Everyone seems to want Oliver dead.

Local playboy, Oliver Gibbons, turns up dead. And it seems most everyone has a motive for wanting him out of the picture. From the three blondes he promised to marry, to his partner in an illegal fishery, to his long lost cousins, Oliver's death seems like a satisfying option. But when Miss Vivee, the five-foot-nothing, ninety-something, Voodoo herbalist realizes one of the possible suspects is her daughter, she recruits Logan, the resident archaeology to help her find out the truth.

It's another fun, quirky and funny romp for Yasamee, Georgia's (not a real place) amateur sleuths.

Coastal Cottage Calamity (Logan Dickerson #2) Reviews

  • Monica **can't read fast enough**

    3 1/2 stars

I really enjoy Vandiver's writing and this quick cozy mystery went by so fast that I read it in one go and now I'm going to jump right into book 3. This did suffer from the same editing hiccups as the first, but they just aren't bad enough to take away from my enjoyment of the stories. I don't know why way more people aren't reading Abby Vandiver, but if you are a cozy mystery fan and are looking for a new author to try I highly recommend picking up one of her books. For this series, books 1-3 and 4-6 are also sold as bundles for a really good price for an ebook set.

Coastal Cottage Calamity is the second book in the Logan Dickerson mystery series and it was such a delight to reunite with Logan and the fabulous Miss Vivee. I enjoyed the detailed archeology references, the writing and plotline is excellent. Looking forward to enjoying the next boo in this wonderful cozy series.

"Maybe it was luck. Maybe it was fate. Maybe, fate with a little luck thrown in. But I couldn't have asked for anything more."

Coastal Cottage Calamity, book two of A Logan Dickerson Cozy Mystery by Abby L. Vandiver is just the escape I was looking for. In the sea of books, this one especially captured my interest and kept me interested from cover to cover. A suspenseful plot that had me guessing all the way through.

The writing is sharp and engaging. Surprising me as I read with great curiosity. This is an epic adventure that had Hollywood script written all over it. Smart and to the point. So many great moments that I wanted to stop and write them down for safe keeping.

There is more archeology in this book than I care to know but not so much that I have to skip it.

There is a big fight at the bed and breakfast…. 3 blondes are fighting over Oliver and he is not even there. Koryn can’t stand all this fight and how Oliver uses these women, she goes into a closet and screams!

Very soon after that, Oliver, the very rich playboy of the town is face down on the sandbank…. dead!

They are alerted to the fact by a scream by Coryn “signature scream”!

Miss Vivee takes one look and says he is poisoned.

This verdict leads to breaking and entering.

I like the way Logan tells the story. It is quite funny throughout the book.

Logan runs, ducks, weaves and tries to find a way to get into the house. She comes back to where Miss Vivee and Mac are waiting and admits defeat only to find out that Miss Vivee has a key! Logan is very upset but Miss Vivee says “You told us to wait here,” Miss Vivee looked at Mac who nodded. “You were quite stern about it.”

While searching for evidence, there are noises downstairs. They have to try to get away. Miss Vivee tells everyone to play statues to fool whoever downstairs….. Mac , her ever obedient not boyfriend, …. immediately struck a pose!

He also thinks, when he sees a blonde lady with brown roots, that it must be very difficult to color the roots with brown!

While investigating, Logan thinks Miss Vivee is the Empress Prevaricator….the talent that out surpassed every politician ever known to man. Miss Vivee in turns thinks Logan is a blabber mouth!

Great writing! Great cozy mystery! Very funny! I immediately start book number 3!

In Book 2 we return to the small town of Yasamee, GA and the antics of Miss Vivee, Mac and Logan. Local playboy Oliver Gibbons turns up dead and of course, according to Miss Vivee, only she can solve his murder.

I cannot get enough of Miss Vivee and her feisty attitude. She may be older but she will dang sure put you in your place and make you remember your manners. I was laughing so much while reading this one and can't believe I waited so long to jump back in. Dang life and having to be an adult 😂. Can't wait to continue on.

    Laughs & logic

This book started a little slow but as the plot unfolded so did the laughs! Ms Vandiver writes so well that I can see the expressions on the faces of her perfect characters as the calamities unfold! Several possible killers but in the end Logan & Miss Vivee put the clues together.

    Nicotine plot

Enjoy this book and the history lesson include. If you love cozy this series is for you. This series has great characters Logan, main characters trying the find her place , Miss Vivee, 90 - something Voodoo Herbalist , and great supporting cast of characters. The Georgia coastal is the location of the story.

    Tobacco health warning

Brilliant! Enough twists and turns to confuse the best sleuth. Is tobacco bad for your health? The characters are really coming to life in this second book. Okay it doesn't have any paranormal elements that I love but apart from that it is a brilliant read.

  • Rich Meyer

This one was a great disappointment. After laying out the groundwork for some interesting characters in the first book (which was also a bit of a letdown after the author Agatha Christie'd readers by having the killer not be one of the suspects), here she goes and does the EXACT SAME THING. That's just lame by any standard.

For some reason, every one of the characters came off as cardboard or only half-developed in this story - it's like it was written in haste and not repented at leisure; There are numerous, rather annoying, typos that provide evidence to this. This book needed one more look-see by a content editor and a proofreader.

I don't ask much from a mystery, especially a "cozy-type" mystery. Just a few hours of entertainment, some quirky characters, and a chance to guess whodunit. When the killer isn't one of the suspects you are given, you can't guess it.

You take that away from a mystery, and you ain't got much of anything.

  • Jeannie and Louis Rigod

This author certainly uses the most unique methods of murder available. This novel was true to that statement. Using a current and unique method to answer the mystery's question of 'How,' was only one element that made this book so enjoyable.

We are back at the Maypop Bed and Breakfast, in Yasamee, Georgia. In the first novel we are introduced to amateur sleuth, Logan Dickerson, who is a professional anthropologist/archeologist trying to do a 'dig' on a shoal nearby. In this novel she has been granted permission.

When she takes Ms. Vivee (Vivienne Pennywell) matriarch of the B & B, along with Ms. Vivee's boyfriend, Mac, both in their 90's,) they are all enjoying themselves at the dig. That is until...Oliver Gibbons body is found.

Now it is up to Ms. Vivee, Mac, and of course, Logan (she has the wheels,) to discover the 'Why' and 'Who' of this case. Especially as their loved ones are suspected.

This is a humorous tale but a truly good murder mystery as well. An enjoyable series.

  • Kay (Brigidsmomma) Compton

This is really a funny story. I am enjoying this series as Miss Vivee is a real riot. for a 90+ year old woman, she really can get into a lot of trouble, and she always drags Logan along with her. THis series makes Evanovich's Stephanie Plum seem tame by comparison... Just read it, Okay? If you can stop laughing long enough to finish it...

  • Marie Shirley Griffin

    Fun characters, great dialogue

    Marie's Read

I enjoy these mysteries, mostly because of the dialogue. It's spot on for that part of the country.

Logan, Miss Vivee and Mac make a fun group of "sleuths".

I recommend that the books be read in order - at least the first two, otherwise confusion is bound to be an issue.

Coastal Cottage Calamity-Yepee, another great murder mystery!

This story has our girl involved in another great murder mystery. This one winds around and around, but comes out with another surprise ending I didn't see coming! Just loved it and so will you!

  • Kathy Kirkland

Another delightful addition to this cozy mystery series! Very well written and very fast paced as well as filled with plenty of twists and red herrings to keep you guessing whodunit right up to the very end of the story.

  • Barbara Hansen

    New series. pretty good.

  • Chris

I love the main character, and the story was cohesive, but man, could really use a good edit. I tracked close to 30 mistakes, and probably missed plenty.
