Galileo: Scientist and Stargazer (What's Their Story?) Reviews

I enjoy reading biographies with our girls. I have found that the biographies written for children are wonderful for learning an overview of a person's life, work, experiences, and accomplishments. I have been thrilled with the books we've read recently. They are interesting, informative, and no where near as boring or overwhelming with details as the books I dreaded reading when I was a child.
This story explains about Galileo's life, giving a broad overview of his main accomplishments and the troubles he experienced when he defied the church's doctrine. The narrative was easy to read all at one time and we all learned a little bit more about this famous scientist. The illustrations complemented the story nicely, too. We really enjoyed reading this book together. -
Galileo: Scientist and Stargazer (What’s Their Story) by Jacqueline Mitton, Illustrator Gerry Ball, Hindi language translation by Ashutosh Upadhyaya- Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- The book narrates the story of Galileo Galili: Greek Scientist and Star Gazer. He was born in Pisa, Italy. His father was a musician. He played Lute and Organ. He taught music to his son. He was aware that his son was intelligent researcher. He learnt Mathematics and other subjects at home up to the age of 10 years. He was sent to Florence for further education. His father wanted that he should be admitted to learn Medicine but he was not interested in Medicine. At the age of 18 years, he made a scientific discovery in a church. He discovered the speed of movement of hanging lights by the speed of his pulse. He got the job of Maths teacher at Pisa but he had to leave the job because he laughed at other teachers because of their old scientific views. Second experiment which he performed was that a stone falls from different heights of the leaning tower with the same speed. His views were not appreciated by scientific community, therefore, he lfet for Padua in Venician State. He taught in Padua for 18 years. He wished to move to Florence and make experiments. Twenty years before his birth, Nicolas Copernicus discovered that the earth and planets travel round the sun. In 1609, Dutch discovered the telescope to view the stars. He confirmed the view of Copernicus. He wrote a book "The Starry Messenger." He visited Rome with his telescope and showed his experiments to the Authorities. Galileo's revolutionary scientific work brought him into conflict with the authorities but earned him an honored place in history books. He swept away old notions of the universe by observing the skies through a telescope and confirming that the Earth and planets travel around the Sun. After the death of the Pope, the new Pope started a case in the court against the views of Galileo. He was asked to seek pardon from the court on his views. Galileo died at the age of 78 years. Coloured illustrations help the reader in relating to the text. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.

Typical kids' non-fiction historical book telling the story of Galileo. It kept my 8yo's attention, but not my 4- or 2yo's attentions. But maybe there was a little trickling down of information as they played in the same room where I read aloud. I chose this one out of similar books from the library because it was the shortest (Hey, it has to be short and keep my attention if I'm going to read it without falling aslepp!). I thought the author told the story well. I like to supplement this sort of book with story picture books as well. And then lots of activities.

i thought this book was three stars because there too many pictures and there was not enough data ,also this book has no glossary,or about the author also known as a little part of the author s life.
