Pete the Cat and the Bedtime Blues Reviews

Neo seemed to wonder why the cat did not call his parents to report the poorly behaved sleepover friends.

Another easy fun read
Easy for a new reader to read, and many words for them to sound out as well. It was also a cute story. -
After a fun day at the beach, Pete the Cat suggests that his friends come over to his house for a sleepover, in order to continue the good times. What he doesn't expect is that his restless companions will keep him up, when he's just trying to get some zzzzs. Fortunately, Pete thinks to break out a book, and an impromptu story-time sends everyone off to the land of nod, there to dream of another day of fun in the sun...
The seventh full-size picture-book devoted to the adventures of that ever-cool cat, Pete the Cat and the Bedtime Blues is only the second title I have read from this series that wasn't written by the original author/songwriter, Eric Litwin. Like
Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses (the first non-Litwin title I read), I thought the narrative here was a little lacking. There's none of the sing-song quality of the earlier books, despite the repetitive structure of the tale, and even the positive message about keeping cool in the face of difficulties, which did find its way into the sunglasses book, is largely absent here. I'll probably be reading more of these later Pete the Cat books for a project I'm doing at work, but overall, I have to say that this one was a bit of a disappointment. -
I've found this series to be very mediocre now that James and Kimberley are doing the books together. What made the first three books so great was that they came with a song that kids would catch and sing over and over and over again. They were repeatable stories, easy to memorize and kids love that!
I haven't been impressed with a Pete picture book since Groovy Buttons. I still enjoy the Easy Readers, however.
Oh well, nothing lasts forever. -
In the last two days, I have read nine (yep 9) Pete the Cat books. These books are perfect for grands and great-grands to read to young children. The underlying value system seems to of some cool cats, 1960s-70s style. The color scheme fits in with the cool cat theme--mostly cool colors with warm undertones. The warm undertones are attractive.
This books shows cool dudes surfing on a warm weather day. They do not want the party to end. So Pete invites everyone over for a slumber party. But there is little slumbering. They entertain each other in the ways familiar to those of us who were children and very young adults in the 1960s and 70s. -
Another fun Pete the Cat book. Pete hosts a sleep- over with his friends and Pete really wants to go to sleep, but his friends have trouble settling down. Cute book which pleased the grandkids.
-
*Meh* and BLECH. Ever since the series was turned over to the illustrator, it has become ABSOLUTE DRECK. Haven't liked one of them since.
-
Another Pete the Cat book, this one will be best for those looking for books for Pajama Days or bedtime stories.
-
Another bedtime story session with my lovely nephew ^.^

Loved it

After a long day at the beach, Pete invites his friends to his place for a sleep over. This cool cat needs his rest, but his friends just don't seem sleepy. It takes Pete reading a bedtime story about his adventures to his friends before they are all ready to call it a night and go to sleep.
Loved it!
*Whispers Quietly* and as an adult, I am going to remember to have this be the last book of the night we read before bedtime. ;) -

My Review: We are big Pete the Cat fans and of course had to get this one. For some reason I really had a hard time finding Pete's jazzy personality in this one and couldn't get into the rhythm of the story like usual. With that said this is a fun book, especially as kids get a little older and start having sleepovers. What is the best way to settle down to a good night's sleep? Pete seems to have the answer. -
When Pete the cat and his other groovy friends spend a long fun day at the beach, they don't want the fun to stop, so Pete comes up with a super cool plan to have a sleepover with his closest pals, Alligator, Frog, and Gus. But as they all try to fall asleep after their long day, Pete the Cat keeps being awaken by one of his friends. Toad starts clapping, and then Gus starts to play the drums, and then Alligator starts to chomp on some pizza. Pete just wants to sleep, so he has the brilliant idea to read to his friends, and before you know it they are all asleep dreaming of a new day with more fun in the sun!
This is a pretty quick read for your class and a great way to introduce those different kinds of vocabulary such as groovy, and Jam and all those sorts of words. -
Pete the cat and his friends have the best day hanging out, and they don’t want it to end, so they decide to have a sleepover. The only problem is that none of Pete’s friends want to go to sleep. They make all kinds of noises until Pete finally decides that something has to change, so he reads them a bedtime story. Suddenly, it is quiet, and all of his friends have fallen asleep.
“Pete the Cat and the Bedtime Blues” is a fun story about friendship and roommates. It doesn’t have much of a deeper meaning, but it is very relatable. The artwork includes so many vibrant colors that it is fun to look at. I think this would be a cute book to read to students if you have a nap time during the school day to encourage a quiet time. -
Adorable, Fun Book
Pete the cat wants to get some sleep, but his friends are sleeping over after a fun day together and they keep making noise. Poor Pete has the bed time blues, and it gives him an idea... No, not making music instead of sleeping, though I'll admit I thought it may happen. He decides to help his friends get to sleep with a bedtime story - a cute nod toward this book's use as a bedtime story itself.
I like this book. It's cute, groovy, retro-styled, and fun. I would recommend it for children who love animals and who need bedtime stories to help them unwind at night. -
I think this children's book is one of the best! The series of Pete the Cat is always a good one for the children. In this book of the series, I find it interesting for the children. It will keep them wondering what Pete is going to do next to get some sleep. Also, the pictures in the book stand out and do a good job of explaining the words of the book so that the children can understand what is happening. The story also shows the children how to problem solve. This is by Pete strategizing a plan to get his pals to finally go to sleep.
-
Pete the Cat and his groovy companions make kids happy (though with the childlike illustrations and the difficult-but-there rhythm it may be hard for parents to understand why). This particular adventure will make parents happy because the hero wants to go to sleep at bedtime, and the toads and alligators and whatnot who don't want to go to sleep at bedtime are regarded as ungroovy.
Learn to groove well, kids. Go to sleep at bedtime like Pete the Cat. -
Pete the Cat is back, and this time, he finds out how difficult it is sometimes to get to sleep!
Not that Pete would ordinarily have a problem sleeping but -- he is having a sleepover and his friends want to do anything -- but sleep|!
Parents and caregivers, like myself, will appreciate the irony here!
I also loved how Pete, finally got his three friends, to finally "get some zzzzz's!"
Pete the Cat is one one cool kitty!
The girls simply loved the story; I did too! -
The colors are too saturated and the illustrations do not gorge your eyes upon seeing. It can actually tire you or make your head hurt: too much yellow and red. Nevertheless, the animals are expressive and the drawings serve its purpose, I suppose. Pete is cute and really the best drawn character. The story did not do the trick for me, which implies that I’ll drop any of the other books of the series.
