Little Blue Trucks Halloween Reviews

  • Jasmine from How Useful It Is

Read for my toddler's bedtime. Little Blue Truck and his friends dressed up for Halloween in different costumes. It's really cute. Loved the illustrations!

    Read from kindle unlimited.

I guess the moral of the story is don't try to read a lift-the-flaps book on a Kindle. Double tapping did not work (for me, anyway) to reveal the identity of the masked critter . . . though it wasn't too hard to make an educated guess.

There's not much of a story here, but Jill McElmurry's illustrations are adorable, so we'll let it be a four-star read.

Cute, non-scary Halloween book. My three year old loved the lift the flaps and guessing game.

Personally I’m not a fan of flap books but this was cute

Beep! Beep! Boo! Little Blue Truck is back just in time for Halloween. Little Blue Truck and his friend Toad are on their way to the barn for a Halloween party. While journeying to the barn, they encounter different farmyard animals in their Halloween costumes. When you lift the flap, the identity of the costumed animal is revealed. This book is recommended for families to enjoy together; children will enjoy guessing who each costumed animal is! Any fans of Little Blue Truck's other picture book adventures will find this book to be a delight.

after learning i’m 4 books behind on my reading goal, and the fact i’ve read this book at least 3 times a day for the past 9 months, i’m counting it, and i have a lot of thoughts.
    1. the pages must be laced with some sort of solvent that causes amnesia, because every time i see that stupid sheep wearing a black mask, i proudly say “it’s a cow!” before flipping the page and seeing the sheep obnoxiously Baaaa at me. and the real cow in the book is BROWN? talk about a red herring. Armstrong in And Then There We’re None 🤝🏼 Sheep in Little Blue Truck Halloween.
    2. because the author and illustrator pull us into this guessing game, we don’t even notice Little Blue and Toad sneaking off to get dressed for the party! all of a sudden this ghost shows up and we have no clue who it is. i’ve memorized every letter of this book forward and backward, know each animal and their costumes (not the sheep) and JUST noticed toad putting the sheet on little blue in the background. i feel like i’m in the matrix, i’ve been bamboozled, i feel like my parents are about to call me to tell me i was adopted.
    5/5

Little Blue Truck is always cute and engaging.

This was a cute book for toddlers. It showed what the barnyard animals dressed up as for Halloween. It is a flap book, so the child can guess who is wearing the costume.

  • Chrisanne

The lift the flap is a nice idea. The story itself is a bit flat. But I'm glad I am getting a break from the original. 🙂

We were at the store when I stumbled across Little Blue Truck's Halloween. Instantly, I knew we had to buy it for Emmett. It turns out that he loves the flaps on the pages. Just to be clear, this book is a hardcover book; however, it is not a traditional hardcover. It is more like a baby and toddler-friendly hardcover, except Emmett has already ruined the flaps because he played with it so much.

So, Blue and Toad are going to a party, and they start inviting others along for a ride. Throughout the book, it describes different animals' costumes. Then, it asks, "Under the mask who do you see?" Your child then lifts the flap, and it says something like "'Baaa!' says the sheep. 'It's me! It's me!'" After Blue picks up everyone and arrives at the party, Toad says that there is one more. Can you guess who it is? The sheet comes off, and there is Little Blue!

Overall, this book is well worth the money. Sure, I wish the flaps were a little more like Little Blue Truck's Springtime so they wouldn't get ruined as fast. However, Emmett loves this book, so that's all that matters. The illustrations for Little Blue Truck's Halloween as great. I especially love the party. Since the book pretty much follows an order, it is easy to memorize the pages. This is extremely important when your child keeps lifting the flap up and down, so you cannot actually see the text. Little Blue Truck's Halloween is a perfect addition to your young one's collection, especially near Halloween. "Beep! Beep! Boo!"

Didn't like this quite as well as some of the other Little Blue Truck books. The author went out of her way not to say what the friends were dressed up as. While I agree this broadens the potential audience for the book, I personally find too much PC annoying as hell. Why can't you say the pig is dressed as a witch or the hen dressed as a pirate?

Also, this is a lift the flap book readily destroyed by anyone under three years of age, worthless to those of us teach littles in a preschool setting. I borrowed a copy from the library and returned it promptly before the little angels got to work on it.

It's always nice to see a lift-the-flap book join a longstanding series. Right in time for Halloween, Little Blue Truck is making his way through the countryside with his friends, who each take turns dressing up. It's a fun, quick read that younger children will love. Beep, beep, boo!

  • Brenda

Very cute Little Blue Truck for Halloween. With flaps. The kids will love it.

  • Ashley

This lift-the-flap book follows Little Blue Truck as he picks up his friends to the Halloween party. They are all dressed up when he picks each up so the question is.. Under the mask, who do you see? (Baa says the Sheep, it's me, it's me!)

I love that this takes the kids through the farm animals because it reinforces the association between the farm animal and the sound that animal makes. Between the lift-the-flaps, the animal sounds, and their general love for Halloween, the kids love this so much that we hit the re-read maximum log on Goodreads (which is 25).

The small thing that bugs me is that the first flaps cover the text so the first read or two was frustrating because I had to have the kids put the flap back down in order for me to read it. The small thing that bugs the kids is that the last page doesn't follow the same pattern, so they request that I use the same phrasing there as the rest of the book.

This lift-the-flap book written in verse, brings Little Blue Truck and his friends together for a guessing game story. As Little Blue Truck drives down the road he sees each of his friends dressed in costume for a Halloween party. Young children will enjoy guessing each of the animals and lifting the flap to see if they are correct in their prediction. The book is printed on thick board book like pages with a sturdy front and back cover.

  • Chance Lee

I ordered this a little late for Halloween. Oops! Cute story with flaps that reveal which animal is in costume. Some of the animals look a little startled, which makes me feel like I tore their costumes off them like the Scooby gang unmasking a criminal. They would have gotten away with it were not for the pesky blue truck!

  • Vicki

I love Little Blue Truck books! This lift the flap book has the regular cast of character hiding behind the flaps and the readers have to guess who each of the Halloween dressed friend it is.

Repetitive rhyming and phrases make this a fun book to share with young ones.

    The illustrations are excellent.

  • Grace Bailey

Ooh, what a fun board book for Halloween! Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of flap books, but this one was executed well and added to the fun of the story. The rhyme is fun and there's a tiny bit of predictive text when unveiling the character. Would be a great book for Storytime (maybe paired with puppets?)

  • Dave Lester

Even though this is clearly inspired by Pixar's Cars series, the Little Blue Truck books are still a lot of fun. This one involves the blue truck rolling around his neighborhood and seeing what costumes his familiar friends are dressed up in. Has flaps that kids can open to see which characters are underneath the Halloween garb.

  • Rebecca Lee

My son adores the original Little Blue Truck book. This one doesn't quite compare with its lilting rhythm and message of community, but it's fun. The costumes and lift-the-flap reveals are great for little ones. With Halloween almost here, it's this week's favorite.

  • Leah

Love this series of books, as do my children. They particularly like this version since they enjoy the surprise of the animals dressing up! "Mommy, how did you know that that was the pig dressed as the witch?"

  • Rebecca Caufman

Cute lift the flap book with repetitive text and guessing who was in each costume. The readers before me must have really liked the book because a lot of the flaps were ripped off...which meant a lot of the words were missing.

  • Ad Astra

By far one of my daughter's favorite books. She loves making the animal noises and the repatition of the animals on each page is great. She's loved this book for almost an entire year now, and know it's good for a few more years to come.

Copyright 2016. Genre fiction, picture book. This book has flaps on each page to reveal a different animal under the costume. In the classroom I’d use this book to promote inclusion by relating the variety or animals at the party to our diverse classroom.

I liked this book because it is about Halloween, and I love Halloween. I will use this book as a part of one of my activities during this season.

  • Kri O'Kellas

Cute story of several different animals and a blue truck celebrating Halloween with lift-the-flap reveals to see who is hiding under each costume. Toddler enjoys making the animals sounds and looking at the costumes.
