Would romance writers please stop giving people - especially women - unrealistic impressions of what love looks like. Yes, sure, the paranormal part about the shifters does make the story unrealistic to the roots, but the basic idea of love shouldn't change that. At one point, a relationship will always mean work, always. Only a small part of all the people meet their "soulmate" and know that instantly. Life is more than that; more interesting, more diverse, more complicated...

This one was just ... I don't know. Best way to describe it is predictable. Easy read with good writing. Characters are okay. Overall rating is 2.5.

This adult romance is a shifter fantasy tale, and I like that we meet a family of cheetah shifters. The small isolated towns of these stories are required, to keep the secrets of these clans, and a new doctor in town is in for a few surprises. One surprise is that the slim lady who wants to hang out with him is engaged.

Some fun moments and rather a lot of the other, but nicely written. Expect some strong language and adult scenes.

This was an interesting read. I liked the story and Cheyenne's dad made me laugh. I liked that they were cheater shifters. I thought that there could have been more romance and seduction. I think the fight could have been better too.

Well, I feel that there wasn't much point here. There are some editing errors. No major plot really. Chey is going to be forced to marry someone else or find her own mate. There's dirty talk, lots of sex, but no real basis of a relationship. I feel like the entire story was just about sex. I like a little more substance to books I read. Maybe if it were edited better and the characters were more developed, it could have been better, but damn. The way it is, I wasn't happy. It's not a completely bad book, I did read the whole thing, I honesty can say that. I gave it 3 stars because it's just... Ok.

I was gifted this book as part of an anthology for an honest review.

What a great first in the Hidden Hills series. Cheyenne Snow is a shifter who's Alpha (her dad) has ordered her to find a mate before her birthday in four months time. If she failed to mate by then he was going to force her to marry a horrible shifter that was mean and abusive to her. Cheyenne figured her chances of finding a mate are slim so she decides to have a fling with a human before reconciling herself to her fate.

Dr Storm Durant is a human physician who moves to the town of Hidden Hills to take over for the towns retiring doctor. He's not looking for love or anything permanent until he meets Cheyenne, who thinks he's perfect for a fling before mating. All goes well between them until he discovers Cheyenne is using him and breaks it off with her. And that's when she realizes Storm is not just a fling...he could be the mate she's been needing all along.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to everyone. As a matter of fact, I've already read and enjoyed book 2 in this series.

This was a short quick read that was pretty good. Cheyenne "Chey" Snow has been given an ultimatum by her pack’s Alpha, which was her father. Chey was given 4 months to find a husband or her father would pick one for her Chuck Lord a man who was fat and mean and she had no attraction to in fact she couldn't stand him. Dr. Storm Durant comes to Hidden Hills, North Carolina, to take over the practice of a retiring physician. These two had instant attraction and Strom can't explain why he is so drawn to Chey. Everything is going well between them until he discovers Cheyenne is using him and breaks it off with her. And that's when she realizes Storm is not just a fling he could be the mate she's been needing all along. This book is fast moving it is also well written with no errors in spelling or grammar. Although this is not my first time reading books by this author this is a new series to me and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

    What a great diversion!

Very fast paced shifter romance, complete with passion and fighting lessons! And now a bit about the story...

Cheyenne Snow has been promised to the awful Chuck Lord by her father if she can't find a suitable husband/mate in four months. Since Chey's dad is the pack alpha her husband needs to be able to take over the cheetah pack, so this is no small task ahead of her. When she decides all hope is lost she decides to have a spring fling to take her mind off the awful Mr Lord! If only she could get her father to change his mind!!

Favorite passage: “I want to love you the way you deserve.”

“I can’t tell you how happy you’ve made me.”
“You’ve made me happier. I never thought I’d meet someone as wonderful as you.”
He lifted his chin. “You’re right. After all, I did save you from a life with Chuck.”
    “True.”
He smiled. “Rest assured, I’ll be collecting on that debt for a very long time.”
Chey hugged him tighter. “I’m counting on it.”

This my first cheetah shifter book, and I thought it was hotter than hell. I am so glad that Storm relocated to Hidden Hills. Cheyenne is was woman, because of Storm coming to town. I am so glad she didn't have to end up with that loser Chuck.

In book one in the Hidden Hills Shifters series, Cheyenne is a cheetah shifter with a problem. Her father is the alpha of the pack and plans to step down. Since he doesn’t have a son and only men can rule the pack, he demands that his only daughter marry a man she despises. He chooses Chuck, a cruel, abusive man. So when Chey meets Storm, a sexy human in a bar, she’s only looking for a good time before she has to subject herself to Chuck for the good of the cheetah people.
Storm’s the new doctor in town. The connection between him and Chey is instant. He doesn’t understand it, but falls hard and fast for her. Then Chey’s problem threatens to tear them apart.
Romance blooms quickly, but it’s more like insta-lust since the sex scenes are numerous and frequent. Storm accepted Chey being a shifter very easily, and the mating bite and the consequences that come with it didn’t bother or unnerve him. The twist at the end left me smiling, but I figured it out long before I reached that point.
The story is well written in third POV and properly alternates between Chey and Storm. I’d like to read more in the series.

This story was full of trite dialogue and plot while the purple prose waxed and waned. Rough Fated Mate insta-lust sex against rough tree bark did not work for me, and the main point of the book seemed to be the raw sex every few pages, that became boring, not erotic. The plot histrionics reminded me of the artificial melodrama created in Reality TV shows.

The writing was odd with strange descriptive word combinations: 'she definitely oozed an innocence...' or ' acid will have eaten through my stomach and reached my heart...' 'or turning her need into rabid desire, and her burgeoning love burst forth.' (ew) I was really pissed off when Hero Storm felt he could be a good alpha because 'he'd commanded a ton of nurses and other servicemen." What?? Nope, not my cup of tea. Toasted from my Ebook Library. Final Rating: 1.5 Stars

Chey is getting an ultimatum by her alpha father to find a mate.
She finds this so not fair and that same evening she meets Storm, a human. But she doesn't care about that. She goes with for a night full passion. But that seems not to be enough. Sparks keep on flying between them and they can't keep their hands from each other.

But there is trouble in paradise, since she didn't tell him everything. When finds out he is mad at her, but soon they make up with a night full of passion and in this passion she bites him. This changes everything. How? For that you have to read the book.

If you are into a good shifter story you won't regret reading the book

    Enjoyable.

I just discovered this author and I really like her writing style. I don’t read a lot of paranormal romances but I was hooked from page one. Loved the chemistry between Storm and Cheyenne. But she’s not told him she’s a shifter so I did have some tears when he got upset. Was she really supposed to marry Chuck? There’s apparently shifter rules to follow. But could Storm really be her mate? Or will she have to give him up? No worries, there’s a very happy ever after. This was a fun and sexy read. I highly recommend this book.

    Eh

The two main characters were likable, but the story went down hill about halfway. Almost as if the writer was in a rush to end the story. Gave three whole names of characters that had no place in the story, the bad guy was lackluster and easily forgotten. The problem was solved too quickly and all was forgiven and forgotten. This story started at a run and ended at a crawl. No interest in the next book (s).

I found this to be a fun, quick read. It had me laughing a bit to myself at times, while at others it was pretty hot.

I liked the closeness of the friendships and family, even though I spent most of the story wanting to throat punch, Leo, Chey's dad.

I can't wait to see what the future holds for the Hidden Hill residents, and hope that we get to see Cheyenne and Storm again. I would also like to see what, if anything, is going to happen to/with Chuck.

    A spotted shifter romance

Fast and easy read. Her father has given her an ultimatum. Marry in four months or marry Chuck. Well Chuck is pretty disgusting and there are plenty of other reasons to dislike him too. When a new guy comes to town she finds a little diversion. The new guy might be hot and gorgeous but can he handle that she is a cheetah shifter? A quick romance with lots of love.

    An Unexpected Diversion

Wow! What happens when the daughter of the Alpha is given a timeline to find a mate or else agree to an arranged mating to a despicable fellow cheetah shifter. Cheyenne has 4 months to live her life before she has to marry Chuck, but in the meantime she is going to enjoy her time with a human doctor she just met. Can she keep it sexual only, and what will happen if the doc finds out she is using him? Loved this book.

    She's so stubborn

Cheyenne is a cheetah shifter and the town vet. She's given an ultimatum by her dad: find a mate herself or he's got one picked out for her - a nasty one. She runs into Storm at a local bar. Turns out he's human and the new doctor in town. And do the sparks fly! I took a star off because I thought the sex was a little excessive. Overall, it's worth the read.

    What a sweet read

Vella Day is a talent author! I can’t tell you enough how much I loved reading An Unexpected Diversion! The sexual tension between Cheyenne and Storm is explosive, so much so that I couldn’t put it down! I suggest anyone who loves Paranormal Shifter books this is the one to read!

    A good read

This is a nice, light story that's well and and has likeable characters. The male lead is someone that I'm pretty sure any female looking for a keeper would grab and not let go. Not enough of those in the real world, right? Hey, that's probably why we read these books!

  • Cheshire Cat

Well written with an interesting, yet predictable plot. It's not too often I find a book about cheetah shifters, which I wish they had gone into a bit more. The characters were interesting, especially Chey's dad who's tactics made me laugh.
