccentric townsfolk! The story is sweet and makes me wish I could visit Goose Creek.

  • Tonya

Good book, gentle, happy ending. I’m not sure what happened to get Thomas to realize the error of his ways, but I’m glad it did. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

  • Morgan

I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series. The Goose Creekers and their never ending problems really made the story.

  • Gail Kushner

    Nice light-hearted book.

A lovely continuation of this series.
