I’ve only read one story from this collection, “A Daddy for Muffin” by Beck Mitchell, and it's a doozy. This is a very sweet story about pride and loss, easy affection and deep love. When the main character of the story, known to us variously as Daddy, Possum, and Mr. Wilson, is almost fatally injured, his view of beauty is changed forever, as is his understanding of sex and love. After the accident, “Daddy” is abandoned by his shallow boyfriend Thom who can’t bear to see or be seen with someone who is less than perfect. As “Possum” goes through difficult, painful therapy, his friend from the gym, Bucky, is there all the way, working with him to regain as much mobility as possible. When he can’t go home alone, “Mr. Wilson” is taken in by new friends, Steph and Muffin. And when they invite gay “Mr. Wilson” into their bedroom he discovers that gender identity isn’t always what it seems and sexual orientation is what it’s always been. A terrific little short story with a lot of punch.

Worth reading for fun, love and healing are themes worthy of your time ;)

So far, I have read "First Kiss" by
J.J. Carroll, so this review is for that story. :-)

I don't normally read contemporary, but this author has an easy flow to her words that make me forget that there's no "magic" actually happening. The story begins with a young boy-- dying of cancer-- and joking with his male nurse. The dialog between the two convinced me that this was one of those stories that was going to make me cry.

    Yep.

But it's a story of a promise, a story of hope, and well worth reading.
Thanks for the catharsis, and the very lovely story. Can't wait to read more from this author!

As a contributing author, of course I think it's wonderful ;)

Every year as part of our Melbourne Queermance festival, we release an anthology of queer writing, and every year it's pretty fantastic.

From this compilation, these were the ones that stood out for me:

Better With Bacon, I think this is my favourite piece of all the writing I have read from Matt Lang. These two boys are gorgeous and interact amazingly with each other.

Coffee and Kisses by JRF Coates was another well edited piece of gay fiction. For me, it was only the switches back and forth from first to third person that were occasionally just a little bit difficult to navigate.

The Birthday Present by NM Harris gave us solid descriptions, as well as a strong Australian place setting. Tasty erotica. Gay story.

Marion Adams' Nettles and Lilies was an incredibly polished short lesbian story set in Australia.

The Girl From TGI Fridays by Dominica Malcolm was another lesbian short, though this one came with polyamorous. It has characters that stay in the mind well after the story is done.

The last story, by Isabelle Rowan, Waiting, was an amazing paranormal short between Jeremy and 'the man of his dreams' that was the perfect way to round out this anthology.
