It’s too late to turn back now . . .
From the New York Times Bestselling Author Penny Reid

Four days left.
Private beach (…and boat).
Not so invisible girl.
And maybe less of a jerk-faced bully than originally thought.
What’s the worst (or the best) that could happen?

Kaitlyn is finding life outside of the science cabinet of obscurity to be quite illuminating …and so are her pants. When things heat up between Kaitlyn Parker and Martin—previously known as the jerk-faced bully—Sandeke, she places her trust in the one person she never thought capable of earning it, let alone keeping it safe. Fortunately or unfortunately for Kaitlyn, where she gives her trust she can’t help but also give her heart.

But how will the world beyond the sanctuary of their newfound connection react to their relationship? Soon senators, chinless billionaires, and elements beyond Martin and Kaitlyn’s control want to weigh in on the young couple’s future.

Navigating the chaotic inferno of new love might be more than Kaitlyn bargained for, and much, much more than her trust—or her heart—can handle.

Elements of Chemistry: HEAT is the second part in a three part series; it is 55k words; and it ends with a cliffhanger.
Part 1 (ATTRACTION) Available Now! (ends on a cliffhanger)
Part 2 (HEAT) Available Now! (ends on a cliffhanger)
Part 3 (CAPTURE) Available Now!

After the shocking ending of the first serial, I wasn't sure where Kaitlyn and Martin's story was going to lead. However, 'Heat' picks up right were 'Attraction' left off, so you won't be left hanging for long. In fact, this book featured one of the quickest resolutions to a big conflict that I've ever encountered. It was even a little anti-climactic for me, as I love the grovel.

That being said, I still enjoyed this book immensely. Kaitlyn never gets old. Her quirky, but endearing, antics kept me laughing again and Martin is just the guy to balance out her light-hearted personality.

This installment highlights the change in their relationship from friends to lovers. The intimacy between the two is incredible and there is plenty of sexiness. For most of this book, they are blissfully happy and inseparable.

Then, things go bad. I knew it would happen, but it was still painful to bear witness to. Expect another big cliffhanger that will leave you clamoring for the third installment.

Overall, this is still a fabulous series. I love the push/pull between Kaitlyn and Martin. After finishing this one, I had to dive into the last book immediately. I just couldn't get enough of these two!

Part 2 of Penny Reid’s Element’s of Chemistry is aptly named Heat. Things really start to heat up between Martin and Kaitlyn. They are still in the bliss of their perfect week together. After that cliffhanger from book one, we get to see what happened and why.

Martin and Kaitlyn both have stronger feelings for one another then they thought possible at this stage in their relationship. Kaitlyn learns a lot about Martin. Things about his past and family. Things that have shaped him into the person he is today. Someone who has to be callous at times, has to protect themselves. Kaitlyn sees that. She sees him.

     photo 79fb8ece-e66a-43fb-bf23-77fea2b10a85_zpsgtrobokj.jpg

    “Are you always like this?”

“Like what? Amazing?”

“Yeah… amazing.”

I did love seeing the growth in their relationship. I know things may seem fast to some readers, but these two have known each other for a while. Both of their feelings haven’t just developed overnight. Their love and passion for each other is something that took time and is just now starting to bloom. Martin makes Kaitlyn feel special. He makes her feel like she is worth everything to him.
I felt cherished. I felt. And it felt like perfection.

This installment was a bit more serious than the last, but you know Penny Reid still brings the smart, the quirky and the funny. I adore the banter between these two. The times they made me giggle, it was a nice break from some of the serious things going on.
“Listen to me for one fucking second, okay?”

I also whispered, but only because he was whispering, “Only if you stop using the f-word like you get paid royalties every time you say it.”

“I’ll fucking use whatever fucking word I want to fucking use whenever I fucking want to.”

I’m not going to sugar coat this- the end of this installment broke my heart. This cliffhanger was far worse than the last for me. Thankfully the next part will be out shortly. I can’t wait to see how Martin and Parker’s story ends!

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Another five star rating from me, how can that be? Well, it’s pretty simple. Penny Reid continues to write stories that really rock my world. It is with such ease that she sucks me into her stories leaving me no other choice but to fall in love with the characters and the plot. In HEAT Penny continues with her wit and originality. In this one she gave just a little bit more.

     photo HEAT_zpstlik6vxr.jpg

That little bit more comes in the form of some pretty scorching hot and sexy scenes.

The ending of book one leaves you feeling uncertain and anxious about what was going to happen with Martin and Kaitlyn. Within moments of starting HEAT you are able to breathe a lot easier. But it is just the beginning. Martin and Katy are about to explore feelings that will rattle them both.

     photo pic 1_zpsrxg9s3sn.jpg

Falling in love is one of those things that can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Little by little Katy’s cautious side gives way to the passion she is feeling. She shares pieces of herself she has never shared with another and risks her heart in a way that is foreign to her.

     photo pic 3_zpsmiz563e0.jpg

Things appear to be a bit easier for Martin. He wants Katy. He needs her. He desires her. For him there is no need for logic. He wants her in his life and will take it slow or take it fast. Whatever Katy needs, he is willing to give.

     photo b052df2906fc2687c8f2771c9e2de7e9_zps0covkdjb.jpg

I wish these two could have stayed in their little bubble but they couldn’t. They continued to melt my heart, Martin with his vulnerability and Katy with her innocence. Each of them putting on display the things that could hurt them the most.

     photo a98415d3284874c77756d1cc7e1414c4.jpg_zps7vmitruc.gif

I tried yet again to prepare myself for the ending but it didn’t work. I was….

     photo heart broken_zpsihqcxkjb.jpg

It was worth every minute though, the sweetness, tenderness, sexiness and even the sadness. I continue to keep the faith that Penny will bring Martin and Katy to the spot that they are supposed to be.

Martin and Kaitlyn enjoy the rest of their week in paradise getting crazy hot and heavy. I mean Penny Reid can seriously write some fan yourself steam and Martin was irresistible!

The humor is once again spot on in this second installment. I’m all happy because everything is going swimmingly except for that passion fight for what you want and bowing out argument and then… I can’t total devastation!

I want you to stop for a moment and think back to the years of 18 to 22...with the demographics of Goodreads, it could be right now or many many decades ago...I ask you to do this because we all go through that stage and the intensity of it can be thrilling, adventurous and scary as hell...all at the same time. The core feelings of lust, love, and sex will always be the same... but depending on who we are and how we process things will guide our actions and results of the lessons learned.

It can be an amazing life experience to hold dear for years to come; it can also devastate you.
In Heat by Penny Reid, she created these two people who have the intelligence and core beliefs to carry them through some typical times and then some very unique only to them times...and all of it feels very real.

I do not wish to go into too much which will take away from your experience; however, I want you to pay very close attention to how these two communicate when confronted with conflict.

    Each. Holds. Their. Own.

There is no accusing and then crying and oh I'm sorry... Done.

No, there is a confident woman telling a man what the issue is, how it made her feel, how she didn't like it and decided nope... not for her.

In turn, there was a man confused not understanding at first what he did wrong, hearing what was presented, explained how mixed signals got them where they were.

The Best...They both listened and processed each position; they talked it out so each got what happened and then moved forward...they did not hold grudges, they took the information and applied it to the budding relationship.

I was impressed by this because I was able to see how these two were going to work...I knew things would happen (it is a romance novel, duh) but this early scene gave me a road map to how they could work through the crap if they applied themselves.

This love story is a take you by the hand and be in the heads of characters to adore...I have already told you my love for them in my review for the first part so I am not going to go into greater detail on that.

But I will tell you this couple goes on an emotional and sexual journey which is so explosive in its care, feelings, way of communicating and expressing everything about learning about the overwhelming intensity of mind, body, and soul of sex.

There is Martin, one who knows what it is all about; how to work his magic fingers and other parts to make a woman's body sing. He also has a shocking understanding this time things are different; not a hit it and quit it...this is the girl he has been wanting, watching and thinking about for over a year. It's like he doesn't know why but he has a vested interest to make sure he doesn't fuck this up and is on new territory... undiscovered land with mines embedded to look out for... and not cause this wonder to decimate.

And then we have Kaitlyn... she is this eye of the hurricane of lust and new feelings...she is having her head talking to her at a thousand miles a minute yet also having her body claiming all the senses at once. She is aware at all times of the wonder of it all while knowing what she wants and how much she is able to handle in this new arena. She is clear to Martin and Martin listens...he pays attention.

This part of the story gives us other moments which will make you sit back and be knocked sideways with the blatant wisdom and real philosophy of men and how they categorize what has been ingrained in their heads forever. To hear is said outright and have Kaitlyn push back was a moment that would hit every woman no matter the age.

So many moments... some amazing... others forecasting the ugly I alluded to in my first review... All adding up to an intense part of this series... so worth the read, not a false moment in it.

Yes, the ending has a huge major cliffy...and a life question that pushes these two who are destined to be that love which will never be duplicated by any other for either of them...How they handle it, what they do... this is the beauty and pain of real-life...

Ms. Reid has us in the palm of her hands; she takes great care and does not use her power ruthlessly or indiscriminately...we are able to trust in Reid, not to abuse it but to use it for good and righteous.

I will be ready for my next test, Ms. Reid...I am preparing for the final.

    *** SPOILER FREE REVIEW ***

    Penny Reid strikes again!
You’d think because you knew about the cliffhanger you’d be able to manage and remain calm?

    Pffff. Think. AGAIN.

Penny Reid did the unexpected once more, managing to break my heart in little less than 200 pages. Oh but she did it sneakily, you see. She let me me believe I had reached the nirvana first, then abruptly ripped it off of my hands.

This is a cruel thing to do. So beware of Heat, as you well know by now, if you catch the fire, you’re going to get burn.

    “It was my song.
It was mine and its lack of rationality was seductive. I loved it. It was beautiful to me.
Prudence, practicality, good judgment, reasonableness, rationality, realism…”

Heat, Elements of Chemistry, part 2 remains true to its name. This book was scorching hot. There is no other word for it.

So hot I was seriously considering upgrading this book to my erotica shelf. See, she did such a great job creating the perfect chemistry between her characters, expertly building an unbearable tension, I was seconds to let Martin and Kaitlyn "play" in my own head. I needed action! I’m not ashamed to say that Penny Reid made me greedy for the next level, and I’m happy to report that, boy, did she delivered.

“If I keep giving in while we’re in the moment then none of this has meaning.”
“I want it to have meaning, Parker. And I’m fine with waiting for some things but I still need to touch you.”

    electrifying
    hair-rising
    spine-tingling
    thrilling
    exciting
    arousing
    provocative
    overwhelming

    All of the above.

She gave such attention to details, illustrating every caresses, every touch, every stroke, every feel, that I could project myself as Kaitlyn. Yes, I was Kaitlyn.
And isn’t it what we’re all looking for in a romance novel? To lose ourselves in a story, the fantasy? Well damn, but Penny Reid is my fantasy maker and solely provider.

“He tasted me over and over; wet, lapping sounds that struck me as tremendously carnal married with my harsh breaths and moans. The combined sounds were discordant, awkward, and clumsy; and yet like accidental and inharmonious sounds of the piano as he pressed me against the keys, the sounds were real and they were honest.
They were the sounds of sex, of desire.”

"Heat" starts right where "Attraction" left us. And I have to hand Miss Reid my hat for not giving into facility and layering on the drama. Kaitlyn and Martin worked their previous issues like adults. Well, Martin certainly laid it on thick with the charm, sexiness and suggestiveness, he was unquestionably as ready as I was to get to the next level. (See how I’m not even relating to Kaitlyn, but myself anymore?)

Kaitlyn never stood a chance to resist Martin, I’m afraid. Resistance was futile. She’d been assimilated.

Where Attraction left us with deep pains in our chests, the heat wave here was most definitely welcome. It was soothing and I enjoyed their mutual discoveries tremendously.
“Under the burden of his scorching gaze I attempted to remind myself of my feminist ideals, that I was not put on this earth to be attractive to men.
But those ideals felt really faraway, maybe a little naive, and a lot inconvenient.”

Kaitlyn singular and analytical mind VS Martin more impulsive and determined one.

Kaitlyn and Martin are about to explore their feelings, both being recluses in their own way. The experience of opening themselves to each other, trusting each other… The premises of love.

Yes this story is definitely NA in this sense. It evolves around this thing we all experienced at some point in our lives, the attraction, the infatuation and the innocence of a first love… Minus the unnecessary drama. And that was SO REFRESHING!

“Just because I’m not ready to take the next in the physical intimacy pyramid doesn’t mean I’m afraid to be seen.”

Martin and Kaitlyn are happy and enjoying, although short, their period of bliss… But still water certainly runs deep and troubles arise soon.
I’m not going to say much about those troubles. I’d very much wish for you to get the full blast of those revelations. And what do I know? Maybe I’ve been turned a tease by Miss Reid…
Shocked, stunned, surprised, bewildered, confused, bemused, befuddled.

I was delighted yet again to read more about Kaitlyn and her quirky ways. She more than ever proved to be Sheldon Cooper feminine carbon copy. Short of childish behavior.
I thought she was really mature and I’ve been struck by some of her thoughts and reflections. I could really relate to her fears and insecurities, all her inner rambling felt legitimate and in sync with her cautious nature. She had to over dissect everything in order to process and learn from new life situations.

“I was proud of my family, but their accomplishments were not my accomplishments, their ambitions were not my ambitions.”

Martin, although sharing similarities with Kaitlyn’s reclusive personality, is very much her opposite. He was still a jerk face, and I still loved him despite his faults. Not that there are many to list.

You’re about to learn many things about him in this book, and it helped me understand him a great deal.
“Martin, I’m not trying to hurt you. I just want us to be—”
“Smart. You always want to be smart and do the right thing. But the problem is, Parker… I just want you.”

I won’t blindside you and tell you to jump into this no matter what, you have to expect an equal, if not much more harsh ending, I for one, was glad to have Capture already to cushion my fall.

Heat offered a very entertaining read, filled with a great dose of humor, scorching hot chemistry, blazing sex scenes and emotional turmoil. Definitely a New Adult novel like I'd like to see more!
“Darn, damn, damnit, shoot, gosh, darn it, heck.”

Whoever said Penny Reid can't write sexy better read this book because let me tell you something, not only she CAN but the sexy factor she rocked in this second installment of the Elements of Chemistry will absolutely knock your socks off. With this I'm not implying that this book is an all perv fest either, but there was something just so sexy about Martin and Kaitlyn discovering new feelings and allowing the passion between them to strip down their inhibitions. These two characters are people who thrive on independence, on being able to get to where they need to be without anyones help, so that made their connection that more magnificent, igniting all kinds of beautiful sparks in me.

The story picks up right where we left off on Attraction and thank God because that cliffy gave me one hell of a hangover after the massive amounts of wine I consumed (3 glasses, I really can't hold my liquor) but now my love for this series has reached new levels, the beauty and intensity between the characters was completely enchanting . So I've decided to start the Martin Sandeke Fan Club, I'll be the president of course, I'm currently working on the design for the banner and tee-shirts and I'm also taking applications for anybody who wants to join me in the worship and obsession of this delicious Alpha Male creature that completely melts my heart and my pants.

That's it! that's all the info you get from me about this book. You need to mark your calendars (April 30th) and purchase this book; good news is you can already pre-order:

  • Geri Reads

    4.5 stars!

Heat starts off right where Attraction left us hanging. I collectively breathed a sigh of relief at the fact that Kaitlyn and Martin are still on and off for some hot R&R and explore their attraction to each other. And oh boy, did they explore.

Heat is an apt title for this book because this is the hottest book Penny Reid has ever done. Talk about explosive chemistry. Martin and Kaitlyn spent that one week exploring each other physically and emotionally but there's always that question of what happens when the week is finally over? And just when I thought they might finish the week on a high note, family secrets and personal convictions got in the way with that and readers are left with a massive cliffhanger.

I can't wait to read the next book. Despite this being tagged as a serial novella, the length is quite hefty for a serial. I didn't feel cheated because this book not only answered the questions we had from book 1 but it also sets up nicely the future events of the third book. Plus, this author just completely captivates me with her stories. No question about it, Penny Reid writes the type of stories I want to read over and over again.

I'd highly recommend this series, and if you start Attraction now and then Heat, you'll be able to finish them just in time for Capture.

"But it's not going to be meaningful for you...unless you're passionate about me."

I cannot even begin to express my excitement when I saw this hit my Kindle and was ready to jump right back into Katy & Martin's world with the second instalment of Elements of Attraction! And as the title simply puts it, Heat turns up the intensity between our duo and if anyone here dare says Penny Reid can't do hot and steamy, Y'ALL BE DEAD WRONG.

Newsflash everyone: Penny has not only let a sexy and swoony man on the loose but he is one mighty fine dirty-talking hero! I'm talking hot like 'holy mother of all Bunsen burners' because the scorching heat is at an all time high! Pretty sure I needed a few cold showers to calm myself down from the multiple panties combustion. I swear I could almost feel the heat sizzling burning fervently through the pages. Wow wow wow.

A quick rundown on this second part (with no spoilers I promise!): It picks up right after the first one,
Attraction and while both of them tide through that speed bump soon enough, this instalment really explores in depth about Katy & Martin's current stance as a couple now. For Katy, this is all very new to her and I loved that while she's slowly evolving and breaking out from that shell of hers, she doesn't lose that unique quirk that made me love her so much. Her analytical ways are still ever-present but she's slowly starting to lose her inhibitions the more she bonds with Martin. As their relationship progresses, Katy will soon find out if love will finally trump logic.

"But you are terrified, Kaitlyn. Everything is logical discussions with you, everything is so reasonable and analytical. Don't you feel passionate about anything?"

And Martin Sandeke, let me just say that this guy is just a whole bag of surprises. I mentioned he was pretty much an enigma in the first one but we really get to learn a lot more about him here. These characters are anything but one-dimensional and there's so much more to them than meet the eyes. They're imperfect in their own ways but no doubt, they bring out the best of each other. I found my heart swelling with love as these two try to balance out each other's flaws.

BUT ALAS THAT ENDING. Oh Penny, why hast thou forsaken me with that ending?! I knew the terrible cliffhanger was coming but NOTHING was enough to prepare me for it. I didn't expect to be crying like a little schoolgirl who just lost her lunch money and left to wallow in the sandbox of misery by the end of it. You have hit me right in the feels with that last portion there, Penny!! *clutches heart*

Again, I feel the need to reiterate that Penny's writing is all kinds of smart, funny, refreshing and will keep you hooked to the story from start to end. I loved this instalment as much as the previous but add on the heat, I couldn't even peel my eyes away from the read at all! I felt that the heat factor definitely played more roles than one, other than merely spicing up the read but it proved to be pivotal by allowing both characters to confront some of their issues head-on.

I'm nervous and excited to see where Penny will bring us in the final part but if there's one thing I'm sure of now, it'll be that this brilliant lady will deliver an epic finale for our beloved duo. Now I just need another truckload of patience to survive the wait, GAH THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.

Elements of Chemistry: Heat is the second part of a trilogy series called Hypothesis and each instalment will be released within a month of each other. This series is a NA contemporary romance read.

    description

I think Penny Reid is a mad genius. I know that once I pick up a book from her I’m in for an amazing reading experience and with her one-of-a-kind sense of humor and sharp wit, her stories always hit the mark for me. It certainly rang true for book 1 in this series
Attraction and to an extent it was also true for this second one; however I do have some reservations about this book. A big one that’s on my mind is that while this book was entertaining and addicting, I felt like that the plot wasn’t substantial enough to warrant its own book. I think if this book had been split between the first and third or squeezed in more, the series could’ve easily ended up as a duet and would’ve still done justice to Martin and Kaitlyn’s story. However, I respect the author’s vision for her story and characters and despite not agreeing with the story arc structure as of now, I have complete faith that she will deliver a stunning and fitting conclusion to the series with the third book.

FYI, the rest of my review will contain minor spoilers if you haven’t read book 1.

    description

This book picks up right where the first one left off. Martin and Kaitlyn are on shaky ground relationship-wise but the author wastes no time to straighten things out and get them both on common ground. They’ve both got so much baggage but the one thing they agree on is that they’re absolutely crazy for each other, and are willing to give this new relationship of theirs a shot. The plot of this book actually spans just a few days, but it’s a rich in quality timeframe as Martin and Kaitlyn open up to each other like they’ve never done before. I know one of the things that kept me from giving book 1 a full 5 star rating was that I needed more about Martin and the author delivered on that aspect here. Hidden secrets and sordid details about his family are revealed, and really helped me understand why he always acted like a jerk to everyone. But on the downside, while Martin’s character development I was happy with, I struggled with Kaitlyn. Her socially awkward personality and overall shyness were qualities that made her endearing and adorable in book 1 but I felt like they were exaggerated and drawn out in here, so sometimes she annoyed me with how naïve she was. But at the same time I understood that her upbringing, family pressures, and her young age played a huge role so I’ll end my complaints about poor Kaitlyn here ;)

Things I did adore included the cranked up steam level and the angsty, emotional side to Martin and Kaitlyn’s romance that previously hadn’t been explored before. Unlike book 1, this book was not just all fun and games. It had its fair share of turmoil and heartbreak and as I got closer to the end, the author really yanked hard on my heartstrings so despite my issues with the story, I was still heavily invested in this couple.

Now for the ending. I knew there was a gigantic cliffhanger at the end and the author also warned readers beforehand but sheesh. It still freaking burns woman! I wish it didn’t have to conclude this way but at the same time, I don’t see how it couldn’t so I’m not too aggravated about it. And luckily, the final book will be out in just a few weeks so I’m excited about that.

But okay. I admit I still want to kick Martin in the nuts and dunk his head in a toilet ^_^

Despite my so-so average rating for this book, it’s still a really good installment in the series and filled in some empty holes from the first book that gave me greater character insight. I never felt bored and read it in one sitting, and it’s safe to say I’m hooked on this series and am currently not-so-patiently waiting for the final book. As I mentioned before, I have complete faith in the author to deliver an epic conclusion to Martin and Kaitlyn’s story.

Heat is the 2nd installment in the Elements of Chemistry series and must be read after Attraction.

    “Parker, I love you.”
“Sandeke, I see your love, and raise you a secret handshake.”

Perfect book for an actual heatwave. I swear I have been burning up inside and out. Europe is boiling and so are Kaitlyn and Martin.

Heat is the second instalment in the
Elements of Chemistry series and so far the best book in the series for me. The story starts right where we left off. Parker is trying to hide at the party after witnessing something that should have angered her, but ultimately wasn’t much of a surprise. Marin is looking for her and when they are face to face again things come to blows and then some…

“We can't change the past. But we can change how much importance we allow it to have over our future.”

Heat is not only a lot of fun and most definitely brings the scorching hotness, but what I loved most was the care with which Ms. Reid developed the relationship between Kaitlyn and Martin during the one week relationship boot camp. Everything happens within a rather narrow time frame, and yet she still manages to keep the emotions and growth as a couple as real as possible.

There were so many great moments in this book. Kaitlyn putting Martin in his place right in the beginning is just one of them, but I have to say my top pick would be the scene with the piano...*sniffs* I love how both characters bring out the best in each other and ultimately change for the better...until they hit a wall, that is. *coughs*

It's not all smooth sailing. Their upbringing and baggage is rooted deeply in their personalities and they crashed on more than one occasion. For the most part, I think it was beautiful in all it's tragedy. I'm a sucker for good angst and this book sure ended on a lovely little downward spiral. I was so riled up I could have pulled out the pitchforks and gone to town on a certain someone.

All in all, perfect second book in the series and I’m dying to read
Capture...keeping my fingers crossed that I can start tomorrow.

Did I mention this series is very much addictive? Well, there you have it…

OMFG THE SHIT IS BANANAS- B-A-N-A-N-A-S!!!! Loved it!!!!!!

Okay over here just freaking out a little. By my reaction and rating I bet you can tell I loved this book (and I did). WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS SERIES?????

Okay okay I'll calm down a bit, I promise. For now.

Heat picks up where Attraction left off with Martin and Kaitlyn resolving a misunderstanding and then going about their business while on the island on spring break. As the two of them get to know each other in what Kaitlyn calls relationship boot camp, things are beginning to heat up between the two of them. Both have barriers built, but the other does their best to knock them down. And pretty soon feelings of attraction develop into something deeper.

     photo pagebreak.png

First off, I love stories where the guy pursues the reluctant girl. Most romances involve a girl somewhat taming the playboy and for once it's nice to see the guy doing the work. Plus, being a nerdy girl myself, it struck close to my heart that Martin went after the nerdy girl with barriers and he went after her hard.

“I like you because you are Kaitlyn—genuine, beautiful, brilliant, amazing Kaitlyn—not because you’re Kaitlyn Parker. And I’m in love with you because I can’t help myself.”

Now for my favorite part of the book. THE ANGST. I basically eat angst for all my meals (including second breakfast, first lunch and predinner).
This is what I look like eating angst:

    For realz yo.

While this book still had its comedic moments, the tone turned a bit more serious as it went on because it delved into the issues surrounding Kaitlyn and Martin's lives. Martin has a real dick of a father, like the type of people who should be forever stuck in torture lands where they hear fingernails on the chalkboard sounds 24/7.

Kaitlyn struggles with believing that Martin really wants her for her and that this relationship could be real. The two seem to be on different wavelengths at times with Martin at full speed ahead and Kaitlyn dropping her anchor to slow down. I have to agree with her on many of the issues Martin was moving too fast, but his heart was in the right place.

“I'm not trying to hurt you. I just want us to be—"
"Smart," he finished for me, his resentful gaze softening as it moved over my face. " I know. You always want to be smart and do the right thing. But the problem is, Parker... I just want you.”

Having only read 2 Penny Reid books before this series, and enjoying but not loving them, I can say for sure with this series I am a convert. Thanks again to Dee, Jasmine and Sharon for the series recommendation! You ladies rock!

And thanks to Jas for fielding all my texts LMAO!

I love a versatile author and with this series Penny Reid proved she’s exactly that. One of the things that remained the same is her smart and refreshing writing that for sure will entertain you from the very first word to the last. I think ‘Heat’ is the perfect title for this second book in the series. If the previous book was funny and the steam level was low to zero, this installment is scorching hot. Don’t get me wrong. This installment is funny as well, with some humorous dialogue that will definitely put a smile on your face.

“Why do people care about each other? What is attraction? I can’t give you a list of reasons why I react to you like I do. This isn’t an equation to balance. You’re the one I’m always thinking about. It’s you. It just is.”

    description

“Heat” picks up right where book1 left off. I’m sure like me the previous book in the series left you uncertain about what was going to happen with Kaitlyn and Martin. The story is fast paced and even if is shorter than book1 it was a satisfying, solid read. Long story short, they manage to solve their issues agreeing to try again. Both of them are inexperienced when it comes to being in a relationship, but they want too badly to be together to waste any time.

    description

I loved the pace of the story and how Kaitlyn and Martin’s relationship progressed. Even is ‘they know’ each other only for a few days I felt their relationship wasn’t rushed. After all, they were infatuated with each other for a long time. I loved the way they are with each other, how they interact with each other and how they open up with each other. They are simply lovely. Once again their chemistry is off the charts and I didn’t doubt for one moment that they are perfect for each other. At times their tenderness really warmed my heart.

“I like you because you are Kaitlyn (…) And I’m in love with you because I can’t help myself.”

Like in the previous installment here the character development is stellar. If in the first installment Kaitlyn’s character was more developed than Martin’s character, in this installment is the other way around. Kaitlyn is the same endearing character. She’s the same smart and funny heroine I’ve loved in book1 and I have to say that once again I enjoyed her quirky behavior. Even if she’s childish, shy and very naïve at times, she’s an endearing, relatable character.
I must admit in the previous installment Martin’s character wasn’t developed enough for me. Also, he didn’t wow me like Kaitlyn and like I was expected. However, here he's developed enough to understand him as a person. We get to know why Martin is the way he is and we get to know his ‘family’ and some of their secrets. I don’t love a ‘perfect’ character. No! I love one who have flaws and Martin here has plenty of them. Needless to say he felt real and even relatable to me. We also get to know the ‘real’ Martin in my opinion, the vulnerable boy who eventually won me over. I really felt for him and I loved Kaitlyn for how caring and supportive she is with him when he needs someone. The way he loves Kaitlyn is adorable and I loved how much he wants her in his life, how much he needs her and how much he desires her.

    description

“He tasted me over and over; wet, lapping sounds that struck me as tremendously carnal married with my harsh breaths and moans. The combined sounds were discordant, awkward, and clumsy; and yet like accidental and inharmonious sounds of the piano as he pressed me against the keys, the sounds were real and they were honest. They were the sounds of sex, of desire.”

I also enjoyed the sweet and entertaining teasing between these two. They made me smile like a goon.:)

Like book1, “Heat” ends in a cliffhanger, a biggg cliffhanger that almost gave me a heart attack. Needless to say, I can’t wait to read the third and final installment in the series.

    Heat
, book two in the Elements of Chemistry series, was one of my most anticipated books to receive in a long time! A person who's very hit or miss with the New Adult genre, I completely fell in love with Attraction. Penny Reid constructed a heroine so quirky endearing, I couldn't read that first book fast enough. Couple Kaitlyn with the arrogant college frat boy, he didn't stand a chance against her nerdy analysis and wit. This awesomeness continued right on into Heat.

Heat picks up right on the heels of Attraction. The teaser at the end of Attraction is basically the into into this book. I'm not going to provide any spoilers for either book, so I'll keep this rather short, with just my reactions to the events in this book.

Kaitlyn Parker still struggles with what she determines her life rules- but Martin is her one cheat. I loved how a heroine so inexperienced in everything life and love can analyze her feelings in such a mature way. She continued to remain as endearingly awkward as book one yet she had a bit of a metamorphosis in Heat. Everything sexual refers to the effect on her pants! Loved it!

Being so close to him had my hormones throwing a parade and making a Slip 'n Slide out of my pants.

Martin Sandeke, the rich kid that's pretty much an ass to anyone BUT Kaitlyn, stole the show for me this book. He saw the gem that is Kaitlyn Parker and respected her in all her inexperience with everything life and love. If I didn't love him in Attraction, I loved him here. He's not perfect, yet he's perfect for her. He pushes her boundaries, sometimes in a backwards way, to make Kaitlyn see some of the things she's lived her "life rules" by just aren't working. He's patient and kind and PERFECT. Swoon!

"So, tell me, do you prefer to be the spoon or the spooned?"

His lips were against my upper back, where my neck met my shoulders, and I felt his mouth curve into the barest smile.

"I don't know, I've never done this before."

    "What? Spooned?"

    "Yeah."

I allowed this to sink in. Once I did, I grinned into the dim cabin and said with no small amount of wonder, "Kaitlyn Parker has popped Martin Sandeke's spooning cherry."

I felt his smile grow just before he said, "It's only fair. I hope to pop your forking cherry."

Which leads me to the STEAM FACTOR. This book ramps up the heat exponentially! Attraction held more of a Chick Lit level of steam- well, this will get your Bunsen Burner smoking. My pants were pleasantly surprised.

Heat ends in a mother of a cliffy. Anxiously awaiting the finale installment of the Elements of Chemistry series, Capture.

I will not be long on this, because I don't want to spoil the story for you.
This story is the second book of Katy and Martin’s story and this time family secrets and ghosts from the past are about to be revealed, and it will take a huge toll on their decisions and their relationship.
So, jump in and keep reading their story. You'll bot regret.

    description

Until the last couple of pages, I liked this book even more than the first one. It’s no secret that I love Penny Reid’s writing style and quirkiness (I’ve stated that in pretty much every book of hers…), but this time she surprised me in how well she wrote a first love relationship. The fear, the doubts, the butterflies, the need to always be touching and always be together, the heartbreak, the feeling that our life is over without that person. I loved every single second of the developing of their relationship. I especially liked to see more of their lives and pasts being unraveled, and how that affected them. It was sweet, heartwarming, sometimes gut wrenching. And oh, so sexy!!
My only problem was the way it ended. I don’t have a problem with cliffhangers (and especially not when the release of the next book is near, which is the case), but I don’t understand the need for this one to happen. You can say I had a disagreement with the characters on that point. I fell it wasn't completely necessary and that it was there to make a point about the heroes feelings for each other (well, and it did.) and to take the story to a particular direction. However, this was a very personal itch of mine, so don’t let that stop you.
So… it’s safe to say that I can’t freaking wait for the last book!

    Rating: 4,5 Stars.
Characters Development: I loved to see Katy and Martin’s unravelling on this book. Not only Martin brought out a more physical and passionate side of Katy, as Katy herself brought out a more vulnerable and human side of Martin. One side where he isn’t a billionaire bachelor with an important future… but just a young adult boy with all the emotions and doubts that brings. Despite not agreeing with all their decisions through the book, I definitely loved to see the fortification of their feelings, their growth as couple and even as individuals. And I’m really hoping for a HEA between Sam and Eric, too!
    Steam: Hot.

    Title: Elements of Chemistry: Heat

**This is a spoiler free review.**

Oh, Penny. How do you do it? It defies the odds of a book lover's luck that I keep handing out these shiny 5 stars. Well, I guess the universe and the Book Gods are smiling down at me, because once again, her book slapped a silly grin on my face and it's not wearing off. I'm not going to gush about my intense author crush this time because by now, if you've read any of my reviews, you know how deeply I connect with her stories.

What I will say is that everything you would come to expect in a Penny Reid book is in attendance, faithfully and in the most comforting way. All the wittiness, Martin Sandeke intensity, and quirky, lovable, nerdy, Katy goodness from
Elements of Chemistry: Attraction is here and it's not going anywhere. I can't get my hands on book three fast enough. Now wouldn't be fast enough. (I know, I sound greedy, right?) Well, you'd totally be nodding your head and giving me a hug right now if you were in this boat with me.

There's trouble in paradise with Katy and Martin.

A beautiful man is the devil's most potent weapon.

Book one ends in a very uncertain situation, and I know I'm not the only one who was eager to see this speed bump resolved. Well no worries on that front, Penny doesn't make us wait long for some much needed relief. Chapter one brings us right in the thick of The Confrontation. What happens next? You'll have to experience that for yourself-no spoilers here.

One thing of note about this book is that if you are the kind of reader that needs your passion to be of the explicit variety, rest assured, this book is called Heat for a reason. You could knock me down with a feather when I read some of the scenes between Katy and Martin. Penny has pulled some delicious dirty talking, alpha-like hero skills out of her writing bag that surprised even me.

    Oh.
    Freaking.
    My.

As always, this author's grasp of the necessary build of emotion through anticipation is spot on. But she executed some scorching hot stuff this time around for us lucky readers-I can't even. You just don't want to miss this one.

Katy's pants were once again throwing a party for two but luckily we were all invited to take a peek.

This book in part focuses on Katy's self discovery of the drawbacks of her analytical, logical side. Though she has admirable maturity that's even better than most adult characters I read, she lacks some life skills that prevent her from taking risks. From being passionate and exploring her sexuality. She's a little bit lost and feeling like her safe cage has been rattled.

I knew who I was supposed to be, but I was not that person. As well, I had no idea who I actually was.

But this is not your typical New Adult identity crisis. Penny doesn't do common. Katy tackles her raw feelings with a wisdom that surpasses her years. I thought I loved her before, but she was even better this time around.

Plus, there's just something about how Mr. Sandeke knows how to bring all of her bottled emotions to the surface and face them head on. Yes, he's a jerk face, and yes- I love him. The fact that the one vulnerability in his armor is Katy hits you right in the heart. It melted more times than I could count at how exposed he was with her. Right down to a little puddle in my chest.

If you haven't realized yet, I LOVE THIS BOOK. I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I'm going to leave it here. Just know, as this is a trilogy series, as expected, you're going to be left in a very uncomfortable place. My feels have hit an all-time high with this couple's excruciating ups and downs. Once again, she's worked her magic spell over me and now trying (unsuccessfully) to recover from the aftermath of this ending. I must be a masochist because I'm not even sorry for the condition I'm in. It was worth it to get to visit Katy and Martin in Heat. Now off I go, to pretend that I'm not hanging here in suspense so I can try to ignore my massive, hulking, book hangover.

“A beautiful man is the devil’s most potent weapon.”

    Oh.So.True.

Okay. I got what I needed. I’ve read the first chapter and I’ve had my necessary closure but I can’t go any farther anymore not because this is bad or anything but because, omg! And I’ve read only the first chapter.

If this isn’t enough book promotion, I don’t know what is. Lol!

Okay, so when I felt gutted after Elements of Chemistry: Attraction, when I felt like I couldn't handle any potential setbacks for Martin and Katy, I was so wrong. WRONG.
This ended in a way that I felt destitute, and completely depressed. I also felt the previous books' ending was like a walk in the park! But I can't play ignorant because I knew this book would have an even bigger cliffy. There's really only one way I see this going, and I hope it happens because despite this series shorter books, coming in below 300 pages, I've become invested in Martin Sandeke and the awesome Kaitlyn Parker. I love these two, love their touching yet dorky times together and love how perfect they are for one another despite the assumed differences. And do these two steam it up!

This literally picks up where the first book left off and I was very happy. A few roadbumps are to be expected but the last one, the reason for the cliffy? Very traumatizing! I won't give anything away because this is such a fantastic series and it should be read and experienced. But let me say, Martin is a diamond in the rough. His background explains so much yet can't account for how wonderful he's turned out. He's not perfect, but he is so much more put together than possibly someone else in his shoes.
Katy, I love her. At one point I felt 'the lady doth protest too much'. I kept thinking, just go for it, Katy! Why are you fighting this? But I always supported her decisions because I felt her fear, the fear of falling for someone and them not catching you. She's quirky, but so genuine, so I understood her issues. Then the ending happened and all I thought was, oh, crap.

This is NA, and it's no secret I have a tumultuous relationship with that sub-genre, but when done well it's incredible. There was no over the top drama but what's to be expected. The angst was completely justified and the emotion was incredible in its depth. These characters are mature, lovable and have real issues. Of course PR writes amazingly. I'm a huge fan for a reason. Being able to mix humour with such depth of feeling is a talent. So now I wait for the last book, Elements of Chemistry: Capture. And once again, I'M IN AGONY. Please Penny!
    Loved this!

Elements of Chemistry continues to capture me and leave me begging for more. This series has Penny’s signature wit and intelligence, but also offers a level of heat and chemistry that is unexpected, but super enjoyable.

The first installment ended with a misunderstanding between Parker and Martin. So many times in books we are stuck in this land of misunderstandings and wasted time, I am so happy to report that Penny didn’t waste anytime.

I absolutely love how Penny has things progressively moving forward. This installment is definitely my favorite. Martin is fantastic hero, he is crazy driven, but he also has this unbelievable desire to help Parker. Parker is smart, beautiful and talented, but has a low such a low self-esteem. Her family is famous for their brilliancy, so she has always felt inadequate by comparison. Martin sees value in Parker and desires for her to see it too.

No. I want all of this to matter. I want it to last.

Martin is used to everyone wanting something from him, Parker is the first person to just want him. Parker is selfless and honest with Martin. There are moments I wish she was less honest, but that isn’t her character. She is brutally honest, but it also shows the sincerity in her actions and words

I am so excited where things are going. I love a romantic, sexy story, but there is also this huge element mystery and suspense. I was dreading this cliffy after talking with my friends and I won’t lie it was rough. The main reason is because I am addicted to these characters and can’t wait to see where things are going.

Well, I have to admit that I liked this book better than the first. Parker and Martin have really evolved in their relationship and are working out all the kinks. They've become a lot of closer and have taken time to get to know each other better.

    description

Of course, things can't stay good...there's has to be some kind of drama and there certainly is...in the form of Martin's Dad. He really helps you understand Martin a lot better but that's the only good thing.

Martin takes Parker off on a boat, sends Eric and Sam to a cottage and most of the guys go home. Martin hopes to leave without seeing his Dad again but that doesn't work out and Martin and Parker's relationship is really put to the test.

    description

These two have some really good scenes together...let's put it this way, Martin really delivers and I thought the part after was pretty realistic. I just didn't expect Martin to "handle things" so quickly. :(

Back at home, things get even more complicated when Parker's Mom shows up. Parker makes a huge decision but it's not something Martin can abide by. It makes both of them pretty miserable and it will be interesting to see how things play out.

    Ok it's getting better

After the end of the last book I was dyin 2 know how Kaitlyn an Martin's relationship would carry on after Martin found Kaitlyn in the laundry room readin at a party ( Ye u read that rite haha ) things got a lil hotter an they started 2 get closer Kaitlyn walls were slowly coming down an the more she would let Martin do 2 her which was hot stuff ;) after the party they started spendin more time 2gether enjoy themselves but there was times when Martin would just say or do the wrong thing that would make her question what she was doin an if she was doin the rite thing

Kaitlyn is still great in this book I really enjoy her character I found that this book was a lil fuck 4 her she is goin through a lot of changes in such a short time an it's crazy she is now a lot more sexual an she is findin she doesn't want 2 hide anymore she want 2 bomb seen an Martin is 2 b thanked 4 that I just luv her personality an how funny she is but the last chapter I felt so sorry 4 her it as horrible c her so down like that

I was happy we got 2 know more about Martin's character cause I knew from the first book that there was something bein hidden Martin as had 1 fucked up life both parents r totally arseholes an r just pure evil an out 4 themselves it's a wonder how Martin is the way he is after them as he as got trust problems but he does trust Kaitlyn an after her run ins with his family I m shock she's still with him but Martin should of got a kick up the ass a few times through this book as well sayin stupid things an bein selfish

I did enjoy this book a lil better than the first phosphate story had loads goin on an i luvd that it was great 2 have some of the questions answered an I can't wait 2 how the last book goes even though we found out loads in this I know there is so much more after the last chapter in this book I'm dyin 2 know what's goin 2 happen between these 2 so much drama goin on bring on capture xxx

*CONTAINS SPOILERS!* Here's the thing: In most ... break-ups, you choose a side. Whenever it is the girl or the boy's side, you choose. It's normal. However, in this break-up, I c a n ' t choose. There's always two sides: one does the right thing, and the other does what the person needs to do. Both side in this book is right. BUT I don't like how one of them is so willing to...give up? To not fight for them? So I guess I'm leaning towards one side than the other... but then I think back on the other side and... yeah, I can't choose. 3.5

Although I liked this more than the first book, I still wasn't in love with it.

In this installment, Kaitlyn and Martin take their relationship to the next level. Meaning: sex sex sex. Yes, people. This book has them sleeping together like bunnies in the Spring.

I didn't find Kaitlyn as annoying as I did in Attractions. She said a lot of things that made me say "Yes, girl! Amen to that!!"

“I’m not going to magically think I’m beautiful or perfect or talented just because you do. I have to get there for myself.”

    And

“If I base my self-worth on someone else’s opinion or view of me, then I will also base my lack of worth on that person’s opinion as well.”

If you've read my review for Attractions, I made it clear that Sam is my favorite character. She still is! She gave Kaitlyn some sage advice about relationships. Kaitlyn's lucky to have her in her life.

“Never accept less than his best."

This story is not without its share of angst. Kaitlyn and Martin still have a long way to go before their happily ever after.

After the thrill of the chase in the first part, Kaitlyn and Martyn are holed up in their billionaires paradise island, eating grapes, working on chemistry assignments and getting gropey with each other under the stars. It is, as Kaitlyn observes with her usual insight, a little like relationship 101 for both of them, as they're both relationship novices and they both say and do some cringeworthy things.

I love the way these two are getting to know one another. I felt like I was experiencing all of Kaitlyn' s firsts along with her thanks to the stellar fp narration, so I got to enjoy the belly tingling romance and intense smut vicariously which makes this exactly the type of story I love to lose myself in for a few hours. I loved reading about Kaitlyn' s nerdiness and Martyn' s growing affection for her. This one felt real, but it was also witty and warm inside their world. Well, up until the end anyway.

The ending got me all churned up in anxiety and I genuinely have no idea how the situation Kaitlyn and Martyn find themselves in can be resolved. The next and final part is out in May and I absolutely cannot wait to read it.

    Highly recommended.

Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

Well...this was sure interesting. Heat is the aptly named second book in the Elements of Chemistry serial and this one definitely brought this book to a whole new level.

So if you’ve read the first part, you know where this book last left off. But for the sake of the people who haven’t read these books yet and are perhaps waiting for it to be complete until reading, I will be vague on the plot and talk more about character development, thoughts and theories on the story to come.

Katilyn continues to grow and step more outside of her tight-knit box (or closet) throughout this chapter of the story She’s always been one to see this in a logical sense and things that don’t always make sense, like passion, have always taken a seat on the bench. But the more time she spends with Martin, the more she starts to open her eyes to see there’s more to life then being the absolute best person you can be. It’s ok to want things for yourself and for both of them: you are not your parents.

Learning some more history behind who Martin is really helps you get a clearer understanding to why he does and acts the way he does. His family is…beyond messed up. Martin home life was not easy, especially while growing up and it’s no wonder that he’s so callous with everyone around him. But still, with the way things go in the book, I don’t excuse Martin for his actions. He still has a lot of growing to do and hopefully in the final book, he will find the peace he needs.

Now if you would have told me Penny Reid could write smart AND sexy, I would have looked at you like “huh?” But boy was I pleasantly surprised by the steam in this book. I remember reading her Knitting in the City series and wishing it had more steam and I feel like my prayers were answered in this book. #thanksjesus

This was longer than the first book but still not long enough. I didn’t want it to end and I certainly don’t want to wait to find out how their story will conclude. By the end of the book, I feel both characters need to figure out who they are and who they want to be. Being in college is the time to make mistakes and learn through experiences and I love that Penny Reid is doing that with these characters. The last half of the book was probably my least favorite and the conflict kind of annoyed me but still, I can’t exactly complain because I couldn’t put it down.

If you still haven't checked this serial out, I honestly don't know what you're waiting for. The first book is only $0.99, for chrissake! I'm dying to get my hands on the third book and I without a doubt recommend this book to people who love New Adult!
