Confessions of a Queen B* (The Queen B*, #1) Reviews
-
Confessions of a Queen B* by Crista McHugh is the first book of the young adult contemporary romance The Queen B* series. The series is one that continues on from book to book with the same characters so it does need to be read in order to be properly understood.
Alexis Wyndham is a high school senior who has overwhelmingly earned her title of the Queen B* in her school. Maybe most wouldn't be proud of this title but Alexis owns it and actually strives to earn it. You see, Alexis was hurt in the past so being the Queen B* allows her to control those that get close to her and keep the others in fear of what she will do to them if they cross her path.
One person in the school Alexis never saw herself becoming friends with was Brett, the captain and star of the football team. However, when the health teacher informs them of a project coupling up and caring for a digital infant doll together Alexis manages to end up with Brett as a partner. When Brett shocks Alexis one time after another as they get to know each other she begins to rethink her image of him.
Ok, now.. Confessions of a Queen B* is a perfect example of downloading those Kindle freebies and getting suckered into a story that you end up having to finish the rest. Truth be told though I wasn't surprised that I really liked this one since a friend of mine had told me she loved them and we share a similar taste but now I need to go about tracking down books 2 and 3. The story is just a cute and often funny young adult contemporary but there was something addicting about Alexis that now I need to know her whole story.

“Oh, sweetie, if I wanted to torture you, I’d go all Justin Bieber on you”
Hooray for
Crista McHugh!
Confessions of a Queen B* is a funny book about high school queen bitch Alexis Wyndham. She's not the Queen Bee/ Cheerleader Captain of the school. No, thank you. She's just the most feared senior in the school.
And I love her.
She's the different type of bitch. She's not a mean bitch, she's just bitchy in a heroic way.
What I really like about her is that she's not afraid to stand up to her nemesis, Summer (the queen bee).
Summer placed her hand on her jutted-out hip. "Jealous, Alexis?"
"Please, I just threw up a little in my mouth. I thought this was high school, not a strip club giving out free lap dances. Are you trying to attract customers with your new boobs? I bet Daddy used them as a tax write-off."
And the things she posts on her blog are hilarious.-Did you hear about this year's joke class? If you have a pulse, you'll get an A in 'Health'. No wonder the entire football team is taking it this semester.
The Eastline Spy
LOL. Other than the heroine being a complete smart-ass, I like the way she handles her growing feelings with Brett in the end. It was something, teenagers should learn nowadays. *applause to the author for writing that one*
Now, where's book two? -
Confessions of a Queen B* is not worthy of praise. It shouldn't even be worthy of this review, but hell, I'm not going to sugarcoat.
It wasn't sassy. It wasn't smart. It wasn't a thriller. It wasn't an awesome bitch. It wasn't fun.
It was ridiculous, shallow, degrading, cliché, and a waste of my time.
From the premise, I expected a mystery that would keep me on the edge of my seat, but I'm 100% certain I wasn't even reading the same story. This is a poor imitation of thrilling and mysterious. It's downright a lesser version of anything or as one of my reviewer friends once put it "the ugly stepsister." Mean Girls should feel insulted and that's saying something because I don't even like that movie.
If you want sassy, bitchy, bossy, and intelligent, look up Veronica Mars. Now there goes one hell of a girl who knows how to intimidate and rock your mind. -

**Thank you to the author,
Crista_McHugh for giving me an E-arc of this book in exchange of an honest review**
Well, Color me surprised! I loved this book! I keep saying how contemporary books are not my cup of tea, but when I decided to actually pick and read one, I never get disappointed. I mean who wouldn't like a book that used Justin Bieber as a horror reference?“Oh, sweetie, if I wanted to torture you, I’d go all Justin Bieber on you”
Owned me completely. JK.
Honestly, this was a light and easy read, managed to finished it in 2 days and it made me reduce my sleeping hours, to think I'am on a night shift, talk about Priorities.
Alexis Wyndham was just a simple student, well until her best friend-Summer Hoyt, betrayed her, by stealing her diary and reading all her hopes and fears aloud for everyone in school to hear and make fun of. That all was for the sake of her getting to the top. Now I keep a diary or a journal or anything you might want to call that. I write a lot of things, embarrassing and personal things not meant for everyone to hear so it's a pretty big deal to me. I don't even know what I will do if someone did that to me, that is the easiest way to destroy someone's confidence publicly. Good thing Lexi isn't going to be brought down by that, so she decided to be the Queen Bee-tch.“I was hard.
She exposes every wrong doing on the school by posting it on her blog- The Eastline Spy. Apparently people on the school follow her blog, so yeah if you want exposure, Lexi and her blog is the best bet you have.
I was cruel.
I didn't let people get to me.
I was the Queen B.”
Her being the Queen bee made her not a target to anyone, the disadvantage? She's isolated.“The result was a wave of lowered eyes and hushed whispers as I made my way to class”
I wouldn't mind that though, if I had a gay guy and an inked and pierced girl as a friend that always got your back, how cool is that?“She and Richard exchanged glances and said in unison, "Fuck buddies.”
Yep, totally uncensored.
I didn't have an awful high school life, although I won't call it a happy and enjoyable experience, it was.. boring. Nothing happened much, wake up, go to school, study, chat and go home. But ofcourse, the "chat" time I had with my friends are totally crazy and uncensored too, it was all because of those - Stupid teenage hormones made this story a bit more realistic for me.
Oh, not to mention, the hot quarterback guy on the story. I mean, what is it with quarterbacks being hot and handsome by default? Well, not that I'am complaining. Brett Pederson, is the famous quarterback in the story that ends up being partnered with Lexi to procreate a mechanical baby as part of their science project. That's when the romance started.
If you hate insta love and love triangle crap, then I'am happy to say that Confession of a Queen bee didn't end up like that. Lexi was indeed attracted to Brett and a little obsessed on his smell, yep smell, but would you blame her? Ofcourse teenage girls tend to get attracted to guy with great appearance and smell but I mean those traits are enough to make you a freaking celebrity on a highschool, being a little bit of a jerk helps too.“God gave men both a brain and a penis and only enough blood to use one at a time” he replied matter-of-factly
Yeah, I might be crazy but it just add to him being lovely in my eyes and all.
He's not afraid of Lexi, he doesn't even thought he can end up in Lexi's blog, maybe because he know he's not doing wrong, he's confident, he can cook, he's close to his sisters, can handle mechanical babies without a problem and a closet geek.“Something rolled in my stomach when I realized what I was doing. I'd drunk the Kool-Aid and joined the cult."
Yep, it didn't take long for Lexi to fall for Mr. Quaterback.“As I drove off, I half-expected to see somekind of superhero cape flutter around Brett's shoulders"
I enjoyed every moment of this book, I was entertain with Lexie's bitchiness, Morgan and Richard's sarcasms and Brett and Lexi's banter with each other. I'am not sure if this gonna be a series or what but I am really hoping so because Lexi and Brett's romance doesn't just end up that way.
Once again, this is a light and easy read, don't expect a lot of action and kick ass things - this isn't a fantasy novel, but you can expect a lot of bitchiness and smartass comebacks that is a page turner.
Warning: This book has a lot of cussing and sex talk, you know, Crazy hormones, but no real action.. If you know what I mean.**Wink
Final Verdict:
Highly Recommended.“Note to self: Win the lottery before having a kid”
What a strong statement. -
Confessions of a Queen B*
Book Description
Alexis Wyndham is the other type of Queen B—the Queen Bitch.
After years of being the subject of ridicule, she revels in her ability to make the in-crowd cower via the exposés on her blog, The Eastline Spy. Now that she's carved out her place in the high school hierarchy, she uses her position to help the unpopular kids walking the hallways.
Saving a freshman from bullies? Check.
Swapping insults with the head cheerleader? Check.
Falling for the star quarterback? So not a part of her plan.
But when Brett offers to help her solve the mystery of who’s posting X-rated videos from the girls’ locker room, she’ll have to swallow her pride and learn to see past the high school stereotypes she’s never questioned—until now.
Alexis Wyndham was a bullied kid who decided to turn her life around and inflict terror on anyone who dared to cross her by dishing the dirt of people's wrong doings in her blog, a blog everyone soon feared.
Brett Pederson the star quarterback is intrigued by the woman everyone fears. When a class project comes around Brett manages to become this woman's partner and quickly begins to get under her skin.
When a fellow student begins posting videos of the girls in the locker room he vows to help Alexis expose the culprit but spending so much time together is bound to become something more with the tension brewing between the pair. The only problem is, Alexis can't help but push people away after being burnt in the passed. What will happen when she pushes Brett away too many times? Will the two be able to talk things out or go their separate ways?
Confessions Of A Queen B is a YA, high school drama kind of book. It's a fun and light read that you'll enjoy reading. The characters are quite fun to read about and the storyline although a little predictable was good.
This is my first book by
Crista McHugh and I'm definitely gonna read the second book to this series (
The Queen B* Strikes Back) I'm interested in what will happen next for this pair. -
Confessions of a Queen B* is a light high school drama-filled contemporary that's quick and easy to read.
After being humiliated in front of the entire school by the queen bee, Alexis retaliates by becoming the ultimate Queen B*. She creates a blog, The Eastline Spy, to uncover the scandals of the hallways and now everyone fears her.
Brett is the popular quarterback who is situated at the head of the popular crowd and the girls of the school fawn over him. When Alexis and Brett are paired together to raise a fake baby in health class, Alexis realises there is more to the star football player than first meets the eye and soon finds herself falling for him.
The story focuses on the romance between Alexis and Brett and the other components take a bit of a back seat. The mystery of who is recording x rated videos of the girl's locker room is resolved at the end, but we don't get to meet the person responsible, and there is still an unresolved mystery of what his "problems" are to warrant leniency. The focus with Alexis is more on her hormones and feelings for Brett rather than being a bitch but there are a few moments where we see her tough side. I liked the chemistry between Alexis and Brett and it was interesting to see Alexis shed her ruthless side to show compassion where it was needed. I also liked the blog excerpts at the beginning of each chapter as a way of letting the reader explore The Eastline Spy blog.
I was a little disappointed with the ending. I was surprised with the decision Alexis made and actually couldn't quite believe it!
Overall this wasn't as Mean Girls-esque as I was expecting but it was still an enjoyable read and with a lot of questions still to be answered, there's a lot of scope for a good follow-up. I would recommend as a summer read if you like romance with a dash of high school drama.

DNF: 15%
French Silk Pie is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Sometimes, eateries and dessert companies try to get creative and create peanut butter French silk pies. I like peanut butter, but I am not a huge fan of the flavor in my desserts.
When I downloaded this book from Netgalley, I was expecting French silk pie. The description sounds like Cady and Regina George had a baby together, and this was the outcome! Bring on the sassy, cutting story! Hooray for the unlikable female character! BRING IT ON.
So imagine how pissed off I was when I got peanut butter pie. The story almost had an awesome edge to it, but at 15%, there is more of the stupid, generic cringe-worthy love story happening than the badassery that I was promised. The mean, ostracized online Gossip Girl might snag the hottest star quarterback to ever have graced the YA world. It is too bad that the Generic Hot Female Slut Bag ex-best-friend-now-loathsome-enemy, air headed popular cheerleader little sister, generic super sexualized hot best friend, and outlandish over-the-top gay friend keep getting into the storyline. Shoo, shoo, you horrible distractions! We have to get back to the TOTALLY AWESOME ROMANCE!! Oh, and that little issue about the locker room secret? Meh, we'll get to it, maybe, eventually. Right after I tell you how hot Brett is, and how I love that Female Slut Bag is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous of us, but also, there is a reputation that must be maintained here, so the MC HAS to be snotty and pretensions as possible. I mean, she reads ASSIGNED books for fun! She is so much better than all the other losers here!
I tried SO HARD. I kept telling myself to give it a chance. But I just can't with this book. My heart hurts.
I wanted a sassy, smart read. What I got was a basic bitch.
-
I picked this one up because I was a super bitchy, angst filled teenager and I loved Mean Girls back in the day. It was much easier for me to relate to the bitchy characters than the head cheerleader type.
It was pretty good. Alexis was moderately bitchy, but throughout the story her ice queen exterior definitely started to melt. Brett is a little too perfect for my tastes. I am a person who appreciates flaws in romantic interests. The romance had some hot, yet YA appropriate moments, yet I still don't find myself falling over Brett. He's way too vanilla, but if that's your thing, then who am I to judge?
There was a decent plot to this book though, which I didn't entirely expect. When reading about teen heart throbs sometimes you lose that. It felt more like Gossip Girl than Veronica Mars, but I'm not going to lie, I've seen every episode of both TV series. But the novel ended rather abruptly. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but definitely left the story feeling unfinished.
It was a fast paced fluff read that I finished in a matter of hours. I am pleased to say that it wasn't as cliche as I thought it would be. The characters aren't all your cookie cutter stereotypes. I am interested to see where the story goes if I come across a copy of the sequel, but I don't see myself seeking it out. Recommended if you need a quick fluff read to clean your pallet after something deeper.

Looking for a short book to end your reader's block?
This book is short. It's a light read. The perfect book to read when you are in need of a book that won't start the waterworks, or kill your joy for books.
I mean, don't get me wrong, the book was good as you can see in my rating, but it's like a filler chapter. I won't share my cookies for this one.
It has an original concept (in my opinion). It's funny, but not the snort-and-laugh-out-loud-like-you-are-gonna-lose-a-tooth, so it's safe to read in public without looking like a "loco". Well, you might not find it funny, but it has it's teenage humour.
Anyway. Gotta go. My b*tch slippers are waiting for me. -
This is the first book I've read from NetGalley and I went into it very excited to read it. I thought the cover and title looked fun and interesting. The synopsis of the book had me psyched to read about a high school student solving a mystery, ala Veronica Mars or maybe even Pretty Little Liars.
What I got instead was a story about a girl named Alexis, a self-proclaimed "Queen B!tch," who spends the whole book trying to tell anyone who will listen that she's not falling for the "perfect" all-star football player Brett while they take care of a fake baby for health class. The mystery plot that the blurb says the book is about is a mere B plot storyline that feels like it's randomly thrown in for no real reason. The synopsis also talks about how Alexis begins to see past high school stereotypes, which doesn't really happen. In fact at one point the stereotypical and two-dimensional characters in this book have a conversation about why stereotypes are bad while continuing to stereotype people. This is just one example of the characters being hypocritical to what they preach. Alexis claims to be an "uber-feminist," but manages to not only treat the guys in this book like crap but also slut shame every female character multiple times. She scoffs at the idea of sex and judges her friend for having it, sniffs Brett's hair when she's near him and constantly berates her "hormones" for liking him, and thinks he's perfect even though all he does is stare at her chest. The characters just weren't likable in my opinion and Alexis doesn't change or grow throughout the entire book. For someone who is such a big "b!tch" and can apparently intimidate the whole school with her blog, she seems to care more about what everyone else thinks of her instead of just doing her own thing.
This book felt like two separate stories that were combined into one because they needed more pages. We spend about 120 pages reading about Alexis and Brett's love-hate relationship while taking care of this fake baby and then in the final 40 pages Brett goes from all-star football player to hacker nerd (whaaaat?) and . So basically this book claims to be about a girl who exposes a high school scandal and they only spend 40 pages of the whole book on that storyline? It doesn't make any sense. And on top of that the "culprit" is . Plus if this was real life, the police would've been on that case in about a second. It's just not worth it to include a mystery like this one if that's not what the whole story is about. It was completely weak and not necessary to the story at all.
With that, I'm sad to say I had to give this book one star because...well...I just didn't like it.

Rating 4.5/5
Confessions of a Queen B* is utter brilliance. It has a very "Mean Girls-esque" feel to it that is such a guilty pleasure. It was such a fun read.
Confessions of a Queen B* is set in high school and revolves around the life of Alexis - the Queen Bitch herself - during two weeks of her senior year. The setting is absolutely perfect for the plot, especially considering how bitchy teenage girls are in high school. I also personally related to parenting project aspect of the story. I had a very similar project in high school, except we weren't partnered up and it was only for five days. However, I felt that in parts the project took up a bit too much of the plot. The main plot involving the videos seemed like a secondary plot. Confessions of a Queen B* was very much focused on the relationship between Alexia and Brett and to me that wasn't a bad thing.
I loved Alexis. She is basically any girls inner bitch. Except she releases the bitchiness into the world. And it is beautiful. She doesn't care what other people think and always has a brilliant comeback ready. Underneath the bitchiness, I think she is also quite a sweet, unsure girl who uses her bitchiness as a front to protect herself. You see this especially during her inner monologue regarding Brett. She is just so unsure of her feelings and quite confused. Alexis doesn't think she is good enough or that she should like Brett at all, never mind be attracted to him. She also has a fiercely protective side to her especially concerning her sister, Taylor. Even though the sisters don't get along, Alexis will do anything for Taylor. I think she misses been close to her sister.
I liked Brett. At first he seemed to be just your usual cocky football star. But the more you see him, the more you realise that there is far much more to him than that. He is such a loving bug brother and it is truly adorable to read his interactions with his four-year-old sisters. Brett tries very hard to get under Alexis' skin, particularly by calling her Lexi, and he definitely succeeds. I think this just shows that he wants to get to know her and he really likes her. He even buys Alexis her favourite coffee when she needs it - sounds like the perfect man to me!
I absolutely adored Richard. He is basically the gay best friend every girl wants and needs. Think Damian from Mean Girls. He is just so out there and doesn't. He also gives great advice when Alexis is feeling confused by her feelings for Brett. Richard also has some of the best lines in the book including:
"Yes, what an ass, but I think we're talking about two different things."
and:
"Oh, sweetie, if I wanted to torture you, I'd go all Justin Bieber on you."
The one downside I have is that the books just ended. I turned the page and there was nothing. I wanted more! Fingers crossed there is a sequel soon.
Of course, I loved Confession of a Queen B* and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. I cannot wait to read more from Crista McHugh either. -
Alexis is the Queen B of her high school. She has a blog that calls out others for their actions, putting them on blast for bad behavior towards others. She is feared by some and disliked by others. Brett is the high school quarterback, Mr. Popularity. When Brett and Alexis have to share a fake baby together, Alexis has to spend more time with him and maybe develop a friendship.
This is a YA story. I liked this one but didn't love it. Alexis has her reasons for making her blog but I just didn't like her very much. She really does put the bitch in Queen B. Brett was a good character but what was with Summer? It's hard to rate this because it's not a complete story, it's the first in a series and I feel like there were a lot of unresolved issues and I absolutely hated the ending of this one. Did I enjoy this story? For some parts, yes I did. Will I read the next book? Maybe.

I just finished reading this and I could not contain my feelings so I immediately tweeted and posted on Facebook about this like there's no tomorrow! So before I spam my Facebook and Twitter with posts about this book, I decided to write a full review already.
Okay, so first off, I would like to declare my love for this book! I'm giving it a 4.5/5 STARS! I didn't give it a perfect 5 stars because it wasn't still that perfect for me. I don't know, BUT! I promise you that I really liked this book. Maybe it just lacked something for me to take .5 out of it.
Nonetheless, I liked the whole idea of the blog and the bitchiness of the main character. I loved Lexi's character so much. She's this tough queen b* who had her b*tch face on every time! I loved seeing her character develop over the course of 2 weeks. She was really fun to be with because of her snarky remarks and witty comebacks! Also, it was interesting to know that she was running for Valedictorian. Now, this Queen B* has brains! Adding to that interesting fact was that she made smart comments, using book, character and author references. I loved her so much! She was really sweet and vulnerable inside. And that issue she had with her family touched me because it definitely showed her soft side. She was longing for family and intimate connection with people.
Summer was a total back stabbing b*tch and who knows what I would have done to her if she did to me what she'd done to Lexi? I just hated her so much. End of story.
I also adore Lexi's friendship with her best friends. I love Richard's words. He was kind of the light to every darkness Lexi has been into. He always gave the best advises. (Apart from her dad, that is!) Morgan... well, I'm not sure what to feel about her. After some incidents in the book, I felt like she was a younger sister that I needed to take care of.
Okay, so that's practically the main characters and that leaves us to one more.
BRETT PEDERSON
I don't even know where to start. *deep breath* Last time I felt like this was because of Peter Kavinsky. Brett is just as swoon worthy as Peter and just as sweet! I loved the side of him that he showed Lexi. He was very sweet and nice for a jock. Also, he was really very smart! Who knew a jock could make smart references, too and be as techie as a geek? This book just kept on breaking stereotypes and I loved that! Brett Pederson kept me squeaking and screaming in my room while throwing my pillows around and smacking them against the wall and my bed.
Another thing that I really liked about this book aside from that gorgeous cover is that it was relatable and a quick read. Also, the steamy make out sessions sounded so sweet and romantic! It made me feel hot, too, yes. But it was so intimate and it built connection between the main characters that I just lost it while reading. I kept screaming and putting it down for a while to breathe and fan myself. It was written wonderfully and it was very overwhelming to read. I felt as though I was the one making out with Brett! Lexi's narration just blew my head off. Oh, oh! And he was so damn cute with his little sisters and the project baby!
I need to stop it right now because I know you get the point and I would continue fangirling if I don't stop now. So about the ending, I know that many people don't like the ending. But for me, I liked it a lot! I was also dying to know what happens next and I was actually waiting for Lexi to show up to that next game and the ending just got me so excited! I wasn't disappointed because that last sentence that Lexi said just made me smile and got me pumped up! I actually wanted to read it again from the very start!
I immediately searched this here in GR and when I found out the titles for the next books, I just can't wait for them to come out! ESPECIALLY THE LAST ONE! So, please, Crista, I need them now!
This is one hell of a high school drama themed book and I loved every bit of it. Sure enough, many of you will do, too, if you're a fan of quick reads and high school dramas! -
*I got an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in return of an honest review
Confessions of a Queen B* a contemporary YA romance book that is scheduled to be released on July 28th 2015. This is a really short and enjoyable read that you can read in one sitting. I am a big fan of high school romances/stories be it books or movies, so when I saw this book, I knew I want it badly.
Book Cover
The cover is cute but I don't know how it goes with the story. But, as I said its cute...so yaa I will go with it.
Plot
Alexis Wyndham or Queen B—the Queen Bitch, as she likes to be called is in final year of her school and runs a blog where she exposes whatever wrong is happening in the school. Every one in school is scared of her - after all who wants to be a victim of her wrath by messing with her and then getting exposed on her blog? So, people steer away from her if they see her in school corridors and no one even sits next to her in the class. Lexi(Alexi) is happy with her current status and is enjoying giving other students run for their life whenever needed. But, her status of being a bitch and distant is soon to be shattered when she is paired with the star quarterback, Bret for a class project. She does not want people to see her as a vulnerable girl falling in love with one of the popular guys in school. So, with her reputation of a bitch on stake, she decides to stay away from Bret despite the strong attraction she feels for him. But, life has other plans and destiny again throws her back to Bret when he offers help to find about the person who is posting X-rated videos from the girls’ locker room. She has to swallow her pride and expose the villain behind these videos at any cost and for this she needs Bret. But, she also has to hide her desire for Bret from him and from others. Only if this was easy! Bret is not only good looking but has a big heart too and he is not a dumb guy she thought he was. So, how will Lexi handle all this?
Characters
I loved the protagonist, Alexis Wyndham - she is quirky, funny, smart, sarcastic, has a blog and reads book - I mean how can you not like her? Bret is so charming and good. He looks good, he is funny and he is there to help and take care whenever needed. So, a golden boy with a heart of gold! The book has great secondary characters like Richard, Morgan, Lexi's parents and others, who add to the fun element of the book.
What I like
Everything! I loved this book from start till end. I love the humor in this book and I laughed hard many a times. I started reading this book at ten in the night and stayed up till two in the morning - enjoying it and laughing with it. I like books on high school and its stereotypes and the fun element of it - this book offered everything.
What I did not like
I wish it was longer because I really enjoyed this book and I did not want it to end.
My final thoughts on the book
This a highly enjoyable read with its humor, witty dialogues, some amazing secondary characters and a great protagonist. So, a book that can be read to lift your moods! And I want the sequel - like now!! I wish its out soon!!
Solid 5 stars!!

You know how you pick up a book because it has themes you enjoy reading? I'm a sucker for a lot of themes but one of my absolute favorites is opposites, especially a "jock" with a "nerd". There's just something about two people realizing there is more to them than what the other sees on the outside. Such is the case with Brett and Alexis.
I really liked both of them. They're both smart and determined to have things their way. Brett might be able to do no wrong at school, but he's so much more than a smart, talented quarterback. I loved how he was with Alexis and with his family. He really challenged Alexis, or Lexi, as he liked to call her. The only thing worrying was his connection to Alexis's nemesis and former best friend. Brett is surprisingly responsible and mature. He's capable of seeing the big picture.
Alexis is a total conundrum. On the outside she's this hard, slightly terrifying girl, with a nose for finding wrongs and exposing them. She doesn't take or accept things that shouldn't be happening. Now she's also forthright most of the time, caring, and has a hidden sweet side. I liked seeing her interact with Brett. He really shook her up. I also liked seeing her snipe with her enemy and even interact with her family whom she doesn't feel like she has much in common with her. I loved her talk with her dad, even if it made me cringe to think of having the same conversation with my own father.
This was also one of those books that flies by as you read. I read it pretty quickly in one sitting. I should've been sleeping but I knew once I started readingthere was no way I was going to put the book down without finding out who was responsible for making videos of the girls' locker room and what was really going on between Alexis and Brett. Did he really like her or was this all part of some plot to hurt her? I liked meeting Alexis's friends. I like how they challenged Alexis to step out of her comfort zone and to take action even when it wasn't always the best recourse to take.
If you can't tell, I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm astonished by the fact this is my first book by Crista McHugh and she's written more than 50 books. That's right, I said 50. I loved the style she used to write the story. It was really easy to fall into the story and into the lives of the characters. The story didn't end all neatly wrapped, but nor did it end on a cliffhanger. I'm really hoping there will be more books featuring Alexis, Brett, their friends and families. I think this is a fabulous start to a new series and I am eager for more! -
I’m in a great mood now thanks to that funny read. I received Confessions of a Queen B* in a giveaway and I’m really, really happy I’ve been chosen to read it as it was just the right book to lift my mood and help me land smoothly after my holiday.
This is YA/ high school/Queen Bee/Jock/Queen B*** stuff. You won’t have great angst, drama or violence and the plot is quite predictable but it was more than OK as I expected that kind of story based on the blurb.
The plot is quite simple: Lexy has been bullied years back and is now the Queen B***, feared by all the “in-crowd” in high school thanks to her blog where she exposes unfairness and protects unpopular kids. You don’t want to be on her blog as the next cheater or bully.
She so does not plan to fall for the star quarterback as she thinks he is another airhead but when he helps her uncover who’s posting porn videos from the girl’s locker room, she thinks she may be mistaken…
I enjoyed the quick remarks and banter between Lexi and Brett. It was fun, light and helped set the tone of the story. The characters are quite “typical” with the Queen Bee being the cheerleader with fake boobs, the best gay friend is drag queen worthy, the other best friend is Goth, etc. but it adds color to the story and the dialogs were real gems. I read some out loud to my husband. He is so not into that kind of book, being all manly/serious geek and all but he laughed too! That’s the best seal of approval.
So, uncomplicated maybe but boring, never! I read it in one sitting and had a huge grin plastered to my face once my read ended. I’m really willing to read the next book of this series. It does not end on a huge cliffhanger but other books are yet to be published about Lexi’s tribulation. -
A really fun, enjoyable read. I read this in a day. It was so enjoyable, I couldn't put it down. So enjoyable, I bought the next two before I finished this one.
Alexis Wyndham is the school's Queen B*. Someone I'd call the HBIC. She digs up the truth about bullies, teachers, and the admin of Eastline High School in the east Seattle Suburbs. (My old stomping grounds!) The problem is, she was paired with quarterback and "it" guy of their school for a project.
Brett maybe the footballer champion god of the school, but don't let that typical exterior fool you. There's so much more to him. And that's what Alexis is coming to learn.
While taking care of this electronic baby for senior Health class, her younger sister, a cheerleader, makes it known there is a perv digitally recording the girls' locker room and posting these videos online. So Alexis is determined to solve the case and post it on her blog. And somehow, Brett gets dragged into it. Well, he volunteers, but he's now helping her.
The story was quick but not easy to solve, if that makes any sense. It was quippy and had snippets of stories from Alexis' blog. There was romance and not, meaning Alexis was fighting the idea of Brett tooth and nail.
Again, it was good and I couldn't stop reading it.
So a solid four stars for a YA read I bought on a whim. Thanks, Kindle for the rec.
*A POST DEAD ERA READ* ~ OCTOBER 2016 -
Thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
This is probably one of my favorite books I ever received from NetGalley. It's probably going to be my favorite book of 2015. This book was so refreshing and it didn't have any of the high school/contemporary cliches. The author developed the characters so well. It has such compelling story that kept me wanting more. The only bad thing I have to say is, this book does not focus entirely on what the blurb speaks about. It's mostly about how a stone-cold bitch who doesn't want to fall in love with Mr. Perfect, Hot Jock, but does anyway. The story really picks up at the 75% mark. 75% of the book was about sexual tension between Brett & Alexis/Brett & Alexis flirting.
Characters
Alexis: I really like Alexis. She is me and my friend Alexis in a nutshell-so is the writing. She has this holier than thou, Queen Bitch attitude, which I loved. She may be a bitch, but you see why she is they way she is as the story progresses. She has the same thoughts and ideas I have-high school boys/boys in general (boys being the key word) only have sex on their mind. She's all about justice, anti-bullying and she does do something about it. She writes blog posts that expose the truth in the school. She may scare people off, but she's happy with what she's doing because it makes her happy and feel good.
Brett: OMG, PLEAZE HAVE MY BABIES. He got so many points from me. He's a jock, hot, a closet nerd, hot and smart. Bonus points for being able to take care of kids. He made two stone-cold bitches like him! He wasn't the stereotypical jock, that made me so happy. He didn't push you into giving up your v-card. He was such a nice, big softy.
Richard: this quote explains why I love himAnd I want to be in the middle of a Johnny Weir and Adam Lambert sandwich!
LOVE HIM. He is Patrick from
The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
There were a lot of supporting characters in this book. Most of them were unnecessary. I liked how the author introduced each chapter with an old blog post. Readers can actually see what Alexis does and why it's so "provocative." God, I really have to stop trying to incorporate big words to make me sound fancy and smart.

4.5/5
Confessions of a Queen B* is the first book in the young adult Queen B* series by Crista McHugh. I loved this book so much!I found it to be a breath of fresh air. The mean girl cliche has seemed overdone and tired to me lately, but Crista McHugh breathes new life and heart into this story of self professed Queen B* blogger, Alexis. Her blog is like a mixture of gossip girl and Harriet the Spy. And what I loved was that each chapter started off with a mini excerpt from her blog, the Eastline Spy. (Eastline is the high school name by the way.)
While the blog and Alexis' status as Queen B* of the high school is a central theme of the story, it almost felt secondary to the wonderful friendship that was forming between Lexie (as he calls her) and Brent. Brent is uber popular, and is paired up with Lexie for a very high tech baby project. Together they are responsible for raising a baby. (which I am beyond happy they did not have when I was in high school, because that would have been a nightmare for me.) Brent is so great. I loved how grounded and stable he is. He is just an all around great guy.And he actually took the time to tell Lexie that he wasn't buying her mean girl act, listen to her and actually get to know her. It melted my heart.
And Confessions of a Queen B*, while being a really sweet budding relationship between the two of them with flirting and cutesy banter, it was so innocent and developed at what I thought was a wonderful and appropriate pace. There is a hint of more to come but I kind of love Crista McHugh for setting up the series the way she did. She didn't rush into romance just for the sake of having romance. When I finished the book I flipped out and immediately checked goodreads to make sure that this was part of a series. But never fear, dear readers, it is. There will be more in store for Lexie and Brent. Crista I hope you have something great in store for them in the next book, because I really really like them together. They are probably in my top 5/10 book couples of 2015.
Fans of Young Adult high school setting books that are craving something fresh and so, so well done. Check out Confessions of a Queen B*. I think you will love it just as much as I did.

This was such a nice read! Really enjoyed it!
Thank you for providing me a copy, netgalley!
Review now live at
Dat Little Blog!
The cover and the title both called out to me when I was browsing for titles to review on netgalley, so I thought, “why not?” Guess what? I’m so happy that I got to review this! I don’t read a lot of contemporary, unfortunately, so for me this book was a breath of fresh air.
I loved Alexis. She is how I loved my main female characters: strong, determined, focused, and a major kickass girl. Right now, she’s my heroine. She’s so sassy and everything she says is always on point! <3 Sure, she’s cold and acts like a b*tch (but hey, she’s the queen b*, so what did you expect) but I loved how chapters after chapters, we could get to know her better and understand the motives behind her actions. She’s far from leading an easy and perfect life, but she always overcome whatever struggles in such a brave way, I can’t help but admire her. She learned from her past errors, and is determined to not repeat them.
Brett was so cute. Sure, he’s the personification of “The Perfect Quarterback” but, in his case too, everything is not what it seems. I love how true to himself, cute, generous and caring he is. The way he tried to see through Alexis’ bitchy shell was also adorable, and I found myself falling for him… hard. He is just so adorable! <3
The writing is amazing. I don’t know how the author manages to blow me away with sassy retorts and wonderful scenes (maybe I’m referring to the janitor closet scene… maybe not… ;) ) The moment you turn the next page you can’t stop from reading because everything is calling out to you in this book and you know that, hell, gotta finish it!
This book was such a nice, fluffy and adorable read that I can’t recommend enough, so here it is, GO READ IT AS SOON AS IT’S OUT! YOU NEED TO! Also I'm so happy that there’s going to be a next book because, let’s face it, I’m dying to know what’s going to happen next! -
This was so great! With characters initially reminding me of The Taming of the Shrew which then, because its set in high school, reminded me of 10 Things I Hate about You but it had a little bit of Veronica Mars in it with its mini sleuthing, but then the female MC said she's a Mr. Darcy, so its like who can't like this book! The plot is simple girl meets boy, girl snarks on boy, boy turns out to be not a dumb jock after all, girl and boy have a baby (a fake one for health class) and the sexual chemistry starts to stew. Meanwhile, there is a mini mystery to be solve on who is responsible for filming the cheerleading squad while in the girls locker room and uploading said film on YouTube. So Queen B and Quarterback are on the trail of solving the mystery, while taking care of their baby and wallowing in sexual tension. The writing was fantastic, the dialogue endlessly entertaining, the characters so well developed and a plot so engaging it would be hard to put the book down. Be forewarned though, the book is part of a series and the ending is a cliffhanger in the romance department. Two more books are set for release (of which waiting would be torture) but in the meantime fall in love with Alexis and Brett and meet the posse of the Queen B*

Favorite Quotes:
“I snapped a picture off the scene with my phone. Then I moved behind the hulking mass of muscle and fat and tapped one of them on the shoulder. ‘Hey, I know steroids can cause your penis to shrink, but is that really a reason to take it out on a stranger?’”
“Numbskulls like them feed off fear, and until you grow a set of balls or find wedgie-proof underwear, I’d suggest you find a group of fellow freshmen and travel in packs.”
“God gave men both a brain and a penis and only enough blood to use one at a time,”
My Review:
This is YA at it’s best. Alexis is a too smart, non-conformist, rebellious, cranky, above-it-all contrarian. In the process of bringing down the elite of her high school through exposing them on her blog, she has become a feared mean-girl Queen B herself. I truly enjoyed this well-written, snarky, clever, and insightful tale, even though I typically avoid YA. It was a quick and entertaining read. -

WOW AWESOME BOOK!
I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. It centers around high school students but didn’t feel too high school. It was a really great read that everyone could connect with Lexi was a character you can connect with. I have a theory that everyone in their life has felt bullied. I don’t care how perfect your life is, you feel not good enough at some point. Lexi was that girl who had a best friend who hurt her. She fought back. She became the Queen B and in turn put up walls all around her.
Bret was the wrecking ball that came in and started to tear those down. How could you not love this guy? He was incredible! I LOVED Bret, and I truly cannot wait to see what happens. I will put this on my must read list, and suggest you ONE CLICK NOW!!! (Well July 28th) -
This was an interesting read, but also disappointing. I expected a sort of Mean Girls kind of book, and while Alexis was a tiny bit mean she was hardly full on Regina George. I think the book spent more time on her and Brett and less time on her being evil. Which is fine, but the novel was called Confessions of a Queen Bitch so I expected bitchiness, too.
I liked Alexis - and I loved Brett, it just wasn't what I was expecting and I sort of expected more. Also, the ending was so annoying. Yes, this is the first in the series, but seriously? Alexis, are you crazy???? I couldn't believe what she said to Brett. I would quite happily steal him from her haha.
I'll read the second book in the series if only to see where the whole Alexis/Brett thing goes because when they were together they had crazy awesome chemistry. -
Trawling through my kindle for something to read, I stumbled across Confessions of a Queen B* that has been sitting on my kindle since 2015 and decided I was in the mood for a YA read. This book introduces us to Alexis who is a Queen B* - not the popular Queen Bee which is held by her arch-nemesis Summer but Queen B that rhymes with witch. When Alexis and Summer were in 6th grade, the girls were best friends until Summer betrayed her and read snippets of Alexis's diary in the lunchroom. After that moment, Alexis decided to grow a thicker skin and then use her skills to expose others' secrets especially those who needed bringing down a notch or two aka the popular crowd. When she is paired for a class project in Life Skills, she is partnered with Brett who happens to be Summer's current boyfriend or so everyone thinks. The two are given a doll to look after that represents a real baby and you will need to feed it, burp, and change its diaper. As Brett and Alexis spend time together, Alexis’s icy exterior starts to melt as Brett brings out the happiness in her, something she has tried so hard to hide all these years. Meanwhile, on a side note, we read as Brett joins forces with Alexis to find out who is filming in the girls' locker rooms. I liked this book but felt a bit disappointed as in the end it felt like to me that Alexis was to be a side aka secret girlfriend and the book suddenly finished in a cliffhanger but not ending. Overall, despite a few parts - I would consider this YA read to be a borderline clean teen read.

Thank you to the wonderful team at NetGalley and at CrushStar Multimedia LLC for granting me with an early copy of this book in exchange for a review. I adored it!
First of all, please don't write Confessions of a Queen B* off purely due to its title! Truthfully, I did the same BUT then I read the synopsis and decided that this may well be a book that I would enjoy. Ten pages into Confessions of a Queen B* and I was in love.
Fun and refreshing from start to finish, I could not put this book down. It had me hooked with its laugh out loud, witty humour and its bold characters. Add in a dash of handsome, budding romance in the form of Brett Penderson and you've got yourself a perfect book!
I started this book on the 29th of May and was done within two days, I was that engrossed in the world of Alexis Wyndham. I admire her confidence greatly and the way that she doesn't let anyone or anything force her into changing her opinion.
She's definitely headstrong and gutsy and yes, while she may be the biggest bitch in school, she has a heart and is a bookworm - one of her qualities that I can actually relate to! Alexis exposes the wrongdoings of her fellow peers on her blog and boy, do I wish this blog was real. Blog and bitch infamy aside, Alexis is a character that you can definitely root for.
Speaking of root for, let's talk about Alexis' love interest in the novel. Brett Penderson. I was not just shipping, I was yachting these two since they got paired up together for health class. Might I add that this makes a welcome change to the hundreds upon thousands of stories where the swoon-inducing jock falls in love with the Plain Jane.
I loved reading about these two and the development of their unlikely friendship as they bonded over their mutual 'parentage' of their robot health class baby. While Brett busies himself with his jock duties and attempting to worm his way into Alexis' seemingly cold, bitchy heart, he gains the reader's affections in the process. (Yep. He's definitely up there on the fictional crushes list. *sigh*)
There's just something so exhilarating about how new and fresh this plot feels. The element of openness in Confessions of a Queen B* is something you rarely find in a lot of YA fiction. Nothing is too embarrassing or taboo and you'll find that there is always someone you can talk to even if it turns out to be the last person you'd think. For example, Alexis consulting her cheat of father for relationship advice which, while crude, turns about to be somewhat useful.
Just one little complaint - CLIFFHANGER!!! Gosh darn it! Whatever happened to the stories where it all ends happily ever after? Oh well, it's lucky that I absolutely adored Confessions of a Queen B* so much that I think I can handle the wait for a sequel. Even though I would like that sequel now and in my hands. Please and thank you, Crista McHugh? No? Pretty please? Fine, but I am seriously on the edge of my seat waiting for book two.
Confessions of a Queen B* doesn't get published until July 28th but I strongly urge all my bookworm friends to either pre-order a copy via the US Amazon or pick one up when the publication date looms. It'll make for perfect summer reading! -
Seriously?! That's it?! I was so frustrated with the ending I literally screamed and I think I just broke my kindle from shaking it too much. Thankfully, I found out this is part of a series (or at least according to Goodreads) so that means there's going to be more Alexis and Brett, right? I mean this isn't going to be one of those companion series I really love but frustrates me sometimes. Right?
Anyway, back to the real issue at hand. I'm really torn on rating this book a five or giving it a one. I'm having a headache just thinking about what to write on my review. On the one hand, I really LOVE the writing. It's engaging and addictive. I didn't want to put my kindle down because I was hooked from the start. The pacing is perfect and the dialogues are humorous. I especially love the banter between Alexis and Brett. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. These two complement each other so perfectly I wanted to see Alexis-and-Brett babies already. Brett is the perfect guy to fall in love with. He's the kind of guy you would want to fall in love with you. Everyone looks at Alexis and sees a bitch. Not Brett. I love how he can rattle Alexis, push her buttons, make her furious and yet he manages to bring out the real her. Alexis is sassy, headstrong and an independent heroine. I admire her for being the kind of girl who doesn't take crap from anyone. I found her character a bit too cynic though. She sees only the horrible parts of a person and although I can understand why since she had once been the subject of torment and bullying, this made her seem a bit too proud. As if everyone's beneath her and they're not worth a second of her time. She has put everyone in these little boxes in her mind categorized and labeled (dumb testosterone-filled jocks, slutty cheerleaders, nerds etc.) Which brings me to one of the things I didn't like about the book. This is stereotyping and cliche highschool cliques at its finest everyone. I actually almost DNF-ed this because of that. Secondly, there was a lack of depth and development to the minor characters. I hate it when an author introduces a character and just brushes him/her aside. Summer and Taylor had me huffing and rolling my eyes. They're two of the most shallow characters I've ever met! I didn't feel an ounce of anything for these two except maybe a lot of annoyance. Taylor especially was too self-centered and extremely vain.
Overall, CONFESSIONS OF A QUEEN B* is a highly entertaining read. I love the humor, the romance and the engrossing storytelling. I would definitely read the sequel just so I'd see where the author would take the story and the characters. Also, there were so many questions left unanswered (I'm dying of curiosity). But mostly I just have to see Brett and Lexi finally get together!
I received an e-arc via NetGalley to read and review. -
4.25 stars
* I received an arc of this book from the author,
Crista McHugh, itself in exchange for an honest review so here it is:
Alexis Wyndham is the other type of Queen B—the Queen Bitch.
I enjoyed this book a lot, pretty much because it was different than the other high-school, chick-lit, romance books. I found a bit of myself in our main character, Alexis who, most improtantly, has a mind of her own.
She doesn't let parents, school, media or boys change her opinion on things. She's a bitch, yes, but she is a bitch because she doesn't want to get hurt no more.
I wish Alexis' blog, The Eastline Spy, was real so I could read her posts and laugh like a crazy cat-lady I am, just like I did while I was reading the book. She is funny, sarcastic, smart and reads books, what more to wish for in a girl?
Her relationship with her friends and family is something I haven't seen yet. She talks with her dad about boys and sex, that is something new lol.
It was pretty short so I read it in the short time but am still thinking about how funny and relaxing the book was.
When I reached the last chapter and the end I realised how many things were left unanswered. Why did it have to end with a cliff-hanger? Oh, why?!
Totally anticipating this book and waiting for the second book to come out, please release it as soon as possible.
Dear author, I hope you won't mind me stalking you over the internet because I'll do that... a lot.
This book comes out July 28th and when it does, you should totally read it because it's your perfect summer book. -

TELL ME THIS HAS A SECOND BOOK.
WHY DO I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH? GOODNESS WHY???
UPDATE: I WAS *kinda stalking* CRISTA MCHUGH AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT SHE'S WRITING A SECOND BOOK AND I AM KINDA (not really, but more like, really am) DYING TO READ IT.
