This book briefly describes the role the 2nd Kansas State Militia played in trying to repeal the 1864 Confederate invasion of Missouri. The regiment was organized from Shawnee County during October 1864, with a mix of infantry and cavalry companies. At the Battle of Byram's Ford (also called the Battle of the Big Blue River) on October 22nd, the 2nd Kansas Militia was overrun and scattered, with many men being captured. After Price's Raid, the unit was disbanded.

Pretty interesting book of local history. However, the author waits until almost a third of the way into the book before first mentioning the 2nd Kansas State Militia; personally, that seems like an excessive amount of background information. Also, the maps look like they're republished from the 1800s and are worthless in understanding the regiment's actions.
