Although expecting to be excited by finally getting a bedroom all to herself, young Poinsettia is nervous being on her own as she listens to all the creaks and bangs by herself, but her inability to sleep becomes a blessing in disguise when she sees flames coming from a building and calls the firefighters to the rescue just in the nick of time!

too hard for a two year old and possibly scary

Asher enjoyed this book so much when I checked it out from the library, that when I saw it at the thrift store, I snatched it up for him.

It's a cute story about a little girl pig who's in her own room for the very first time and how she deals with all the scary sounds. Since she's awake so late, she happens to witness a telephone pole catch on fire and wakes up her family to call the fire department.

Really fun illustrations by Felicia Bond of the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" fame.

An emergent reader written and illustrated by one of my favorite illustrators, Felicia Bond. The story focuses on a little pig names Poinsettia and her move to a new room in the house. Poinsettia is thrilled about her new room until it gets dark, unable to sleep she hears lots of spooky noises. Luckily she is awake to spot a fire across the street. Her mother calls the fire department and Poinsettia realizes she is not the only one awake that night. So is the night watchman at the fire station.

This was a nice book of a little girl, Poinsettia. She just moved into her own room and is frightened by things that go bump in the night. Something happens while everyone is asleep and she is the only little piggy awake in her whole house. She spots a fire and saves the day (the night, rather) when she informs her parents who calls the firefighters. Great on learning what to do in case of a fire.

Sometimes the sound of fire engines can be scary for children. They may be afraid of situations when there is a fire. This book shows children how important it is to be safe and aware. It also helps them understand the importance of emergency procedures.

    Extension
Every child care center has emergency procedures and drills. Before practicing a fire drill read this book to children and discuss what is to be done in case of a fire. This will help children stay calm and follow directiond.

This book is adorable, of course, but the story is inappropriate for young listeners, and dull for older readers or listeners.
