In
Daniel's Mate, Smooth Rock Falls becomes a refuge for abused members of the now disbanded Thunder Bay pack. Young shifter Trevor is among the rescued wolves and is dealing with PTSD after the month’s long torture he endured at the hands of his deranged Alpha. Trevor swore to himself – should be ever be free from his captor – he would never submit to an Alpha’s rule ever again, which puts Trevor in a bit of a spot, because taking sanctuary in the Smooth Rock Falls pack requires he submit to Alpha Declan. When he refuses to do this, lone wolf and pack ally, Daniel, offers to take Trevor home with him – beyond pack borders – where he can heal and regain control of his wolf, without needing to join a new pack.
Daniel has been working as a private investigator (shifter style) for the Elder Council for a while now, often working freelance for shifters like Justin Blake, and even providing multiple hero assists to Declan when threats to his pack have arisen in recent months (see previous books!). He keeps to himself, hiding a fairly major secret from his shifter allies and acquaintances. In offering to take troubled Trevor into his home, Daniel has to put a lot of trust and faith in the younger shifter to keep his secrets from getting out. Luckily, the trust comes easily between the two shifters, as does the friendship and eventual romance.
I really loved learning more about Daniel, here. In previous books, he’s been this mysterious yet fundamentally good-guy, who is always popping up in Smooth Rock Falls to lend a hand and offer pertinent information that has keep many of my beloved pack members safe. In this story, many interesting things are revealed about Daniel’s haunted past and secretive home life. I was surprised by what we learned and I can honestly say I was pleasantly blindsided by his big secret. I also enjoyed the age-gap romance between Trevor and Daniel. This was definitely one of the easiest budding romances within the series. All the angst within the story came from outside of their actual relationship, which was fantastic. They fell in love slowly and beautifully, and all the dramas they endured never threatened to come between them as a couple.
In this story, Lynn Tyler has upped the ante, adding a whole new and interesting layer to the shifter world she’s created within this series. Bigger (whole world) threats have begun to make themselves known in this instalment, making me anxious and excited for what will come next in this series. It’s clear that Daniel and the rest of the Smooth Rock Falls pack will now need to start working together to keep all shifter-kind safe. I have many questions I now need answered and I'm eagerly anticipating what comes next! (There better be more!!!) -
“It’s complicated” can describe many relationships, and while none of the pairings in the first five books of this series have been easy, Daniel manages to achieve a whole new level of difficulty and obstacles that need to be overcome. And Trevor, with all the abuse he has suffered from his previous alpha, isn’t exactly a straightforward case either. Putting the two of them together, adding the huge secret Daniel has been keeping, and some pretty devastating outside interference as Alpha Declan tries to make the Smooth Rock Falls pack a safe home for a variety of shifters, made for a tension-filled, action-packed read.
Daniel has been on the run for a while, and with good reason. His last alpha treated him badly, and it has caused Daniel to be very reluctant to join another pack. Even though Declan is a more than welcoming alpha, Daniel cannot get himself to tell him about the one secret he thinks he absolutely has to keep. But as soon as Trevor, not to mention Daniel’s buddies from the military unit he used to be a part of, are added to the mix things change and Daniel is forced to rethink his strategy.
Trevor has been severely abused by his previous alpha, badly enough to have been stuck in his wolf form. He needs to learn to trust again before the wolf will let have his human side have control again. Of course Daniel being his mate helps, even if neither of them recognizes and/or admits it for quite a while. Once they realize what’s going on they begin a wonderful relationship just when the sh*t hits the fan from multiple angles. Figuring out what to do isn’t easy for Trevor, but I think he does an excellent job.
If you like main characters who have a dark past and need to learn how to trust again, if you want to see them deal with multiple issues once they do, and if you’re looking for an emotional, action-packed read with an unsolved situation that will leave you wanting the next book now, then you will probably enjoy this novella. -
Getting better.
While this series is usually happy fluffy wolves mating it's getting better. Yes, each story has had a tragedy one or the other of the pair has had to deal with before the mating, none of it was ever really tangible. The relationships always follow the formula..
This one is a tiny bit darker. The torture Trevor went through, the flashbacks Dan has, Quinn's reveal & the danger to Dan's ex military squad and the information Hacker uncovers makes this story darker than the others.
There is a lot going on here and the direction Lynn is taking the series, as well as any offshoot series is intriguing.
The relationship between Dan & Trevor is still formulaic and as always there is the happy fluffy ending but sometimes, easy & fluffy is what I'm looking for. -
Not to be considered a simple follow the pattern book..
Traumatized wolf with uncontrollable shift and a father with unknown disabled shifter kid. This is outside the box which I like. Dan and Trevor also don't immediately fall into bed.. work up is involved along with dealing with guilt and flashbacks on both their parts.
I don't like the age gap (15 years) but it probably won't bother many. It kind of helps that Trevor doesn't ACT too much like his age.. he's more mature seemingly from his ordeal.
I also not sure how I like where the Reveal part of the storyline is heading for... but it could make for good copy.. have to see when it gets there.
Overall.. Thumbs up for me. -
This is one of my top shifter series and what I love the best is Lynn Tyler always brings in the other loved characters from previous books to go along with the current read. :)

4.5 Stars
I don't know why I love this super simple shifter series, but I really do enjoy it. This was another great installment. I enjoyed Dan and Trevor together. Trevor was a bit of a damaged soul, his previous alpha tortured him so badly his wolf took over to protect him. Daniel's been on the run with a secret of his own for awhile. His choice to be a lone wolf isn't necessarily one that he really wanted, but it's the only way he sees forward.
After Trevor is rescued and brought to Smooth Rock Falls he needs time to heal. With Dan and his son Trevor has the time and space he needs. And they find the piece missing from their lives. I really liked watching them all bond and figure out who they could be to each other.
Of course now we've got an outside threat that's threatening all the shifters not just the Smooth Rock Falls pack. And of course I now need to read the next book ASAP to find out what happens next. -
3.5
Two things - the kid was a snot-nosed brat and the adults were idiots because you could see what his issue was from a mile away. But he was still a brat. Ugh.
Second thing...wouldn't they have smelled the kid on him? I get that he isn't supposed to smell like a shifter yet but wouldn't they notice and be suspicious of this guy always smelling like a young human, especially when they are kind of supposed to limit their interaction with humans? Once this thought popped into my head it just wouldn't go away.
But it was a fun read even if the kid was an annoying brat. There is a reason I have cats, not kids. Yes, I'm a curmudgeonly crazy cat lady. ;) -
Well, when i finally thought that this book will be the first 5-star read of this series, something happens and irritates the hell out of me.
I loved the couple, loved the characters and the storyline.
But -
Welcome to the Smooth Rock Falls pack where the majority of the shifters have taken same sex mates so to say the pack is diverse is an understatement. Declan is an understanding and sensitive alpha, until you mess with his man, his family or his pack, and then you will be facing one very pissed off wolf. So it's not surprising when Declan welcomes lone wolf Daniel Carter to live on pack territory, even offering him work as an investigator for more secret council issues and such. But Daniel isn't trusting of any alpha after his former pack leader crassly suggested Daniel kill his own son after an accident left the boy paralized. Still, there is a mutual respect between Daniel, the alpha and the pack so thankfully he is there when several shifters that had been held captive and abused are brought to Smooth Falls.
Trevor Armstrong as well is not trusting of any alpha after his leader forced him to shift, locked him in a cage and beat him senseless ever day for the last six months. He has his freedom now and has been welcomed onto pack land with the others, but he's locked in his wolf form, the animal has taken control of their forms in order to protect himself and his human counterpart. No one has been able to get Trevor to shift back to human but there is something so calming and caring in not only Daniel's voice but his eyes, his gentle touch, that Trevor's wolf finally concedes temporary control back to the human.
Forced into each other's lives due to circumstance and convenience, Daniel and Trevor settle into a comfortable existence in the weeks following the wounded shifters coming to the pack. Neither man will swear their loyalty to Declan, no matter how certain they are of his good intentions and kind soul, they just can't be controlled by anyone right now, maybe never. So Trevor moves in with Daniel, they talk and open up to each other about their pasts, Trevor becomes fast friends with Daniel's son, but when the relationship moves to a more personal level it threatens to destroy everything Daniel has worked so hard to achieve, to protect.
This is by far one of the best gay shifter series you can find in print. While each book focus's on a specific pairing and their struggles not only with their wolf but with their place within the pack and in each other's lives, every book gives you a glimpse at where all the wolves are at that given time as well. Their struggles are very human for the most part even though they are rooted in the supernatural, it's not all sunshine and roses. For this installment we get to know more about the lone wolf that assisted with Gray and the girls rescue a few books back, that was Daniel. We also see where the wolf that warned the pack about the plan to kidnap the girls is at now, how he was tortured and tormented for his need to do the right thing, that was Trevor. So it's almost kismet that the two of them would wind up mating, they see each other at their worst and still sick around for the sunshine and roses.
The world Tyler has built for the Smooth Rock Falls pack and the wolves that reside there is imaginative, descriptive and oh so sexy. The inner workings of the pack is very intricate and well woven so that all the storylines converge at some point or another. I love the family dynamic of the pack, how they are always there for each other, even if one of them has made a mistake or that level of trust has yet to be recognized, they protect first, ask questions second. If you are a fan of strong shifter stories, paranormal romance, passionate and dedicated men or just a hopeless romantic, then you are going to love this series. Fans of the series are certain to be delighted with this newest book, and be sure to pay attention to a few new additions at the end, I think I already have a couple ideas for the next pairing in the series.
* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review * -
*I was given this ARC by the author for a honest review*
Daniel is a lone wolf moving from place to place never staying in one place too long, this is due to his disabled son. His ex alpha was evil and wanted his son killed. Now he doesn't trust anyone with Lucas. Even alpha Declan of the Smooth Rock Falls pack who has allowed him to stay lone wolf in his territory, he can't take the chance. Until he meets Trevor. Trevor was abused and locked in a cage by his alpha and has been stuck in his wolf form for months now. With help from the pack he manages to change into human form. But his very nervous and can't control his shifts and keeps changing forms. He won't ever be under a alpha again including Declan. He wants to be a lone wolf. Daniel understands this all too well and offers him a place to stay until his stronger and can live on his own. As time goes on they realise they are mates but things do not run smoothly. But with help from some of the pack they realise things aren't always as they seem and not as bad as they thought!
I absolutely love m/m werewolf romance it has a something extra in it that I just love, this story did not disappoint. I loved the storyline and the characters, Daniel and Trevor were so sweet. The chemistry between them is hot and sensual. I also really liked Lucas's story and the interaction with Daniel and Trevor, it bought a something extra to the story. I loved it and I definately recommend this book! -

This is book 6 in the series. I am reading it as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order so you know what is going on better.
Dan is trying to protect the most important thing in his life when he takes to ultimate sacrifice to help Trevor he shares his secret with him. Will they be able to keep protecting it or will something bad happen?
Trevor is trying to deal with PTSD and Dan can help him if he lets him. Will he?
Dan is trying to find out if there race is in danger and helping Trevor with his issues. They have an honest talk and realize they are attracted to each other but will they act on it?
Oh my gosh! The information that Dan found could destroy their way of life and put his family in danger. What is the werewolf council going to do? Will they be able to stop it? Will things get out of hand?
They were able to finally become a real family. They were able to help his comrades. They were able to join the pack. Will life be easy for them? We will have to wait for book 7 but Lynn did a very good job and I for one loved the book. I just wish I had read the rest of the series first but I was very happy with the book and was able to see what was going on. -
I'm addicted to these characters and their antics. One problem is that each book introduces a new couple, so we have less time to spend with our old friends.
I was reluctant to download this one as the last book was a little disappointing to me. Plus, these gay shifter romances are so formulaic.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised here. The whole novel felt fairly fresh to me. We have two men with traumatic pasts. With the help of the rest of the crew, these men work things out and help heal each other. There's even a kid to create more adorableness and drama.
On the downside, we were reminded ONCE AGAIN that Shannon is the most dominant shifter. I love him, but do not need to be reminded of this fact multiple times every book. Also, PLEASE get a proofreader. Errors I noticed include born for borne, easier for more easily, anyway for any way, a missing question mark, and this for his. -
I was given this book and I was asked to just give it an honest review...this is what I found.
The story was written well. It had a unique twist to it by having a young wolf boy who was paralyzed and his father trying to keep him safe and hiden. It also had a pack that most of its members are gay but mated. There was also several characters of the book who had been traumatized by alphas from a previous pack or war related issues. The author used a strong alpha, two omega wolves and a weretiger to help stengthen the storyline and to help the unusual pack deal with multiple issues. It was a unique read for me however, I enjoyed how the author weaved the story and dealt with unqiue families. -
Daniel Carter is a lone wolf living in the Smooth Rock Falls Pack area and has a big secret. He does not want anyone to know about his son, Lucas, who was injured in the car accident that killed his mother and left him handicapped. Daniel's former Alpha wanted to kill Lucas, so naturally, Daniel ran with him and has kept him secret.
Trevor, a young wolf, has been kept in a cage for so long, he is stuck as a wolf and as difficulties shifting. Daniel brings the young wolf to live with him and Lucas with the promise that he will not tell anyone.
Daniel keeps in contact with his CO from his time in the military and finds out that a Senator wants to expose and oppress shifters and will what it takes to bring them down.
Interesting story with hot MM sex. -
I have always had a sort of love/hate relationship with this series. There is so much going on just in the lives of the men and the families they are building that all the outside drama seems to get distracting and this story is no different. Love the men involved in this story. Both Daniel and Trevor had been through so much. They have reasons to distrust others even Declan and his wonderful pack. They are busy forming a relationship and dealing with their own lives. So when we have this huge outside threat seems to be almost too much and why this book gets a 4 instead of a 5. But the healing for both Daniel and Trevor is wonderful and it hope that all the loose ends left in this story end up happy endings for the characters involved.

Loving it. Yes it's a gay paranormal book but you know what that doesn't take away from the story for those that judge books like this. Have a open mind about things. Dan has a kid he hiding from the alpha he is living on the land with, Trevor comes from another pack that was ripped apart by their crazy alpha who thankfully is dead. Trevor has issues to deal with and Dan offers to take him in. Will he let Dan into his mind and heart to help him with these issues? Will people accept them? Guess you will have to read this book to find out.
-
This is a MM romance and if you're a fan I highly recommend this one. You can feel the connection between Trevor and Dan. Their chemistry is off the charts hot! The pain these two characters have been through you can't help, but want them to get a HEA. Trevor is trying to live a normal life again as much as a wolf can after the trauma he has been through, but he needs the help of Dan to make it. Dan's keeping a secret from everyone and is trusting Trevor to keep it. They have some obstacles in their way, but with love the can make it work.
-
I really enjoy this series by Lynn Tyler, and Daniel and Trevor's story does not disappoint! I loved both of the main characters, Daniel and Trevor. Daniel is strong and caring and would do anything for his family. Trevor has been through hell and back, but is slowly getting his courage back. I really like how the author always pulls characters from past books into the current story so we can follow along and see where they are in their lives now.
If you like MM Shifter Romance, I would check out this series. Love it! -
Loved it!
Great addition to the series! Trevor deserved his own story and happy ever after, so good it was with Daniel. Both of them dealing with trauma and tragedy, Trevor being abused and Daniel suffering from PTSD. They were able to help and heal each other while building a relationship. Trevor also had the added stress of dealing with Lucas, Daniel's son who was going through his own angst and growing pains. Lots of new characters were introduced, and a mystery with Daniel's CO, could lead to lots of other stories...I hope so! -
I love this series and this book. Dan and Trevor were a perfect fit for one another and Lucas was a great addition to the situation of why Dan is a lone wolf and why he chose not to be under Declan. I'm really excited to see what is going to happen next with all the stuff that's happening now with the government and also the new recon soldiers that are now AWOL. And I still want Jakes book from book 5!!!! I can't forget him somehow since he was such a sad character and I just fell for him TT^TT I hope we get to eventually read his book soon and for him to come back to Smooth Rock Falls Pack.
-
Daniel has not joined a pack but is living within Declan's territory because he is trying to hide his son from everyone. Trevor is a transfer and has been stuck in wolf form for many months since his former Alpha tortured him. He accepts Dan's offer to live at his apartment. Things are getting tense, as Dan discovers the government's decision to out werewolves and emplace extreme laws against shifters. Dan's former unit is at the heart of the issue and are being forced into more difficult situations.
-
I loved this story. We got to see Trevor, one of the broken wolves from Thunder Bay, recover from his abuse and learn why he was so badly abused.
We also found out more about Daniel and why he is a lone wolf.
The established characters from the series also had their part to play in helping Daniel and Trevor. -
I think this is my favourite book of this series so far. It's very heavy on H/C, both physical and emotional, and you can clearly see how and why the relationship between the MCs develops, how they help each other and support each other. The outside plot reaches the high point as well, when the big political/military intrigue comes to a boiling point, bringing an additional promise of future shifter soldier characters.
-
I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review... let me start by saying since book one I fell in love with this author, her way of writing brings the readers into her book worlds. I was at the end of my seat since I opened this book I laughed and screamed and even cried a bit, it was beyond what I expected and I'm excited for the next one .

Family
First of all I loved this book. The ups down and learning. It's about two men learning to deal with difficulties and learning to trust to become ultimately a family. It tells you what's to come also. Must read and a whole new chapter to this series is hinted at what's to come. -
I enjoyed this sequel, but the plot and setting developments were probably more important to my reading experience than the relationship. The characters were interesting, and trauma and secrets are always enticing, but the background/shifter politics plot also certainly thickened in this latest entry.
