People are flocking to Ghastly-Gorm Hall from far and wide to compete in Lord Goth's Literary Dog Show. The esteemed judges are in place and the contestants are all ready to win. Sir Walter Splott is preparing his Lanarkshire Lurcher, Plain Austen is preening her Hampshire Hound and Homily Dickinson and her Yankee Poodle are raring to go. But there's something strange going on at Ghastly-Gorm - mysterious footprints, howls in the night and some suspiciously chewed shoes. Can Ada, the Attic Club and their new friends the Vicarage sisters (Charlotte, Emily and Anne) work out what's going on before the next full moon?

The third book in the Goth Girl series, sequel to Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse and Goth Girl and the Fete Worse Than Death.

Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright (Goth Girl, #3) Reviews

I feel like every one of my reviews for the books in this series are the same. Funny, fabulous illustrations with puns galore; this time literary references from all directions that'll amuse both young and old. Again, a lot of those references may go over the head of the 'target market', but who cares? There's enough to keep them engrossed in the story, while the rest of us giggle at the references.

Especially fun to see Chris Riddell himself appear in this one as a rather unwelcome illustrator/journalist. Definitely made me giggle. Only downside are a couple of typos or printing errors that were a bit of a shame, but otherwise a gorgeous book as always. Didn't love the little bonus booklet at the back as much as I have with the previous volumes, but still a lovely little addition.

Oder der Buchtitel selbst: "Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright".

Wonderful jokes. If it makes my daughters happy and they want me to read it that makes it a five star all the time!

    UPDATE:

Never as a book filled me with such pleasure as this in ages, delightful book references abound.

Georgie Elliot, anyone? Homily Dickson, no?

OK. My favourite... "Hands" Christian Anderson, because he has LARGE hands.

Just read it and enjoy the book title and other authors.

    ENJOY

Kirjallinen suurtapaus!

One of the best ones in the series, just magnificent. I was simultaneously laughing out loud and wishing to revisit the classics Riddell referenced. Excellent!

Tuttuun tapaan teos on täynnä ihastuttavia kirjallisuusviittauksia.

Teoksen nimi viittaa tietenkin Emily Brontën kirjoittamaan Humisevaan harjuun, muttei liity millään tavoin itse tarinaan, vaikka yksi hahmoista onkin viittaus kirjailijattareen.

Ghastly Gorm hosts a literary dog show. Famous novelists and their pets are invited to compete in these really weird but totally cute activities. However, a curious canine surprise is about to be revealed...

There are so many literary references but served in a really unique way like Hands Christmas Andersen or Homily Dickinson.

The illustrations are just fabulous. Again! I don't think I have ever read a book with more magnificent artwork!

  • Marie the Librarian

okay, this was my fave so far. ALL THE LITERARY PEOPLE AND JOKES!! Pippi Shortstocking and Plain Austen <3
    I LOVE IT

  • Robin Stevens

Gorgeous, delightful and bonkers, this latest installment of the Goth Girl series features not only the Bronte sisters but also DOGS. A perfect Christmas story for literary nerds young and old.

  • Kirjapallo

    Perfect x3!

Though not as Gothic in nature as the previous two books of the series, this third installment to the Goth Girl series does see a lot of literary puns that I appreciated--though, again, I'm not sure that children should be expected to understand them, and therefore reconfirm my opinion that this book isn't wholly intended for children, but for older teens and adults as well.

One more book to the series and I'll have all four gorgeousness aesthetic books on my shelf! Can't wait!

We Have a love for Chris Riddell & Neil Gaiman. This book, like his others was excellent. Funny, entertaining and has nods to the adults who might be reading their kids books ;-) can't wait for the next in the series.

These are so cute. Perfect for little festive book snacks.

    Great book!

4.5 stars! Another brilliant Goth Girl novel, this time with famous writers and others.

A really snack bite review, I really want to write at least a bit about this book, but not many words are coming out of my head (as I normally have when I want to review a book).

I have been anxiously waiting for a new book in this series. It has great characters, fun illustrations, and each book has its own theme. This one is all about literature and also about dogs. You will find several famous classic writers (and also some newer one *cough*Chris Riddell and Chris Priestley) in this book. I really loved how the names were changed, you could still recognize them, even with their names and booktitles Chris Riddelled, and I love the addition of Chris Riddell and Chris Priestley themselves.

The dog show was really fun and entertaining.

The only things that I didn't particularly like are 2 things. For one I didn't like how the father acted. He wouldn't listen to Ada, and was instantly jumping to conclusions. I know, it is the time this takes place in, but couldn't he at least have listened? Normally I find him really sweet, but he couldn't seem to be nice to Ada at all, he was just disappointed and acted all stuffy around her.
I also didn't like the monkeys. The book is already full of magic and weird stuff, and I felt the monkeys were just a bit too much.

All in all though, I would highly recommend this book to everyone, be sure to also read the others, this book does touch on some of the other books, so previous knowledge would be handy to have.

    description

Cool , quirky and easy-to-read book in between the heavier stuff.

Chris Riddell's tale Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright is my first Goth girl book (and supposedly not the best of the 4) but was really fun and ridiculous.

First off , the aesthetic appeal of this book was immense for me. The amazing colored pages , the booklet in the back , the eye-catching cover , the bookmark and the awesome gold embellishment on the inside of the cover. A lot of work had gone into the design and it pays off.
I absolutely LOVED the illustrations and think it's a wonderful addition to the book.

Despite being a children's book, it would relate to a lot to adults in a way as there are references they would enjoy as well and I found myself wondering once or twice if I (as a kid) would have understood or have been able to pronounce some words.

The only complaint I have is that the book could've done with 1 less "It is a truth universally..". The quote got a bit annoying after a while. I understand it is a reflection of the character but I personally felt a hint of over-use.

Simple , charming , funny and hugely creative. It was great.
I will definitely read the others!

Ihania kirjoja.

The weakest of the books so far.

Lovely puns! These books are getting better and better and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous!
