Clean air is essential for all living creatures—plants, animals, and people—to live healthy lives. Every Breath We Take is a positive, life-affirming look at clean air, with a subtle message about how air can be dirtied—and how it can be cleaned up.

Photographs of beautiful children around the world exploring air through touch, smell, sound, and sight underscore the importance of clean air to all life on earth. This is science that surrounds us.

The first step to cherishing something is recognizing its importance and understanding why it is necessary.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to Moms Clean Air Force, a national movement of over a half million moms, dads, and grandparents who are protecting the right of every child to breathe clean air.

Every Breath We Take: A Book About Air Reviews

This book is full of beautiful colored photos of the world. It teaches children about the air and how it is necessary for all life. It talks about air getting dirty which then causes the world to become sick. It also touches on how to help keep the air clean such as walking places, turning off lights, using wind powered energy. It is a subtle message but it is clear and is a nice way to present it without hitting anyone over the head with it. The back of the book has other information for adults, not geared to children. I only wish the book talked a little more about the issues at the back during the main part of the book such as Green House Effect.

I would recommend this book to be in primary classrooms and school libraries.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Very well written. Lots of potential for use in the classroom as part of a rigorous unit of study. Read aloud to PreK-1st grade students and pose questions for small groups to discuss. Let a small group of second grade students read to each other and then discuss, “Why is clean air important? What in the text makes you think so? What is your response to that?” Read aloud to 3rd-4th grade students to launch an inquiry—use information on specific pages in the book (including the last two that have more details) to help students generate their own questions. Use as a mentor for writing, for thinking about author’s point of view and how to convey that in their own writing. Lots, lots, lots of ways to use.

This would be a good book to read for children who are interested in learning more information about air. This book provides an overview of basic information regarding air. I did appreciate the additional information in the back of the book, stating questions and providing the answer. I believe this gives further insight into what air is, what air does and how air is effected.

Beautiful photographs accompany brief statements about the air we breathe, the air we ALL need. The author compares air to love, invisible but a necessity for life, and this makes this book compelling and critical.
