A very informative book, packed with plenty of great, rare photographs. This book is written in a fairly chronological order, with a few asides about helicopters and seaplanes, so is essentially, a book of two halves - pre-WW2 and post-war. Personally, I enjoyed the former, especially the first chapters about the really early pioneers of aviation, with the rarest photos and most interesting stories. From 1939 onwards, the vast variety of warplanes and commercial airliners makes the text feel a little stodgy and bogged down with details about engines and variants of everything. Even though they represent a fairly cursory glance at these aircraft, the last 30-40 pages were pretty hard-going, then from Concorde onwards, it all winds up rather abruptly in a page or two. All said, this is a quality book with hardly any proofreading slip-ups, nicely laid out and printed well. The font is a little fine though and made it tiring to read on such glossy white paper after a while, especially when considering how much spare white space there was all around. 4.5/5
