  Amazing!!! The sports festival allows us to get to know new characters and learn more about everyone’s personalities and quirks. I’m happy to see how friendly and supportive the characters are being towards their classmates/teammates.
  P.S. Shoto Todoroki is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Such complex character with a tragic background.

  The U.A. High Sports Festival continues!
  I love seeing all these different Quirks. It was hilarious seeing two students (Kirishima and Tetsutetsu) just going all out because they had similar Quirks.
  
  I was glad to see Midoriya being his geeky self, writing all about the other’s Quirks in his notebook.
  
  I appreciate that this story isn’t being dragged out but it is still filled out by personal stories and growth.

  In the great tradition of other shonen mangas like Dragon Ball, the tournament that started in the previous volume takes up the entirety of this follow-up book as well, and it seems far from over. It’s also very entertaining! We find out even more about the characters, and their development is actually pretty impressive. Also, I have to mention that Ochako Uraraka not only has the best name ever, but is hands down my favorite character in this manga, and one of the coolest female characters I’ve ever encountered in any Japanese media. That cliffhanger finale makes me want to pick up the next book immediately. And yeah, obviously, by this point I’m totally into My Hero Academia.

  With the sports event having only just begun, the story continues with the next challenge and it is not something unknown to a lot of manga series. With this latest challenge, heroes have the opportunity to showcase their skill set and to shine individually.
  
  Of course, this is the perfect moment to introduce a lot of heroes that haven't had the time to shine much, while also slipping in more backstory on some of the main characters to further accentuate their complexity.
  
  My Hero Academia is definitely an entertaining and exciting series that teases great things to come. Hard to say no to what Kohey Horikoshi has planned for us.

  I'm having a great time seeing all these preliminary battles face off. The anime has a bit more going on but not by much. So far I've been very pleased with the parity. :)

  Sometimes three stars means I'll continue a series, sometimes not. A lot of it depends on how much I feel (or, more accurately, imagine) a sympathetic resonance with the story the author is telling. After four volumes, that is lacking in My Hero Academia. I didn't fall in love with it, or feel particularly compelled to continue.
  
  Part of it's because so many of the characters are hung up on "being #1," and while this is by no means uncommon in shonen manga, here it feels like competitiveness is overemphasized vs. the characters cooperating with each other. Some characters don't have sufficient appealing characteristics to overcome their annoying or troubling ones (All Might and Bakugo in particular). The main character is the same boys' manga protagonist you've seen 5000 times, without any particular quirks (pun intended) to make him truly unique. Long story short: with no malice intended, I'm closing the book on this one.

  The U.A. High sports festival is a chance for the budding heroes to show their stuff and find a superhero mentor. The students have already struggled through a grueling preliminary round, but now they have to team up to prove they’re capable of moving on to the next stage. The whole country is watching, and so are the shadowy forces that attacked the academy…
  
  Review :
  Sports festival is still going on and to team up to be first izuku was in first he teams up with uraraka and Tokoyami and Hatsume to get the headband Ida teams up todoroki. Bakagou is with kirishima. Todoroki refuses to use his father's fire side but during battle with izuku he ends up using it . Todoroki gets first . Todoroki chats with izuku and asks him if hes all might son and he knows hes keeping a secret. Onto the battles izuku is against Shinzo who has a mind control quirk and he almost wins but izuku hurts his finger to get his mind right again and izuku wins . Ida and Hatsume fight against each other she ends up tricking Ida but Ida wins the next up is uraraka and bakagou.

  A great volume action-packed with battles but also gives us great insight into a lot of characters. The book starts off with a team challenge where the contestants divide themselves into teams of four and play until four teams have captured all the points. Then the rest of the book does one-on-one battles with the remaining sixteen players ending before the final battle. While the main character is developing and gaining in his powers it is the close look at all the various side characters which really makes this volume shine. My favourite of the series so far!

  Like the last volume, I'm really enjoying the sports festival setting and seeing everyone from Class A & B interact with each other; I seriously hope some of the Class B students get switched over to the hero class as this point because they're waaaaay more interesting than some other students. I really like Tokoyami and Hatsume at the moment and would love to see more of them as well! But anyway, a solid volume . 👍

  In this volume we continue with the U.A. Sports Festival, starting with Round 2 - the "Cavalry Battle". Unfortunately for poor Midoriya, thanks to coming first in the first round he ends up with a massive target on his back due to how the points system works, making it hard to find team members for this round... oops? 8'D
  
  Bakugo was pretty great in that round, basically being his usual pissed off self and just wanting to win, especially after someone from class 1-B decided to challenge him by basically brushing him off... which honestly is the BEST WAY to get Bakugo riled up :P
  
  Following the Cavalry battles, we also got to see the beginnings of the final "tournament style" one-on-one battles, and with the cliffhanger of this episode essentially being "Bakugo's battle is about to begin" I'm SUPER excited for Volume 5!

  Oooh, this guy has the best personality for pissing Bakugo off to the point of (a possibly literal) explosion 8’D

  Hard to say how the cavalry battle will end… especially as I have forgotten the anime adaptation of this bit. Oops 8’D
  
  Chapter 29.
  And once again the “human stun gun” (aka Kaminari) comes out XD

  Chapter 30.
  Bakugo’s still pissed, but he’s managing to get some of the points back - he no longer has zero!

  Whoot whoot! And thanks to Tokoyami, Deku’s team managed to JUST squeeze into the next round, by coming in fourth place in this round!

  Todoroki’s father looks like he’d make a good villain with that glare 8’D
  
  Chapter 31.
  Dun dun dunnnnnn… Todoroki felt the true power of Midoriya, and now knows there’s some kind of connection between the two of them… but thinking that he’s All Might’s illegitimate child as the explanation for it is hilarious.

  Yep. Todoroki’s dad could totally be a villain. Lookit that expression!

  And there’s that lovely depressing background behind Todoroki’s scarred face 8’D

  Mutual declaration of war between Deku and Todoroki now, thanks to their backgorunds and ambitions. Whoot!

  One on one battles for the final official challenge c:
  
  Chapter 32.
  Ojiro’s dropping out of the final battle, as a result of potentially being controlled by the quirk of another during the cavalry battle, and feeling like he doesn’t deserve his place now. Noble, but I feel really sorry for the guy ;u;

  Uh oh. Midoriya’s opponent is gonne be the “mind control guy” in the first round 8’D
  --
  It’s pretty terrifying that at this stage Midoriya’s “One for All” strength is at about 5% of what it could be, considering how powerful it is already 8’D
  --
  And like an idiot, Midoriya responded to whatshisname (Shinso?), thus getting caught in the guy’s quirk. Shit.
  
  Chapter 33.
  And Midoriya was able to snap out of it! Granted, because he broke two fingers and used the pain to “free” himself from the mind control! Painful, but effective. And honestly at this stage I don’t think a broken finger is really all that much to Deku in the long run… he’s had worse :P

  ...of course this DOES mean he’ll likely end up having to face Todoroki in the next round. Shit.
  
  
  Chapter 34.
  Pretty neat! This guy, even though he lost to Midoriya, is now a prime scouting “target” by the pro-heroes in the audience, as they realise the usefulness of his quirk in a combat situation; and they’re right. It really is ideal.

  LOL. I love All Might’s response to hearing about how Deku “saw” eight or nine people (potentially the past owners of One for All - kinda like being the Avatar in ATLA actually…). The fact that one of the ones there was All Might though says that his time might be coming to a close…

  “You’re my greatest creation” could be taken as “I’m proud of you” in many situations where a father is talking to their child…. Not this one 8’D

  Welp. That battle was over quickly. I love everyone’s reaction to Todoroki using his ice ability though XD They’re all just like “Oh my gawd, what the fuck just happened here O.O” - including the announcers/teachers. Definitely overkill. Todoroki even got the ref XD
  
  Chapter 35.
  Again, that was fast XD In almost no time at all Kaminari (the human stun gun) has been taken out by Ibara Shiozaki, one of the members of class 1-B. To be fair, I think that his ability was completely useless against hers, as his electricity vs. her vines was likely at a distinct disadvantage.

  Uraraka found out about Deku’s notebook(s) ;D I love that he’s taken notes on all of the members of Class 1-A and is using the games as an opportunity to take notes on Class 1-B (and others) c:

  I love that Iida’s opponent is using her battle against him purely to advertise the support items that she’s created XD And of course once she’s had her go at selling her abilities as a designer, she just concedes the battle win to Iida.

  Oh my gosh, YES. Kirishima is facing the “copycat” - aka the guy who basically has the exact same power that he does. And it’s GREAT XD

  It’s very sweet of Deku to offer Uraraka a plan to defeating Bakugo using her quirk, but I think she made the right call in turning down his help. If she wants to become a pro-hero, she needs to be able to defeat her “foes” without Deku’s assistance, and she probably doesn’t want to learn to rely on him being there.

  So fun!
  This one has the cavalry battles which are a blast. Love seeing Deku use his tactical thinking and seeing Bakugo rage. Dark Shadow is still a favourite of mine so seeing him in action was great.
  Then we get onto the first round of the one-on-one fights. Get to see Shinso doing his thing for the first time and the shout out to how unfair and everything the entrance exam to the hero course really is. Deku gets a vision. Seeing all the bits of fights and everything was fun. This one leaves off with just the one fight for the first round remaining.

  I feel like I've never wanted the next book in a series as badly as I want Volume 5 of
  My Hero Academia.
  
  This was some good shit, boys. Just like this series always is. I know it's already pretty fast that they come out every few months, but I feel like it could be even faster. Like does it really take that long to translate and touch-up and all that? I kind of feel like I'm talking like an ungrateful brat right now, so I'll stop.
  
  This whole volume (which consists of chapters 27-35) still just covers the Sport Festival arc, and it's still going strong by the end of chapter 35. It also ends on a mighty cliffhanger, so thank you very much to whoever decided to end the volume there. This arc is pretty good, we get to see the millions of characters in action which is pretty cool. I love Aizawa Sensei, just gonna casually drop that here. We don't see him in action during this volume (that was the last arc) but he's one of the commentators to the festival. I feel like watching him in the anime and reliving him from the earlier chapters is what has got me so keen on him now.
  
  I started reading this late at night on the Sunday that episode nine of the anime aired. That's the episode where it's the start of their third training, Rescue Training. Would that be the Rescue Training arc then? Or something else to do with villains, since that's the first time they fight villains. Who knows, either way that's where the anime is as of the writing of this review. The fifth episode aired a couple days before this volume was released, so I was a little behind on picking this up.
  
  I want the next volume now please, thanks. And no I will not read any fan-translations online. I want to support this amazing series with my money, and you should too! Wheee!

  The first 1/3 of the book was about the strange Joust-like tournament round. This was one of the weirdest games I have ever seen! Then the finalists go into the next round of one on one battles. We get to see a lot more quirks. Some interesting, others are just plain odd.
  The where several scenes that were not easy to follow. Too much action to understand properly. The panels also jump around a lot between characters on the field. Does not help. Probably looks great in anime form but paper images are a bit trickier to follow.
  I really liked getting a bit more in depth with some characters backgrounds and personalities

  We're into tournament battles now! I'm glad Horikoshi-sensei keeps them short and to the point. Too often shounen series that have battle tournaments drag things on waaaay too long.
  
  These ones are interesting, too, since they're all with quirks. It reminds me a bit of
  MAR's battles later in the series, with all the crazy weapons and magic.

  Absolutely worth buying after volume 4. Characters that you may have only been sort of interested gain more development over the course of this proceeding arc while new, gripping ones emerge to breed further life into this hallmark tale of heroes! Both a fun, entertaining romp for kids and a most intriguing read for even mature comic fans!
