    Five Minute Meditation (5 Stars)

Five Minute Meditation by Lisa Shea is a beginner's book on meditation that quickly enables a complete novice to start meditating. The book is an easy read as the author strips away the complexity of an arcane subject. The presentation is secular. The only thing required of the reader is five minutes of time to do the meditation, something which even the busiest of us should be able to do.

Three positions are discussed: walking, sitting and lying down. The author stresses that one must not struggle to keep the mind free of thoughts. Rather one should observe them and let the thoughts wander away. The focus when walking is on the walking technique which the author describes as walking from heel to arch to ball of the feet. In the sitting and lying down positions, the focus is on the breathing. The author recommends breathing from the stomach as it releases calming hormones. A timer which lets you know when the 5 minutes are up is recommended.

For those having trouble, the author recommends focusing on an object, music, guided meditation. The author warns the reader of potential challenges like boredom, frustration, impatience and tells the reader to remain undaunted.

My favorite thing about this book is its simplicity. It requires only 5 minutes of your time when starting out. The author also doesn't make any recommendation on when to meditate. One can do it whenever one has the time. A helpful tip the author give us is to connect the meditation to an already existing activity. This way we don't need to make new time for meditation.

As this book is available for free on Amazon, I highly recommend it to anyone interest in the subject.

IF you are NOT meditating, you owe it to yourself to read this book. I have read a great many books where the author states that meditation is extremely good for you in so many different ways, mostly to develop a calmness and a focused awareness. I understood what they said and/or wrote. The problem for me was how do you actually do it.

Lisa Shea's book is very quick to read but contains a lot of great information. It is a "start", so to speak. I also started a course on Meditation I purchased from Great Courses. It is far more in depth with 36 lessons of about 30 minutes each. As I read Shea's book, I picked out a great many practices, ideas, suggestions that are also covered in the Great Course on Meditation.

Way too soon to evaluate how well or how horrible I will do at meditating but if you don't start somewhere, you never will benefit for the practice. Shea's book is a great place to start.

    Nice Little Introduction

A nice little introduction into meditation; some parts do repeat, but I personally like the flow of this e-book.

This is the 25th unique book for my year challenge, and it was worth reading.

It's free on Amazon, but I guess it can have charges depending on your country or other things, if there's a charge all proceeds go to a non-profit for battered woman it says so in the book.

    NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

This book was a disappointment for me. I was hoping it would contain things to do instead of talking about the methods. Total let-down.
