From the ashes of war, can an ember of love still burn?

The final chapter of this sweeping tale finds Josephine Wright Montgomery reeling from the devastation and loss around her. Stunned, she has never felt so helpless and alone. The life she has known is gone forever. Through her courage and strength, she is determined to hold onto Magnolia Bluff, but there is more working against her than the war raging.

US Navy Lieutenant Cullen Smythe has distinguished himself with his bravery and valor in the hard fought campaigns at New Orleans and Mobile. Time and battles have done little to expunge the demons that haunt him. Nevertheless when he receives news he has long feared, he has no choice. He follows his heart back to Josephine...but will it be too late?

The Sun Rises (Southern Legacy #4) Reviews

This series is a historical romance novel with many twists and turns, mysteries and adventures. You must read these in order, where one book ends the other begins. A wonderful series.

Josephine had two children that she dearly loved but was separated from them for a short time. She had been through things and seen things that people should never see or feel during a life time. Through Josephine's strength, determination, and strong will she finds happiness again. The wonderful author Jerri Hines have given us a closer look at the Civil War and how it affected our country and the lives of people during that era.

Thank you Ms Hines for an amazing series.

The Sun Rises is book four in the Southern Legacy series by Jerri Hines. This book culminates the series and is a great ending.
Josephine married Wade and gives him an heir. Is Percival his son or Cullen’s? Wade shows his love for Jo by accepting Percival as his son and no others. Jo now has a new person to love and protect. She is still adrift with a family that does not totally accept her and society which questions her as well. She also has a couple of enemies among the ladies, especially Andrew’s wife. Honor and Duty are her touchstones and her rules to live by.
Cullen is determined to protect his “son” Percival. He is convinced he is his and not Wade’s son. However, he is sent with his unit to the Western edges of the US to fight in the war. It does keep him and Wade from being in the same areas and fighting against each other. He wants his son to be taken to Philadelphia whether or not Jo decides to go with him. Can he persuade her?
Jo’s reputation takes another hit as it is rumored she is a Northern spy and as she kills her cousin Buck. Was it murder? Why is it rumored she is a spy? Who is doing the rumoring and why? Her life takes another crazy turn out of her control? Can she and her children survive?

    Adventure filled

This book is full of details as to what war was like, life displaced by it, and the forever love that binds family regardless of color or circumstances.

Would have been better as just one book....

I started off really liking it ,through most of book one, then by the end of it when I saw it was gonna have more twists and turns than an average week on General Hospital,I kinda lost my plot ;(
Started off LOVING Cullen and Jo and their passion for each other then got lost in anger when it seemed the series was gonna be as complicated as North and South ( the version w/Patrick Swayze) twists and turns I Never thought expected... There were time I honestly HATED Cullen and his bitterness and meanness and just plain cowardice , I once thought Wade the coward but Cullen definitely spent his time in that role... All and all I think it was a pretty good story but wasn't served at least to me for me in this serial format ,as a regular I think I would sung its praises overly complicated or not ,instead of getting hate on for it and only seeing how convoluted it felt at the time, while part me wants to sing the series praises and regret my review of book on,I can't and I won't,it was my honest review and feelings at the time,it was how book one let me feeling, and why I skipped books 2&3 and went straight to book 4.. I can see a lot of hard work went in to this series but I stand the feeling it all would been better served as just one nor book and NOT cut up like this.... What type or style would work best ? Haven't a clue just at least for me this is not it... Thanks

    Wow

War is hell. The families it destroys and lives lost seems to be an ocean with unending waves. Wade's legacy lives on while Cullen finishes his Naval commitment. Jo struggles through the hardest times in her life as many transitions threaten to consume her. Many twists and turns. Excellent writing and story telling. Jerri Hines is one of my new favorite authors.
