Daniel Gets Scared: Ready-to-Read Pre-Level 1 (Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood) Reviews

Daniel and O are playing outside in the puddles, but get scared by the thunderstorm. Mom Tiger explains that when she gets scared, she imagines something happy and feels better.
Daniel imagines playing with his stuffed tiger, Tigey. O imagines reading books (so meta).
This is a good one. Lily loves to say "splash," and I'm pretty sure she started to understand the concept of "happy" from reading this book. -
Everyone gets a little scared sometimes and that's okay, we can use strategies to help us feel better.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors. -
Solid book about scary things and how to control how you feel about them. Mom Tiger teaches Daniel Tiger and O the Owl how best to overcome fears, especially the fear of loud, scary noises.

Brynnie didn't like the fact that the mom left the boys and they got scared again!

Easily my daughter's favorite book. We read it every night.

Some good advice for small friends in this book! If you're scared of something - in this case, a thunderstorm - think of something that makes you happy, and you'll feel a little less scared.
For the Very Little Ones, that will probably be enough. But from a parenting standpoint, it might take a little more explanation than "just think of something else," otherwise your small folks will only ever learn to control their fear without ever learning not to be afraid in the first place.
(Also, nothing will ever top Julie Andrews' version of this lesson with "My Favorite Things!") -
Daniel and his friend O the Owl are playing when suddenly, a storm moves in and it begins to thunder. The thunder scares Daniel and O. Daniel's mom reminds him that when he is scared, he should close his eyes and think of something that makes him happy. It does not completely take away his fear of the thunder, but it does help!
