Money can buy many things, but can it purchase a permanent solution to divorce?

Martin Cantrell would like to know the answer to that question. He has money, respect, and power, but he also has a monthly alimony payment that’s making him miserable. When a friend offers to deal with the “ex” problem for a fee, he can hardly say no. Time is of the essence. The life insurance policy on his ex-wife expires in less than two months.

Unaware of the plans set in motion, Special Agent Marcella Scott goes about her business as usual, only now, she finally has an excuse to dress up on the job. She’s been asked to go undercover to check out some banks. One of the branches just happens to be managed by Martin Cantrell’s ex-wife.

What’s an agent to do when a perfectly peaceful morning turns into a hostage-taking standoff?

This book was so much fun to read! I had never read any of the Lei Crime series and really wish I had! The story, while short, was able to hold my attention throughout. And the character development was spot on! The author was able to pack a lot into a small package.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

MeganScott has just been assigned to go undercover to watch out for a bank robbery. Martin Cantrell wants to permanently stop paying alimony. Seems a strange way for these two lives to intersect, but the bank that is being robbed is owned by Martin's ex. Megan is just trying to prove her worth as a Special Agent. She takes on this job with seriousness, and a little fun as she gets to dress up like she was rich. AS they are in the bank scoping it out, the robbery happens and everything you thought you knew, changes. I loved the twists in this book. They kept me on my toes. The suspense and excitement kept me listening until the end.

Liz Brand narrated this very well. Liz has an easy to listen to voice. She was able to keep all the character's voices distinct and easy to follow. Liz Brand enhanced the overall experience of this book through her narration.

Don't let the length of this book deter you! Julie C Gilbert has packed it full of excitement! Megan is an FBI agent and is going undercover. Things don't always go as planned, so when she gets caught in the middle of a bank robbery, quick decisions have to be made to save lives! I really enjoyed his quick listen. Gilbert has created a great story of deception and greed with a twist I did not see coming! Surprises like that make the story so much fun, I can't wait to hear the next installment of the Shadow Council! Liz Brand does a great job bringing it all to life, adding the surprise and shock value right in!

Couldn't finish, the story was just to stupid. Politician wants to get rid of his exwife who is a bank manager, his godson offers to help because he is a fixer,
the fixer involves the ex-couples son as the driver of the get away vehicle when they rob the bank to get the bank manager to go on sick leave so the fixer can kill her without getting the ex-husband into the radar of police......
why not just shoot her in the bank, bank robbery goes wrong ......???

Oh man, why you had to make the story more complicated and more unbelievable ?

Last time we met Marcella Scott she had gotten herself into quite a predicament just before she was leaving DC to transfer to Hawaii's FBI team so that her mother would be less likely to intervene in her career.

Apparently life in Hawaii has not slowed Marcella down. The novella starts out with her closing an embezzlement case and moves quickly to casing banks for a potential robbery, which occurs while she is there doing surveillance. And things move swiftly from there...

Although having caught two of the three individuals who were involved (one by injury and the other via a fast paced and twisting foot chase), the case is deemed closed and a success...or is it? Closed?

Underlying all of this is a separate, but related, plot line involving a rich and powerful man, an ex-wife, their two kids and a whole different set of issues that he wants addressed.

With Marcella's face all over the news due to the botched bank robbery that is part of the plan devised between the man and his nephew. Is she in danger? Will this all blow over? Or will she find herself in yet another fast paced situation alone again?

A fast-paced and fun novella with wonderful and detailed characters and plot lines that are strong and separate and miss no detail yet intermingle toward the end. There is no cliffhanger... But it is clear things are not quite "closed" on this case.

A wonderful addition to the Lei Crime Kkndle
World Series and a great novella by Julie Gilbert.

This is a great novella, featuring an entertaining story and a wonderful character from the Lei Crime World created by Toby Neal. In this second entry in her "Defining Moments" series, Ms. Gilbert puts Marcella Scott in the forefront of the action, which is pretty much non-stop from the word "go."

Amidst murder for hire, bank robberies, stake-outs and arrests, Marcella still manages to have a phone call with her mom, dinner with her partner and his family and an extended shopping spree with a gold-plated credit card. And we also get a glimpse into the lives of the victim's family and the perpetrator, all of who will never be the same after the events in "Money Makes it Deadlier." Their continuing story could actually spawn an additional novel, as their lives were very intriguing. There's a lot more going on in that family than we know.

There's also a lot packed into this novella and I would highly recommend you check out this story, as well as others in the Lei Crime World series. If I hadn't, I might never have come across this author, and that would have been the true crime.

One of those perfect additions to the Lei Crime Series by Toby Neal. This books is for one of my favorite characters, Marcella Scott. She's a badass FBI agent working on an undercover mission to find identity thieves and chaos ensues. If you're a follower of the series you'll know the past history of Scott and that she has an injury from a case she never discusses. The answers to that incident and how she met Marcus will be found in this quick but entertaining story. Multiple POVs give a broad narrative of the important characters and kept the pace quick. Thanks to Ms. Gilbert for my early copy so I could review.

It's been a while since I read the first novella in Gilbert's Defining Moments series, but it doesn't matter. This stands firmly on it's own.

The characters are strong and well defined and the setting is perfectly described. The action is very believable and kept me reading and wanting more. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

The author kindly gifted me a copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

*** A fun story with FBI agent Marcella Scott ***

Murder for hire, a stake-out, and that's just the beginning of the fun. FBI agent Marcella Scott is terrific in this novella while caught up in the middle of a bank robbery. The fun doesn't end there either.

Fans of Julie Gilbert's writing will enjoy MONEY MAKES IT DEADLIER, her second novella in the Lei Crime series.

What a GREAT Read! Marcella Scott FBI agent is caught in the middle of a bank robbery. It is a short story and part of the Lei Crime series. It grabs your attention from the very beginning and holds it all the way to the end. Very well written and the characters all intertwine with each other so well. I loved every minute of it and hated to see it end!

MONEY MAKES IT DEADLIER by Julie Gilbert in the LeinCrime series
Max was a fixer, by trade, would Martin use him, to get rid of his problems,
especially the one on the 10th. The policy ends in 2 months and he has no way of renewing. We meet Marcella the assignment to flush out the bank moles, they also found check forgery. A good plot, characters of Marcella and Matt were good. A good light mystery for all to enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
