Lily the Elf: The Midnight Owl Reviews

Great for little kiddos to learn that something that may seem scary really isn't very scary at all!!

The Midnight Owl is a double spaced (beginner) level book for emerging readers. Every other page has an illustration that works for both boys and girls.
Judging by the cover, I thought The Midnight Owl might be "girly," but that is not the case. Every other page has an illustration to works for both boys and girls.
By the end of the first page, I was hooked on the book's unique creativity. " Lilly lives with her dad in a tiny elf house, hidden under a bridge in a busy city." The plotline kept me reading until the last page.
I love that Lilly works her way up to facing her fears, instead of being a fearless child. The story is inspiring, without being preachy.
I think The Midnight Owl, part of the Lily the Elf series would be a great book series for parents, and caregivers to read along with their children.

Like the other Lily the Elf books, this one starts in a familiar way, introducing the reader to the family and the world. Lily may be a teeny tiny elf, but she is very much like girls who are just the right age to read this book. In this one she hears a terrifying noise and together with her granny, must discover is she is braver than she thinks. What i loved best is that while the main character has wise counsel from her family members, she is the one who comes up with ways to feel and act braver. Excellently written, though very simple for the very young beginning reader.

And she's back - the old Lily the Elf with another (and possibly the first?) adventure where the take home message is to be brave and face your fears, for they may not be as bad as you are thinking. Not as good as the other life lesson books to be honest, it felt more shallow and lacked something, but still entertaining enough for the young masses.

This was a cute little book that I got my daughter for Christmas. It’s about a little elf named Lily who is scared of an owl that hoots at night. But her granny takes her to meet the owl and helps her overcome her fears. A cute little story that I think my daughter will enjoy. Looking forward to the other 3 books in the series as well!
