Ghosts! Werewolves! Vampires! Zombies! These were the recurring themes featured in horror comics of the 1950s, when crime and horror comics were the dominant titles appearing on the newsstands, There was one Canadian comic book publisher who specialized in original horror comic magazines, but these books have become largely forgotten and scarce, whereas the more popular and well-known publishers such as EC, have had their famous titles republished time and again in high-quality formats. The Canadian publisher, Superior, has not been so fortunate. Now, for the first time, we present a collection of some of the best stories from Superior. Are these the greatest horror comics of all time? Hardly. However, they are a part of history and should be enjoyed for what they some of the oddest horror stories ever told in comic book form!
Strange and Weird Terror Reviews
-
Wonderful collection of comic book stories from the months just prior to the Comics Code, which oddly affected the Canadian producers as well, even though Canada had its own restrictions as to what could be published in comic book form.
Granted, these stories are no where nearly as well done as EC's, but just the right ind of reading, if you want to read several stories in one sitting, without having to think about the story itself. In fact, I'd recommend not trying to analyze these stories. It's obvious they were produced quickly, and the writers/artists were mostly going for atmosphere and not logic.
