Welcome to McKenna Ranch!
Meet Brody, Callie, Mercer and Parker--the four siblings in the clan of James McKenna, a Montana rancher. Growing up on the ranch was a great life, until Callie and Parker's mother passed away, leaving James a widower. It wasn't long, however, before he remarried, bringing stepmother Liz into their lives, along with her son, Brody. Soon, James and Liz added a new McKenna to the family, when daughter Mercer was born.
Brothers and sisters are prone to disagreements and this Brady Bunch family of step, half, and full siblings is no exception. As they grew up on the ranch, they learned values that stuck with them throughout their lives--even though they may live apart as adults. But there is one thing that will bring them all back together. Their father's only wish.
Beginning with a short prequel novella that tells the story of James McKenna and Liz Caldera, and how they came to blend their families, these stories put you on the McKenna Ranch near Yellowstone National Park. This series leads off with Jan Scarbrough's Brody, with Maddie James' Callie to follow, while the siblings begin the long road home. These sweet to sexy stories give you a glimpse into Montana rodeo and ranch life, and of course, provide lots of contemporary cowboy love and romance.

Great Beginning
I won a paperback book copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is a beautiful beginning to this series. James has lost his wife and is raising his 2 children alone. It hasn't been that long but his friends introduce him to Liz, who is divorced and raising her son alone. But one night together made them realize they cared about each other and also a baby on the way. This is a wonderful beginning to the series about the 4 children.
It's great to see how two families comes together to make a new one. Each coming from different reason. You never know where love begins. -
This story had a little bit of everything, heartache, romance, suspense. James McKenna is one fine cowboy. I'm looking forward to the other books in the series.

The story itself is only about 50 pages and the rest of this is the first chapter from each of the subsequent books in the series. This short story establishes the family and how they came to be together. I felt the story was rushed and didn't buy how quickly their feelings developed when they barely saw each other. Yes, the story is sweet but I question the true foundation of the relationship. It felt like a thrown together story so that how the family came to be didn't have to be explained in the first book. There was no cursing and sex was only alluded to, not even directly mentioned.
This book is listed clearly as a prequel, but I expected more due to the length. I didn't realize only half of it was the story and the rest were blurbs. I am debating getting the next story which is about the oldest son, Brody. Depending on the price, I'll probably give it a try then decide from there if I want to read the rest of the series. Since it's a longer story, I would expect the love story and characters to be more developed. It is currently available on Amazon. -
This is short book to introduce the reader to the McKenna family. James is a widow with two children. He meets Liz, a divorced mother of one son, on a blind date. Still missing his wife, he has issues dating someone else. I found the book very good.
The author wrote a interesting story and gave me a copy in exchange of a honest review. -
Enjoyable read
A good book to relax with, take your mind to another place - to escape. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of series. -

Off to a so-so start
I have read many of Jan Scarborough's books, but this series is off to a sad start. For one, there is no book following that tells of James and Liz's life together, as you will find out when you read the beginning pages of the rest of the books in the series. Why skip the main characters' lives and jump straight up to adulthood for the children, even the unborn, into their adult lives? Another book needs to be added there. Secondly, do NOT read if this appeals to you too much, the second book about Brody is not available for sale, rent, Prime, Kindle Unlimited, NOTHING and NO ONE has it. I'm not planning on even one book after knowing this. Lastly, one of the writers, see if you can see which, writes in choppy sentences, often ending in a preposition not needed. I'm a stickler, this might not matter to another reader. I don't like sentences. That are written like this but. This is an example of the sentences I am talking about too. Does this get on your nerves too? See what you think! -
An Awesome Read!
I loved reading about The Montana McKennas: Prequel (The Montana Ranchers Book 1), all about James McKenna & his kids Callie & Parker and their ranch. The book opens with James burying his wife Claire who is his heart and soul, but she didn't last long once they found the lump. Now he has to walk away from the only women he ever loved, and he has no idea how to do that! He has two young kids and must go on some how. His Forman Sam signs him up to go on a blind date with Liz Caldera a divorced mom with a ten year old son. It's awkward but they get thru their first date and he spends the night. The author wrote a very interesting story, and the characters make the story come to life. Read all about the McKenna's and the Caldera's and see what happens after they have been dating for six months. -
I love Maddie James and Han Scarbrough from Legend Tennessee books, so I knew I would love this series as well. This is the beginning of a series and we learn how the family became blended.
James a widower with Callie and Parker. Liz is divorced with a son Brody. They are fixed up by Jame's ranch hand Sam. This is their story how they met, fell in love and their families joined together and added a child too. This is the first of many books.
I really love this sweet romance. -
Nice start to the series with enough substance to get the reader invested in this fictional family. Liked the writing style. Appreciated the inclusion of sample reads from the other volumes in this series.
