The Queen B* and the Homecoming King (The Queen B*, #3) Reviews

  • Carrie

The Queen B* and the Homecoming King by Crista McHugh is the third book in the young adult contemporary romance The Queen B* series. Just like the second book of the series the third picks up right after where the story had left off so it is definitely best to read from book one in order.

This series is about Alexis Wyndham who is a high school senior who has overwhelmingly earned her title of the Queen B* in her school. Maybe most wouldn’t be proud of this title but Alexis owns it and actually strives to earn it. You see, Alexis was hurt in the past so being the Queen B* allows her to control those that get close to her and keep the others in fear of what she will do to them if they cross her path.

One person in the school Alexis never saw herself becoming friends with was Brett, the captain and star of the football team. However, when the health teacher informs them of a project coupling up and caring for a digital infant doll together Alexis manages to end up with Brett as a partner. When Brett shocks Alexis one time after another as they get to know each other she begins to rethink her image of him.

Now that I’ve come to the third book of the series I was expecting some dating and more interaction between Alexis and Brett than ever but that ended up being my one disappointment. There was a lot going on in the story but it was mostly the surrounding characters instead of the couple so I was left with a feeling of wanting more from them together. I still think it was a cute YA contemporary with fun characters all around so I’m happy to finally get to these.

This book was a great ending to the series and I adored Alexis and Brett together and how well their relationship developed.
both grew up quite a bit and I liked that both of them had to step out of their comfort zone to do that

there was one thing which really really distroyed a bit of my enjoyment of this book and that was the - for me - loose way of using rape in such a book and how it was handled.

a very good ending to this series and although I am sad that it is ending, I very much enjoyed the adventure

The Queen B* and the Homecoming King

    Book Description

The Queen B*, Alexis Wyndham, has only three rules when it comes to dating the star quarterback, Brett Pederson:
    1. No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.
    2. No public displays of affection while at Eastline High.
    3. And absolutely, under no circumstances, will she ever go to the Homecoming dance.
But as her life is completely upended time and time again, she begins to wonder if some rules are meant to be broken.

Alexis Wyndham has a boyfriend, something she never thought would happen anytime soon and especially not with the schools star quarterback.

Brett Pederson has a girlfriend. She a queen b* and is feared by everyone in school but not by Brett. He slithered his way under her armour and found the girl he knew was underneath, his girl.

When she begins dating Brett she sets rules, rules that are easily broken by both sides and Alexis slowly begins to realise she doesn't mind.

When a bone crushing incident happens to Brett everything changes. He pushes away the people he loves whilst sunken into his pity party but Alexis won't stand for it and calls him out. Will his standoff ways push Alexis away for good? Or can Alexis kick some sense back into him?

The Queen B* And The Homecoming King is part three in The Queen B* series, you MUST read the first two books before starting on this one.

Alexis and Brett's relationship has become a lot stronger in book three. They're happy, cheerful and thankful to be by each other's sides. They've come to an understanding that they don't need to be around each other 24/7 and it was quite refreshing.

This book focuses on the lead up to the homecoming game and cruel way that reality hits people. The pain, heartbreak and sadness they feel is emotional, YOU feel for them.

I've absolutely enjoyed reading this series, it's fun, light and beautifully written.
Crista McHugh did a great job with this series and I sincerely hope there's more to come in the future.

There’s a lot going on in this third instalment, but very little of it is to do with the main couple.
Now Alexis and Brett have decided to try being a couple, there’s a lot of things getting in their way. Peripheral characters move to the fore, perhaps in an attempt to flesh out their lives a little, but it meant very little attention was focused on the two characters we’re most invested in.
This time round we have a potentially career-ending injury; the aftermath of date rape; a pregnancy; homophobic hate crime and then we have Alexis and Brett trying to navigate their way through the high school experience and their first steps of the relationship.
The story flies through the events unfolding in front of us, and a lot of things are resolved very easily. Things end on a positive note for our couple, but it didn’t feel all that satisfying.

This is the third and final instalment in The Queen B* series and I'm sad to say that it disappointed me a little. This series is about a girl named Alexis, and how she has earned herself a position in the school that has her respected but also feared. Alexis has a blog, which she uses to expose people, often in school who do terrible things, and this isn't just exclusive to the students, she exposes many adults over time too. She is hardcore and shows very little feelings except towards her closest friends, that is until she works with a guy called Brett on a school project back in the first book.

I am unable to discuss much about the plot of this book as it would possibly spoil people for the first two books, so I will keep this brief. I flew through the first two books and gave them both five stars each. I found this instalment slightly disappointing because I suddenly found Alexis to be too immature and whiney. This is a YA contemporary novel, so I was all set for a little teen angst, as there had been in the previous two novels, which for the record didn't bother me at all. This book on the other hand, just made me want to throw my Kindle out of the window at times. I couldn't handle all the obviously unnecessary doubt that was forever spinning through her mind. I couldn't stand how she seemed to throw a childish paddy at her mum after receiving some news that she personally didn't like. All in all, Alexis as a character really annoyed me in this novel.

The redeeming quality in this novel was just how well the affects of rape and attempted rape were handled. I thought the author did a great job of portraying this subject in a way where characters dealt with it in an equally realistic way.

I also loved how Richard, who is Alexis' best male friend and is gay, had more of a part in this novel. We got to know him more, and also learned of the troubles he faced as a gay guy who had come out to almost everyone, but still had a few problems. We witnessed Richard get bullied for his sexuality in this novel and I think that again, the author handled this subject in a fantastic way.

Therefore, all in all, I am glad I read this book so that I could get some closure on the trilogy and the characters and I enjoyed the plot very much. I just could have done with a lot less teen angst in this final instalment, but maybe that's just me and my old age?

You don't know how long I've waited to see Brent and Alexis finally be together. So when I started this book I was beyond excited!

I love that Alexis' character continue to evolve. I just wasn't a fan of Brent still being too perfect. A little character development for him would have been nice. But him being almost perfect didn't leave any room for that. With that being said though, I am even more IN LOVE with Brent and Alexis. I love the sweet and toe-curling moments between these two. And the banter! They throw it at each other like nobody's business.

I love this book. I do. It's just that compared to the first two, I found this one a bit disappointing. First of all, what was that with Morgan being kind of a b*tch? She and Alexis are bestfriends. BESTFRIENDS. And it was so easy for Morgan to believe some guy over Alexis. I will NOT call that friendship. Where's the trust and loyalty?!?
Secondly, know that this whole series highlights the drama and complexities of being a young adult but I found myself eye-rolling quite a lot.
And, I didn't see the point of Alexis' mom getting pregnant. It seemed like another drama just thrown in the story just because.

I love that Crista continue to perfectly capture the highs and lows of being a teenager. I have been a huge follower of this series from the beginning and I'm quite disappointed at being disappointed with this last installment (at least I think it's the last). But on the bright side, Alexis and Brent still make my heart race and are still the cutest (and most intense) couple ever! And I love that Richard was given more focus in this book. He's such an amazing character I wouldn't be surprised if Crista decided to give him his own book.

Overall, this is a great ending to an amazing trilogy. I may not love it as much as the first two but if you're a big fan of the series, this is definitely an ending you wouldn't want to miss!

I received an e-arc to read and review.

    My Rating:
    4.5
    Favorite Quotes:

“For all his virtues, Brett was still a seventeen-year- old guy. Or, as he’d once put it, a guy with two heads but only enough blood to operate one at a time.”

“Something had to be seriously off in her self-absorbed universe for her to evoke some semblance of politeness.”

“She turned away and practically ran back to the building as though she’d lose popularity points by hanging out with me any longer.”

    My Review:

I keep surprising myself by finding this YA series so enjoyable, although I am growing increasingly restless and impatient to complete the story. I typically don’t do well with series, but for some reason I periodically and irrationally attempt one. I never thought I would ever see the day I would admit that I am hopelessly addicted to a teen drama – don’t judge – yet I am anxiously looking forward to the next installment. I am greatly enjoying the evolution of all the characters, even the ones I didn’t expect to like. Brett is definitely smoothing out the rough edges of the Queen B*.

I loved it! I love coming back to Lexi and Brett, they're my favorite couple by far. After finally getting together in the end of the last book, I was very excited to start reading this one because we would finally get to see Lexi and Brett be a couple, but of course Lexi had to give a few conditions/rules:

    1. No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.
    2. No public displays of affection while at Eastline High.
    3. And absolutely, under no circumstances, will she ever go to the Homecoming dance.

And this complicates things a bit because Brett and Lexi obviously want to be affectionate but Lexi is scared of what could happen to Brett and her reputation and the fact that Brett wants to take her to the Homecoming Dance and very persistent about it. Of course, the story isn't just centered around romance, there's a lot of other stuff happening. Morgan suddenly hates Lexi and wants nothing to do with her, and her sudden change from best friend has something to do with Gavin, Richard tries out for the debate team but also gets threatening derogatory notes about him being gay, Brett gets hurt near the end of the book and everything about his career and college comes crashing down around him, but of course with the The Queen B* Lexi there, she does everything in her power to help her friends and boyfriend. Oh and not to forget the fact that Lexi tries to be friendlier to Brett's friends, especially Sanchez and in the end realized that they might not be so bad (you know, to an extent).

Well, I'm not gonna lie and say that the drama wasn't a little too much and had me rolling my eyes at Morgan's tantrums, but I admit that everything that happened for a reason. Like in The Queen B* Strikes Back, there is one sensitive topic that gets discussed: rape and also sexual assault. I won't go into too much detail because I wouldn't want to ruin what happened, but it's one of the more serious things that happen in the book. Another thing that happened was Brett getting hurt and not being able to play football anymore. It meant a lot to him as a person and now that he didn't have it in his life, he became moody and cold. Lexi didn't know how to get him out of his funk but with a little tough love and opening his eyes, we get our Brett back just in time for Lexi to decide to do away with her rules and give in to being happy with Brett.

Oh and not to mention all those cute scenes between Lexi and Brett, they were my favorite! I couldn't enough of them kissing and being cute together, I really look forward to reading more about them in the future and seeing if they go to Prom (it is their senior year!) and what will happen to Brett and his college options after his injury, and the general "What is Lexi going to be up to?" that has me anxiously for the next book.

Unfortunately the next book might come out for a while, a few years possibly, since at the end of the book there was a letter to the readers by Crista McHugh, the author, stating:
"Thank you so much for coming along on this journey with Alexis and Brett. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope to visit Eastline High again in the future, but right now, I’m focusing on some new projects."
so we might not get a 4th book until she finishes her other projects (who knows it could be a year, or two or three.) Either way I love this series and I look forward to reading more on Lexi, Brett, and the rest of the Eastline High crew when that time comes.

Note: This ARC was provided by Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

The Queen B* and the Homecoming King is the third book in bestselling author Crista McHugh's young adult (YA) series entitled The Queen B*. Here we have Alexis Wyndham and Brett Pederson finally (!!!) taking their unexpected friendship slash flirtation to the next level by agreeing to be in a relationship. The idea of Eastline High's very own Queen B* and the guy most likely to become the next Homecoming King becoming a couple may raise more than a few eyebrows, but this was a pairing that was a long time (two books long) coming. Alexis is snarky and makes it her life's mission to put people in their place, and Brett is easygoing and takes things as they come, without trying to actively rock the boat. They're able to balance each other out and they somehow enable the other to see whatever situation from a different perspective.

Here, we see how Alexis and Brett make the transition into girlfriend-boyfriend, and how those around them react to the coupling. Then there are situations involving Alexis's two best friends, Richard Wang--who is trying to get on the debate team and is dealing with a hater leaving nasty notes--and Morgan Kurlander--who is pissed upon hearing that Alexis went out with the guy she had slept with previously. The mystery part of the story is centered on finding out who's been leaving homophobic and derogatory notes in his locker, which wasn't too difficult although there's definitely more than one potential suspect. I love how Alexis and Brett aren't just a couple in a committed relationship but still have their sleuthing skills intact, proving that these two really do work together when it comes to battling Eastline High crime.

This is supposed to be the end to the series, but I find myself wanting more time with not just Alexis and Brett, but also Richard and even Taylor, who has grown on me. The school year isn't over, so there's no harm in hoping that maybe there's still potential for the series to continue. Heck, a lot can happen since it's their senior year, i.e. the prom, SATs, graduation, prepping for college applications, etc. Yes, this is me refusing to let go, but if this is, indeed, the end of the series, I like that it ended on a positive and sweet note. After all, Brett and Alexis are still young and a happily-for-now is far more realistic than a happily-ever-after. I've enjoyed the series and this third book had that snarky sweetness that has become the hallmark of The Queen B* books. I'm giving The Queen B* and the Homecoming King 4.5 stars out of five. ♥

Sayang banget bagian endingnya justru terasa terburu-buru.

The Queen B* is back and ready for her close-up!!

Or maybe not totally ready to be in the spotlight, aka Prom date, aka ‘girlfriend’ to probable Homecoming King/Quarterback Star Brett Pederson.
Alexis Wyndham is growing up in this part 3 of the Queen B* series. In fact all of the characters have grown up since the initial book ‘Confessions of a Queen B*’. Book 3 takes place the very next day after an emotional finish to Book 2. Alexis, the self-proclaimed ‘protector of the weak and bullied’ of her high school, is loosening some of the bands around her heart and is letting in a boyfriend…publicly. She’s ready to show the students at her high school that she will proudly wear Brett’s jersey on game days however she’s not quite ready to try and pretend to be friendly with his football buddies or be his prom date, lol. Change is definitely a challenge for her and this book is full of nothing but changes.
Alexis has always been a complicated character and that is what I’ve appreciated about this series from the beginning. It is so easy to set yourself in a certain role, whether it is ‘Queen B*’, token gay guy, football hero, b*&tchy cheerleader and so on, but what do you do when the role you set for yourself no longer defines who you are?? Alexis is afraid that any breaks from her current status as the spy of her high school and Queen B* will make her weak and open her back up to the hurt of ridicule, but she is growing up and who she was when she started high school is not the person she is today. It’s a pretty cool realization but definitely a scary one and we see Alexis make decisions, good and bad, as she tries to adapt to her new self. There are definitely some funny situations that pop up, too. (Mom and boyfriend on a couch…tmi)
Alexis isn’t the only one changing, her best buddies, Richard and Morgan are going through some interesting times as well. Richard who is probably one of the strongest characters in the series will have to overcome personal threats and discrimination in order to see if he can manage a spot on the debate team. Morgan, who could probably have a book of her own, will have her own ‘come to Jesus meeting’ about herself…which is good to see. Brett is awesome and so fun to follow! He definitely has a defining moment in this book, too! (I can’t give anything more without spoilers)
‘Queen B* and the Homecoming King’ wraps up this series as a fun read. I hope it’s not the end and Crista McHugh definitely leaves room if she wants to continue their story. I read this through for fun the first time, but it’s even better reading through the second as I really started thinking about the characters. It’s been a while since I was in high school but I don’t think anyone truly forgets what it can be like and whether you were more like an Alexis or Brett (or other), this series definitely had memories coming back to me. Truly enjoyable read!! I don’t recommend reading this as a standalone as I think you need to at least read book 2, ‘Queen B* Strikes Back’ beforehand (and if you do that you really should go ahead and read the first book!!)
I did receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have adored this series from the first pages of book 1. It is a silly, funny, romantic series, with some hard life lessons mixed in. The characters were maybe a little over-the-top, but also believable. The plot was silly, but wonderful in so many ways. Christa McHugh is an author I know I will be looking out for, just waiting until her next series hits the shelves!

In round 3, the final round, Lexi has finally given in to Brett and they are an official couple... with rules. The rules are meant to protect them both, and help Lexi ease into being the girlfriend of the most popular boy in school. But rules are made to be broken, and by the end of the story, rules are made to be thrown out the dang window! Brett and Lexi were just as cute and funny as they have been from the beginning. They have both grown tremendously, thanks to one another, but they are who they are. It is a nice lesson, that you can become a better version of yourself without changing who you are at the core. But when something unexpected and possibly life-changing occurs, will they be able to hold on to each other?

And who Lexi is a person who stands up for the people who can't always stand up for themselves. In this round, the person being bullied is one of her best friends Richard. Little notes are being left in his locker, and Lexi is determined to get to the bottom of it, Lexi 2.0 style! Richard is still Richard. Adorable and dorky and quirky. BFF #2 is here too, but not as much. Because of what happened at the end of book 2, Morgan isn't speaking to Lexi. no matter how hard Lexi tries. Finally a truce is called, but the truth is heartbreaking. Thankfully, they all have each other.

I genuinely adore this series, mostly because of the amazing characters. But the deeper than first glance plots, the quick pacing and the writing only add to the adoration. This series is smart and fun, and I am so glad that I took a chance on it. Goes to show that stepping outside of your comfort zone can be a pretty awesome thing. SO, I said all of that to say this... Go and grab a copy of the first book and give it a whirl! I think you might just like it!

This YA series continues where The Queen B* Strikes Back ended. Alexis and Brett are officially (or unofficially) dating. She has all these rules to keep their reputations intact at school. No PDA, no hanging out at school, no attending homecoming together, etc. Although their relationship seems to be going great, little crises keep popping up with friends, parents and more. Will they be able to overcome these challenges or are they doomed from the start?

“‘Think about it,’ he murmured before brushing his lips against mine once more.

I answered with a sigh. As much as I wanted to make him happy, I knew better. He’d want to hang out with his friends, and I didn’t belong there, not after I’d called out so many of them on my blog. I’d even managed to get three of his friends suspended last week. Awkward silence would be the best outcome of the evening. The worst would be them dissing him for dating me. Hence, why I instituted the rules. They weren’t just to protect me. They were also to protect him.”

I enjoyed the third book in this YA series where Alexis and Brett try being in a relationship. Alexis has instituted all of these rules to keep their worlds from colliding but it becomes maddening when it almost seems like she’s pushing Brett away. The guy must have the patience of a saint. I do love that Alexis still champions for the underdogs and learns to compromise with Brett’s friends. This story has good lessons about being less judgmental and learning how to readjust your goals when life throws you a curve. I really think it’s a great story for teens.

If you enjoy this genre, I can definitely recommend this series for YA. It can be funny and quirky with a bit of angst thrown in. I’m sure there is more coming with this gang as they head toward graduation.

    Actual rating: 4.1
My thoughts: It was better than I’d expected. After reading the second book, I guess I didn’t have too high expectations, so I was happily surprised. It wasn’t as good as the first book, but it was close.
Alexis goes through some major character development throughout this series, and especially this book. At first, she seems pretty hesitant about officially dating Brett, she sets up a bunch of rules about their relationship, like no PDA. She refuses to hang out with him if he’s with his friends.
But throughout the book, she changes a lot. She’s not the same person at the end of this book as she was in the beginning of the series, and you know how much I love character development. It was also interesting to read about her change. It didn’t happen overnight, but it happened throughout three books. It took time, and that’s part of why I loved it so much. Character development can be great, if used correctly. If it happens overnight, it’s not believable, because no one can go through such a change in a day, or even a few days. It takes time.
The plot was a little slow at the beginning, but when things started happening, it felt like everything happened at once, and it felt like it was a little too quick, like maybe the ending could’ve been a little later or something.
And there was a mystery again! Yay! Sure, it wasn’t as good as the one in Confessions of a Queen B*, and it was so predictable, but it was still nice after the boring plot in The Queen B* Strikes Back. This time, though, it’s Alexis’s friend, Richard, who is targeted because he’s gay, and Alexis has to find whoever is responsible and put it on her blog, The Eastline Spy.
To sum it up, it was a fun and interesting read, and, although a little quick, definitely worth reading.

YAY! It is finally here! But now I don’t want it to end. LOVE
LOVE LOVE this series. The characters are young but the story is
very mature. This picks us up where we left off as the official
title is placed on the relationship. Once again you fall in love
with our Queen B and her King. I had kind of hoped this one
was more about Taylor. Really for two reasons I wanted to see
Tayor’s growth and selfishly I wanted to keep our happy couple
in their happy bubble. But no, alas more drama for our Queen. I
really hated the Ok lets shift to the drama at Eastline, this has it all, Hate Crimes,
Sex Crimes, coverups, pregnancy (not giving away who). It has
you flipping and reading as fast as you could just to see what
came next. I really hope this isn’t the end.
Dear Ms. Crista McHugh here is my wishlist:
    1. I want to see Brett & Alexis College choices
    2. I want to see what they become
    3. I want to see who Summer Becomes
    4. I want to see how awesome our token Gay guy turns out
    5. I want to see if Taylor successful maneuvers HS politics
    6. I want to see how the new Baby affects the lives around him/her
    7. I want to see Alexis grow attached to the twins even more
    8. I want to see who ends up with Sanchez
    Thanks in Advance :)
So if you really want this in perspective, this book is how I woul
consider one of our Kristen Ashley Rock Chicks to have started
out…Sassy, smart and beautiful all in one big loyal package.
    LOVE LOVE LOVE this series.

I used my personal copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads

    5 coming-of-age stars.

Young Adult age-range: 13+. Parental discretion due to a handful of profanity/hate speech (realistically shown) Kissing. Heavy subject matter dealing with assault/bullying.

Alexis is transforming before the reader's eyes. Turning from a hard young woman who refuses to compromise, to the version of herself Brett brings out- compassion and empathy. The ability to see a situation from more than just her perspective. She is learning how justice may be blind, but it's blinding her to everything outside of herself.

The truth may be black and white, but the emotions are hidden in the shades of gray. No longer closed off, Alexis is feeling more about everything and everyone in her life, learning how to compromise.

Brett isn't at the forefront of this installment, as through Alexis we see where their friends and family's lives are headed as well. Comfortable in their place in one another's life, Alexis is no longer fighting Brett's pull. She takes up a supportive role in her boyfriend's life, showing she is more than a protector and pessimist.

The characters are flawed but teeming with realistic human emotion. Heavy subject matter is explored in this novel and the previous one, done so in a manner in which it is realistic for target age group- scary things which happen to teens everyday, showing how resilient and strong they can be when faced with these situations. This may be a guide and comfort to those who may have experienced the same.

After reading all three books in a singular sitting, I am pleased overall and left wanting more. I look forward to reading more by this author, and highly recommend to young adults and their more mature counterparts. We adults need to feel that spark of warmth only a budding crush can bring on.

This is book 3 in The Queen B* Series. You will need to read the first two books in the series. As they start where the last one ended.

This book picks up exactly where The Queen B* Strikes back ends...with Alexis agreeing to be Bretts Girlfriend.

Alexis set up 3 simples rules for the relationship.
    1. No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.
    2. No public displays of affection while at Eastline High.
    3. And absolutely, under no circumstances, will she ever go to the Homecoming dance.

Brett keeps breaking rule number 2. No PDA and Alexis is having trouble sticking to them as well.

Its so hard to write this review with out spoilers. I can say this is my favorite book in the series but I have loved all them.

Alexis and Brett are two of my favorite characters. They have grown so much in the 3 books, they have had their ups and downs.

Things at home for Alexis are changing and she is not coping very well. Her best friend is pissed off at her and wont hear her out. She is struggling.

Brett is preparing for the biggest game of the season.

Will they win the game? Will Alexis and Morgans friendship end or will they find away back?

This book deals with bullying just like the others but it goes farther to hate crime. How will the characters in this story deal with everything going on?

One Click this one when it releases! This series is a must read for any age.

    Queen B* Book 3

I was disappointed with the book. It wasn't as fun as the other 2 books. Drew was barely in the book. When he was, it seemed like an afterthought. His injury was written semi-well. His doubt as to why Lexie was with him after his injury rang true. He sulked entirely too long in my opinion.

Lexie was hard to take at some points in this book. She is not sweet. Her doubts about herself rang true. It's why I like her, along with the frizzy hair. I have curly hair too. She is self-absorbed throughout most of this book especially about Morgan. Richard didn't talk to Morgan until late in the book. Lexie should have. She worried about their friendship but didn't act.

Richard's story seemed non-personal. Bullying is a real world crime, but it did not feel authentic to the story. His dating life was more a concern than dealing with the vandalism and hate he was experiencing. I liked the debate club story, but it took too much away from Drew and Lexie's story.

Morgan's story WAS an afterthought completely. No talk of counseling or anything else after her rape, it was simply a plot point to get Morgan and Lexie back together as friends.

Lexie and Taylor's mom finding out she was pregnant was an odd choice also. What point did it serve?

I absolutely get life is about hardships. What I loved about the first two books was the fact it was interspersed with moments of joy, doubt, insecurity, laughter, snark and warmth. I felt no warmth in this book. What a shame.

    3.5 Stars!

So if you've been following this series, you've made it to the end of Crista Mchugh's The Queen B* Series. And with a seamless finish, McHugh leaves no questions unanswered or stone unturned when it comes to the status of The Queen B* and The Homecoming King.

Setting up rules is a condition that Alexis makes, to ensure the possible longevity of a relationship with Brett. But as Brett and Alexis focus on what they have going on the rest of the world continues to fire off an explosion of fireworks. Reminding the pair that there is so much more to consider and endure when being The Queen B*, The Homecoming King and more importantly, being together.

With memorable secondary characters, Eastline High displays an array of personalities, issues and experiences. And as each high school moment passes by both Alexis and Brett realise the individual growth needed in order to remain together.

The Queen B* and The Homecoming King is not only about Alexis and Brett. It continues to hold the status of the series as an empathetic recount of the highs and the lows of being a young adult. Including the majority of high school experiences, Crista has created honest and flawed characters that remain true to the adolescent experience. Being truthful to themselves and allowing for compromise and the understanding of the essence of respect; Alexis and Brett will have readers content, excited and proud of their senior year and the adults they will become.

“My lonely ache intensified every hour we were apart. I missed him. But hopefully, all that would end tomorrow.”

4 b@tcy stars!! This series is funny and absolutely entertaining, which I love!! Each one is so funny and unique with the storyline. What’s not to love

Brett and Alexis are back in this fun story of love. Alexis is ready to take her and Brett’s relationship to the next level…..boyfriend and girlfriend. But Alexis has three simple relationship rules.

No obligations to spend every waking moment together
No public displays of emotions while at school
She absolutely refuses to attend homecoming

But Brett is having a hard time refraining from rule number two and quite frankly so is Alexis. I won’t give anymore away, exxcept to say that they are each thrown curveballs that could put their relationship at risk. Will the high school power couple make it through the mess??

I really like this series, it’s quirky, fun and so unique!! You fall for Alexis and Brett and their cute love story. I recommend reading the first two books in the series before reading this one! I’m excited to read more!

This is the third book in the Queen B* series and by far my favorite. The first two books have been setting up the relationship between Alexis and Brett and now we get to see how that is going to work out. There was some angst (they are teenagers – angst is a requirement!), there were some laughs, and I really loved watching friendships be tested, new friendships being formed, and seeing Brett have a bad day (or two).

I loved watching most all of the characters evolve – from Lexi being more compassionate, to Brett having his not so perfect moments, to so many of the secondary characters showing different sides to themselves. Once again I just loved Alexis’s friend Richard and enjoyed getting to see more of him in this book. The bit of drama surrounding Richard gave him a nice feature in this story.

There were many story lines going on and at times it got to be a bit overwhelming trying to keep up with everything that was going on. On one hand it created that perfect storm for Lexi, but on the other hand I wish some of the story lines were further developed…and I’m hoping that will be the case in the next book!

As with the first two books in the series, I would recommend this book to any Young Adult romance lover, but would caution based on content for younger YA readers – there’s nothing totally explicit, but there are references that may be inappropriate for a younger audience.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

In the third and final book following Eastline High's Queen B* Alexis, and star quarterback Brett, the pair is now a solidified couple, but Alexis is reluctant to really prove to the world (high school) that she and Brett are together. She doesn't want to make waves with his friends, whom she despises, and the feelings are mutual, and she doesn't want to give up her social standing as the most feared girl in her school.
When Brett suffers an injury, he changes, and starts to shut Alexis out. At the same time, Alexis' friendship with her bestie Morgan is in shambles, her personal life is going up in flames, and her best friend Richard is being harassed at school by someone who hates gays.
Both Brett and Alexis realize that without each other, they just don't work. Both had some growing up to do, with the help of the other. And ultimately, both made concessions for the other, because after all, that's what love is all about.

I LOVE this series, and I am so sorry to see it end, but at least Ms. McHugh gave us a great ending. My only complaint was the harasser of Richard was glaringly obvious, but since this is a book that is made for teens, and I'm no longer a teen, I forgave her!
I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a good romance story, with a bit of sass thrown in!

The Queen B* is back! I'm totally loving this series. It's hilarious and entertaining. This is book three in this fun contemporary YA series. We pick up right where book two ended. Alexis and Brett are taking their relationship to the next level, as boyfriend and girlfriend. Alexis struggles with her new role has Brett's girlfriend and still trying to maintain her social persona as the school Queen B*. Brett has a hard time following the rules Alexis has placed on their relationship in an effort to not lose her identity. The couple also has to deal with outside influences that cause some friction within the relationship.
I had a lot of fun reading this story. Alexis has a very strong personality and I like that she isn't afraid to call people out when she thinks their behavior is unacceptable. I found Brett's loyalty endearing and a bit naive at times. It was a bit frustrating, but I'm hoping it just means he has room for growth as a character. I won't say more than that, because I want to remain spoiler free.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the The Queen B* series. Alexis has a compelling and engaging narrative voice. I would recommend reading these books in order.
This series is great for all ages. If you enjoy contemporary YA I would definitely recommend you read this series.

I cannot help but love this YA series by Crista McHugh! I would say part of the addiction is watching the characters grow and change as they deal with the ups and downs, ins and out of the high school social scene. Every single time Alexis is forced to look beyond the stereotypes she herself has boxed her peers in I fall in love with her a little bit more. Lexi keeps her guard up, she considers herself perhaps more evolved than her peers but eventually she realizes how wrong she is and every single time she grows up a little bit more.

Brett in my opinion is the shining star of this series. He's the jock/closet nerd and he definitely knows how to gently push Lexi beyond her comfort zone. However, in this installment the golden boy finds himself in a bit of a pickle, as his life is turned upside down it's Alexis turn to do the pushing and encouraging.

I adore this series and while this installment probably wasn't my favorite, I felt as though the story drug a little this time, I definitely recommend the overall series. I do hope there are plans for a 4th book because I believe Lexi and Brett need a few more chapters to round out their story and ride off into the sunset of HEA.

This is book # 3 in The Queen B* series. For reader understanding and enjoyment I encourage you please to read in the order the author intended.

Alexis AKA The Queen B*, is also known as Lexi to her friends and family. She is the girlfriend to the football star Brett, who is rather popular. So she sets rules in order to go forward so she can make it through. These rules are also in place for him.

Brett is the least of Lexi's problems when she discovers her mothers secret, has a sister befriending her mortal enemy, and a best friend who cannot forgive her. So far Brett and her other BFF are all she has to rely on. Until tragedy strikes.

Lexi is all that Brett can think of. He teases her into trying things outside of her little box. The growth they find together makes even the parents proud. What happens when it all is threatened?

I could NOT put this one down! I read it and enjoyed every moment. The honesty, the humor, the all over high school hijinx and romance, it just melted me. This is a great installment to the series and an excellent book for my shelf!

I like the different characters in the book and that we become familiar with them throughout the series, that was nice.

I liked this series in a way and in some ways I didn't.
The main character can just be so irritating and stubborn it actually gets on my nerves. I can't stand the way the girls are written in this series. As if they are all vindictive and backstabbing. I'm so over strong characters and something wrong with them liking makeup or getting dressed up. There is nothing wrong with writing a strong character that likes those things, omg. Give me a break. Just so ridiculous. It's as if they all are horrible and the main character is ok. The friend that actually enjoys sex has something horrible happen to her? Eye roll. And she didn't tell her friend Morgan before she slept with Gavin about how the guy was coming on to her and everything? Some Best Friend she is. You would think she would, with the fact that she tells everything else about everyone's business. A lot of things are very stereotypical, but I'm curious about what happens next in the story. Which is a good thing.

The Queen B* and the Homecoming King by Crista McHugh

    Alexis and Brett are back!

Alexis is ready to make it official that they are boyfriend/girlfriend.

    BUT

The Queen B* has three rules:

    1. No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.
    2. No public displays of affection during school.
    3. She refuses to attend the Homecoming dance.

However, Brett is a very determined person and does not give in easily..

    Life is constantly throwing Spirals.

Will the Power Couple remain strong and catch all the Spirals being thrown their way?

    OR

Will they end up calling a Time-Out?

Crista McHugh has done it again! I LOVED this book! This book has surprises as well as predictable moments BUT the predictable moments do not take away from the enjoyment of the story. I have certainly enjoyed the characters in this series from their personalities to their individual growth. This was a fun read!
